Hannity & Colmes used cucumber, condom to misrepresent Obama's stance on sex ed
The July 20 edition of Fox News' Hannity & Colmes, previewing a discussion of comments Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) made July 17 in support of age-appropriate sex education, aired video footage of a woman applying a condom to a cucumber as co-host Sean Hannity asked, "Later, what is it that Barack Obama was thinking when he said he supported sex ed for kindergartners?" But the Obama campaign has made clear what he meant. Obama campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki reportedly told David Brody of the Christian Broadcasting Network: "Barack Obama supports sensible, community-driven education for children because, among other things, he believes it could help protect them from pedophiles. A child's knowledge of the difference between appropriate and inappropriate touching is crucial to keeping them safe from predators." Explaining his views in 2004, as Media Matters for America noted, Obama reportedly said, "Nobody's suggesting that kindergartners are going to be getting information about sex in the way that we think about it," but rather that kindergartners should be taught about "inappropriate touching" and that "[i]f they ask a teacher 'where do babies come from,' that providing information that the fact is that it's not a stork is probably not an unhealthy thing." Later, co-host Alan Colmes said that "Barack Obama never said that we should teach in kindergarten things like condoms," but the program again showed the footage of a woman applying a condom to a cucumber just prior to Colmes' statement.
During a second preview of the segment, Fox News showed footage of a woman unwrapping a condom as Colmes said, "Still ahead tonight, Barack Obama's critics think this is what the senator has in mind when he talks about sex education in our schools for youngsters." A third preview showed footage of Obama, while co-host Sean Hannity said, "Coming up next, Barack Obama clamors for age-appropriate sex education in our schools, but isn't teaching America's kindergartners about the birds and the bees anything but appropriate?"
From the July 20 edition of Fox News' Hannity & Colmes:
HANNITY: Later, what is it that Barack Obama was thinking when he said he supported sex ed for kindergartners? We'll update that situation straight ahead.
[...]
COLMES: And still ahead tonight, Barack Obama's critics think this is what the senator has in mind when he talks about sex education --
HANNITY: Oh --
COLMES: -- in our schools for youngsters. We're going to debate, though, the growing sex-ed contro -- because you know that's really not what it is. Later is the CIA at war with itself? Coming up.
[...]
HANNITY: Coming up next: Barack Obama clamors for age-appropriate sex education in our schools, but isn't teaching America's kindergartners about the birds and the bees anything but appropriate?
[...]
COLMES: Well, conservatives continue to blast Barack Obama for his stance on teaching age-appropriate sex ed to kindergartners. Is that what he really said, though? The question being raised by many is what, exactly is age appropriate? Should kids learn about safe sex and condoms, or is the abstinence the only lesson that should be taught?
Joining us now, radio talk show's Janet Parshall and sex expert and Penthouse sex columnist Dr. Victoria Zdrok. And Janet, let me start by pointing out that Barack Obama never said we should teach in kindergarten things like condoms and -- what he said exactly is we should send -- it should be -- it should be age-appropriate. It should be scientifically based. Nobody is suggesting, he said, that kindergartners are going to be getting information about sex in the way we think about it. So let's be clear what Barack Obama said in the first place.

Now this is one tease/preview that is unconscionable, even for Fox News. If Alan Colmes had any program control whatsoever instead of a being Sean's whipping post, he would have nixed this promo from the get go. Pitiful.
Yeah, not only that but they insulted about 85% if the adult male population. I mean, who here besides me is as big as a cucumber? ;)
No conservatives.....
Snoop,
Maybe you should be more specific about the *variety* cucumber...
Or I'll have to figure you might resemble one of these:
pickling cucumbers tend to be shorter, thicker, less regularly-shaped, and have bumpy skin with tiny white- or black-dotted spines
Mediterranean cucumbers are small, smooth-skinned and mild.
;-)
How about "that one right there in the picture"?
To me the picture shows a "pickling" cuce...but then again Trolls have disproportional body parts, as I can attest. As I look down through the big end of some very nice binoculars.
This "footage" obviously came from Hannity's personal library. Who knew he would have an opportunity to air it nationally when lying about Obama's policy positions? It's called "serendipity", and Hannity couldn't be happier.
He may have borrowed the footage from Bill O'Reilly's personal library...
:-)
WZ:
Actually, it's more likely the props came from O'Reilly's personal PANTRY.
Right next to the falafel he talked about giving his producer a shower with....
Alex Baldwin in Married to the Mob.
The above is a response to Snoop's "who beside me" query.
Dirk Diggler in "Boogie Nights"?
:-)
It's really a shame for Obama, because the way Fox News and it's viewers treat the news, he isn't shaking this story anytime soon. Fox (at least when Democrats are concerned) is virtually ambivalent to the truth. Don't expect a retraction or correction from these guys. And since most Fox News viewers get their news exclusively from Fox, this story will persist with these viewers, uncorrected, probably forever.
It's amazing the raw deal Democrats get from Fox. And yet when they decline to go on Fox, they're ridiculed for being spineless cowards. Can you blame them? Obama was advocating programs to help fight pedophila, but what gets reported? Essentially: "Barack Obama wants to teach kindergarteners how to F$%#!!!" Unreal.
It's shades of Al Gore and his internet all over again. Damn that "liberal media bias."
I would venture to say that any person, or least voter, who gets their news exclusively, as you say, from Fox News, is most likely not even considering casting their ballot for Obama in any sceanrio.
So the damage, accepting your exclusivity claim, is minimal at best.
While my claim of exclusivity was admittedly by observation, these viewers certainly exist, and it doesn't mean the story stops with them. These Foxbots can easliy spread their misinformation to the general public via word of mouth. That way people who may be considering Obama as a candidate (and are not as skeptical of our media as you or I) may think twice upon hearing that Obama wants to teach 5 year olds to have sex.
I doubt that all the complaints and death threats lodged at that school superintendent over Fox's bogus "Ham Sandwich" story originated exclusively Fox News viewers.
Make no mistake, Colmes is as much of a sleazebag as Hannity. Pretending to be the 'balance' on this show is just part of the propaganda. Witness how he says that no one is implying Obama wants condom education for kindergartners. It's the biggest single lie of the segment. His own show is clearly implying this very notion. People really need to start dragging these dirt-bags into court for libel if for no other reason than to expose their methods and their mission. Just laughing them off and claiming that everyone knows what Fox is up to ignores the influence they have on the public. My take on it is that they help allow people to maintain a position of ignorance. It's no mistake that a shamefully high percentage of people still believe the old lie that Saddam was behind 9-11. It's also no mistake that polls show regular Fox viewers to be more often misinformed about what is going on in the world and that their ignorance helps them support right-wing causes. It's time for society in general and not just Media Matters to go after these sleazebags and expose their fundamental lie. 'Fair and Balanced.' It's only funny if you're not trying to discuss current events with a Fox viewer.
Ha, This week they will have to out do themselves and show a living room full of house wifes practicing/learning fellatio, while Shammity asks; "What is age appropriate sex education for infants?"
When does that air?
It already did - "Real Sex" on HBO.
Yep, with bananas. But, now that you have let the cat out of the bag, Hannity will have it on tonight with the caption "Obama wants to teach your kids about sex, fellatio, fisting and sodomy"
Now Obama is "Clamoring" to "teach Americ'a Kindergartners about the birds and the bees"? Is this what they mean by "Fair and Balanced"?
Obama doesn't seem to have a problem with telling five year olds where babies come from:
"[i]f they ask a teacher 'where do babies come from,' that providing information that the fact is that it's not a stork is probably not an unhealthy thing"
Pray tell, RINO... which stork did you come from?
Another in a series of examples of how nothing seen or heard on Fox News can be taken at face value.
Fox News: placing a condom over the facts-making all news safe news for Republicans.
This is just another excuse for Faux News to tittillate. Usually they'll have a business report about Victoria Secret, while running a loop of footage from their lingerie runway show.
Exactamundo.
This clip from The Daily Show is still one of my favorites.
I love how theyknow full well that that is not what Obama meant, but decided to go ahead a blur the message anyway, knowing that most of their vveiwers will only see it the way they want to anyway. Facts be damned.
COMING SOON TO THE FOX NEWS NETWORK.....Sexual Education for All Americans due to the spread of VD....and that is nothing to CLAP about.
Why is Fox and their sheep so obssessed with everyone else's sex? Not getting enough at home? Where are the "good" Christians?
P.S. Mr. Hannity, try reading someone's quote once in a while..where do you get your info, from Fox News?
For me, it isn't even about Hannity's expected partisanship and spin control toward everything Republican good, and everything Democratic, bad......who isn't aware of his bias?
It's more about the impotent Alan Colmes and how he rarely, if ever, offers a strong counterpoint to Sean's condescending manner. A lively partisan debate may be watchable, even enjoyable if Colmes held his own instead of acting like he's apologizing for his meekly voiced opinions. This is the reason this show is so annoying, and off my shopping list.
It's more about the impotent Alan Colmes and how he rarely, if ever, offers a strong counterpoint to Sean's condescending manner.
I agree with your statement. If one looks at the items on MMFA tagged with Alan Colmes, they are almost all because he has done something potent and confrontive. Amazing that it's an item of interest when he does speak up. That's his job! At least, that's the premise of the show: Right vs Left or something like that.
Well, that is the exact reason Roger Ailes chose Colmes for the job. He wanted an ugly, lightweight liberal to be paired with his pretty boy staunch right-winger Hannity. They chose Colmes because he was a wimpy, self-described moderate, and a bad comedian. They knew he would never be too vocal, or win a serious debate.
See? They DON'T work!
I think Sean and FOX NEWS should be congratulated for trying to educate America about the failure of condoms to stop the population explosion of cucumbers.
I mean, they're everywhere! There are cucumbers by the millions at farmers markets and grocery stores. And pickles! Have you walked down the pickle and pickle relish aisle lately?
No matter how good the condoms are and no matter how careful you are, condoms are just a complete and utter failure when it comes to putting the brakes on cucumber procreation.
I'm going to relish seeing hannity spin himself out of that pickle!
Funny---no matter how you slice it.
The man is clearly out his gourd.
You've punted into the wrong garden and must be squashed.
Note the following is reported in the style of Fox:
First commentator: While doing the show some say that Hannity's breasts got hard intsead of his penis.
Second commentator: There is seriously something wrong with Sean.
First commentator: It's been said that Hannity is a fan of Charles Krauthammer.
Second commentator: Maybe that explains why Hannity is a little bit warped.
First commentator: Yeah who in there sick minds could twist what Obama said into something like cucumbers and condoms.
Second commentator: That's Conservatives for you.
well, at least millions of young ladies will now be discussing, "The Resevoir Tip" , and why it is essential to condom installing. "What did you say? It's for WHAT?"
But can condoms protect us from the threat of GMO cucumbers?
What about seedless cucumbers? If a cucumber can't reproduce naturally, is it gay? If fox news is promoting cucumbers using condoms, doesn't that make them complicit in promoting gay cucumber sex (GCS)?
Absolutely!
Rino said in a previous post that God gave man parts to go with a woman parts. If you have the same parts you must be gay. I'll be taking my gay cucumbers to Pastor Ted's therapist for a cure. ;)
Nothing can protect you from the Great Garnishee.
Wow this was hilarious. They actually showed this footage? Honestly how dumb can Hannity be not to understand Obama's point...which if I may add is a really good one. We should teach our children the difference between appropiate and inappropriate touching...just because it makes a few nut jobs squeemish doesn't make it wrong...
You know, if it makes a few nutjobs squeamish, it's absolutely the right thing to do.
Robot, you are correct...
Unfortunately many of those nut jobs(O'Reilly, Hannity, Gibson) have high paying jobs at the number one Cable "News" outlet...Only in America...
Right now the right is probably screaming "how dare obama tell my kids what I can and can't do to them!"
LMAO!
That is so gross...I just hope your not right...
Does Fox show TV Parental Guidelines at the beginning of its shows? I think Hannity and Colmes should have a TV-MA listing for crude, indecent language (L), explicit sexual activity (S); and unforgivable dishonesty (D).
LSD what can that possibly stand for lol... Seriously though I think FNC has had way too many bong hits....I mean just look at how they cover the news...lol
A day that will live in infamy, July 23rd, 2007.
The first day that a picture of a sleeved vegetable made the page 1 of MMFA.
:)
lol Tommy
I am marking this day on my calendar. I declare this a federal holiday!
It should at least be that for cucumbers.......it's their day in the sun.
Yeah I guess your right..Tommy
LOL this thread is getting wierder every second. In remebrence of the valiant work cucumbers have done( as food, and apparently as condom demonstrators) I still think we should declare National Cucumber Day...maybe even build a museum for the poor things...
Will all cucumbers given their due credit? I mean, aren't seedless cucumbers the gay ones? Will they have an equal place in the museum, or will the right deny them any mention of their contributions to history?
Good question... Lets get some Fair and Balanced analysis from our friends Ann Coulter, James Dobson, and Rush Limbaugh...
Let's not forget the seedless English cukes!
I don't have anything personal against the seedless, I just don't think they should try to ram their alternative lifestyle down my throat by assaulting traditional cucumber marriage.
What's next cucumber on dog sex?
What's to stop a cucumber from thinking it could marry several cucumbers?
It's a slippery slope.
Is a seedless cucumber a fruit?
We're going to stop watching Faux News at my house. My wife saw that cucumber and her eyes glazed over. Later, when we were making love, she kept panting something about needing a creamy dressing.... ; )
Creamy sauce, nice touch, the wife is rummaging around in the refrigator as I type. Great Idea...
Hey Guys,
I showed the video to her, she never watches the news and surely not FNC.
She thought the descriptions of Snoops, and other cucumbers was funny.
Her one comment about the size of the cucumber shown in the news story was;
"Gee it must be an African cucumber"!!! ;-0
She doesn't ever remember seeing any that size in the garden! ;)
Her is the wife!
Anybody who thinks there is anything equivalent to the Fox News/Drudge/talk radio echo chamber on the progressive/liberal side of the ledger is dead wrong.
It's pure propaganda.
And now Murdoch is on the verge of buying the Wall Street Journal which will give him a national print voice for this kind of nonsense.
24/7/365 of cable and 365 days of print propaganda.
The fascists or nazis didn't do it any better.
My life will never be the same after reading these post. I laughed so hard my side is aching.
What I see in all seriousness, if I may be. Does Faux News drug test these "News Commentators". I personally think that the American People need to start Community Meetings, of everyday Americans and stop listening to these news programs. All this rediculous diversion tactics, as well as absurb stories to stick in some minds that just catch talking points here and there, We still want to know the truth about Iraq, healthcare, Global Warming...No wonder they like Bush, they are great at putting up smoke screens and confusing the heck out of everyone, When they are not trying to terrorize people with "increased chatter". Which is in their own Heads, or maybe they need to use more fixodent in their Dentures or simply put on a coat. LOL!
Everyone have a great Night!
Sean is revealing his true character to the public. He makes "Austin Powers" look like a saint (my apologies to Mike Myers).
He pretends to be a moral man, but he is not. It's all just an act. He is one sick puppy.
Just think of how ratings would have soared if they used a real penis.
Then imagine Hannity, in his own small way, for the sake of God and country, volunteering for the demonstration.
