Tumulty suggested Clinton is using Imus controversy to raise money

In an April 11 post on Time magazine's Swampland weblog, Time Washington bureau chief Jay Carney observed that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) "has put out a statement condemning" MSNBC host Don Imus' recent reference to the Rutgers women's basketball team as "nappy-headed hos." Carney further noted that Clinton "has a link on her website that allows visitors to 'send a message of respect and support' to the young women of Rutgers.' " In a follow-up post, however, Time national political correspondent Karen Tumulty appeared to suggest that Clinton's campaign is attempting to benefit from the recent controversy. Tumulty wrote: "Hmmm ... and right next to that Respect for Rutgers/"Send a Message" link on her website is a big red one that says CONTRIBUTE. Sisterhood is powerful."

But the "CONTRIBUTE" icon Tumulty referred to was not "right next" to the "Respect for Rutgers" link. Rather, it is a permanent fixture on the home page of the Clinton campaign's website (as are large red "contribute" buttons also on the campaign websites of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R)).

Following is a screen capture of HillaryClinton.com at 7 p.m. ET on April 11. The link regarding the Rutgers women's basketball team can be seen on the left, and the contribution icon appears on the right sidebar:

As a cached screen capture from April 6 clearly shows, however, the contribute button was present on the right sidebar even before her "Respect for Rutgers" announcement was posted.

Furthermore, there is no prominent contribution link in the section of Clinton's website where supporters can leave messages for the Rutgers women:

And if Senator Clinton were seeking contributions to support her effort to change the Washington support for racist, sexist commonplaces in Washington and the Media, what would be wrong with that? Even if the "contribute" button were "right next to" the "support" message?

Tumulty's primary problems are that 1) she cannot find a means to solicit contributions herself, lacking any history of defense of or support for, those attacked by Washington and/or the Corporate Media; and 2) that she sees none of the Repugnant candidates better positioned than herself.

So, of course it has to be a bad thing, unfair somehow.

I don't know that this is a ploy to raise money...I think it's more about trying to secure Black votes.

      Just a typical political move.

Yeah, bringing your message of solidarity to a voting block is such a shady thing to do.

          Did I say "shady"??

Nope I said "Just a typical political move"

Or are YOU inferring it's the same thing?

So campain for public funding of the race. We pay, eitherway. If it came from us directly vs though an industrail intermediary. It could be a good thing.

Dear Jesus. How stupid can people really get and STILL draw a breath? I mean, Karen Tumtummy has less brain activity than the deceased Terri Schiavo (rest her soul).

Notice Hillary's site photo? Where all the white women at?

This is a bad sign. I was hoping we would not get the nanny Hillary from yesteryear, but the fact that she feels sorry for these girls tells me otherwise.

Yeah, it's just awful that she has actual sympathy for others.

Perhaps she could teach that to the current maladministration. They sure need it.

Sure, the fact that she sympathized with people targeted by a racial slur shows that she is an overly sensitive PC leftist.

          Or something.
