GOP strategist Blakeman again accused Dem leader of "giv[ing] aid and comfort to our enemy"
On the April 20 edition of MSNBC Live, during a discussion of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's (D-NV) recent assertion that the Iraq war "is lost" -- which he followed by stating that it "can only be won diplomatically, politically, and economically" -- Republican strategist Brad Blakeman said that Reid "is absolutely, 100 percent wrong" and that "[h]is statements give aid and comfort to our enemy and demoralize our troops."
Media Matters for America documented a similar assertion Blakeman made regarding House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-CA) recent meeting with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad in Damascus. On the April 6 edition of MSNBC Live, Blakeman said that Pelosi "abandoned her post up on Capitol Hill" and went to Syria "to give aid and comfort to him [Assad] instead of funding our troops."
According to Article III of the U.S. Constitution, "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort."
From the 3 p.m. ET hour of the April 20 edition of MSNBC Live:
MIKA BRZEZINSKI (host): Brad, let me get you to respond to that, but let me add this, that GOP lawmakers are responding to Reid's comment. And let's just take a quick listen to what [Sen] John McCain [R-AZ] had to say.
McCAIN [video clip]: Having just come from Iraq, that's not the view of the men and women who are putting their lives on the line as we speak.
BRZEZINSKI: Brad, your response. First of all, is he right?
BLAKEMAN: No, he's -- John McCain is right. The majority leader of the Senate is absolutely, 100 percent wrong. His statements give aid and comfort to our enemy and demoralize our troops. To say "the war is lost" is outrageous.

"[h]is statements give aid and comfort to our enemy and demoralize our troops."
Even if this was remotely close to being true, how is that worse than feeding our enemy (whoever the heck that is in Iraq) more soldiers blow up?
How does a leadership that is so clearly out of touch with the reality in Iraq do anything other than demoralise the troops? How does an administration (and its compliant Congressional leadership) consistently underfunding the VA not demoralise the troops.
But heaven forbid anyone point that out. Because that would "give aid and comfort to the enemy."
What is the VA?
Seeminly Mr. Gates dos not seem to be on the same page as the administration and our dancing singing allstar media. Will Mr. Blakeman be straightening him out soon. Unamity of opinion is important here. Maybe Gates is actually trying to do his job. I'll keep an open mind on Gates. Otherwise ya yah I'm Mr. Blakeman and I'm hiding behind these handy Marines here, who , trust me, are ready to protect me from you.
It is very sad indeed that a country that was to have been founded on the principles of liberty for all, freedom, rule of law, and decency can be so manipulated into believing that turning our backs on these ideals is American, while demanding that we hold true to those ideals and demand that we live by them that we are called un-American or un-Patriotic......
They may say it and think it.......
But I know that they are WRONG!!
As for Pelosi going to Syria to try and use diplomacy with a small hope to help end the disaster called Bush foreign policy,
Well, somebody had to do it because our comander-in-thief wouldn't!
"To say "the war is lost" is outrageous."
Harry Reid spoke the truth and it's about time someone in Washington had the balls to do it. Get our troops home and end this senseless slaughter. The war in Iraq is NOT the war on terror. It always was, and remains, the folly of George W. Bush and a bunch of crackpot neoconservatives trying to rearrange the world as though it was a board game. Think of the billions upon billions of dollars we are wasting in Iraq that we could have used to take intelligent measures to protect ourselves from further Islamic extremist terrorist attacks. Why haven't we killed Osama Bin Laden, and crippled the new breed of AlQaeda leaders, hiding in Pakistan?
If it were really treason, wouldn't the obvious question coming from a legitimate newsperson be...."when will you bring formal charges against __________?"
This is so obviously blustering hyperbole that it's logical follow thru is ignored completely. No one takes this seriously, but they sure broadcast the hype. It's professional wrestling...political style.
The president's plan is to lose but BLAME this loss on others. In Iraq, we lost long ago. We could not ever have won because our reasons for going were phony. And Bush created the structure for which this deception was built.
SAVE DEMOCRACY, VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT!!
All those whom are nausiated when you hear a Republican speak of "aid & comfort to the enemy" when refering to a Democrat speaking the truth about the war, please read, and take to heart of the title above!

The war was lost the moment we decided on the "Rumsfeld Doctrine" and tried to fight a "pc" war. The hands of our troops were tied from the moment it started and the only thing we can do now is get out and prepare for the inevitable genocide that the soft approach to the Iraq war will cause.
My bad, wrong thread.
Yeah,
The "lets bomb the hell out of them; how dare they be living there when we happened to invade" thread is two doors down.
If those are your only options, your not looking very hard for them.
Colonel Kurtz would be proud of you.
The horror... the horror...
Yeah thats our problem in Iraq, we just arent killing enough innocent people. Thats why we havent won their hearts and minds.
That's the small print on the "Bush Doctrine". If you can't liberate them, kill them.
Whenever one of these Troglodytes comes on here and bemoans how we've "tied the hands of our military", I have to laugh. What planet are they living on? We defeated the Iraqi Army within a few days. Where we've gone wrong is by turning our fine killing machine into a defacto police force in an occupied land. They weren't trained for that, and there aren't enough of them over there to do that successfully. Bush set them up for failure when he decided to turn Iraq into some kind of NeoCon Free Market Paradise. He couldn't very well do that while turning our soldiers loose to destroy the country. So, you can't blame "political correctness" for this one. No, this cluster f*ck belongs to Bush and the Republicans.
Well considering the bang-up job Bush and Company have done so far, is it any wonder we've lost the war in Iraq? All I see here is spin, spin and more spin. God, what a moron this guy is.
...Harry Reid's (D-NV) recent assertion that the Iraq war "is lost" -- which he followed by stating that it "can only be won diplomatically, politically, and economically"
Wait, Reid's not "cutting and running", he's only pointing out the failure of a military approach.Whether he's right or wrong about this, it's interesting that even alternatives to an obviously losing strategy are considered "quitter talk".
The only thing that I cans say about Blakeman's comment is WAFD!
I'm sorry... that should read WALFD.
