Ignoring her extensive record of bright colors and big smiles, Fox's Cameron said Clinton wearing both to solve "likability problem"
On the May 9 edition of Fox News' Special Report with Brit Hume, chief political correspondent Carl Cameron claimed that during a May 9 campaign stop in Annapolis, Maryland, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) adopted an uncharacteristic wardrobe and sunny expression in order to benefit politically. He said: "Wearing bright colors, smiling constantly, as if to deal with what polls say is a likability problem, she has surged 10 points since the Democratic debate in three new polls: USA Today/Gallup, CNN, and Rasmussen." In fact, Clinton has worn bright-colored clothing and smiled in numerous prior appearances.

Cameron's assertion recalled the remarks of Washington Post editorial page editor Fred Hiatt, who in his March 26 column wrote that in a photograph of a March 4 commemorative civil rights march in Selma, Alabama, Sen. Clinton "appear[ed] grimly determined to walk on," while former President Bill Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) were "each grinning and apparently having the time of his life." Hiatt, who conceded that the photo may have been "an unlucky shot," had earlier asked, "Is it coincidence that the two touted as the front-runners at the start [of the presidential race], Hillary Clinton and John McCain, seem to be having the least fun?" Although Hiatt did not specify which photograph he was discussing, other photographs of the Selma march show Sen. Clinton smiling along with President Clinton and Obama.
From the May 9 edition of Fox News' Special Report with Brit Hume:
CAMERON: In Annapolis, receiving the endorsement of Democratic Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley, Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton has surged back to a significant lead in the polls over Illinois Senator Barack Obama.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We're very excited about the first girl president.
CAMERON: Wearing bright colors, smiling constantly, as if to deal with what polls say is a likability problem, she has surged 10 points since the Democratic debate in three new polls: USA Today/Gallup, CNN, and Rasmussen. The Real Clear Politics average of national polls gives Clinton a double-digit lead across the country. And with a quasi-national primary set for February 5th, national polls may matter as much as the early test states like New Hampshire, where Clinton also has the advantage.

Holy Crap! I can forgive her for her Iraq War vote, but not.....THIS!
Seriously. How ridiculous of a comment to make. Who gives a flying f*ck?
I didn't hear them comment like that on Bush weaqring a flight suit. Give the american voting public more credit than smoke and mirror campaigns by the media pundits.
ooops, fat fingers....wearing, not weagring.
This is pretty dumb. Unless Cameron has footage of Hillary's guest appearance on SNL's "Goth Talk", this is dumb.
Now I see they are bright and cheery outfits, but until I see the label attached as to who the designer is - how much can I really like her?
That's right. This just won't be a juicy enough political issue until we know clothing labels, store names and price tags.
How are we supposed to decide at the ballot box if we don't have all the candidates' wardrobe and grooming dirt that's crucial to making an informed decision?
Gee whiz a politician running for office smiling. What a great idea.
Bright colors make people likable?
Ok, I'm wearing a *bright* red shirt & smiling my 100 watt best.
Do ya like me? :-)
Fox News is getting sillier by the day.
And, really, some of those outfits are definitely pastels.
If it's true that a brightly colored wardrobe and a big thousand-watt smile, are just what's needed to solve the "likability problem"...
...then just what kind of clown suit and capped teeth it is, that would salvage George W. Bush's presidency, I wonder.
These pictures are obviously planted by the "liberal media" whose only agenda is to foist a blantantly bright and cheery far-left socialist on an unwary public.
They look Photoshopped to me. I bet they were all gray, originally.
This is all Soros' doing.
Next on Fox - Did militant queers-homosexual force Hillary Clinton to wear all of those bright and fabulous outfits?.
Soros buys Hilary's clothes!
Maybe Soros also bought Cameron's brightly colloored grey suit...hahahahahahaha i am so funny...
Did anybody else notice the crayola colors in those outfits? My gosh. (Actually I could care less. Let her wear a blue dress everytime is fine with me.)
As an aside, I wonder how many pictures MMFA had to go through to get their eight examples.
I guess Hill is fighting fire with fire. Barak isn't the only person who is a "a person of color". ;-)
Well, she is greeting or meeting someone is most of the photos.. At least she has good manners when they are needed the most.. That will just melt those hard-core middle-easterners when the time comes..
actually it was the bush administration that ruled out responding to the cole. i'm sure hillary can beat that. and i have always said that if the republicans are counting on painting her as the dragon lady, they are going to be sorely disappointed. i've seen her on meet the press and other shows and she come off well. i think the republicans thought they had a senate seat all locked up in 2000, and she took it running away. i think chances are about 80% she's the next prez. [if anyone wants to read about an ice princess first lady, check out kitty kelly's bio of nancy reagan. about how dear nancy had ronnie's kids by jane wyman shipped off to boarding school.]
comes off well
your 80 percent rate kind of surprises me.. As much as I hate to say it, I'm not so sure all of America is ready for their first female president.. I might be mistaken and misguided and Miss Daisy, but that's the way I see it..
i think it's dependent on what happens in the run up to 08. another terrorist attack, etc., but i think she can win, and possibly by a large margin. but it's a long time to go.
They could probably find a lot more, but 8 or 10 seems like enough to prove what a lying sh*&bag carl cameron (lowercase intentional) really is.
I don't think it would be wise for Hillary to wear a blue dress.
I also find it creepy that MMFA keeps files of pictures of what Hillary wears.
"Wearing bright colors, smiling constantly, as if to deal with what polls say is a likability problem, "
Geez, what is Cheney trying to accomplsh then?
Good point. I think something in a pastel would do wonders.
If we new where Cheney slept during the day, maybe we could reline his coffin in pastels some night when he's out rustling up a meal.
Deja Vu...AGAIN! Remember the "earth tones" attack on Gore? My God! The Flying Monkeys are chasing their own tails, and they finally caught themselves!
I now do not like Carl... Faux *news* has a likability problem in that the likability of them EVER saying something truthful or meaningful is ZILCH!!
"her extensive record of bright colors and big smiles"
Someone out there is actually keeping track of this?? Honestly, when I think of Hillary, bright eyed and bushy tailed isn't really the first thing that comes to mind.. I must remember all of the frowning during her hubby's term..
Could Soros and Ted turner be collaborating on some evil colorizing scheme? I've got to get to work on my chart.
You might be too late. o'reaily already had the inside track his chart is done and ready for tonights airing.
and it will be bright red, mimicing his temper and his splotches...
Can you imagine BO sprawled out on his office floor wit his box o' crayons concentrating on staying in the lines.
"This'll teach those darn libs!"
GWBush never stayed within the lines. Most of the lines ended up staying within him.
Hey! If Bill never INHALED, then Bush never... umm. ahhh.. he never... CRAP! Well.... at least Bush became PRESIDENT! Oh, wait... damn... well, in a nutshell, Bush is better.. THAN AN ALLEY CAT!!
'RIMSHOT'
I like this thread. It's like the Don Rickles Zone.
As long as KEVIN1007 stays out of it.
Fear not...SpyBoy will be along shortly to insist that Hillary NEVER smiled during the 90s. He's just trying to find the appropriate cut-and-paste in his extensive talking points collection.
Oh no you diin't!
Monk, here's an old joke [updated w/Tony Snow] but seems to fit nicely with your post.
=====
Fire Destroys Bush Presidential Library
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A tragic fire on Monday destroyed the personal library of President George W. Bush. Both of his books have been lost.
Presidential spokesman Tony Snow said the president was devastated, as he had not finished coloring the second one.
See I knew you guys had a sense of humor.
I believe Jack Kemp made that joke about Bob Dole before they ran on the same ticket.
It's Cameron who has a little problem...
It's a credibility problem.
"In fact, Clinton has worn bright-colored clothing and smiled in numerous prior appearances."
Who cares? Really? It must be a really slow news day today. Must not be a lot of conservative "misinformation" today. This might be the most pointless post by MMFA of all time.
I guess you'd better move the push pins on your wall chart to indicate this.
I think the bigger shame is that Fox "News" even brought this up to begin with. I realize that they were created to carry the GOP's water, but this is a bit tedious, don't you think?
They were right when they said that Hillary Clinton has a likability problem. But I'll admit that the comment about the wardrobe and the smile was pretty ridiculous as well. Also, Fox News isn't any more in the tank for the Republicans than MSNBC is for the Democrats. Fox News might lean right but they're not a partisan organization. O'Reilly at least tries to be fair every once in a while. Olbermann takes the far left view 100% of the time and NEVER criticizes liberals or Democrats.
I don't care who you are....that's funny.
Rino, folks were having a party in this thread and you come along and tip the punch bowl. Then you set the pinata ablaze and pee on the cupcakes. Keep this up and you won't be invited to any parties.
The thread isn't about Hillary. It's about what Fox deems newsworthy.
Since they deem this newsworthy, one has to wonder, "What are they hiding?"
My guess is that they've got some WMDs.
I suggestion invasion and occupation.
Holly, what's a party without a clown? That was a hilarious act.
And the sign of a truly gifted performer is their ability to appear quite serious as they spout what can only be taken as satire.
Well done, RINO.
He's a clown? But I'm afraid of clowns. They're always smilin'. What're they hidin'? They're as shifty as Fox News.
Killer Klowns from outer space. Watch it...
Oh, NOW you show up, Holly Dearest. At this hour of the week, and reeking of saffron.
I should have known that it would take a party.
Neon, you know the rule: Anyone who calls me "Holly Dearest" gets half a bluhgillion HollyChips (TM).
Spend them wisely.
P.S. - And reeking of saffron? But of course!
FOX News has kept Carl Cameron on as a political reporter for seven years, even though his wife was a campaign worker for Bush in 2000. The credibility problem is just as much a part of this as Cameron being wrong.
Shouldn't this sort of gossip be saved for Joan Rivers? Where'd this kid Cameron get his credentials anyway?
....Not that you need credentials for Fox.
Seriously, when did the presidency become a popularity contest? W was touted as the sort of prez with whom you'd want to share a beer and barbecue. That folksy appeal helped elect him...and behold what remains of the treasury, the Constitution, America's reputation, and Iraq. Was Lincoln, with his monstrous melancholy and bumpy mug, likeable? Was mercurial Michaelangelo likeable? We shouldn't elect presidents because we like 'em. I like my cat. That doesn't mean I think he should sit in the Oval Office.
That must have been almost impossible to smile while being sworn in by Cheney.
