On Hannity & Colmes, Tammy Bruce purported to explain "Rodham family values"
SUMMARY: On Hannity & Colmes, radio host Tammy Bruce -- referring to a report that Sen. Hillary Clinton's brother, Anthony Rodham, is "a deadbeat dad who owes tens of thousands of dollars in child support" to his ex-wife -- claimed, "This is obviously Rodham family values." Bruce added, "[T]his isn't good for Hillary's campaign. I do think it speaks about the Rodham family itself. And I think it reflects on her just like Hillary's husband reflects on her. It's not good, neither one of them." Guest co-host Mark Steyn wondered: "[T]his is $75,000 [in back child support]. Couldn't the Clinton campaign have settled all this quietly when the campaign got going before it all became public?"
On the December 20 edition of Fox News' Hannity & Colmes, radio host Tammy Bruce said that a report that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's (D-NY) brother is behind on child support payments demonstrates "Rodham family values." A December 20 New York Post article reported that Clinton's brother, Anthony Rodham, "is a deadbeat dad who owes tens of thousands of dollars in child support" to his ex-wife, Nicole Boxer, the daughter of Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA). Referring to the article, guest co-host Mark Steyn asked Bruce: "Is Clinton fatigue already setting in early, Tammy?" Bruce responded: "Well, I think we had Clinton fatigue quite a while ago. This is obviously Rodham family values." Later, Bruce asserted: "But, you know, this isn't good for Hillary's campaign. I do think it speaks about the Rodham family itself. And I think it reflects on her just like Hillary's husband reflects on her. It's not good, neither one of them." Bruce also said: "But Nicole married this fellow, I think, pretty much knowing what she was getting. She knew who her sister-in-law was and the nature of that marriage. I don't think anybody should be surprised."
Also during the segment, referring to the Post's report that Rodham "stiffed" Boxer "out of $75,000 in child support," Steyn asked Democratic strategist Bob Beckel: "It makes you, it makes you wonder, Bob, if they are such smart campaigners -- this is $75,000. Couldn't the Clinton campaign have settled all this quietly when the campaign got going before it all became public?" Beckel responded: "The answer to your question is you legally can't do that."
From the December 20 edition of Fox News' Hannity & Colmes:
STEYN: Let's get back to good old negative stuff. The New York Post, Tammy, had a story today about Anthony Rodham being a deadbeat dad. He owes $75,000 to his ex-wife. If you can't keep track of the Clinton brothers -- this is the guy we last heard from I think six or seven years ago when he was involved in a hazelnut scam in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia, which is not an order of words one has cause to use terribly often. Is Clinton fatigue already setting in early, Tammy?
BRUCE: Well, I think we had Clinton fatigue quite a while ago. This is obviously Rodham family values. And here you've got the Boxer family, which has yet to say anything. But Nicole married this fellow, I think, pretty much knowing what she was getting, and she knew who her sister-in-law was and the nature of that marriage. I don't think anybody should be surprised.
Also, at the same time, of course, the Boxer family is not suffering. They are not living in poverty. Some people might argue that that's a heck of a lot of money to be arguing to pay someone for alimony when they are doing moderately well themselves. That's a whole another argument.
But, you know, this isn't good for Hillary's campaign. I do think it speaks about the Rodham family itself. And I think it reflects on her just like Hillary's husband reflects on her, and it's not good, neither one of them.
STEYN: It makes you, it makes you wonder, Bob, if they are such smart campaigners -- this is $75,000. Couldn't the Clinton campaign have settled all this quietly when the campaign got going before it all became public?
BECKEL: I'm still getting over the nuts in Georgia. The answer to your question is you legally can't do that. The other point here, is this is much ado about nothing. Everybody has known about Rodham from the beginning. This guy has been a problem. If you had every sibling who caused a problem for a candidate for president to cause a real problem, you wouldn't have any candidates for president. There's always one, you know? So I don't think it means anything.

Tammy Bruce opining on Clinton family values? Interesting. Actually anyone who knows anything about families knows that every kid that comes out has their own distinct personality type from the get go. Even with the same nurturance (or more possbily the nurturance is different depending on how the parent and offspring personality types jibes -or not - has alot to do with the individual's path in life. I come from a family of 10, 2 parents, 8 kids. We all have different personality types and we all made different choices that led us in a certain directions. Most good, a few not so much. In short (sic), I think she's full of it.
And why does it fall to someone's sibling to take up for lack of child support. It could be they've done it before and it's a black hole. Usually it's not a good idea to give or borrow money from family members.
We're not just electing a president, we're also electing his or her siblings. We're also electing his or her ex-spouses.
What else are going to be voting on? And please, don't waste my time with issues that affect me and my family.
OH MYYYY GOD! I can't believe Fox is going there ALREADY!
I bet the little blip about Huckabee's kid hanging the dog as a teen didn't even make the Fox airwaves last week!
If they really wanna open up this can of worms I think the Democrats are going to LOVE the challenge.:)
I guess you were hiding under a rock when the Clinton "can of worms" was opened ad nauseum and nothing was proven despite a gazillion dollars, special prosecuters and the like. And you are clearly naive or abusing substances if you don't understand the REAL damage done to this country by king George and his administration with it's REAL crimes. How old are you?
Yes, Friedbergboy, he is a hit and runner. Best for me not to even try to appeal to good sense he probably doesn't have anyway.
Yep, I'm just glad my scroll mouse works so well,;)
SAVE DEMOCRACY, VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT!!
I once went with my wife to a "seminar" that was a vailed attempt to sell timeshares because my wife insisted she wanted the free vacation.
We work hard for a living, and have two daughters we are very devoted to, yet a vacation without the kids is a fantasy we have had for the past 11 yrs. When we got to the seminar they had balloons, and sudden loud applause for people whom decided to sign for timeshares as they were showered with gifts with much hallabalu. They worked on us for 6hrs, we were exhausted, and I was ready to beat the salesman to death until they finally relented and gave us a coupon for three vacations to choose from.
To make it worst we had to take a two hour bus, and train ride home with this coupon's promise of a vacation to come. My wife was convinced they were for real, and when we tried to arrange for the vacation, the real comedy began and my wife became very upset about being lied to even though I had warned her well before and after the seminar that they would.
She learned her lesson, and has become very jaded about such offers ever since. I haven't had to deal with this sort of instinct to chase after something for nothing, or promises that don't make good sense from those making the promise.
The smears these people make about the Clintons, and certainly about Hillary are seen by Republican, Independant, and Democratic voters in the same way my wife sees the calls from solicitors for free anything, with disdain, and distrust.
I believe if they get in a general election with Hillary thinking all they have to do is turn it into a negative smear campaign they can beat the Clintons, they have another thing coming.
I truly believe if they campaign this way they will in reality be campaigning for Hillary. The Republicans railed about Clintons to get into power, then proved to everybody why they were the minority party for so long.
The Clinton's lead in an era that a whole voting generation is desparate for, a sincere form of democratic governance, the return of the rule of law, and real democratic leadership. We have less Clinton fatigue than an overwhelming anxiety that the Republicans want to turn us something America was never meant to be, a Facism.
So, Hannity's show will do more to elect the Clinton's the more they pound these kind of stories to slight Hillary, and her family. The more personal they get, the better for Hillary for President.
America loves an underdog that stands up to these kind of smears, and keeps on keeping on.
Happy Thoughts;
Dan Grady
How do I merit a reply like this when I was just burning on Fox News? Did the MM database get corrupted here so the wrong response got posted? I'm confusd.
“Clinton administration was the most corrupt in our history. And most of its defenders, such as David Brock, are ethically challenged.”---Kozakid
You have to stop watching Fox and listening to hate radio. They are rotting your soul.
As to Brock, he was ethically challenged prior to confessing his part in enabling the corrupt GOP. He realized the errors of his ways, repented in his books, and now makes amends thru this site.
Would that be an evolution in thinking (or a flip-flop)?? Just asking.;)
Evolution, obviously.
STEYN: "It makes you, it makes you wonder, Bob, if they are such smart campaigners -- this is $75,000. Couldn't the Clinton campaign have settled all this quietly when the campaign got going before it all became public?"
The 'smart' way to deal with liabilities, according to Mark Steyn, is to sweep them under the rug with money.
Is this just more conservative humor?
Actually, I believe that if Senator Clinton were to have paid off her brother's back child support, some campaign finance laws would have been broken.
Is this disgusting harlot suggesting that Senator Clinton break the law?
TAABI on Fox: Talk About Anything But Iraq.
$75K owed to someone, not related to any issue the voters care about, HUGE STORY! FAMILY VALUES! HYPOCRISY! A trillion dollars so Halliburton and Exxon can move into Iraq and be protected by U.S. troops for 50 years, meh.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all at MMFA. Keep up the good work.
Rodham Family Values?
As opposed to Rudy Giuliani Family Values?
Newt Gingrich Family Values?
Larry Craig Family Values?
What drugs are these people on?
Bush Family Values:
In 1990, federal regulators filed a $200-million lawsuit against Neil Bush and other officers of the Silverado Banking, accusing them of “gross negligence” contributing to its $1 billion collapse.
Grace Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp., a firm backed by Jiang Mianheng, the son of former Chinese President Jiang Zemin, that would pay Neil Bush $2 million in stock over five years. "You have absolutely no educational background in semiconductors do you?" asked Marshall Davis Brown, lawyer for Sharon Bush."That's correct," Bush, 48, responded.
He admitted in the deposition that he previously had sex with several other women while on trips to Thailand and Hong Kong at least five years ago. The women, he said, simply knocked on the door of his hotel room, entered and had sex with him. He said he did not know if they were prostitutes because they never asked for money and he did not pay them. "Mr. Bush, you have to admit it's a pretty remarkable thing for a man just to go to a hotel room door and open it and have a woman standing there and have sex with her," Brown said. "It was very unusual," Bush said.
Shows you can pick your friends but you CAN'T pick your relatives. Even the Bush family knows this!
Thanks Pearlene.
I was going to dig up the online dirt about Neil but decided to eat dinner first. You saved me the trouble.
Although Clinton's brother may or may not be mixed up in a scam on the people of The Republic of Georgia, Neil was responsible for fleecing Americans of their life savings.
Good job pearlene_scott1602! - I cut and pasted that for future references, Thanks. LOL
Any idiot (except maybe those at Faux News) knows that what you say in the last sentence sums it up.
Please, let us talk about Reagan's kids as well, or Guliani's relationship with his...silly, silly.
Gee the next thing we'll hear is that Hillary's third cousin five times removed had pre-marital sex and continuously drives over the speed limit. Nauseating. This just goes to prove that the right-wing fundies are deathly scared of Hillary and her plans for this country.
what bugged me about huckabee quoting something from the book of mormon about jesus and the devil being brothers, is the fact that you can go through the king james version of the bible and find equal amounts of nonsense. and plenty that has been edited out over the centuries. it's a case of my fairy tales are better that yours.
Doesn't Fox News present this woman miss Bruce as a liberal? So what does it say about the Bush family values when brother Neil Bush bilks the US taxpayers for a bailout of a savings and loan? Or that George W. was a notorius drunken driver?
"She knew who her sister-in-law was and the She knew who her sister-in-law was and the nature of that marriage. I don't think anybody should be surprised." -- TB
I think anyone who knows the nature of Tammy Bruce should be surprised by this attack. Her own books chronicle her vices and her destructive nature to herself and others. Tammy is a typical NeoCon -- she is so broken she is beyond repair and attempts to deflect it by spewing the garbage that she does. She desperately wants someone to take the fall for her failings.
This seems to be the case. T.B. and the other talkers who do nothing but try to tear down other people do a fair amount of projection.
Pay off the brother's debt??? so it wouldn't be a campaign issue? There is so much wrong with that idea, especially even having it.
