Iowa waitress to media, on coverage of Clinton tipping story: "You people are really nuts"
In a November 9 New York Times article, Iowa waitress Anita Esterday criticized the media's response to her recent comment to National Public Radio that "nobody got left a tip" when Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) and her campaign staff ate at the restaurant where she works. According to the article, Esterday told a Times reporter: "You people are really nuts. ... There's kids dying in the war, the price of oil right now -- there's better things in this world to be thinking about than who served Hillary Clinton at Maid-Rite and who got a tip and who didn't get a tip."
From the Times article:
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential campaign on Thursday introduced a Web site dedicated exclusively to the instantaneous rebuttal of charges or news reports it deems offensive or wrong.
And the day offered a perfect opportunity for the campaign, with a potentially embarrassing mini-scandal: a waitress's report that Mrs. Clinton had failed to tip after eating at a Maid-Rite diner in central Iowa, an assertion that ricocheted around the Internet on Thursday.
After NPR broadcast the report, Mrs. Clinton's campaign responded by saying the candidate and her aides had in fact left a tip: $100 on a $157 check at the diner. The restaurant manager, Brad Crawford, confirmed in interviews, including with The New York Times, that Mrs. Clinton, of New York, and her retinue had indeed left a tip, though he did not say how much.
NPR later included Mr. Crawford's and the campaign's versions of events in an editor's note attached to the online version of its report.
But by then the story had been picked up and expanded upon on by, among others, the Drudge Report, which included a link to a report about a tip that Mrs. Clinton neglected to give in 2000. The Web sites of NBC News and ABC News also carried the story.
[...]
Reached at her home in Iowa, the waitress, Anita Esterday, said that neither she nor a colleague who helped serve Mrs. Clinton recalled seeing any tip.
She said a local staff member of Mrs. Clinton's campaign was in the restaurant on Thursday to tell them that the campaign had left a tip.
She said that when she and her colleague said they had not seen a tip, the staff member gave each of them $20.
Ms. Esterday said she did not understand what all the commotion was about.
"You people are really nuts," she told a reporter during a phone interview. "There's kids dying in the war, the price of oil right now -- there's better things in this world to be thinking about than who served Hillary Clinton at Maid-Rite and who got a tip and who didn't get a tip."

Good for her because she is 100% right. The media is nuts. More attempts to stop Hillary.
Well the media is nuts, but the story was legitimate because there was some question as to whether a tip was left.
She's running for president. You should expect her every move to be scrutinized.
I think you miss the point. The over-scrutiny is just ridiculous at this point. It is getting away from the real issues.
I am no fan of Hillary and I won't vote for her in the primaries or general election, but this scrutiny is just absolute stupidity.
Both this lady and her colleague (who served the Clinton crowd) were stiffed by Hillary. Within the next 48 hours though, the manager (who was not in the restaurant on the day the Clinton crowd stiffed the waitresses) and the waitresses go out of their way to defend Hillary's cheap behavior. I wonder if they were threatened with the loss of their jobs/food licences/and the like. For the record, this is not the first time than "caring Ms. Clinton" has stiffed a minimum-wage earner.
Oh, of course they had to try to keep the manager quiet over this huge scandal. In fact, I'm sure there was a bunch of goons who came in and physically threatened them if they blabbed about the lack of a tip.
Do you people have any concept of how ridiculous you sound?
Less ridiculous than the Clinton campaign, I'm sure. BTW, hasn't Sandy Burglar joined the Clinton Inc. machine now?
Thank you for your relevant response.
Hey, Rube! I smell a Republican!
Less ridiculous than accusing the Clinton campaign of "roughing up" a diner's staff.
Before you continue with malicious slander, I think you should present some proof. It seems elemental that the staff put a large tip on the VISA. The boss was away that day. The waitresses didn't know anything about a tip, but the boss looked at the receipt and said, "Oh, yeah. They left a tip." Meanwhile, aware of an incoming Drudge attack, they sent around another staffer to give the women $20 cash.
This is so much like the modus operandi of the "Al Gore invented the internet," "He's wearing earth tones to look manly," and other lying, constructed stories, that it's ridiculous.
To Democrats supporting any candidate: stand up for any Democrat who gets lies told about them. Make it a solid wall. Send letters to the reporters who try to retail this trash. Push back. And yes, that includes lies and slanders told about candidates you do not support. They're Democrats.
Yeah, the media need to get back to real issues. Like what Britney is doing with her kids today.
you must be out of your mind. candidate dines with entourage, and she's in charge of leaving a tip? what next, whether she uses one square or two in the stall. get a life.
Oh, you can expect it, but it's nuts to have this much scrutiny on the minutia of one campaign. The second, ignored part of the original NPR story was one where a woman with relatives dying from cancer asked Obama a question, started crying, and Obama comforted her. He promised to write a letter for her, BUT HE NEVER DID!!!! Is that a legitimate issue? Not according to the woman involved. She says, in fact, that he's busy and he's sure it just got overlooked, and that's all right with her. That seems to be a typical feature of these stories. The "poor victims" don't think anything about it. Only press whores and fools do.
The campaign as a whole is ramping up into the War against Gore mode, and the heavy lying has begun. Those haircut stories? The Edwardses are rich? Obama is a Muslim? That's just the beginning. Put on your flak jackets.
Dick Cheney picked up a shot gun and injured someone, Hillary Clinton didn't leave a tip and hurt the waitress and Hillary herself.
Well the media is nuts, but the story was legitimate because there was some question as to whether a tip was left.
She's running for president. You should expect her every move to be scrutinized.
You can't argue with that kind of logic.
I understand that when Rudy Guiliani was staying with his homosexual friends he used to wear pancake makeup and eye-protectors to bed each night when he went to sleep.
He's running for president. And he should expect that story to be equally scrutinized by our serious media. I'm sure DOGRUN81 would agree.
Part 4 folks.
Part 1: Cleavage-gate
Part 2: Laughing-gate
Part 3: Clapping-gate
Part 4: Tip-gate.
Holy crap! The scandals! The craziness of that Hillary Clinton woman and her campaign.
Here puppy, here puppy!
Just the latest bell-filled toy that has excited the MSM's ball-chasing puppies to the point of uncontrolled peeing and high-pitched yipping.
Gooood Puhhhh-peeees!
And all of these will be added to her "baggage".
Wanna bet we start hearing about "the Hillary scandals" out of the mouths of boobs?
Please...
Mixing Kafka and Freud gives me migranes. Don't go there.
Indeed, indeed it will be. Which is sort of sad, and I'm sure, if it hasn't happened already, which it probably has, right wing commentators (re: almost everyone in the media today) will report on how this is just another example of how "cold" and "mean" Hillary Clinton is, and I'm sure they'll find some other things.
You nailed it in one sentence AppleBoy...
"It will all be added to her 'baggage'."
Even NPR. Dirty, filthy, corporate punks. They oughta all gather in the NPR conference room, and stuff their corporate heads in the toilet.
Dear Conservative Fungus: that's what's brought you guys success in the last few years: spreading bs rumors that a catchy, even if they're lies.
And how did you give yourself such an apt nickname?
Bravo, but you forgot the "gotcha" comment. Must have been a quiet news day for the MSM. The Internet has become a double-edged sword. What kind of tip does a Maid-Rite warrant these days, anyway?
You know, managers regularly deliver the bill in person to important/famous people. Perhaps this is what could have happened? Does anyone know if that particular restaurant pools their tips?
Better question: Does anyone care?
The story is absolutely false.
They left a $100 tip.
From Media Matters story above:
"Reached at her home in Iowa, the waitress, Anita Esterday, said that neither she nor a colleague who helped serve Mrs. Clinton recalled seeing any tip. "
So, obviously it is not "100% false"
Computer why do you not just send us a link from youtube like you did yesterday and tell us to watch this because its true.
You couldn't even see the truth about the Cleland ad AFTER you watched it. But, it didn't stop you from spouting off about it when you had NO IDEA what the ad actually looked like in the first place. No reason to get into that again though. Anybody who thinks that ad compared Cleland and bin Laden is certifiably insane. Enjoy your new jacket and padded room Dorris.
Computer keep up with the personal attacks. you seem to come on here and spout garbage. Just because you say something on here and tell us to watch it or read it does not mean it is true.
Dorris, in case you haven't noticed, I'm not saying anything. I'm directing you to what has been said by the stiffed waitress. Get a clue.
Your the one that needs a clue. The manager at the resturant verified that a tip was indeed give.
en
He did? THis was his quote:
"
The manager (Brad Crawford) said he can't say for sure if Esterday was tipped for serving Clinton and her guests, Christie Vilsack and Ruth Harkin. (Vilsack is the wife of former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack and Harkin is the wife of Iowa Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin). But Crawford said he believes Esterday's account that she received no tip.
"Where Hillary was sitting, there was no tip left," Crawford said.
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=16143435
Well the AP things differently
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071108/ap_po/clinton_tip_3
So the manager has now directly contradicted himself in two different news stories? Why would he tell two entirely different accounts DorrisRussel?
Read the AP Article .
I did read it. Now you should read the NPR article and compare Crawford's quotes in both as i have. He changes his story completely from one article to the next. Don't you find that just a little bit odd? Which story of his are we supposed to believe? The first version or the second version?
I find it odd that you feel the need to dismiss the current AP article. What is your agenda?
I'm not dismissing it. I want to know why his story has changed. Why the 2 completely different stories from the manager DorrisRussell? Which version is the truth? Is the truth not important to you?
You know, I can't help but notice this sounds exactly like a mock hard-hitting interview Stephen Colbert would give... the line "Is the truth not important to you?" is insane in this context. None of this matters. Get over it.
In the first story, Crawford admits he wasn't at the diner that day. I don't see any unreconcileable contradiction between the two stories.
Clinton didn't pay the bill, so I wouldn't expect a tip to necessarily be at her seat either.
It is possible that someone pocketed the tip. I was a short-order cook during college and it happened to me on several occasions from people I thought I could trust.
It is a non-story.
Hey computer and some of you others-- did you read the entry here? The NPR story was admittedly wrong-- that was the whole POINT of the NYT article. So why do you insist on continuing to quote THE NPR STORY???!!!
So why do you insist on continuing to quote THE NPR STORY???!!!
Because the incorrect NPR story is more to their liking than the actual facts???
Computer Doris has provided you links, why are you trolling? A tip was left, what else do you want?
Sounds like somebody is getting "Swift Boated" here.
Who is being "Swiftboated"?
Sorry but this isn't worth the keystrokes to explain the joke. I'm moving on.
This has to be the silliest story of the week.
I'll believe whichever version safely brings our troops home from Iraq. How about that?
Computer says no.
If you read the stories and put it in a story line, you can see that at first the boss didn't know anything. He wasn't there when the campaign showed up. Later, he looked at the receipts, the next day, and saw the tip.
The waitress said she didn't get the tip the day before, because she hadn't.
You know, you'd really better look to the revolting candidates you've got on your side. Your "front-runner's" big political pal has been indicted by a grand jury. We may be near the end of the Republican Party. So put your rhetorical skills to work trying to prop up your transvestite liar candidate.
Dirty, filthy, conservative...
computers. Masters of lying, masters of filth.
You also omitted this little part of the NPR story:
Maid-Rite's manager, Brad Crawford, said Thursday that while he was not present at the restaurant on Oct. 8, he knew that a bill was paid by the campaign that day. He also said that he believed three of six servers working that day received tips from people he thought were working for or affiliated with the Clinton campaign.
Crawford said he didn't know if campaign staffers meant "for their tips to be distributed to everybody" or whether they were meant only for individual servers.
-----------------------------------
I suppose Clinton and the group should be given the benefit of the doubt to be fair here.
What happened is a classic restaurant rip-off---- some of the servers kept ALL of the tips... happens every day.....
The story will evolve into fiscal irresponsibility. A $100 tip on a $150 bill!! Where were they going next? To the hair stylist?
Well, he wasn't even there that day. But I'll give him credit for trying to smooth over all sides. He can't call the Clinton's liars and if calls his 30 year workers liars they would likely kick his behind.
By the way, maid-rites are great sandwiches.
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=16143435
Isn't that the last Maid Rite in existence? Seems I saw a story on it on Alton Brown a few months ago.......
There's a number of them left in Iowa. Not sure about anywhere else.
Computer the Manager said they left a tip, what do you not get about that?
The Manager, Brad Crawford, said this: .
"Where Hillary was sitting, there was no tip left," Crawford said.
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=16143435
The Manager said this according to the AP
But Brad Crawford, manager of the Toledo Maid-Rite, said Clinton's campaign aides paid the bill for lunch and left a tip to be divided among the servers.
"They all paid their bill and they left a tip. They paid it all that same day when they left and everything was good," he said.
Crawford said he didn't know why Esterday may not have received any of the money.
"If she got left out it wasn't because they meant to leave her out," Crawford said of Esterday. "If something happened with the disbursement, it's probably my fault."
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071108/ap_po/clinton_tip_3
I haven't left a cash tip for years. I pay by card, and write in the amount for the tip on the statement. Is it possible that's what happened here?
I explained to her that our credit card machine, you know, doesn't add on the tip," Esterday said.
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=16143435
I saw that afterwards. Still, the lack of a tip when someone was looking doesn't mean that the tip wasn't handed to someone. It doesn't prove that there was no tip left, by any stretch of the imagination.
The point is not whether a tip was left or not. The point is that there was legitimate doubt as to whether a tip was left.
Why would you expect media outlets to ignore it? Everything is always magnified during a campaign.
If someone could establish some sort of pattern that Hillary doesn't tip, that is a minor consideration. If she didn't tip once, that's an oversight. It's a non-story.
I don't see conservatives criticized over such trivialities. And even if they were, then that's a symptom of a severely maladjusted media. I don't see how you would disagree with that.
And that doesnt mean a thing. I often pay with a credit card and leave the tip WITH THE PAYMENT. So anyone looking at may table or the manager if he didnt take the payment might not know and certainly wouldnt see the tip. He also might not have wanted to leave a hundred dollar bill on the table and given it to someone who WASNT the manager. The restaurant is saying there WAS a tip. Why would they say there was if there wasnt do you care about the truth?
Computer does not care about the truth, he cares about hijacking and derailing a thread, he did this yesterday also. It could be snowing out and we could all say its snowing out and he would start with "its not snowing , because I just looked go look" we would all go look and the same BS would occur. Total derail monger.
---"No reason to get into that [Cleland ad] again though."---
Oh, no, no. No reason.
As he simultaneously proceeds to get into it again.
Yes 100% false:
"After NPR broadcast the report, Mrs. Clinton's campaign responded by saying the candidate and her aides had in fact left a tip: $100 on a $157 check at the diner. The restaurant manager, Brad Crawford, confirmed in interviews, including with The New York Times, that Mrs. Clinton, of New York, and her retinue had indeed left a tip, though he did not say how much."
[link to mediamatters.org]
So maybe the boss was pocketing the tips? Or maybe he didn't sort them out yet?
"Why would I lie about not getting a tip?" she told NPR. She also maintained that her co-workers at the restaurant had not received tips.
A Clinton campaign staffer called on Esterday at the restaurant Thursday after the story aired. The staff member apologized to her and gave her a $20 bill, according to Esterday. The Clinton campaign confirmed that visit. The campaign also produced photocopies of receipts showing $157.46 was paid to Maid-Rite on a VISA card on Oct. 8 for meals consumed by the candidate's entourage. The tip was supposed to have been paid in cash, and the campaign insisted such a payment was made but has declined to make available a staff member who was present at Maid-Rite and left tip money."
The manager (Brad Crawford) said he can't say for sure if Esterday was tipped for serving Clinton and her guests, Christie Vilsack and Ruth Harkin. (Vilsack is the wife of former Iowa Gov. "Where Hillary was sitting, there was no tip left," Crawford said.

Hillary is Mr. Pink
Computer this is what the waitress said
You people are really nuts," she told a reporter during a phone interview. "There's kids dying in the war, the price of oil right now -- there's better things in this world to be thinking about than who served Hillary Clinton at Maid-Rite and who got a tip and who didn't get a tip."
Care to comment?
I don't really care about her opinion on geo-politics. Do you care to comment about the fact that it is TOTALLY TRUE, as she herself says, that HRC DID NOT leave her a tip? And that after this story broke she was bought off by one of HRC's henchwomen for 20 bucks?
What does this mean to you?
After NPR broadcast the report, Mrs. Clinton's campaign responded by saying the candidate and her aides had in fact left a tip: $100 on a $157 check at the diner. Doris ---> Computer obviously isn't going to let a few pesky facts get in the way of a good talking point /smear job. What a joke.
Compuer does not like the fact that the AP article proves that he is a LIAR, so now he will attempt to derail this thread someother way.
I'm using direct quotes from the people involved. You are so blinded by partisanship that you just ignore direct quotes? I'm using facts here and you willingly ignore them.
I have given you facts and a news article. You ignore them.
Dorris, how can you call me a liar? I am quoting Crawford directly. I have given you quotes and a news article and you have completely ignored them. Explain to me why Crawford's story has changed and which version we are supposed to believe.
Why are you dismissing the AP story? The manager says a tip was given.
Why are you dismissing the NPR article? The manager says no tip was given.
Which is more likely, that they thought there wasn't a tip, but then found out there actually was, or the other way around?
Why are you selectively quoting the NPR article to suit your agenda? You keep leaving out parts that don't fit into your attempt to spin this issue.
"I explained to her that our credit card machine, you know, doesn't add on the tip," Esterday said. "And she said, 'Well, then, they left a $100 bill there.' And I said, 'Well, it didn't get divided up amongst us, because I had gotten nothing.'
"She just said, 'Well, there was one left,'" Esterday said. "She just kept repeating, 'There was one left.'
After the campaign staffer stopped at the diner Thursday, Esterday said, the $100 tip was a hot topic.
"Two others that had worked with me that day turned around and said, 'We didn't know about any $100 tip,' because they both turned around and said 'We didn't get a part of it.' And they didn't. So, it's like 'OK, where did it go?' That's the mystery question: Where did it go?"
Esterday said it would surprise her if money that was intended to be split among the staff was never shared."
Your using selective quotes and not putting them in the context of the full story.
Spin spin spin. You sir have zero credibility.
Ohhh... "context". I've provided a link to the entire article. Read the whole thing if you like. The context of the article in no way changes the meaning of any of the quotes i've used.
I have provide an entire link also , why do you keep dismissing it?
http://www.suntimes.com/news/elections/643065,CST-NWS-clinton09.article
http://www.miamiherald.com/campaign08/story/300697.html
I already read the entire article. Apparently you have reading comprehension issues. You continue quoting the parts that suit your agenda without putting the entire story together. It's embarrassing watching you delude yourself.
It's clear that a $100 tip was given, but the people at the restaurant are unclear on who it was shared with. Your attempts to blame this on the Clinton campaign are pathetic. What's even more pathetic is how quick people like you are to jump on stories like this that add zero to the debate on picking a quality president. We have serious issues that need to be addressed, go play your little gotcha smear games else where.
Again, i'll ask, why would he change his story? the quote i gave to you was his original quote on the matter. What caused him to change his story DorrisRussell?
why do you not ask the manager yourself? Email him, call him.
Why didn't the AP ask him themselves? That's what you should be wondering. They didn't do a very good job of reporting. It bothers me that you have zero curiousity about the sudden 180 degree change in the manager's story.
Maybe because it is irrelevant? Maybe the NPR article you posted is incorrect? Again if it concerns you email the newsoutlets and demand to know why there is a difference.
I think this is the saddest moment in the history of America. This flame war right here. After 9/11, Pearl Harbor, and Antietam, this is the saddest moment in the history of America.
He is taking the blame yet he wasn't there.
Maybe Crawford should run for president.
The restaurant said they left a tip. If she didnt get one she got stiffed by the staff not the Clinton campaign.
HRC's henchwomen
Oh my, do I detect gynephbia?
Nice selective quote job. You sir are a total joke. Did you actually think we wouldn't read the NPR article?
"I explained to her that our credit card machine, you know, doesn't add on the tip," Esterday said. "And she said, 'Well, then, they left a $100 bill there.' And I said, 'Well, it didn't get divided up amongst us, because I had gotten nothing.'

Esterday said it would surprise her if money that was intended to be split among the staff was never shared."
You are way out there my friend. Let's say the Senator and her party paid with a VISA and then stiffed the staff on purpose. If this was their habit, to leave no tips what so ever, do you think we have heard about it yet? Basic common sense should inform you that if no tip was left in this instance it is the first time, most likely an oversight by some intern operating on 4 hours of sleep and not because the Senator is "pink".
You are trying to make a solar sytem out of a mole hill, move on to something important, like hiding your porn from your mom.
That is awesome! I love this waitress! I feel like mailing her another tip right now. My only regret is that it was a newspaper article and not a TV interview, so we can't see the stupid expressions on the reporters faces when she laid into them.
LOL
Sweet! It's takes a waitress in Iowa to remind reporters to stop with the dumb sh*t and focus on what's important.
Rest assured Rush will claim that she's a "phony waitress" and that she's too stupid to come up with that stuff on her own, she's just regurgitating some liberal BS that was fed to her. Possibly we'll even get to hear that this is another example of the liberals hiding behind another supposedly unchallengable figure and will then proceed to insult and trash her.
That's a good call right there, what you're saying. I'm sure she'll be "exposed" by these rocket scientists as just that.
I think HRC probably sent out her campaign enforcement patrol to threaten the waitress and her family. The phone call went something like .... "retract your statement or end up like Vince Foster."
:P
"Ms. Esterday's cat 'Violinstrings' could not be reached for comment..."
I think the $100 dollars was hush money.... She obviously got the Bill Clinton special earlier that week and they want to keep her quite.
It appears that Ms. Esterday is having ideas strapped onto her belt, as the old saying goes.
(I've really been negligent about keeping that one alive)
HBL, most gals don't wear those "sanitary" belts any more. You're dating yourself. In this case the bombs er ideas were strapped to her white leather, rhine stoned belt worn low on the hips and not through the belt loops.
And that she's only 13, too young to criticise the press...
unless she complains about the tip; in which case, she's a hero. :-0
Pearlene, well said! It takes someone from the "Heartland" to tell it the way it should be said and not pussy foot around in a he said, she said debate. "It's over, it's done, get back to your real jobs (if you have real jobs and really know how to perform them). Bravo, waitress!!
If the truth squad was working, one of the reporters would have retorted, "we know there is a war and the price of oil is bringing the lower middle class to its knees, but we have to report this so our corporate overlords can keep their deregulations and lack of oversight that the Repubs serve them."
When the words come from the heart, it can sting.
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential campaign on Thursday introduced a Web site dedicated exclusively to the instantaneous rebuttal of charges or news reports it deems offensive or wrong
She needs to do this to stop the smear machine.
While Mrs. Clinton is my next-to-last choice for the nomination, I would have to say that if whether or not her staff failed to drop a tip at a large business lunch had any impact at all on why I would or would not vote for her, I don't deserve to have a vote.
Anita Esterday for Congress!
You Poor little worms on a tiny little minuscule mud ball Get a life.... The waitress is smarter than all of you combined.
Jesus H. Christ on Rubber Crutches! Can you believe this? Articles of Impeachment for Dick Cheney were introduced in the House just two days ago, and our stalwart Press Corps is babbling about whether or not Clinton left a tip! I.....DON'T....CARE! Who here hasn't forgotten to leave a tip? Is it possible that she assumed her campaign people would take care of it? Does she even carry cash on the campaign trail? This makes me so friggin' mad I could bite nails! This is how the Troglodytes will beat us...again. They'll bury us in meaningless, trivial CRAP! And the boobs in the media will gladly participate!
HOLY CRAP!
My sentiments exactly!! My wife and I left a restaurant once each thinking the other left a tip, and we went back the next day and talked to the manager and left a tip with him, along with our apologies. And my wife had worked as a waitress for a few yeas, so it was as accidental as could be. Unless someone could prove that Hillary never leaves a tip (which I am sure is untrue) then this is no story AT ALL. And if she regularly does not leave tips, it is a minor story at best.
Absolutely Nerzog...
NPR has just disgraced itself again. National Putrid Radio.
Who remembers whether they received a tip or not from a meal that was served almost 7 years ago?
Even so, why is this even an issue? I didn't realize that tipping was mandatory. You would think that Hillary and her entire staff just skipped out on the bill from all this attention this incredibly silly story has received.
Good point Kelso...
The next time Clinton and her campaign eat at a restaurant, the corporate media will be abuzz with stories about Clinton "dining and dashing," or maybe cursing at the waitress for inadequate service, or perhaps robbing the establishment at gun point.
NPR will cover this "story" in great detail as they try to get to the "truth." Dirty, filthy NPR.
Hillary probably asked for her water glass to be refilled, or for another fork when she "accidentally" dropped hers on the floor, because she's a rhymes-with-witch, of course. She could avoid Scandals like this if she just paid attention to the MSM and followed a short (but sure to get longer) list of "dont's"--
1. Don't clap.
2. Don't laugh.
3. When you leave a tip, be Ostentatious about it, so everyone can see you do it.
4. But don't flaunt your generosity.
5. Don't show cleavage.
6. Don't display your husband, or you will be accused of hiding behind him.
7. Don't hide your husband, or you will be accused of being afraid of "Clinton Baggage."
I'm sure there are more.
Tipping, although not expressly stated, is kinda mandatory...I worked as a server/bartender for a while and the only way you make money is on tips. Anyone who has waited tables knows that you only get paid half of minimum wage to cover taxes, because they expect you to be tipped enough to make up the rest
Depends upon the state on whether or not they can do that, but personally, I think that it should be illegal to do that.
1. That's basically requiring a tip in order to pay staff in order to keep prices artificially low, or profits of resteraunts artifically high. If you can only make payroll with 15% more on your food, then add 15% more to it.
2. A tip should be just that, a gratitutity for good service. It should not be manditory. The only time when I absolutely refuse to leave a tip is when they add it on automatically. Some resteraunts do a gratitutity charge on top of the meal.
There has only been one other time I've refused to leave a tip, because the waitress is rude. I usually tip somewhere around 20% of the meal. On a $150 meal, that would come out to around $30. Reportedly, they've left $140 in tips, so far. Oh, the humanity! They only left a 93% tip.
What if the tip had only been 10%? OMG!! Somebody contact the Drudge Report immediatedly, this injustice cannot stand! How can someone who doesn't leave at least a 15% tip capable of serving as President of the United States?!
The republicans just want to know how much the tip was so they can tax her appropriately.
Do Wingnut websites somehow support their trolls to infect Progressive sites? This clown, Computer, was on such a mission based entirely on dishonesty and yet he was sooo persistent. Kinda makes me think he's doing someone's dirty work to gum up the honest discussion that goes on here. Just a thought.
"You people are really nuts," she told a reporter during a phone interview. "There's kids dying in the war, the price of oil right now -- there's better things in this world to be thinking about than who served Hillary Clinton at Maid-Rite and who got a tip and who didn't get a tip."
She should have her own talk show - her priorities are more in order than most who are in front of a microphone.
the waitress should be congratulated, she is one of the few people who gave an honest assessment of this lapdog media,if the american people can call it that, let see if the media covers the indictment of bernard kerik the way media covers anybody that is associated with hillary clinton.since it was giuliani who hired kerik as correction commissioner and police commissioner, and was recommended to be the head of homeland security.I very much doubt it.
Sorry those two jokes have already been taken.
Congrats on the first use of Hitler in regard to this item.
You too may recieve an(other) offer to lie, hold out for some real money. Try to be creative, maybe you can get a non union job writng for tv.

No wonder so many of us hate the media. They are petty and immature. Most of the stuff they consider legitimate news isn't worthy of a gossip column.
SHE HIT A GRAND SLAM ! ...
"You people are really nuts!"
It has to come down to an everyday common waitress to utter the most compelling and accurate descripton of people who choose to make news stories such as this for ratings.
I just wish she would be my waitress so I could thank her for such a wonderfully intelligent thing to say. Plus if she somehow, someway didn't get tipped, I would tip her for me and for Hillary.
It's NUTS. I wish she could be here to put some of these posters in their place. Some of the posts here are so desparate to add what they call baggage to Hillary's reputation. By doing so they join with the media NUTS who are trying to make this a big deal of a news story. RepubliCan'ts only damage themselves when they stoop to this low level.
As far as changing the story goes, i've wittnessed thousands of instances where people say one thing, only to come back to correct themselves after more time to think about what they had said.wrong
Especially desparate is this person called Computer. This person is worried sick that Hillary and Bill just might soon return to the White House.

First Edward's and his expensive haircut and now this "tipping" issue. I hate the media. Pure and simple.
So what are they supposed to do, announce "I'M LEAVING A TIP" when they pay, just so there's no misunderstanding? Why would they even expect someone to be asking about it?
If she does that she's being a showy braggart. Hillary is better off realizing that no matter what she does, she's going to be criticized for it, so she might as well do what she thinks is the right thing.
I swear, the first candidate to answer a question like "how much did you tip" from the media with "Get Bent" will win more states than Ronald Reagan.
An organization like Hillary's should be on top of "little" things like this because anyone knows Drudge and Rush will milk this for all it's worth. History proves that.
The fact that Rush and Drudge will milk this says much more about them than Hillary.
They left a tip. The waitress is a liar!
Strange how some people can focus on whether or not a tip was left at a diner but completely ignore their own candidate's third marriage, indicted friends or cross-dressing.
Anyone seen a scan of the credit/debit card receipt, etc.?
The waitress' pay stub will show something.
Stop talking, show us something!
"I don't see conservatives criticized over such trivialities."
Which conservative didn't tip?
No wonder conservatives are filthy rich.
"focus on what's important."
Like driver's licenses for illegal aliens.
First Edward's and his expensive haircut and now this "tipping" issue.
$400 for a bald-headed haircut!

The Gasping Old Party has lost Middle America. All it has left now are bigots and ideologues. Recquiescat in enfer, GOP. It has not been good to know ya.
Norman Mailer has passed. I have read and intend to finish his article on God.
Hillary, Obama: Edwards, Osama; Kucinich and Biden, Dorgan and Bidd. Romney, Guiliani, McCain and whoever I just hope they will remember.
My daughter tuned six today.

May God bless ms Esterday.
And Satan is already blessing Computer.
