CNN Headline News aired Beck program with Graham's "whack" the Clintons comment four times in two days

June 25, 2007 2:47 pm ET

On June 22, CNN Headline News re-aired the June 20 edition of the network's Glenn Beck program, which featured conservative talk radio show host Michael Graham discussing Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's (NY) campaign video that parodies the series finale of HBO's The Sopranos. As Media Matters for America documented, Graham asked Beck, "[S]eriously, Glenn, didn't you at some point want to see, like, Paulie Walnuts [a character on The Sopranos], somebody come in here and just whack them both right there?" Beck, while smiling, replied that he "did not want to see that."

CNN Headline News aired the same version of the June 20 show -- including Graham's remark about wanting to see someone "just whack" the Clintons in the video -- at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. ET on June 20 and at midnight ET on June 21. The encore presentation on June 22, a Friday, was the fourth time the show aired in two days. Although CNN Headline News typically airs reruns of Beck's 7 p.m. show at 9 p.m. on the same day and again at midnight, there does not appear to be a pattern for Friday broadcasts, which are sometimes new and other times repeats of previous shows.

I'm curious to see if we can get through this posting without the "Why is this here" questions.  Yes, it's more-or-less a repeat, and as such doesn't deserve discussion of the "whacking," but rather of the "why did they play this particular episode so much."

Probably Controversy hoping to equal Rating$ Dollar$

Oh, absolutely! Do you think there is any other reason that any privately owned broadcast company is in business? $$$ is what everyone is in business for. Oh, I'm sure there are the few that 'do it for the fun', but the fun doesn't pay rent.

Well then what point is MMFA attempting to make here?

MMFA writes that that there's no pattern for Friday broadcasts.

So what is MMFA implying here? That this time it was deliberate? Proof please.

Jeter, my only issue is that comment was not smart, and CNN as a reputable newssource should have taken the lead , told Beck those comments are unacceptable and that episode will not be allowed to air on its network again. They did not do that.

As far as Tommy, I miss him.  I hope he is ok. Maybe he is on vacation, it is summer .

Fair point Doris. I'm wondering just how much attention CNN pays to what exactly Beck is doing [they should of course--but do they?]. Perhaps if CNN received complaints about that particular program they wouldn't have re-aired it?

PS I also agree their remarks were uncalled for & did so last week on the other Beck thread [just thought I'd better mention that before someone says I didn't mention it LOL]

          Jeter2,

I have already explained it to you before that I use the generalization in the same manner that the top paid talking heads do. You know who I'm talking about, O'Reilly, Hannity, Rush, Coulter, etc. You knew that I am fighting fire with fire.

But leaving the fact out that I'm fighting fire with fire in order to give your spin the false sense of credibility and of course that little added extra of your name calling is so Conservative of you.

But don't fell so alone Jeter2, Hannity, O'Reilly, Rush and Coulter are notorious for leaving out facts to give their little spin that appearance of credibility. It is so Conservative of them as well.

            Harlequin,

I don't believe any of the Conservatives that post here are top paid talking heads.

We are just ordinary folks like the Dem/Libs that post here.

Lumping ALL Conservatives into one category is simply inaccurate.

Use whatever rationale you'd like, but be assured I will continue to point out that not ALL Conservatives are as you describe.

You, for instance are a Moonbat. Most of the other Dem/Libs here are not. See how it works?

J2, to be fair, I don't see anything written by Harlequin that renders him being called "far left" or extreme. You might be able to pin that on someone like Redking who is super green to the point of being rather black/white in thinking and sounds very authoritarian. Same as cons who are the same way, and there seem to be a lot more of them than the inverse. Sure, you may be irritated with Harlequin, but I haven't seen anything to qualify him/her as extreme. Just sayin'.

                Julia,

Harlequin sees the world and people through a very narrow minded perspective. I consider some of his ranting quite extreme, especially when he declares [as he did on another thread] that 'Conservatives are racists'...meaning ALL Conservatives. That of course is inaccurate.

Sorry but I still consider him a Moonbat.

As Rino says Liberals hate marriage and families. Touche. But I'll keep my opinion.

Is is just me?  Or does this site skew the news just as much as the media it is attempting to watchdog?  This article is much less offensive than the ones that attack our President.  And what did Beck do wrong?  Smile? I don't get it.

Our president is a liar and a fool who deserves a whole lot more criticism than he gets.
