On the March 6 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh responded to a New York Times article that characterized Republican presidential candidate and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani's relationship with his son, Andrew, as "strained and distant," by stating, "Remember the zone of privacy that the drive-bys all respected for Chelsea Clinton? 'Leave her out of this,' the Clintons said. And the drive-bys dutifully conformed to that demand or that request." However, Limbaugh did not mention his own comments regarding Chelsea Clinton during the program. As media watchdog group Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting noted, in 1993, on his former television show, Limbaugh referred to Chelsea Clinton, who was 13 at the time, as "the White House dog."

From the March 6 broadcast of Premiere Radio Network's The Rush Limbaugh Show:

LIMBAUGH: Remember John Kerry making comments about Vice President Cheney's daughter being a lesbian during a presidential debate with George W. Bush, and you may have forgotten Elizabeth Edwards chiming in on this. About how Mrs. Cheney acted ashamed and so forth. The left trying to make it look like the, we on the right are just nothing but a bunch of gay bashers, racists, sexists, bigots, homophobes, and so forth, and yet it was shameless what Kerry and Edwards did during the 2004 presidential campaign regarding the privacy of the Cheney family.

Then again, we have, you know, the Andrew Cuomo -- or Andrew Giuliani story yesterday in The New York Times. Yeah, my dad's a dud, but I think he'd be a great president. Remember the zone of privacy that the drive-bys all respected for Chelsea Clinton? "Leave her out of this," the Clintons said. And the drive-bys dutifully conformed to that demand or that request.

"Zone of privacy"... huh? Chelsae was hounded perpetually. Much worse than the idiot twins. They have to literally be banned from a country for it to make news.

This is more of Limbaugh re-writing history to evoke some sympathy for the neocons.

        Greek,

Limbaugh and his reference to Chelsea aside, she was not hounded perpetually..........where did that come from?  She was rightly left pretty much alone, the way it should be.

Dude... every time she was in the public eye it was a constant dig on her looks or whatever. Petty stuff. Rightwingers commented on her gawkiness, etc all the time.

That's right.  She was pretty much left along except for weak-minded bullies like Lardbutt.

Well, perhaps I'm over-exagerating a bit... however, she was not 'off-limits' by the so-called conervative press... always a 'wink-wink' "boy she's homely" sort of thing...

Even Wikipedia has a paragraph about it...

          [link to en.wikipedia.org]

Personally, I never cared about Chelsae... but did feel that she suffered undue insults and criticism just because "she was a Clinton".

She came through it pretty well, I admire her resiliency and strength - most notably during the years when both her mother and father were pretty much put through the meat grinder every day.

The difference being is that Chelsea Clinton was a child for most of the years that her father was in office, and she did not go to the press. That said, I think they should leave Rudy's kids alone, leave his marriages and private life alone, the way they should have left Clinton's child and private life alone. Let the candidates stand on their own 2 feet!

"Julie's" marriageS  and his private life are of at least SOME interest in determining his suitability to office - ANY office, even mayor of New York.

After all, we do have the Clintons' example as precedent: she is unfit for any civilized consort, because her husband is unfit for even civil reference, because he betrayed the common perception of his marriage vows. And, if you don't believe me, check the fact that the media have covered her in disparaging fashion, on those bases, at least one major story per day since the first of this year, with echoes reverberating throughout the Corporate Media Oligopoly incessantly, for eternity, of each such story.

Limbaugh has a long history of "commenting" on Chelsea Clinton.  When she was in college, he made a note that she had purchased a set of books by Karl Marx for a class.  When she had the audacity to be at a night club and photographed with a drink, Limbaugh commented on it, stating "the apple didn't fall far from the tree."

Of course honesty has never been a Limbaugh strong suit.

I think I also remember him commenting on her boyfriends and blasting her parents for sending her to a private school (or was that Gore?)  Anyway, I think the MSM pretty much left her alone, but PigBoy certainly didn't.

Rush knows he's lying...it's what he gets paid for.

        -----

And there will never be an apple to fall from Limbaugh's tree, even after three marriages. What do those three marriages have in common? Limbaugh, the man who took someone else's Viagra to the Dominican Republic, a well-known haven for men who have sex with children.

How about on Rush's short-lived TV show in the early 90s and he asked "Did you know there's a White House dog?" and then puts up a picture of Chelsea Clinton.

Uh, Rush, Cheney's daughter is openly gay, and neither Kerry nor Edwards was disrespectful to her.  Not like when you called Chelsea "the White House dog."

I never understood the outrage of them mentioning her sexuality. Didn't she trade off her sexuality in her job at Coors? Making her basically a professional lesbian.

I do not recall Chelsea being "attacked" by the mainstream press at all. The only real exposure I can remember is from the tabloids when she was dating somebody new.

And folks, Limbaugh is not Tim Russert. He doesn't count in the greater "media" body that he mentions and we consider when we talk about the "media's" treatment. Seriously, I don't even know why MMfA bothers with Limbaugh, Savage, Beck, etc. They're just editorial commentators, paid to have a controversial opinion and voice it.
