A January 10 column by American Spectator founder and editor-in-chief R. Emmett Tyrrell Jr. distributed by Creators Syndicate and posted on the conservative websites Townhall.com and HumanEvents.com was headlined: "Hillary Detumescent." Merriam-Webster defines "detumescence" (the noun form of the word) as "subsidence or diminution of swelling or erection."

In the column, Tyrrell claimed, "We are in the midst of a Clinton crack-up," and described what he called Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's (D-NY) "decline."

The column was also published on The American Spectator website with the headline: "They Crack Me Up."

Tyrrell is the author of a 2007 book on former President Bill Clinton titled The Clinton Crack-Up: The Boy President's Life After The White House (Nelson Current).

Tyrrell's columns are regularly published by The New York Sun, of which he is a contributing editor.

No Mr. Tyrell I predict you & the others out there working 24/7 to demonize/destroy Hillary are going to see your plan backfire. I'm a Conservative who just 2 weeks ago said I'd never vote for her. Now, I'm at least considering it.

I hope you do Jeter2 - And I’m sure it will take no time at all for her to prove to you that she is a class act and truly does have the interests of EVERY American at heart – despite the fact that the MSM is trying to convince everyone quite the opposite. I’m not quite ready to anoint her for sainthood, but once she is in office, and extends the olive branch across the aisle, it will be the Republicans who will be damned if they don’t reach out and grab it. Then no one will be able to say she hadn’t tried.

Nobody's trying to demonize or destroy Hillary. They're simply telling more of the truth about her than she is willing to tell.

I was feeling lachrymose and detumescent before Jeter posted that. What? I use those words all the time. Now I'm feeling rather exuberant and tumid.

PJ: I guarantee, Tyrell didn't have to look it up. It's a diagnosis he's been dealing with for years.

Well this is such a pleasant story - perhaps Hillary should send him a 5 pack of Viagra to show her appreciation. -:)

I wonder if Viagra would work for Tyrell? After all, his flaccidity is ideological (too).

EEuuuuhh,.....Ugh! I like to think I'm all for sex education, but I'm unsure of what about sex is being illuminated here. Checked the human events site. Up front Tyrrell expects to be called on a lack of humility. His response"Well to be honest, of all the virtues, humility is one that I simply cannot stick, I mean what's the point of it?" I find that appalling, given that this is the editor-in-chief of tha American Spectator. Whats the point of ethics, clarity of thought, the pain which is not affecting you or yours directly. Double Ugh!

Dang, Tex, you stole my thunder... :) Tyrell and his sleazebag henchmen have had it in for the Clintons for years. Nobody outside the right-wing universe pays any attention to the stupid little rantings of this stupid little man.

Haven't we all had enough of the Bush's and Clinton's. It is time for a big change. I feel personally that Hillary is not quite ready to take over as leader of the Greatest Country of the World. Give her at least 4 more years. Her 35 years experience is a mystery to me. If someone can tell me what it is I may consider going against everything I feel about the Clintons.

Clinton defenders, most reasonable people for that matter, have seen this hatred of the Clintons on display for the last 15 years. We have tried to say, "No, the Clintons aren't the divisive ones, it is their political opponents and media that are the divisive ones. " The Right, which then trickles into the MSM, has been saying the same things, year after year, and the people are finally disgusted. Left wing Democrats call the Clintons Corporate Democrats and the Right wing calls them Marxists. The truth is, neither of the Clintons are perfect, but Bill governed with better results than his Republican opponents could ever do, as the results speak for themselves. And I bet Hillary can produce the same type of effective government.
