American Press editor tells Media Matters his paper "dropped Ann Coulter on Monday"

Media Matters for America has learned that the American Press of Lake Charles, Louisiana, has dropped right-wing pundit Ann Coulter's nationally syndicated column from its opinion pages, apparently in response to her March 2 remarks at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), referring to Democratic presidential candidate and former Sen. John Edwards (NC) as a "faggot."

According to a March 8 email Media Matters received from American Press editor Brett Downer, the paper "dropped Ann Coulter on Monday," three days after Coulter made her comments at CPAC. Downer did not say whether Coulter was dropped as a result of her comments.

After Editor & Publisher revealed that the Lancaster New Era (Lancaster, Pennsylvania), The Oakland Press (Pontiac, Michigan), and The Mountain Press (Sevier County, Tennessee) had dropped Coulter as a result of her comments at CPAC, Media Matters published a list of news outlets that continue to publish Coulter's column. Media Matters later noted that The Times of Shreveport, Louisiana, also decided to drop Coulter as a result of her comments, which editor Alan English described as "the back-breaking straw for a decision we've openly discussed for some time."

After receiving a tip that the American Press had dropped Coulter, Media Matters sought clarification from Downer.

Instead of dropping her column from the media, drop her off the Empire State Building. And that long neck of hers would give Linda Lovelace a run for her money...

If its anatomically correct, what will conservative parents tell their children when they look under the skirt and see a man part?

Judging from the right-wing pastorates lately in the news, it wouldn't come as a shock to many of the children that both "mommy" and "daddy" have man-parts?

Aw, c'mon! Anne isn't THAT ugly!

OK, my wife has been nagging me for a year to get my glasses checked - maybe I should get back to you on this question.

What happened to all the great posts that were here last night?

They made my little heart smile.  Sigh.

I wish I could be as sharp as the other posters.  I do take a certain glee in all this.  I read Ann's column today.  And you know there is now a war against Republicans?  The pesky Democrats get away with just everything.  I believe they were abusing interns too.  Hmmm.  I would like helping in understanding the mind of people like Ann.  I don't understand this complete denial of facts.  I really don't.  Help me to understand- I still remain confused.

Susie, based on your comments I looked up Anne's column.  Her apologists are always whinging that she is a great thinker and writer, just a "little over the top."  So I thought, well, let's see what the substance is, and read the column.

The substance, in a nutshell, is this:  WAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!

Although I must say, her grammar and spelling were impeccable.

          Maybe...

she has a good editor?  I personally think most of her assertions could have been made by a reasonably smart second grader...er, a mis-informed, lying, mean, dishonest, second grader maybe?

I aspire to her grammatic greatness!!

She does have a certain witty way of writing. If we could only turn her wit to good she could have the axis of evil laughing so hard they would put down their weapons and stop hating us.

Why can't we all love one another?
