Beck smeared ABC colleague Rosie, claimed "I never said that Hillary Clinton was a bitch"
On the March 16 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, in reference to comments documented by Media Matters for America in which he called Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) "the stereotypical bitch," Glenn Beck said: "Hillary Clinton sounds like the biggest nag on the planet ... I never said that Hillary Clinton -- excuse the language -- I never said that Hillary Clinton was a bitch. I said she sounded like one." He went on to say, "It has nothing to do with her policies, it has nothing to do with her personality, it has nothing to do with what she's actually saying."
On his March 15 show, Beck had said: "Hillary Clinton cannot be elected president because ... there's something about her vocal range," and went on to say, "There's something about her voice that just drives me -- it's not what she says, it's how she says it," adding, "She is like the stereotypical -- excuse the expression, but this is the way to -- she's the stereotypical bitch, you know what I mean?"
In the March 16 broadcast, Beck also compared Clinton to Rosie O'Donnell, co-host of ABC's The View, claiming, "Now, here's somebody who I don't think sounds like a nag, but is one, and that's Rosie O'Donnell." He then played an audio clip in which O'Donnell said that alleged 9-11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed "has been in the custody of the American government in secret CIA torture prisons and Guantánamo Bay, where torture is accepted and allowed, and he finally is the guy who admits to doing everything," to which Beck replied: "She has more contempt for the United States of America than the guy who is the number-two guy of Al Qaeda." Later in the program, Steve Burguiere, the executive producer of Beck's radio show who is known on-air as "Stu," stated, "Rosie O'Donnell's just stupid. She's out there blabbing her mouth at 100 million miles per hour, and she has no idea what she's talking about," adding, "I mean, Rosie O'Donnell's just crazy. I don't think -- that's why they have ratings on that show, because she's nuts."
As Media Matters for America has noted, ABC News recently hired Beck as a "regular commentator" for Good Morning America. The View, featuring O'Donnell, also appears on ABC. Premiere Radio Networks, which syndicates Beck's radio show, says the program is heard on more than 230 radio stations nationwide. According to Talkers Magazine, the program reaches more than 3 million listeners each week.
From the March 16 edition of Premiere
Radio Networks' The Glenn Beck Program:
BECK: Hello and welcome to the program. So glad that you have tuned in today. Golly! Oh, golly! We've got an awful lot to talk about today. You know what, I'm going to let you do a lot of the talking. I've got emails that -- people are very upset with me about what I said about Hillary Clinton yesterday. As soon as I get some audio, I'm going to play it and make my point. But I've gotta make it with audio, and I want you to, I want you to -- you tell me where I'm wrong when I said yesterday Hillary Clinton sounds like the biggest nag on the planet. Sounds like the biggest nag on the planet. I never said that Hillary Clinton -- excuse the language -- I never said that Hillary Clinton was a bitch. I said she sounded like one. It has nothing to do with her policies, it has nothing to do with her personality, it has nothing to do with what she's actually saying. And I have a piece of audio that I'm going to share with you in a few minutes where it is -- I agree with what she's saying. I believe I've actually said the things that she's saying. And yet I can't take it. Blood shoots out of my eyes. There's something about her voice that just grates on me.
And I believe -- Stu, I would like an expert on Monday. I want a vocal expert on Monday, somebody that can tell me the vocal range that she's in, somebody that can do the voice pattern stuff. Tell me what it is because it is -- it is her voice, and I believe she could be trained to not use it. Me personally, I would just say, "Shut up." But she can be trained to bring her voice down.
STU: Yeah, I know, it's kind of like that high -- it's like that crunching glass sort of, like, combined with a female voice.
BECK: Horrible.
STU: It just has that grating sort of sound.
BECK: Horrible.
STU: But you're an evil hatemonger, so you know --
BECK: I know I am. Now, here's somebody who I don't think sounds like a nag, but is one, and that's Rosie O'Donnell. Do we have the audio of Rosie O'Donnell? Listen to this. This is yesterday. Listen to this.
[begin audio clip]
O'DONNELL: This man right here whose name is Khalid Shaikh Mohammed. There's his picture. And this man --
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: He's attractive, isn't he?
O'DONNELL: -- well, yeah -- he has apparently admitted to over 29 things that he says that he was solely responsible for. He did this confession while he's at Guantánamo. He was arrested and put in the care of the United States in March 2003. He was then in a secret CIA prison. And then he was brought to Guantánamo. And then he confessed without reporters being present, and without being privy to a lawyer --
[...]
O'DONNELL: I think the man has been in the custody of the American government in secret CIA torture prisons and Guantánamo Bay, where torture is accepted and allowed, and he finally is the guy who admits to doing everything.
[end audio clip]
BECK: Stop. Stop. Do you hear this? Do you hear this, America? I just want to make this very, very clear. This is ABC television. This is The View with Barbara Walters. Every day you get a dose of this, this woman's opinion of the United States. Do you notice that it's "in the custody of the American government" -- not our government, the "American government," with contempt. She has more contempt for the United States of America than the guy who is the number-two guy of Al Qaeda. And look, if you want to have that opinion, you can have that opinion in America. Have that opinion. You're wrong. You're stupid. You are uninformed. But you can have that opinion. But God forbid, God forbid, you have the opinion that is opposite of that. God forbid in this country, ABC, NBC, CBS, anyone allows someone with the opposite point of view and a big enough mouth to make that every day, God forbid they allow them to have an hour of television nationwide, mainstream television. God forbid that ever happens. But you'll put Rosie O'Donnell on ABC. You'll put Keith Olbermann, now with specials, on NBC. You've got Katie Couric and her embedded news on CBS. Where is the other side? Where is the mainstream other side? It doesn't exist. Why? Because it's not politically correct.
[...]
STU: The tactic is noted in that when these shows come out -- I mean, and she's not out there -- I don't think of her as someone who's hiding the fact that she's liberal.
BECK: No, she's not.
STU: She doesn't say it, but that's how it --
BECK: Katie Couric is. Katie Couric is.
STU: Yeah, I mean, I can -- that -- like, it's a -- it's a different rule. She's out there -- I mean, Rosie O'Donnell's just stupid. She's out there blabbing her mouth at 100 million miles per hour, and she has no idea what she's talking about, where Katie Couric probably really does look into this stuff and believes it. And there's a difference there. I mean, Rosie O'Donnell's just crazy. I don't think -- that's why they have ratings on that show, because she's nuts.

"Where is the other side?" asked Glenn Beck.
Answer: FOX NOISE MACHINE
on 24 hours each and every day.
Instructor: 1 + 1 = 2
Beck: I answered 3. Where is the other side? I think that to be fair we have to look at the fact that many Americans would have answered 3* and all sides need to be considered. What about 4? π?
* No Child Left Behind
2+2=5
let b=bullsh*t
b=mc^2
Hey Beck you not only seem like a scum sucking ignoramous, I question whether or not you are a soulless pederast that cannot cast a reflection in a mirror. But I didnt call you any names I just said you SEEM like one and QUESTION whether or not you are the other. However its pretty clear you ARE bone ignorant
And I quote: "she's the stereotypical bitch"
Beck's the stereotypical right wing frootbat. Now, I didn't say he's a right wing frootbat, so don't say I said that.
It's like I always say, that's why this guy's ratings are rock bottom every night. He's just complete garbage.
Maybe that's why he claims there's no "other side," besides Rosie, Katie, et.al.
It seems to me that HE'S the other side, among many others, but if he's not getting ratings, I guess he thinks he's not.
Here's a very scary fact: Beck is a big hit and idol of lots of college kids. They love him.
I say draft them all...
Rock bottom? Compared to what... the other leading news shows? The left is so far off the charts it's pitiful.
This whole thing is guy humor about a woman he doesn't like. Lefties say the same thing about Laura Ingraham or Ann Coulter. It's man jokes, humor, etc. he's talking about voice range, frequencies, etc... all you are seeing is words on a screen. Try listening to the show to get the real intent, the real humor, and you just might get it.
Either that or your shorts are too tight making you whiny and bitter. Lighten up lefties.
So it's ok to say ANYTHING you want, as long as you act like you're kidding?
You're the biggest moron I've ever known of...just kidding.
Oh yeah, and Rosie get's it right, that's why her viewers love her.
"i never said that hillary clinton was a b*tch, i said she sounded like one..." sounds exactly like the normal right wing argument on mmfa. i didn't actually say she was a b*tch.....show me where i said that.... [i couldn't get it to post without the *]
Yeah,
When you get right down to it, these Publicans are the most gutless pieces of dirt in the world.
Maybe Olbermann should start a new category: Tonight's most gutless con in the world is....
Hey, but Beck DID say she was a bitch. He's a liar.
Hey Beck et al. Show some balls for once and just say it. You think Rosie and Hillary and any other women with a strong voice and opinion sound like a bitch to you. What is wrong with you?Are you afraid? You sound like you are trying to be too PC.If that is what you think just say it. You keep dancing around the issue. Kinda like what you accuse the libs/dems (same thing to you) of trying to do. Personaly I respect these women for the courage to speak their minds (even with their "grating god given voices". Imagine if you were them for a moment and no matter what you said it was characterized by the sound not the substance. I think I would get kinda bitchy too.
Glenn Beck is a disease, let's find the cure and call it a day.
God gorbid..
I mean, God forbid, Beck... You know you sound like, God forbid... I hate to say this, God forbid... but, God Forbid, Beck, you are more annoying than, God forbid, any woman's voice.
Now, I've been nervous about saying this, but... a really sick part of me just lol'ed at that post.
Pardon the language, and I mean this respectfully, but there's a part of me that wants to LOL at you both, God forbid.
Well, I think Glen Beck's voice is too annoying for words. And Chris Matthews sounds like a braying @ss. You know Joe Scarborough sounds kinda shrill sometimes and Michael Savage Weiner sounds like a nutbag on speed. Now whether these guys are bioches or not, gee I don't know. Maybe they just "sound" like it.
Juliajayne, you've offended my sensibilities with your misogynist slurs. And made me laugh. Har.
Beck is a proud member of the Republi-cancer party.
Says something, then squeals like a little six-year old and runs and hides in the closet.
PATHETIC!!!
Well, I never said that Glenn Beck is a divisive anti-American terrorist enabler, I just said he sounds like a divisive anti-American terrorist enabler. Nor did I ever say that Glenn Beck is a self-loathing closeted homosexual, but rather that he sounds like a self-loathing closeted homosexual.
Nor did I ever say that Glenn Beck is being paid by the RNC to launch baseless attacks against Dem candidates, but that he sounds like he is being paid by the RNC to launch baseless attacks against Dem candidates.
Beck calling anyone stupid or crazy?! Glenn, you may be a "thinker" - but you're short on irony.
Where is the other side?!?
Olbermann is sandwiched between two right-wing hosts(Tucker Carlson and Joe Scarborough). Not to mention the fact that Beck himself has an hour-long television program. Also, has he not heard of Fox News? I am told they the most watched name in "news."
You can have Tucker Carlson if you want.
Leather, if you Republicans don't want Tucker, why would anyone else want him? GOP is end of the line, there's nowhere to trade down.Well, maybe the 700 club's looking for a free agent.
They could trade him for two gofers to get coffee and a production assistant to be named later.
Actually, there is more room to trade down. Worse than the GOP and even than the 700 club you have left-wing bloggers. But, it would take so many to make it worth a trade. And then all you get is worthless blather.
How about right wing trolls that come to websites and post "liberals are dumb" or something equally insightful?
How pathetic is that? I mean they waste all this time and don't actually say anything....
Yeah, they're just as bad...
Hey, wait a minute!
The other side is in places like Democracy Now or Counterpunch. Places people like Beck don't even know about. He's so pop-culture they should slap a Pepsi logo on his forehead.
Aside from the fact that this whole "your side/our side" mentality is juvenile and deleterious to discourse of any kind, it is telling that all Beckie can offer up as examples of the liberal "side" of MSM are Rosie O'Donnell (as if The View consisted solely of one hour of Rosie's political opinions), Keith Olbermann getting occasional specials (gasp!) on NBC and Katie Couric, who is to journalism as Wonder Bread is to nutrition. What a freaking left-wing juggernaut! And Beckie, who, as others have pointed out, is the shrillest harpy in the noise machine in his own right, conveniently forgets to mention his own NIGHTLY SHOW ON CNN for pity's sake, as well as his contributions to GMA, when asking "where is the mainstream other side?" Sad, pathetic, shallow and typical Beckie. . . (thank God he's not on OUR side!!!)
I can't believe MMFA has stooped so low as to protect Rosie O'Donnell.
Of course if she were a righty and mocked someone's chinese, MMFA would have been all over her.
Of course, we all know Rosie apologized immediately for that -- unlike your typical conservative.
Hey open_mind,
While an apology [genuine or not] is better than no apology, it does not, IMO, absolve the speaker of their remark and/or action.
You said it...you own it.
It does appear that Beck, like O'Reilly, suffers from a convenient memory loss when it comes to remarks they have made...which are easily documented.
Yeah, heaven forbid anybody defend Rosie from being smeared. It's not like she's human, right?
I can't wait for Beck to call Hitler a Satan-worshiping homosexual so that, when MMFA points out that he said it, Leatherhelmet can pop up to complain that they're defending Hitler.
Beck's got some cahones claiming he only said Clinton Sounded like a Bitch. Even if that falsehood were true, shouldn't he look in the mirror every day and thank Lush Rimjob for provding him a material and a format for which he rips off everyday. And speaking of voices. Isn't Beck's voice a rip-off of the Greaseman's voice when Beck tries to that feigend satire voice he does. Its the Greaseman's voice. And by the way, can Stu sound any gayer"? Why would a straight person put on a gay sounding radio voice? Its not exactly the Kasey kasem fake radio voice format is it? I mean, I understand "Don't ask Don't tell" is the Army policy when it comes to gays, but doesn't that appear to be the Republican Party's policy too, what with all the secret Repub gays that continually get exposed. Wow these guys got some brass ones.
Beck and his sidekick must be on LSD or something. They are hallucinating and imagining things in Hillary's voice. I am just amazed though at how his audience also convince themselves that there is something "grating" in her voice, but they only hallucinate it after hearing Beck talk about it, except for his audience that already knows that he is full of shoot.
I just want to make it clear that I am not calling him a drug addict OK. I never said that he addicted to drugs. I am only saying that he is on drugs now.
Lets See Where The Other Side Is
If Glenn Beck would be quiet long enough to take notice who he is employed by, he will see where "the other side" is. CNN has been trying to steal the conservative title for the last five years. MSNBC, ABC, and Fox news represents the right-wing hate Party very well.
Kieth Olbermann represents 5% of the total news production coming out of MSNBC. I would call Tucker Carlson, Joe Scarborough, and Chris Mathews very conservative in their leanings. I guest he calls Fox news "fair and balanced," and I am not joking. By my count, there is only right-winged media filling the airways, and all these claims about left-wing dominance in the news is a diversion.
People like Beck have enough resources to know who has the dominant media representation in today's news. Beck knows this and so does the rest of the right-wing hate mongers. The American people have the ability to find out who has the most prime time representation in the news.
Maybe, after the 2008 elections, the right will unhappily make the assertion that the left will have the airways. When that day comes, I will be the first to say it with a proud assurance the Democrats will make a functional difference.
Joseph
So, what point is mmfa trying to make here? That Clinton is a bitch or that O'Donnell is stupid? The problem I have is that both are correct, so is mmfa trying to point out how correct Beck is? That doesn't seem to fit in line with the mission statement of mmfa, though.
I know AP, don't worry is will be ok. Shhhh don't cry big guy...
I would be upset and angry too if I found out that my hero is really a loud mouth coward that has to hide behind semantics when he is asked to take responsibility for the things that he says.
It will be ok, there are plenty of other blathering idiots for you to worship.
Glen Beck sounds like a f****t.
Doesn't Glen Beck sound like a child molester? Is it just me? I mean, aren't you afraid for your children when you hear his voice? You'd expect he would have been locked up a few times for child molesting by now. Of course he'd be let out once he showed he wasn't a child molester, but you'd expect him to be locked up again as soon as he opened his mouth in another city. I'd sure hate to be Glen Beck if he opens his mouth to a man who's child has been molested. Kudos to CNN and ABC for employing Glen Beck with his child molester voice.
