O'Reilly named "Worst Person" runner-up for equating Daily Kos and David Duke

On the July 26 edition of MSNBC's Countdown, host Keith Olbermann named Fox News host Bill O'Reilly the "runner-up" in his nightly "Worst Person in the World" segment for, as Media Matters for America documented, asking "[w]hat is the difference between" white supremacist David Duke and the blog Daily Kos. Olbermann stated that, according to blogger Mike Stark, "the Secret Service is now investigating" comments on BillOReilly.com regarding Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY), including one -- noted by Americablog.com -- that read: "If she wins which hopefully she won't. My guns are loaded for the revolt are yours??" Olbermann went on to address O'Reilly: "So, Bill, you're complaining about hate speech on a website while the Secret Service is investigating your website for hate speech and death threats?" As Media Matters noted, O'Reilly has ignored the objectionable comments on his website while repeatedly attacking the Daily Kos in recent weeks.

On July 18, Olbermann named O'Reilly the "winner" of his "Worst Person in the World" segment for defending his earlier comparison of Daily Kos to the Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan. As Media Matters has documented (here, here, here, and here), Olbermann frequently names O'Reilly in his "Worst Person" segment.

From the July 26 edition of MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann:

OLBERMANN: Our runner-up, Bill-O, who is now losing his death match with the website the Daily Kos. The latest foot in mouth: "What's the difference between David Duke and the hate stuff that he puts on his website with his bloggers and this? What is the difference?" Well, there's no premium membership at the Daily Kos, say, like at BillOReilly.com, where a veteran member posted about Senator Clinton, quote, "If she wins which hopefully she won't. My guns are loaded for the revolt are yours??"

Blogger Mike Stark, once Bill-O's target in the "Fox security" episode, reports that the FBI was advised of that and other threats against the senator's life on Bill-O's website, and that the Secret Service is now investigating. So, Bill, you're complaining about hate speech on a website while the Secret Service is investigating your website for hate speech and death threats? Bill-O, you were a punter. Punt!

Did you guys watched O'Reilly last night? I was laughing my ass off because Jane Hall brought up the same issue that Olbermann highlighted, and in classic O'Reilly style, he turned her mic off! I hope Media Matters has a clip of that, it was too funny.

I did see that and her last statement was only her mouth moving with no sound.  Classic O'Reilly scrambling moment.

He needs to drop this little vendetta, he is appearing more foolish every day.

I don't think O'Reilly was expecting her to hit him back like that, he probably thought she would be the sycophantic commentator that he usually has on his program to stroke his ego (i.e. Michelle Malkin, Kristen Powers, Bernard Goldberg and Dennis Miller). But we have to remember that he did something similar like that to Jane Hall when she defended Bill Moyers’ documentary a few months back. (O’Reilly felt that Moyers painted him falsely as one of Bush’s bootlicking cheerleaders when we first went into war.)

I have to respectfully disagree, Tommy, that he should let this vendetta go. Watching him fumbling to explain himself and cutting commentators’ mics off is some of the best, unintentional funny moments I've see in cable news in quite some time.

Whats the difference between Oreillys show and professional wrestling?

I can't say I watch either, but when I was a kid, I did enjoy the often zany, usually wild and hopefully ostentatious rants that the "rasslers" went on.

Oreilly seems to engage in the same type of hyperbole, probably even more ridiculous.  And just like rasslin', there are a certain percentage of ppl watching that take him deadly serious.

And don't we all snicker at them?  I'd rather be bound with razor wire, and have bamboo shoots hammered into my nails, and gasoline thrown into my eyes at regular intervals while being forced to listen to William Shatners greatest hits...than watch Oreillys show for 5 minutes.

I already called Fox security BILL-O...and I told them they could STICK IT.

How can any liberal website withstand such a well-planned assault? Please, Bill, I am personally begging you: stop your organized Fox News effort to promote us to wider and wider audiences. Between you and your Fox News compatriot Bill Kristol, we can't take it anymore. How are we supposed to compete with a man whose written punditry has led to the deaths of tens of thousands? How can we sustain ourselves when attacked by a talk show host well known for his fabrication of facts and stories? Why doesn't O'Reilly just go ahead and condemn CNN for teaming up with YouTube: a site that hosts actual Nazi and white supremacist videos.  YouTube refuses to delete those messages, so by O'Reilly's logic, shouldn't its CNN be criticized to at least the same degree as JetBlue if not greater?

Probably because he can't label YouTube as a "far left outfit" yet.  If that can be even hinted at in anyway, O'Reilly would then haul them out for the scurrilous creatures they are and anybody that gets into bed with them at all is also a far left loon.

What's even funnier about that, is that Nazi's (neo Nazi types), and the KKK, and other such hate groups are more typically, or are what most would consider the extreme far right of the political spectrum. Now, if BO wants to call Kos a left wing radical group, wouldn't it be better to equate them with commies? But then again, communism was nothing but a red herring anyway.

True enough. Bill O and his "boycotts" are kind of famous for, well, not accomplishing much at all. I remember the whole Ludacris episode back in the day. Not only did it make Luda more popular, it didn't affect his core group of fans that's for sure.

On another note. Does it appear the BO is becoming more and more unhinged as time moves forward? I mean, he was always off the wall, at least in my opinion, but now he just seems to be lacking for anything, well, serious to discuss and or talk about. I mean, this latest little dig at people who comment on a website is just the latest in inane ramblings from a crazy man. Pretty soon he'll be co-hosting a show with Savage.

He does appear more unhinged, but his ratings are steady eddy, so his popularity isn't decreasing, despite his recent embarassments and his flailing inconsistencies.

I think he has found a niche in his programming and that is to highlight some fringe lunacy somewhere, and then extrapolate that into some bigger societal ill - his viewers get their "far left craziness" red meat, he appears mainstream, and he sells his dumb book and cements his ratings on Fox.  It's all very clever.

But I do believe he is also becoming more cartoonish and irrelevant at the same time.  This narrow focus of his as he goes on these vendetta tantrums may make him popular with his "crusading" viewers, but at the risk of getting more popular or increased credibility, nah.......he's losing it.

I think the seams in Bill O'Reilly's act began to rip apart beyond repair earlier this year when he accused Colonel Ann Wright, a 29-year veteran of the U.S. Army, of "turning against her country" because she refused to agree with him.  After questioning her loyalty to the United States, she asked "How many years have you served your country?" and he cut her mic.

My apologies for the redundancy, but Joe Conason has written an interesting piece at truthdig.com about this Rupert Murdoch funded smear campaign. Nothing that shudders one's foundations, just a tight, quick jab.

      [link to www.truthdig.com]

"In truth, the bloggers share the values of most Americans, who also want to end the war in Iraq, establish universal health insurance, reduce global warming, increase the minimum wage and preserve Social Security. It is the ideologues such as O’Reilly and Kristol whose opposition to those values locates them on the fringe, despite their loud megaphones and corporate backing. And what the Murdoch bullies prove whenever they try to stigmatize the citizen bloggers is just how much they fear a fair (and balanced) fight."

I love how Colbert summed it up a few nights ago. He had Jimmy put the URL on the screen so "viewers know where not to go."

Have many of you noticed that BO is looking older. Even the makeup can't hide it.

Does Keith Olbermann ever have on guests who disagree with him?

Uusually, Olbermann gives a two-minute monologue in which he attcks Bush and/or Cheney, and then has a guest on, just as Bruce Fein or Jonathan Turley. What follows goes a bit something like this:

Olbermann: So, do you agree with me that Bush is more evil than Hitler and Stalin combined.

Turley: Yes, you're absolutely correct, Keith. Excellent points.

Olbermann: That was Jonathan Turley, ladies and gentlemen, agreeing with me that Bush is more evil than Hitler and Stalin combined. In our next Countdown segment, Rep. Dennis Kucinich and I will discuss impeaching Mr. Bush.

As the old saying goes, when two people agree, one of them isn't necessary. That helps explain why O'Reilly has three times more viewers than Olbermann. Viewers want to hear both sides, and they don't get that from Olbermann.

        Uhhh... Kevin?

Allow me to point out to you the simple fact that it really is pretty hard to 'hear both sides' when your boy O'Lielly is shouting over his opponent, or ordering that their mic be cut.

        Just a thought, son.

The reason O'Falfel has so many viewers is if you want actual information there are many outlets and Olbermann is just one of them if you want pure unadulterated nonsense, propaganda and lies FOX is where to find it. Your take on Olbermann is as delusional as we have come to expect from you.

Bill Oreilly and Fox news and my Favorite Ann Coulter are the only media outlets that tell the viewers, the truth about the daily news, the Networks and CNN are brainwashing there viewers to believe the same liberal ways that they believe, in

Bill Oreilly is the best and will be because he tells it like it is

And if they can't get Obermann, where is a like minded source of information on MSM?

You left-wing pinko commies want the terrorists to win! I personally want to thank Bill O'Reilly and Fox News. I'd heard of The Daily Kos before but hadn't really checked it out until Bill-O started his psychotic ranting about it. Now I read it daily.

Likewise, I wasn't a regular viewer of "Countdown" until the right-wing potted plants here on MMFA started their incessant whining about it. Now it's a preset on my DVR.

My basic rule of thumb is this: If Bill O'Reilly doesn't like you, you've got to be doing something right.

So you see...Fox News and their simple-minded, knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing, bottom-feeding viewers actually do serve a purpose after all. Wait! Was that hate speech?
