SUMMARY: Discussing an Associated Press article about presidential candidates and their first cars, nationally syndicated radio host Michael Savage referred falsely to Sen. Barack Obama as "Barack Madrassas Obama." As Media Matters for America has documented, the allegation that Obama was educated in a madrassa has been thoroughly disproved.

On the January 10 edition of his nationally syndicated radio show, host Michael Savage referred falsely to Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) as "Senator Barack Madrassas Obama." Savage made the comment while discussing a December 10 Associated Press article headlined, "Presidential hopefuls and first cars" that "asked candidates to name their first cars" and also "look[ed] at some of their personal vehicles now." Savage said of Obama: "Illinois Senator Barack Madrassas Obama. His first car was his grandfather's Ford Granada. Now he owns a Chrysler 300C." As Media Matters for America noted, on the June 25, 2007, broadcast of The Savage Nation, Savage falsely claimed that Obama was "indoctrinated" by a "Muslim madrassa in Indonesia."

His comments on Obama followed remarks he made about the article's reference to cars owned by Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and John Edwards. He then added: "What bad taste these people have."

"Madrassas" is not Obama's middle name. Media Matters has documented that the false allegation that Obama was educated in a madrassa has been disproved by CNN, the AP, and the Chicago Tribune. On January 23, 2007, CNN reported that "[a]llegations that Sen. Barack Obama was educated in a radical Muslim school known as a 'madrassa' are not accurate." The AP reported on January 24, 2007, that the elementary school Obama attended as a child in Jakarta was "a public and secular institution that has been open to students of all faiths since before the White House hopeful attended in the late 1960s."

Talk Radio Network, which syndicates Savage's show, says that Savage is heard on more than 350 radio stations. The Savage Nation reaches more than 8 million listeners each week, according to Talkers Magazine, making it one of the most listened-to talk radio shows in the nation, behind only The Rush Limbaugh Show and The Sean Hannity Show.

From the January 10 edition of Talk Radio Network's The Savage Nation:

SAVAGE: Here's a puff piece from the Associated Press: "Presidential hopefuls and first cars." And so they went to all the candidates, and asked them to list their first cars and some of their personal vehicles. Now, when I read this to you, you'll see the puff piece written by the Associated Press, even a simple question like what was your first car can't be answered directly by Hillary Clinton. Even this she has to lie about or tell a little stupid story that you know is a lie.

Democrats. New York Senator Hillary Rotten Clinton: "She owned a 1963 Oldsmobile Cutlass with a battery she kept in her law school dorm on cold nights so the car would start when she needed it." Oh, get out the violin. That's like hearing that Al Gore lived in a trailer when he was young. "She now drives a Ford hybrid and Secret Service vehicles as former first lady." John Edwards, the shyster lawyer, started with a Plymouth Duster. Now owns a Ford Escape hybrid. Yeah, all right. Illinois Senator Barack Madrassas Obama. His first car was his grandfather's Ford Granada. Now he owns a Chrysler 300C. What bad taste these people have. New Mexico Governor Bill the Roadrunner Richardson: Secondhand Ford Mustang. Now he owns an official state vehicle and a Jeep Wrangler.

They've stepped up the sliming of my boyfriend Obama. These guys are going to get dizzy trying to keep up with attacking the Democratic front runner of the week; and those swift boat Obama e-mails that are making the rounds in wing nut world are disgusting. Obama simultaneously belongs to a Black separatist Secularist Christian Church whose primary concern is Africa and he's a Muslim in disguise whose primary concerns are the Muslim world.

That was a common problem in the Early '60s. Detroit was just switching over from generators to alternators, and it took a few years to work out the bugs.

I still wonder WHY these liberals seek to display their altruism towards nature in rather unrelated facts from their past. They are what they are now, no reason to paint themselves as environmentalists at conception, as if they where born with a wreath of olive and an Energy-star rating. i have to agree with Savage, these sob stories are cheap shots for the admiration of those dumb enough to admire them.

      Michael Savage is a bigot.

A religious bigot who panders to the slime that still are too stupid to shut him off.

He made his mark originally selling vitamin concotions, then found out that pandering to the lowest of the low (besides Hal Turner,) on the radio makes more money.

He is to radio talk shows the way Fred Phelps is to Christianity.

What pisses me off so much is these cheap low-life tactics these wingnuts continue using - day in and day out. The only redemption for it all is going to come this fall when they see how badly their trash-talking has turned off so many Republican voters and hurt their party to the point that they'll be jumping ship just to disavow themselves from the scum that has commandeered their party.

You are splitting an incredibly fine hair Solon, Pardon me for the slight mistake, evidently not so slight for the captious among us. I actually do not like to say "democratic", it gives the impression that the Dems are "democratic" and the Repubs are not.

I am not sure about DEMOCRATS being the largest party, but then again they tend to appeal to the lowest common denominator, the common masses are easily fooled.

"made up middle names for Dems IS so delusional"-Solon

I think when referring to somethings in plural form you may want to refer to them as 'are' rather than "is". Take a look at Juliajanes post, a republican would be as easily ruffled.

I am sure that you CAN dismiss every single view non-liberal as a machination of the "hivemind" that seems to follow you around, but this does tend to get redundant. It may be a sign of paranoia, or just a lack of imagination.

They told you to do it so you prefer to do it. The name of one party has nothing to say about the other party. Does Republican mean that Dems dont believe in a Republic? OF COURSE the Democratic party is the largest in the US, that isnt an opinion its a FACT, they APPEAL to those of us capable of independent thought and higher brain function. Which is what confuses your substandard brain atrophied from believing ONLY what you are TOLD to believe. I dont care how repetative my posts are. Reading you morons regurgitate the hivemind talking points dont raise to the level of engaging my imagination nor do they obligate me to think up shiny new and improved answers to the same old same old. But then if they had just said 'Savage calls the senator barack "maddrassa" Obama when in actuality his middle name is Hussein', they would not have that much to chew over, the entire article could be summed up in that one statement.

Actually, I think it may be relevant, it says a lot about this site that it would be shy to say the absolute truth, and it says a lot about those of you who consider it relevant. But then if they had just said 'Savage calls the senator barack "maddrassa" Obama when in actuality his middle name is Hussein', they would not have that much to chew over, the entire article could be summed up in that one statement.

I figure its Autopsychotic. Perhaps Bushlies. After stewing in his mommies basement for a few months over all the spankings he got here when he tried to sell his peculiar brand of abject stupidity and thick condescension, he came back for more. I am glad. It is amusing mopping the floor with the really stupid ones. It would get boring but Wes, Tommy, Bruce, and Jeter provide actual insightful posts from a conservative view to keep us sharp so we can take some time out for playtime too.

Perhaps I am pigheaded. I just love your infallibility on all matters, especially ones concerning me. We disagree on issues and that makes me pigheaded and I guess it would make you the only other perfect person other than Jesus Christ to ever walk the earth. You are a walking talking contradiction. You eagerely leap to invalidate someone who dispenses a viewpoint which is one inch right of Castro. You use name calling without discretion while espousing the liberal mantra of open mindedness. Seems to me you are the bigot. A big fat bigot. A bigot with a capital B. Perhaps you and your buddy Roundhouse can get together and rehearse your hypocrisy into a comedic coupling of idiocy. Darn! Too late for that. Oh well, keep trying. Perhaps your perceived indignation will allow for some originality in thought, or perhaps you will continue to entertain us with your semi-lucid limericks and insults hurled with your signature righteous arrogance. I'll expect the latter. Keep up the good work.

In any event I have noticed and I guess others as well, that you seem to be contrarian just for the sake of it, not based on merit of argument. That is my opinion. Oh and my opinion is also that you're a grumpy old man (but alas that's a state of mind that can be changed so there is hope for you yet) ;-)

I would assume that if it is your opinion that I am contrary for the sake of it and not merit of argument, then of course you would seem to be implying that any view, other than ones you agree with, are without merit. Alriiiiighty then.

I have in no way defended Finfarin's ideology about race. I just found it amusing that you would continually urge him to give an opinion only to then claim that you don't want to hear his opinion. That type of action appears to me to be engaging in "being contrary just for the sake of it, not based on merit of argument". In any event, my original dispensation of you was unwarranted in terms of being personal. I apologize. Perhaps I am too old and grumpy. I just think there is alot of attacking of opposite opinions at this site through personal insults. I am just as guilty as others, but I tend to do so in response. That is why you received my rather engaging diatribe of you. You felt it necessary to pile on with Roundmouth and call me pigheaded. Did you expect a submissive agreement of your name calling? Surely not. Nevertheless I do apologize for my earlier attack, truly. But you know, I wonder why it is that others don't come to the same defense when people are called morons, idiots, and having no functioning brain cells, etc, for having the audicity to put forth a different vierwpoint. Maybe it's not being contrary but simply seeing things differently. Or maybe looking the other way when when someone is attacked personally because you agree with the attacker is nothing but self rightous indignation. Maybe....just maybe.

That is quite ridiculous. You madam, are indignant to your actions. Are you really trying to imply that you don't engage in juvenile personal insults?? Are you trying to insinuate that you don't respond to others in a condenscending manner just because they put forth another viewpoint? Really???? You know better and for you to even try to paint this as nothing more than a rhetorical soliloquy on my part says much about your credibility. I mean really, what have you ever offerred here in terms of interesting disagreements? You refer to me as being pigheaded and then have the audacity to passively deny you engage in using insults? Wow! You are unique.

Perhaps you haven't noticed, but I have and I suspect others have as well, but you offer nothing here but sheepish agreement interjected with pseudo-intellectual posturing. That reply was for Roundmouth. He seems to love to ask others for facts to back up assertons unless of course he is the one making baseless arguments with ad hominem attacks. Then it's o.k. The fact that the right wing nuts are sooooooooo bananas about Obama's middle name has actually had the effect of making it grow on me.  It's like "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."  If the name Hussein (hope I spelled it right) can drive them to the brink of madness, maybe progressives should put up billboards all over the country that just say "Hussein" and we can watch them drive their cars into brick walls as they pull out their hair at the sight of the name on the billboard.

Savage is know for being very one sided when it comes to his arguements but whats the problem Obama simpy revealing his middle name? Savage simply thought it should be brought up, not to bring controversy but allow the citizens to know who they're voting for. I find it interesting that being in a post 9/11 country (similar to a Pearl Harbor) we all could care less that a runner for the presidency has a Muslim background. I like Baracks view on raising this country on its feet but I don't vote for people who walk away from the truth.

It's what passes for "intellectual banter" in narrow-minded right-wing circles. He's just copying Bob Grant's old schtick - just like Mark Levin, who also copies Bob Grant.

No new thinking - no new ideas - the hallmarks of conservatism....
