On the March 15 edition of Fox News' Special Report, while introducing a report on the latest developments into the firing of eight U.S. attorneys, Fox News Washington managing editor Brit Hume likened Senate Democrats investigating the firings to "a dog with a new bone ... continuing to gnaw away."

As the Associated Press has reported, several Republicans have also expressed concern at the firings, with two -- Sen. John Sununu (NH) and Sen. Gordon Smith (OR) -- calling for Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales' resignation. In his report on the firings, Fox News White House correspondent Wendell Goler noted that Sununu called for Gonzales to step down.

From the March 15 edition of Fox News' Special Report with Brit Hume:

HUME: Like a dog with a new bone, Senate Democrats are continuing to gnaw away at the Justice Department's firing of eight U.S. attorneys and whether the dismissals were politically motivated. The current target appears to be the attorney general, with senators trying to get some of his subordinates to go on the record. White House correspondent Wendell Goler reports.

Excellent post MMFA...Hume should have noted that there are at least some Republicans like Sununu and Smith who have been, and continue to be, highly critical of this administration.

Like a Pedophile on "To Catch a Predator", Faux news is trying to act like nothing wrong has taken place.

      Desparate times for neocons.

I guess Britney slept through the 90s.

That's okay.  With any luck, Congress will gnaw Puddinhead George's leg off before long.

      Good metaphor, Brit.

As so often happens, gnawing eventually leads to cracking.

Can't wait to see the marrow.

I think FOX should have to change thier little on screen icon from FOX News , to FOX info tainment, of something. I know it is more boring to say something accurate instead of the bone metaphor, but it is not journalism.

I think you may be on to something here.  Years ago, professional wrestling had to admit that it wasn't a sport, because their insurance was becoming prohibitive.  Maybe Fox News should just admit that it is GOP propaganda, then MMFA would leave them alone.

If Fox news was forced to post a disclaimer, you know how that would end up with their target audience-

"Just as the PC police have forced real Americans to stop referring to homosexuals as f499ots, the liberal media have forbidden us from calling ourselves news"

That is what Checks and Balances are for Mr Hume.  This is a man who loves to spew the GOP /Rove talking points.

Now, there's a discouraging thought.  At the pace Congress normally moves, they'll just scratch the surface and the term will end, then Puddinhead George will pardon everybody, including himself.

I still find it strange that there's all this uproar over the attorney's when the Democrats just backed off preventing Bush from attacking Iran. More political theater intended to distract the masses? Considering our media is non-stop dead blondes and minor scandals and car commercials, while both parties have signed off on torture and illegal wars of agression.....

On the Arab press, they talk of the war, they talk of the occupations, they talk of the victims.....while in America, we play little games amongst ourselves and ignore what we are doing to others. And they see this. They are far more informed about the world than we are, there are 24 Arab satellite news channels beaming to the Middle East, with real journalists who actually cover the world news. They know what Americans are talking about, they see the distraction, they see how we just don't care. We're too obsessed with Anna Nicole and petty squabbles over who hires and fires, while our bombs and soldiers are killing their children....and they SEE THIS!

And people wonder why they hate us.

Well Redking, Consider it the Media finally waking up from a Bush induced slumber.

The people on the left have been screaming since Bush came into power, that something is very wrong with this administration. In a healthy gov. the normal checks and balances would have prevented a lot of the nightmare we are experiencing.

But Bush Inc. and the neo-cons have worked very hard to remove or block those normal procedures to their advantage.

        Look at it this way

Step 1: Slip a rider into a "popular" bill (the Patriot Act) that removes the checks and balances needed to place fed Attorney's into office. (i.e. remove the confirmation process).

Step 2: Fire a large number of attorneys, basically any that don't 100% agree with you and just enough so that your views outweigh your opponent's views.  Use lie to cover firing.

Step 3: What law  do you want passed and enforced; or interpretation of laws? Pick any. Want Ten Commandment monuments on every street corner? Want gay/partner domestic health benefits outlawed? etc? etc? etc?

So, yes while the war is still important, this is also very scary.

It's just a minor symptom of the slide into fascism that's been going on for half a century now. I just see Democrats making a big stink about this while giving the admin a pass on war crimes. There's soooo many horrendous things Bush and Gonzalez could be pursued for, but they chose this minor little petty incident to go nuts over, to waste time with. But when AIPAC is standing behind the scenes pulling the strings, I guess torturing arabs becomes a non-crime.

They're turning us into Israel. All the parties over there support the crimes against humanity perpuated upon the Palestinians but fight amongst themselves over election funding scandals. Their government has laws against torture too, but they still do it, with the support of all the parties. Noone will complain or do anything to stop it. More important to argue over which other party got some more money than the other.

That's my point. When looking at the Big Picture, this is just so immaterial. Such a petty squabble in the midst of so much crime and evil. Just another minor symptom in the overall disease.
