On the March 5 edition of MSNBC's Countdown, host Keith Olbermann awarded right-wing pundit Ann Coulter "the gold" in the "Worst Person in the World" segment for "[c]alling John Edwards" a "faggot." As Media Matters for America documented, during her March 2 speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Coulter said she "can't really talk about" Edwards, a Democratic presidential candidate and former senator, because "you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'faggot.' "

Additionally, Olbermann named syndicated radio host Rush Limbaugh "Worst Person" runner-up for, as Media Matters noted, stating that, since ancestors of Rev. Al Sharpton were slaves and ancestors of Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) were slaveowners, "could we not say that if Obama wins the Democratic nomination and then wins the presidency, he will own Al Sharpton?"

From the March 5 edition of MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann:

OLBERMANN: Thank you, Amy. Couldn't resist this trio. I'm just sorry there could not be golds for all of them. The bronze to Newt Gingrich, visiting us briefly in this dimension to blame the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina on a, quote, "failure of citizenship in the Ninth Ward, where 22,000 people were so uneducated and so unprepared they literally couldn't get out of the way of a hurricane." Yeah, Newt, all that education sure helped the Bush administration shine after the hurricane.

The bronze [sic: runner-up], comedian Rush Limbaugh, pointing out that since ancestors of Al Sharpton were slaves and ancestors of Senator Barack Obama were slaveowners, quoting again, "could we not say that if Obama wins the Democratic nomination and then wins the presidency, he will own Al Sharpton?" No, actually, we couldn't say that. But we could say that any lingering doubt about this is at an end: Rush Limbaugh is a racist.

But the gold, of course, to Coultergeist. Calling John Edwards that name. I mean, Annie, just because you're more mannish-looking? Hell, you're more mannish looking than every man on the planet. Coultergeist, today's "Worst Person in the World"!

Actually, it's a great way for MMFA to draw attention to three ugly, conservative comments in one article.

I think Olbermann's comments are offensive to all men who's looks were stereotyped by his sexist comments. I hope MSNBC cancels him.

Wow, Newt. I'm sure it was their uneducation, and not their poverty and lack of resources, that didn't allow them to leave NO.

      Idiot.

You're right. Their lack of manual transportation (feet) and a three day notice wasn't enough. I understand that they would've been better off if a limo picked them up and shuffled them off to the Waldorf Astoria.

Keith, do you give MMFA royalties?

Because walking out of town would have gotten them what? Maybe 30 miles down the road and still in the path of the hurricane? Let alone having to transport yourself, and material to make said "walk". I can't believe how stupid some people are. It's not as if they could just load up their non existent SUV and drive out of town and get a hotel room or something. Ridiculous. Sounds to me like someone has been listening to too many right wing talk shows.

Sure all they needed to do was pack up the kids on thier back along with a couple of weeks worth of food pushing their elderly grandmother in her wheelchair, and the tools to build a shelter when they got away since they dont have the resources to rent a place to stay, and...at this point the stupidity of the original comment overwhelmes any further attempt at sarcasm I can come up with

            Dave,

Exactly where did you see 22,000 people looting anything?  Hopefully you are not counting the 500 people shown floating in the aftermath. Are you sure you and not a relative of Rumsfeld who kept seeing the same vase being stolen?

You mean couldn't get out of the way of a broken levee...

Why have there been no investigations into the gross negligence and criminal neglect of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers?

(For those interested, I was in the Lower 9yh Saturday and that place isn't coming back anytime soon. Maybe in twenty years it'll be an industrial park or something. Sad, but true.)

Are we not told by liberals if they ran everything their would be no, poor,no racism? Liberals have ran new olearns for what 50 60 years?

I have to disagree with Olbermann on this one. I think Gingrich was robbed.

Sure, Coulter is a potty-mouthed attention seeking bigot, but we all know this already. Rush Limbaugh merely said something that made absolutely no sense whatsoever, so again no surprises there.

But Gingrich - this was a surprise contender, and what a showing. This is the kind of stupidity that makes you want to weep, and makes you want to break into spontaneous applause. All I can say is: nice work, Mr Gingrich. I don't believe I could say anything that willfully stupid if I spent a whole week trying to think of stupid things to say.
