On the June 5 edition of his nationally syndicated radio program, Fox News host John Gibson said he was putting one of his "groups of enemies on notice" after receiving a "demand[] for a retraction" from Media Matters for America. Gibson said that "they are complaining that I said something about them which isn't true, which was that, basically, it was a front for [Sen.] Hillary [Rodham Clinton (D-NY)]." As Media Matters noted, Gibson falsely stated on his June 1 radio show that Media Matters was "invented" and "funded" by "the Hillary Clinton campaign."

Gibson also claimed that Media Matters has been "taking money from the Tides Foundation, which is a George Soros-funded operation. Over a short period of years, got $3.5 million, and they spend all their time now attacking anybody who breathes a word about not liking Hillary." As previously indicated, Soros has never given money to Media Matters, either directly or through another organization. As Media Matters documented when Fox News host Bill O'Reilly falsely suggested that Soros funded Media Matters through the Tides Foundation, Soros' Open Society Institute's donations to Tides were all designated for specific programs, and Media Matters was not included on this list.

Gibson did not retract his false statement. Instead, he said he enjoys this "good little fight."

From the June 5 edition of Fox News Radio's The John Gibson Show:

GIBSON: We're going to start off with -- I have to put one of our groups of enemies on notice. I have not given up the fight. Angry Rich, you really ticked them off the other day.

ANGRY RICH (executive producer): Well, that's just too bad, isn't it?

GIBSON: Yeah, it is just too bad. Think Progress and Media Matters are now complaining -- well, Media Matters is --

AUDIO CLIP: "A boastful, passionate, whispering, masculine kind of love."

GIBSON: Ooh, you think? That's an interesting observation from Bob. They're -- they are complaining that I said something about them which isn't true, which was that, basically, it was a front for Hillary.

AUDIO CLIP: "It's super fabulous!"

GIBSON: Now, they -- today, Chrissy, you got one of those --

CHRISTINE (associate producer): I did.

GIBSON: -- demands for a retraction, didn't you?

CHRISTINE: Yes, I did. I got a call and an email today.

GIBSON: Angry Rick, for the audience who doesn't know or care --

ANGRY RICH: Right.

GIBSON: -- what Media Matters is, would you explain it?

ANGRY RICH: It's a far-left website that tries to get people like you thrown off the air.

GIBSON: And what has been their theme over the last two or three weeks, especially?

ANGRY RICH: Anybody that says anything bad about Hillary --

GIBSON: Ah.

ANGRY RICH: -- ends up on their site.

GIBSON: And I see. And they attack anybody who might say anything bad about Hillary.

ANGRY RICH: Yeah, I wonder why.

GIBSON: Well, you know, the -- I know they're listening. Media Matters was founded in the offices of John Podesta, a Hillary apparatchik. They have been taking money from the Tides Foundation, which is a George Soros-funded operation. Over a short period of years, got $3.5 million, and they spend all their time now attacking anybody who breathes a word about not liking Hillary.

I don't know why they don't like me. I have been quite -- I praised Hillary, haven't I? I've said I have confidence that if she were president, she'd bomb somebody --

AUDIO CLIP: (singing) "Hillary Clinton is a man."

GIBSON: -- and I'm looking for the next president to bomb somebody.

ANGRY RICH: You've been very supportive.

GIBSON: I don't want that Obama "kumbaya" stuff. I want -- I'd still want an aggressive war on terror president. Hillary's trying to hide it from her far-left base right now, but I know the real Hillary. Not that I'd vote for her, but if she became president, I wouldn't, like, move to Canada, like Alec Baldwin, you know. Well, I might.

ANGRY RICH: So, they're on notice now.

GIBSON: I hope they're on notice.

AUDIO CLIP: "I'm super! Thanks for asking."

GIBSON: I mean, they're, you know, they -- I half-think bathtub boy put them up to it, 'cause he's --

ANGRY RICH: He does his entire show based upon whatever's on the website.

GIBSON: Yeah, he just takes scripts from the Media Matters website and then, you know, he -- I attack him so he doesn't feel like attacking me. Or I didn't attack him, I just threw an elbow at him -- so he gets Media Matters to do it. Anyway, this matters little to all of you out there because it's sort of inside baseball stuff, but it's what I deal with all day. You know, in this world, if you've got Fox in front of your name --

ANGRY RICH: Bull's-eye right on that back.

GIBSON: Just bring a knife to work, you're going to need it. They're going to be coming over the balustrades trying to get you, and you're going to have to defend yourself. And, I'm more -- I like it. It's a good little fight.

ANGRY RICH: It's a nice catharsis for you --

GIBSON: Yeah, it is.

ANGRY RICH: -- what's happening right now. Sure.

GIBSON: Thirty-two years sitting here doing this stuff -- you know what? -- every once in a while you like to say, "Well, let's throw some elbows. Let's just -- what the heck?"

First Savage, then O'Reilly, now Gibson.......do all they read from the same playbook, and does their audience, or anybody, really care how this website is funded or who they are a "front" for?

Guys, get on with your salient political analysis and leave the MMFA bashing to us posters, will ya?

Now Tommy, there are only a few posters that bash MMFA and you're their king. I on the other hand LOVE MMFA. I've learned a lot here both from the MMFA threads and its related links and the posters and the reputable links they provide. Being here has also helped me rid myself of long held biases I hadn’t even considered I had. The truth is I grew up with a bias against Republicans-Conservatives. I made assumptions about millions of people based on stereotypes I learned while growing up, and reinforced by the rhetoric of a FEW load mouth Republican-Conservative pundits and talk show hosts that now I know are representatives of the extreme right of the Republican Party.  I was truly wrong to do that. So now I can respect that while I may have a stark difference in political philosophy than most Conservatives I can still respect that they’re decent people. MMFA’s a good thing!

        LET'S LAY OUT THE FACTS.

Gibson claimed that MMFA was "invented" and "funded" by "the Hillary Clinton campaign."

Not by people who might LIKE Hillary, or people who may have one time worked with Hillary, but BY THE HILLARY CLINTON CAMPIGN.

Is this true, or is it a LIE?

GIBSON states as "fact" one: "Media Matters was founded in the offices of John Podesta." Even if TRUE, is John Podesta THE HILLARY CLINTON CAMPAIGN? No, he is not. Gibson cannot even CLAIM he is, but lamely calls him a "Hillary apparatchik". (An Apparatchik is Russion for a Communist agent or spy, or an unquestioningly loyal subordinate. Is this an apt description for Podesta? It is NOT. It is a smear with no foundation in reality.)

GIBSON states as "fact" two: "MMFA takes money from the Tides Foundation, which is a George Soros-funded operation."  Again, even if TRUE, is George Soros or Tides THE HILLARY CLINTON CAMPAIGN? No, they are NOT. And, of course, this conspiracy-theory rightwing "connection of dots" is simply FALSE. So, IF TRUE, this allegation does not prove Gibson's allegation, and the allegation is proven FALSE in any event.

It's good that Gibson welcomes the attentions of MMFA, because with such a record of being WRONG EVERY TIME, Gibson is sure to be successfully rebutted and skewered and discredited often by MMFA. And apparently, he cannot do a thing to defend himself, so he might as well learn to enjoy being humiliated frequently by MMFA.

And what is with all this double duty these talk show hosts now have? (I swear I never knew John Gibson had his own radio show?)  Does each one of them have to host some cable blabfest and then spout the same stuff on their own syndicated radio show too?  Whew, isn't an hour or so enough?

I can't imagine anyone sitting by their TV or their radio listening to these blowhards, and then flipping the off switch on one and the on switch on another, so they can hear the same crap all over again?  Now that is a person with no life.

Gibson is a man of many facets and talents, to an order which cannot be fettered within the confines of any single 1/2 hour venue.

His "T & A spectacular" television show allows him to display his telegenic physical assets and to explore the more scantily-clad side of current events, while his "morning zoo poli-talk" radio show features his considerable intellectual gifts while playing homosexual audio clips, resulting in a devastating analysis of real-life.

A true renaissance man.  I can't imagine the world so deprived, without even this meager allotment of airtime.

I'm aware of no such requirement, but the Administration seems to think there is.  Consider that the first modern Axis consisted of three nations.  When the list of evil nations was expanded, this was accomplished by adding a second list, the Beyond the Axis of Evil, again consisting of three nations.  (I expected the addition of a third Axis to make the Axis of Axes, but world events intervened.)

Subsequently, two were removed (Iraq and Libya) and the remaining four nations combined into a single list.  This explains why Bush is eager to attack Iran, i.e., so that the list will consist of the requisite three nations for an Axis.  However, in a unprecedented case of the Administration developing a backup plan, they have been assessing whether sufficiently antagonistic relationships with Venezuela and Russia can be effected in order to return to two lists of three.

      Dear Mr. Gibson,

It seems to me that fightin' words about elbowing MMFA is a prelude to an all-out attack. But before you take on such a manly chore, verbally, as cowards usually behave, I suggest that you check with your intelligence team, Little Chrissy and Rangy Dick, to find out if there are actually WMD's (WORDS OF MEANLINGLESS DECEPTION) within the MMFA posting about you. I think your groupies will attest that the words spoken by you were from your mouth. The WMD search team has checked every period, comma and @ (whatever that is) and have found the truth...your exact words. I have assigned the Duke of Plame to go to the MMFA website to verify that MMFA was trying to obtain "yellow journalism" concerning you and he has reported that no YJ was found and it was a false claim.( I know that you are familiar with false claims so no explanation is needed). And if you intend to "out" the Duchess of Plame, no need, we beheaded her last year after she was Libbyed, if you know what I mean.

However, should you continue your desire to increase the pressure on MMFA, I will be required, by Princely Law, to listen to your program at least once, to verify that you are just throwing a hissy fit about being a lapdog for Mr. Murdoch. He pays well so why start a WAR ON TERRORWORDISM when you have no chance to win by lying. Because this website never forgets.

      Your in Honesty,

      The Prince of Wheels

It is difficult to sue for libel in the US.  The burden is placed on the person who was libeled from what I understand to prove that the allegedly libelous claim is not true.

It is much easier to sue in England where the burden is placed on the person making the allegedly libelous claim.

That can't be a toupee.Gibson would have his own lawsuit going if it were. Whoever sold him the 60s Doo-W*p County Fair reunion band meets Televangelist, titanium colored wind-tunnel head fairing wouldn't stand a chance.

I'm very excited about finding out what the heck "on notice" means to this geezer.Stop quoting me or I'll swing my elbows around?

A-ha! I couldn't figure out why my post was being blocked for profanity when the harshest word was "hell".

Apparently, a type of harmonizing vocal group music  contains an anti-Italian slur.I'll refer to it as "Do- Italian/American" music in the future.

And if we're not allowing people to post derogatory remarks about Italians, why is "bogtrotter" allowed.

His hair reminds me of one of those black plastic vampire wigs with the widows peak that the kids used to wear at Halloween except his is platinum blond.

It's really sad to see what's happened to Gibson since he got the Fox lobotomy. He was a decent reported in the mid-90s when he was on NBC doing the OJ trial stuff.

Obviously, someone told h im he needed to be the second coming of Bill O'Reilly.

And one of that idiot is one too many.

I've always wondered about suing Fox for libel and outright lies as well. I realize that it takes a great deal of money to mount a suit like that, and perhaps they have better things to do with their money.

Even if they won, Fox would stall paying the damages for years. But still it would nice to see them eat their words on a weekly if not daily basis.

The man is an abject failure. Who really gives a rats rear who he puts on notice. Anyone remember when he was trying to hawk that miserable book of his some time ago and was visibly aggravated on air about how terrible it was doing. He probably lays awake at night wondering why he can't be as succesful as O'Reilly or Olbermann. At least he can eat corn through a picket fence with those front teeth, he's got that going for him.

Maybe Gibson could invite John Stewart to appear on his show, and Stewart could ask him to please stop because he is hurting America...and his show(s) would go away.

Or an alternative:  in the '50s, we little kids would watch Mary Martin in Peter Pan on t.v.  At one point, she would ask us all to help Tinker Bell get well by clapping our hands.  Every little kid in America would clap with fervent faith that we were helping her, and by golly, her little light would be restored.  So we'll all clap (and holler) to heal our sick airwaves. :)

I would love to see FOX start getting dragged into court, sued for their lies. Sure, different sides of the political spectrum will run each other down. But when you make stuff up about your opponents as FOX commentators often do it's called libel. If the legal system doesn't work to protect us from these people, the Bush years may someday be looked back on as a time of enviable peace and freedom.

When is MediaMatters going to start suing for libel and slander.Gibson communicated a falsehood and refuses to detract. Your mission is to correct errors in news and media.

He has harmed your reputation as an impartial agency by slandering and libeling you. Sue Gibson already.

It's a trap. The Fox News media hacks like Gibson, O'Reilly and Hannity are inciting Media Matters intentially so they can find out the funding source of Media Matters. Once they know who is funding Media Matters, these hacks will expose and go after the funders in public. I guarantee that.

Don't sue in court, otherwise the documents become public, and Fox News will use these documents against Media Matters.

Fox News Channel liberals are looking out for you.

Yes, I hate it when politics tries to affect legitimate news reporting. Oh, did I miss the part where gibbie admits that he works for a "news" company run by a guy who was Nixon's and Reagan's media consultant?
