Tucker Carlson thinks Obama "sounds like a pothead"

Dear Friend,

Tucker Carlson has a long history of using his MSNBC show, Tucker, to lob smears against progressive presidential candidates. But in recent months, he has directed a truly bizarre level of personal vitriol toward Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL).

Whether he's trashing Sen. Obama as "sound[ing] like a pothead" or "seem[ing] like kind of a wuss," one thing is clear: Tucker Carlson has abused his position as a media personality to personally attack Barack Obama.

Carlson may have a problem with Sen. Obama, but we all know that the real problem is with Tucker Carlson and his propensity for peddling smears and misinformation about progressives. My friend, the time has come to take a stand.

Today, I am asking you to contact MSNBC and Tucker Carlson and demand that they stop the smears on Sen. Obama.

Here are just a few examples of the puerile and ridiculous attacks that Tucker Carlson has directed at Sen. Obama over the past few months:

  • On the July 10 edition of Tucker, Carlson described Sen. Obama's "rhetoric" as "kind of wimpy." (read more ...)
  • While discussing Sen. Obama's speech in Fairfield, Iowa, on the July 6 edition of Tucker, Carlson asked: "How high is this guy? It's like, what is he -- he always talks between bong hits?" Carlson added: "Well, he sounds like a pothead to me." (read more ... )
  • On the July 2 edition of Tucker, Carlson said of Sen. Obama, "He seems like kind of a wuss." (read more ... )
  • During the "Obameter" segment on the February 7 edition of Tucker, Carlson criticized Sen. Obama's church, the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, and religious beliefs, stating, "[T]his stuff sounds separatist to me" and it "contradicts the basic tenets of Christianity." Carlson also claimed that the church's theology is "racially exclusive" and "wrong," adding that "it's hard to call that Christianity." (read more ... )

We all know that Carlson dropped the ball on responsible journalism a long time ago. But his bizarre obsession with Sen. Obama has reached a new low, even for Tucker.

There is simply no place for these juvenile attacks to be broadcast every evening on America's cable news channels. As Americans, we have a right to both expect and demand more from our news outlets. The public deserves a productive debate about ideas and policies, not program after program of Tucker filled with relentless personal attacks, smears, and falsehoods.

That is why I'm urging you today to contact MSNBC and Tucker Carlson and tell them the smears must stop.

As always, thank you for your support. Please make sure to contact MSNBC and Tucker today!

Sincerely,

David Brock

I wonder if MMFA favorite Olbermann will name Tucker "Worst Person in the World"?  Nah , he works for MSNBC so he will ignore that but when he leaves MSNBC he will backstab him like he did Imus. This letter to friends is a joke. I love this part

But calling someone "Worst Person in the World" and countless stories on  "Bill O" and "Ann Coultergeist" is not juvenile?

California Governor Arnold S. got it right: Rush Limbaugh (or fill in your favorite right wing talker, from your local AM radio GOP talking point to cable media personalities like Tucker Carlson -- many thanks, Media Matters, for NOT calling him a journalist) is IRRELEVANT. The less time we spend listening to their desperate defense of a thoroughly bankrupt ideology, the better off we will be. Isn't Tucker the perfect media representative of the George W. Bush Era, in which ignorance, mendacity and privilege trump competence, integrity, and accountability?

sueeld, Oh I get it -- Olbermann is immature because he points out how O'rielly, Limbaugh, Savage etc. lie and you find his criticism comprable to the foolishness of Tucker calling Obama a weed smoker? Wow, your brain makes some interesting leaps. Keith criticises media pundits' untruthful words and that equals the sillyness of Tuckers school boy tactics: making up stories about Obama smoking reefer...... Wow, you need help on your analysis skills. Good luck.

Perhaps we also need to start Campaigning these Advertisers. Hmmm! I wonder what 100K in emails to the Public Relations Departments & Local media outlets of these Advertisers would do. Has it been done on an issue by issue basis?

Well there you have it. We've already established that since he was once a Young African American Man, he must have been some kind of criminal or revolutionary, and since he was raised abroad and his middle name is Osama or something, he must have been brainwashed by Jihadists. Now we learn that since he was once a Young Black Man Attending College, he's bound to be a POT HEAD!You think I should switch my allegiance on that account? I mean, Kucinich is right about everything but he's so boring and he reminds me of that college professor who gave me a "C" when I deserved an "A". I'm not exactly sure how this even smells of racism. I feel your reaction is either a kneejerk one--or simply a dishonest one. Not every criticism of an African American (be it serious or sophomoric) can be traced to being race specific.

I mean, Tucker Carlson is sort of a silly target for MMFA being that he's is probably one of the least watched and least self-righteous of conservative commentators out there. There are bigger targets making far more serious, slanderous comments about Democrats. But if we are to ignore all of that for a moment, Senator Obama has, on a number of occasions referenced his own past drug use. No, that doesn't make him a pothead today (it doesn't even make him a pothead then), but it does add perspective to the pothead comment. Further perspective could be found by anyone holding the semi-precious commodity known in some circles as a sense of humor.

In the end, it's quite clear to anyone with half a sense of humor that the several points cited in Mr. Brock's letter are not dangerous and incidious personal smears, but are instead sort of banal attempts at humor at a third party's expense: i.e. jokes.

Sure, they're not funny jokes, but they're not all that hurtful, either.

As I suspected, not impressive. Not completely sold on the source or the weight of the accusations. A lie in my view would be something like Valerie Plame was not covert, or that Joe Wilson claimed Dick Cheney sent him to Niger. Or any host of other popular myths perpetuated by the right wing press.

So much for liberal media bias. I see Olberman as being liberal because he has the integrity to call his peers on their misinformation and lies as well as directing his ire towards Bush and his enablers.

And I see Tucker, Hannity, Hume, O'Reilly, Scarborough, who has occasional moments of clarity but is really a conservative. Let's see who else, Beck, Dobbs, and their rotating cast of guests like Dick Morris, Ann Coulter, Charles Krauthammer and Bill Kristol.

Where are the liberals? Colmes is too polite to be effective. Olberman is it. I'll forgive him if he gets a story about a Drudge Report wrong assuming he did. But your source is simply not credible and should be dismissed. I do.

Would they lie to you? Has Plame or Wilson EVER lied? And yes Cheney has lied many, many times. Shallow, very shallow.

The CIA did Tweaker. And you can read the NYTimes opinion piece that Wilson wrote you'd see he never made the claim that Dick Cheney sent him.

My sources, the actual op-ed piece mentioned above press releases from the CIA, Patrick Fitzgerald and the Justice Department, sworn testimony before Congress including a statement approved by the head of the CIA General Hadley that confirmed that Valerie Plame was covert at the time of her outing and in fact had traveled over seas in that capacity within five years of Robert Novak's column.

In short I went to the sources of information and not the spinners in the press. Please disprove any one of my claims here. I'm pretty confident you can't. You can smear the players but that doesn't change the facts. The CIA asked the Justice Department to look into their covert agent and Bush loyalist John Aschroft had no choice but to investigate. Facts, not opinions chief. If you doubt them, that's your prerogative. I think it's you who doesn't want to believe the hard facts.

It's an odd thing that one feels they have to search for a partisan to find truth. The truth is that Olbermann is no better than O'Reilly or any of the other conservative commentators. They both pander to an audience of individuals most of whom are so entirely blinded their own bias that they fail to see how they're being manipulated by a business that's main concern is to ensure they watch the advertisments that regularly interrupt the programming the companies pretend to care about. And I don't mean this to be an anti-capitalist/anti-corporate rant or anything. I just mean to say that commercial television operates from the perspective where they'll say whatever they think their portion of the audience wants to hear. Olbermann has found a relatively small but growing audience of liberal/'progressive' -types who've (at least from 8-9pm) chosen to reject the actually informative programming of National Public Radio and PBS in favor of the patronizing shenanigans of a glorified sports reporter.

He is a decent enough beacon of light and you are right about one thing, that KO isn't correct all the time.

The number one lie claims that KO said that John Gibson said that massacres were alright. KO may have been sloppy in his reporting he did not say that. He made a clearly sarcastic comment. To infer what the author of the KO infatuation web site was claiming is a serious stretch. They would be wise to spend a little more time here and researching the lies of the right wing thugs.

Not sure if this counts but here it is anyway.  In 1995 when Cal Ripken Jr. was on the eve of breaking Lou Gehrig's consecutive games record, Olbermann was leading the charge of pundits that were of the opinion that Ripken should tie or stop short of the record so Gehrig's record would live on.

Keith did an op/ed on the NBC nightly news just a couple of days ago on Barry Bonds chasing Hank Aaron's HR record.  He compared both chases and even mentioned that "some" were calling for Ripken to stop short, but he never told the audience that it was "HE" who was the most vocal on this.

I know it's not an out and out whopper, but Keith tends to stretch the truth sometimes.

Would somebody at MSNBC pay attention to more than ratings and look and listen to Tucker Carlson.  He is a henchman for the Republican party, which is actually nothing new on cable TV.  But he is also a living, breathing personification of a screed.  Anything or anyone Democratic/progressive, like Barack Obama, is worthy of high pitched, voice-cracking adolescent tantrum.  He bleats his attack, his implicit smearing by asking rhetorical questions that are in themselves indictments without substantiation, as though he simply has to find something obnoxious to say about Democrats or the left, akin to squealing "Isn't it true that they have sex with gekkos? I mean, isn't it true?  It is, isn't it?"Tucker's attacks on Obama are right in line with his lock-step, general Republican Talking Points.  Nothing subtle about Carlson. You know where he stands but you don't want to step on his opinions because they're so hard to get off your shoe.  He's less virulent than Ann Coulter, but that's damning with faint praise.  I used to think he was wise and informed and clever.  Now I just think he's a pimple-voiced bore.  He makes O'Reilly look smart and that's a feat-and-a-half.Stuart Fischoff

Look, we all know that Tucker is a waterboy for the Republican Party. But, it's a free country and if NBC doesn't mind his shrill style and overt hypocrisy, why should we care? He proclaims his "principled" positions, then in his zeal to disseminate the party line, is forced to make an argument which contradicts his stated position and only serves to make him look small and clownish. I say let him become the poster boy for the unraveling of the conservative movement. If this is what the intellectual right has come to, then I say "go Tucker"!  Having said all that, I have one word that best describes the guy: "weenie".

You are talking about people that believe the world is 6,000 or so years old.

"Frankly he's a snotty white boy who gets on my nerves, but this made me hit the ceiling because what he's doing is flat out wrong and racist."

Yep apologies i didnt get who penned the above, but it hit me as so so accurate.

That boy is a racists little SNOT.  Everytime I see him on TV i just want to smack him or at least knock some sense into him.

I have mixed grandchildren who I hope will be coming up into a better world than we have now, and so many in the media are not helping the situation.

It is time for all of the media outlets to grow up and forget about ratings, just report the facts because "frankly",  we the people, don't give a good damn about snotty nosed brats' opinion.  "Frankly", we the people, are probably all a lot smarter than you corporate heads think we are.  "Frankly" if we could just get some facts from the so called "news" stations we can make our own decisions without their hate filled or agenda ridden opinions

This is but one more example of unethical, shoddy practices that have given journalism a big black eye. There is no excuse for this idiot to be influencing people's opinions about anything; but, then, there isn't any excuse for people to allow themselves to be influenced by idiots, either.  Both Carlton and his audience are beyond contempt.

No matter what anyone else says, his attack tonight on his guest's sex life was truly the lowest point of his storied "career." Why anyone would ever appear on his show again is an utter mystery to me. He should be utterly blacklisted by any and all progressive spokespeople.

I wish that Carlson would invite John Stewart on his show, to prove he has a sense of humor.  Then history could repeat itself and he would go off the air.  Oh, please....

So the pothead comment was sort of over the line, though it was made in an attempt at humor.  The rest of Tucker's comments I actually thing are pretty routine political jargon, nothing out of the ordinary. I think Brock is carrying a grudge ever since Carlson insulted him on the air several months ago.

      Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing today to express my sincere disappointment in MSNBC's continued encouragement of the coarsening of political dialog through its support and airing of shows like "Tucker," hosted by Tucker Carlson.

Many of us familiar with Carlson's fact-free opinions during his tenure at CNN were very surprised to see MSNBC offer Carlson his own hosted program, although I can say that I am not surprised by his behavior since he has become a host for MSNBC.  What does surprise me is that MSNBC, which is purportedly one of the major News networks and not an equivalent of E! Entertainment, is allowing this drivel to continue unchecked on its network.

So far this year (and occurring with increasing frequency), Carlson has directly called Obama "wimpy" and a "wuss," accused him of marijuana use, suggested Obama was trying to start riots, and questioned the validity of Obama's Christianity.  In addition to this, and without any basis in fact, he insinuated underhanded dealings by saying Rezko had purchased Obama's home.  One has to begin to wonder at which point a News service like MSNBC begins to question whether or not their programming is actually serving News, instead of juvenile tripe, misinformation, and outright lies.

I am not alone in saying that in a world where our enemies are ever-increasing outside of our borders, I am sick and tired of men like Tucker Carlson as well as women like Ann Coulter whose sole basis of fame and only reason for being on television is their ability to divide us within our own borders into neat little groups of "conservatives and liberals."  We are a country at war, we are a country that is sinking like an anchor into a sea of indebtedness to rapidly growing global powers, and MSNBC is directly encouraging a flailing helplessness of the populace by continually giving air time to solutionless, infantile, immature and divisive commentators like Tucker Carlson.  I understand the sponsorship appeal of controversy, and I understand MSNBC's desire to balance opinions on the News with conflicting viewpoints - after all, many right-leaning political fellows believe Keith Olberman is a troublemaker - but to milk the controversy for all its worth without providing a hint of substance is completely irresponsible, and is something that MSNBC should carefully consider.  What kind of value are you offering your viewers by offering this level of discussion?

Thank you for your time, and I sincerely hope you consider your message in the future.

Whatever Tucker Carlson says should not be taken seriously. The crazy things he says (and there are many of them) are so bizarre and delusional, that he is the one that looks, speaks and acts worse than a 'pothead' (e.g. his belief that global warming is not caused by humans--definitely delusional). His mind is so warped I think he must have been dabbling in some serious mind altering drugs now or at some other time in his life.  I feel sorry for his kids for having such a loony father.

Other than c-span andc-span2, MSNBC(Olbermann) and Comedy Central(Jon Stewart) are the most knowlegible sources of reliable news. Even CNN has become infiltered. I also must mention BBC. I can still glean some truth from them. I also rely on Air America and several websites and newspapers to compare information. FOX "News" is basically propaganda. This is where Tucker's niche is.

I have been emailing MSNBC for several weeks about this jackleg Tucker. I read that his father is the head of the Libby Defense Fund, yet he makes no "full disclosure" of that fact when he defends the criminal Scooter. He needs to go to FOX to tell his lies.

Turn off the image of the beast, your TVs, and what any of these people have to say won't matter one bit.

We can make a better world without politicians and governments.  Get on with your lives and ignore them.  Evil self-destructs.  Their day is coming, all of them.

We will clean up the mess they've made, but we need to stop name calling and labeling and stereotyping.  That is what they do and it is to keep the populace at odds with one another while they continue to commit their crimes, and their slaves in the MSM work to keep that divisiveness going.  They want us, whatever side you think you belong to, to continue bickering with each other so that we will be impotent to do anything about them by making real changes in our society and in the world.  We bicker and argue, we help keep them in power, and the cycle of misery continues.

All Of MSNBC Has A Problem With Barack Obama

After the first Democratic debate, MSNBC conducted a poll asking a broad range of question relating to who won the debate. As usual, MSNBC had their spinners giving their opinion as to won the the debate. They all said Hillary Clinton won "hand down."

Not giving the spin machine much thought, I found myself going along with the assertion Clinton won the debate until I scene the MSNBC's own poll results. As it stands, Barack Obama won in every category. You would think the special commentary body spinning the debate would want to know how the debate came out. At the very end of the broadcast, Chris Matthews gave a brief mention Obama won the debate they conducted. This took all of two, and I mean two, seconds.

Although the poll was not scientific, it mattered to include the result in their speculation process. Tucker Carlson is not the only one with a "thing" for Barack Obama and withholding these poll result is prove of that indifference.

I am certain that tucker carlson has hit the nail on the head obama is a wishy washy kinda guy. Lets face it he came on Imus in The Morning to further his chances of becoming our President, then when the whole nasty crowd like Mr. Sharpton and Mr. Jackson ..they are not rev's in my vocabulary showed up he immediately flipped .. I lost all respect for him...Keep it up Tucker ...but then you were not on Mr. Don Imus's side on this either... so I suppose it does not matter to me... because I am one of the many who have stopped watching MSNBC.... and tanked the rating because of the way they treated an Icon, like Mr. Imus... I hope the whole network goes under... and I also will be glad when Imus wins the lawsuit against CBS.... another station I refuse to watch or listen to... I have also stopped buying any sponsors products... hope they feel the crunch too... still a huge fan of Iman... and the gang... MSNBC.. really messed up big time.. and I am happy to see bussiness is continuing as usual...
