On the March 27 edition of Fox News' Special Report, Fox News White House correspondent Wendell Goler said, "Ironically, the president's authority to fire U.S. attorneys, even for political reasons, seems to have been overshadowed by, well, politics." As part of his evidence for that assertion, Goler claimed that Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) is the "chair[]" of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and a member of the House Judiciary Committee, and then aired a clip of Emanuel criticizing the administration's actions in response to the controversy over the firings of eight U.S. attorneys. But Emanuel is neither chairman of the DCCC nor a member of the House Judiciary Committee.

Goler stated that Emanuel and Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) are the "chairs of their party's congressional campaign committees, which have used the Gonzales controversy to raise money." In fact, while Emanuel was the DCCC chairman for the 109th Congress, the current chairman is Rep. Chris Van Hollen (MD). Emanuel is the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus.

Goler then continued, "Both men [Schumer and Emanuel] are also Judiciary Committee members [in their respective houses of Congress], waiting for their chance to question administration officials." Neither Van Hollen nor Emanuel is listed as a current member of the House Judiciary Committee.

From the March 27 edition of Fox News' Special Report with Brit Hume:

GOLER: Ironically, the president's authority to fire U.S. attorneys, even for political reasons, seems to have been overshadowed by, well, politics. New York Senator Chuck Schumer and Illinois Congressman Rahm Emanuel are chairs of their party's congressional campaign committees, which have used the Gonzales controversy to raise money. Both men are also Judiciary Committee members, waiting for their chance to question administration officials.

EMANUEL [video clip]: The White House though, from whether it's in public or private, under oath or not, stenographer or not, has yet to come forward and just tell the truth.

I'm beginning to think "Special Report" is "Special" in the "Special Olympics" sense of the word.

If they would make all of their reporters wear helmets, and give every one of them a ribbon at the end of the show, it would be a little more on the up & up.

Apparently Goler has determined that any reason's good enough, he only wishes Bush's authority wasn't "overshadowed".

      Is this whole show ad-libbed?

fox noise! always throwing stuff against the fan, hoping something resonates with the feeble minded repubs that go to fox noise for their news. perfect description of the typical believer of fox noise.......beligerently uninformed. goler's been doing this since the swiftboat drunks scam pre 2004 election that i know of and he sounds sincere enough. if a person is depending on him and his ilk at fox noise for facts they are going to be just that...beligerently uninformed

That kinda reinforces the statement: "Ignorance is bliss" a little more strongly.

Where is MMFA? on the IRAN war drum that the media is beating?  If you watch any news story on CNN or Fox or MSNBC they are soooo biased toward the US Govt's position.  I'm not pro-Iran but it's funny to see Anderson Cooper call the british soldiers hostages and try to make it look like Iran did something wrong (they may have) without knowing for sure if the Brits violated their waters or not.  The media IS the tool of the govt and thats why they all have dinner together.

What does Iran have to do with the post?  Can you comment on that or are you trying to change the subject?

They're too busy whining about any mistake or insult made against Democrats. They're not interested in issue politics, just party mud-slinging.

It should be noted that the US had itself taken several Iranian diplomats hostage very recently.

Of course Goler lied: he works for FoxLies, after all.

Besides, the charges that the hearings are "all politics, all the time" has to be entered into the official record at some point, so that eventual resignations, indictments, and even impeachments will be undermined.

This is one of those things that goes beyond duplicity into simplicity: saying people serve on the Judiciary Committee who don't is kind of like attacking John Edwards because he claims to be a psychic who sees dead people.

It's the sort of thing that makes even loyalists doubt their competence.

Of course, Ann Coulter once told a Canadian journalist that Canada sent troops to Vietnam, and was incredulous when the interviewer corrected her--and it didn't seem to have affected her career, so mayne I'm wrong...

Fox News should change their claim of being "Fair and Balanced" to "In The Land of The Blind, The Man With One Eye is King".  They have been this administration number one propaganda machine and have led Foxites blindly by not asking tough questions, selective reporting of non-interest news, being the number one source of covering up the truth, misinformation and by attacking the messenger.
