CNN's Yellin on Clinton's alleged failure to tip: "[W]hy get into a tiff with a working woman?"
On the November 11 edition of CNN's Late Edition, discussing the Democratic presidential candidates, congressional correspondent Jessica Yellin asserted that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) has "had a very bad few weeks" and added, "There was also the story of the tip with the waitress where she said she did leave a tip, but why get into a tiff with a working woman?" As Media Matters for America noted, a November 8 National Public Radio (NPR) report had claimed that waitress Anita Esterday did not get a tip after Clinton and her staff ate at the Iowa restaurant where Esterday works. However, a November 8 AP article reported that restaurant manager Brad Crawford said a tip was left, adding, "If something happened with the disbursement [of the tip], it's probably my fault." The New York Times reported November 9: "After NPR broadcast the report, Mrs. Clinton's campaign responded by saying the candidate and her aides had in fact left a tip: $100 on a $157 check at the diner." The Times report also noted that Crawford "confirmed" that Clinton "and her retinue had indeed left a tip, though he did not say how much."
Moreover, while Yellin did not explain what she thinks the Clinton campaign should have done differently so as to avoid what Yellin saw as "get[ting] into a tiff with a working woman," Ana Marie Cox wrote in a Nov. 9 entry on Time magazine's Swampland blog:
The most interesting thing about the Clinton did-she-leave-a-tip-or-not bruhaha yesterday was the ferocity and speed with which the Clinton campaign pushed back -- with reporters at least. One can assume that's because they know this is the kind of story, true or not, that sticks to a candidate like, uhm, an expensive hair cut.
Esterday herself said of the media response to the tip story:
"You people are really nuts," she told a reporter during a phone interview. "There's kids dying in the war, the price of oil right now -- there's better things in this world to be thinking about than who served Hillary Clinton at Maid-Rite and who got a tip and who didn't get a tip."

She's had a very bad few weeks. Suzanne [Malveaux, CNN White House correspondent] is absolutely right, that she is smart to come out and state that she made a mistake and that she wasn't -- or she wasn't at her best. There was also the story of the tip with the waitress where she said she did leave a tip, but why get into a tiff with a working woman? She's not had a great few weeks. Bill Clinton shouldn't cover for her, he should let her explain herself on her own.

Justice, who cares whether ones tips in cash or on a credit card? The waiter/waitress will get the tip anyway, and it was a very generous tip. Hillary obviously has the money to spend so she did it. She was first villified for not being thoughtful to the waitress, then she was villified for "spending wildly." Now she's being villified for defending herself in this matter. If she kept silent, that probably would have confirmed the story that she didn't leave the tip. Hillary can tip however she pleases. I don't think an extra "Aw shucks lady here's $20 for the effort" would have been necessary. The media is simply embarrassed to have been refuted by the restaurant, its manager, and waitress. The fact they proved the MSM wrong is NOT Hillary Clinton's fault.

I worked at a hotel in Pittsburgh during the early 80's when Bush 1 was campaining. The entourage had about 15 rooms and gave the front desk clerk a credit card. When verifying the credit card, it was DECLINED. Should GB1 have been accused of attempted THEFT by DECEPTION...no, we got another card and didn't even need the press to help us. What the hell has happened to the journalists of this country?

This is the first I heard of this matter.
1. Nobody expects Hillary to walk up to the cash register to pay for the group. To try to pin it on her is very unfair.
2. Hillary's campaign is rolling in how many States? How many restaurants do campaign workers eat at over the course of a campaign? Even if they didn't leave a tip at this place, it at worst, was a simple oversight.
3. Everybody in the media who reported or commented on this ought to be forced to do two weeks of Brittany reporting because that is the level they have sunk.
Your first two points ignore the fact that they did leave a tip. They said they did and the restaurant said they did. Why pretend that they might not have?
Give AA a little credit, it looks like he's actually trying to think for himself.He may still be mesmerized into thinking that the media lie was true, but he's gotten as far as saying the made-up offense may have been benign, rather than a malicious imaginary event.

I tend to agree with AA on this one. Even IF no tip was left, how is it Hillary's fault? The reason these candidates hire campaign staffers is to take care of stuff like this. Does Hillary even carry a purse on these stops?

Some people took exception to my "even if.." statement. Personally, I could care less either way. By all accounts the tip was paid. Granted. My comment was aimed at the naysayers who might hang on to the belief that it wasn't paid.
Either way, this storyline is a non issue and I hope very embarrassing for everyone in the media who used this as some sort of filler.

1-James McDougal - Clinton 's convicted Whitewater partner died of an apparent heart attack, while in solitary confinement. He was a key witness in Ken Starr's investigation.
2 -Mary Mahoney - A former White House intern was murdered July 1997 at a Starbucks Coffee Shop in Georgetown . The murder happened just after she was to go public with her story of sexual harassment in the White House.
3- Vince Foster - Former White House counselor and colleague of Hillary Clinton at Little Rock 's Rose Law firm. Died of a gunshot wound to the head, ruled a suicide.
4- Ron Brown - Secretary of Commerce and former DNC Chairman. Reported to have died by impact in a plane crash. A pathologist close to the investigation reported that there was a hole in the top of Brown's skull resembling a gunshot wound. At the time of his death Brown was being investigated, and spoke publicly of his willingness to cut a deal with prosecutors. The rest of the people on the plane also died. A few days later the air Traffic controller committed suicide.
5- C. Victor Raiser II- Raiser, a major player in the Clinton fund raising organization died in a private plane crash in July 1992
6-Paul Tulley - Democratic National Committee Political Director found dead in a hotel room in Little Rock , September 1992. Described by Clinton as a 'Dear friend and trusted advisor'.
7-Ed Willey - Clinton fund raiser, found dead November 1993 deep in the woods in VA of a gunshot wound to the head. Ruled a suicide. Ed Willey died on the same day his wife Kathleen Willey claimed Bill Clinton groped her in the oval office in the White House. Ed Willey was involved in several Clinton fund raising events.
8-Jerry Parks -Head of Clinton's gubernatorial security team in Little Rock . Gunned down in his car at a deserted intersection outside Little Rock Park's son said his father was building a dossier on Clinton He allegedly threatened to reveal this information. After he died the files were mysteriously removed from his house.
9-James Bunch - Died from a gunshot suicide. It was reported that he had a 'Black Book' of people which contained names of influential people who visited prostitutes in Texas and Arkansas
10-James Wilson - Was found dead in May 1993 from an apparent hanging suicide. He was reported to have ties to Whitewater.
11-Kathy Ferguson- Ex-wife of Arkansas Trooper Danny Ferguson, was found dead in May 1994, in her living room with a gunshot to her head. It was ruled a suicide even though there were several packed suitcases, as if she were going somewhere. Danny Ferguson was a co-defendant along with Bill Clint on in the Paula Jones lawsuit. Kathy Ferguson was a possible corroborating witness for Paula Jones.
12-Bill Shelton - Arkansas State Trooper and fiance of Kathy Ferguson. Critical of the suicide ruli ng of his fiance, he was found dead in June, 1994 of a gunshot wound also ruled a suicide at the grave site of his fiance.
13-Gandy Baugh - Attorney for Clinton 's friend Dan Lassater, died by jumping out a window of a tall building January, 1994. His client was a convicted drug distributor.
14-Florence Martin - Accountant & sub-contractor for the CIA, was related to the Barry Seal Mena Airport drug smuggling case. He died of three gunshot wounds.
15- Suzanne Coleman - Reportedly had an affair with Clinton when he was Arkansas Attorney General. Died of a gunshot wound to the back of the head, ruled a suicide. Was pregnant at the time of her death.

In America, our justice system is based on the concept of INNOCENT until proven GUILTY. The Rightwing turn this noble principle upside down. 18- Paul Wilcher - Attorney investigating corruption at Mena Airport with Casolaro and the 1 980 'October Surprise' was found dead on a toilet June 22, 1993 in his Washington DC apartment. Had delivered a report to Janet Reno 3 weeks before his death.
19-Jon Parnell Walker - Whitewater investigator for Resolution Trust Corp. Jumped to his death from his Arlington , Virginia apartment balcony August 15, 1993.. He was investigating the Morgan Guaranty scandal.
20-Barbara Wise - Commerce Department staffer. Worked closely with Ron Brown and John Huang. Cause of death unknown. Died November 29, 1996. Her bruised, nude body was found locked in her office at the Department of Commerce.
21-Charles Meissner -Assistant Secretary of Commerce who gave John Huang special security clearance, died shortly thereafter in a small plane crash.
22- Dr. Stanley Heard - Chairman of t he National Chiropractic Health Care Advisory Committee died with his attorney Steve Dickson in a small plane crash. Dr. Heard, in addition to serving on Clinton 's advisory council personally treated Clinton 's mother, stepfather and brother.
23-Barry Seal - Drug running pilot out of Mena Arkansas , death was no accident.
24-Johnny Lawhorn Jr. - Mechanic, found a check made out to Bill Clinton in the trunk of a car left at his repair shop. He was found dead after his car had hit a utility pole.
25-Stanley Huggins - Investigated Madison Guaranty. His death was a purported suicide and his report was never released.
26- Hershell Friday - Attorney and Clinton fund raiser died March 1, 1994 when his plane exploded.
27-Kevin Ives & Don Henry - Known as 'The boys on the track' case. Reports say the boys may have stumbled upon the Mena Arkansas airport drug operation. A controversial case, the initial report of death said, due to falling asleep on railroad tracks. Later reports claim the 2 boys had been slain before being placed on the tracks. Many linked to the case died before their testimony could come before a Grand Jury.

and apparently there is some confusion in the right wing sites. this one says sgt. tim sabel died in a helicopter crash after taking clinton to the carrier roosevelt. along with the very suspicious fact that there was a lot of security and "marines with guns" at the crash site. damn those clintons. they even got the marine corps in on their sinister plans.

If they were going to assassinate Ron Brown by crashing a whole plane, why bother shooting him? Furthermore, is it unusual for plane crash victims to have puncture wounds? I kind of doubt it. I would imagine that they would suffer a wide variety of trauma.
