Scarborough on Giuliani: "I guess once you're called America's Mayor, you stay America's Mayor"

On the January 29 edition of MSNBC's Morning Joe, co-host Joe Scarborough introduced an interview with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani by saying: "Let's go right now to former mayor, former America's Mayor -- I guess once you're called America's Mayor, you stay America's Mayor -- and also Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani." Media figures have repeatedly touted Giuliani's reputation as "America's Mayor" following September 11, 2001, despite criticism over his actions before and after the terrorist attacks.

Media Matters for America recently released a video compilation of references to Giuliani as "America's Mayor" by Fox News anchors, correspondents, and contributors.

From the January 29 edition of MSNBC's Morning Joe:

SCARBOROUGH: Hey welcome back to the B-Line Diner right here in Orlando, Florida. We are at the center of things, center of the political universe.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI (co-host): Yes we are, with a big primary tonight and the Republicans, especially two of them, battling it out, neck-and-neck in the polls.

SCARBOROUGH: Well, they're neck-and-neck in the polls, but again, if you listen to what Tom Brokaw said to us after New Hampshire, you let the voters go first. Especially in a state like Florida where you've had almost half a million people vote early.

BRZEZINSKI: And, you know, there's someone else who might say that too.

SCARBOROUGH: Exactly. Let's go right now to former mayor, former America's Mayor -- I guess once you're called America's Mayor, you stay America's Mayor -- and also Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani. Thank you so much, Mr. Mayor, for being with us. How are you feeling today?

      Forget it Joe.

You don't even get to stay New York's mayor.

Joe's got it right. Once the invented labeling and narrative is set by the rightwing, it is supposed to be repeated as gospel forever.

Sueeld, there is a better chance of Imus coming back to MSNBC then Olberphony taking his own to task for misinformation. In other words, not going to happen.

This is off-topic, but I see that the House has passed this "bi-partisan" stimulus bill that gives the taxpayers back between 600-1200 dollars.

I just think this is a terrible idea.   A bi-partisan dog of an idea.

Sorry, just had to say it.

You and I both.  First country in the history of the world to have tax cuts in a time of war.

I, for one, will be putting that on my credit cards.  And it's funny, cuz I think that's what most people are gonna do.  And how that will stimulate the economy, I have no idea...

I agree Bruce, it's barely a band-aid. Most folks will use it to pay bills they already have, not run out to the Mall.

You're right Bruce, as much as I'd like, to run out and buy a $600 item with my rebate, it would probably be more prudent to pay for the last $600 item I bought and paid for with my credit card.

I like to think of it not as $600, but $1.64 a day. That's all it takes to persuade some of our fellow voters to vote (R) for lower taxes.

$1.64 a day. And I wonder what the average daily credit card interest is that's being paid by those same people. You know, the money that's going to these guys. The ones who are able to raise their rates to 30% or so on a whim now.

Yeah, it's a really, really bad idea.  Beside the fact that we simply can't afford the cut, there are other problems.  One, it seems to be mainly a gift to Wall Street in that it will disproportionately benefit the wealthy.  Two, this stimulus plan probably won't put a dent in the overall economy.  Three, there are better, much more efficient ways to stimulate the economy than a tax cut.

"it will disproportionately benefit the wealthy."

          Really? How so?

It doesn't really matter to me I won't get anything and I learned the value of saving and living debt free years ago. It's a shot in the dark but I am of the opinion that if you give a family of four $1,800.00 then they are going to spend it on something other than paying down debt. The rebate given in 2001 or 02' is a good example. Being in debt is a lifestyle choice in most instances (housing and transportation an exception). Living in debt is a horrible feeling and to continually grow your debt is irresponsible, IMO of course.

Mine will be going into mortgage escrow because my property taxes and insurance both just took a huge jump.  That's how I'm going to be 'stimulating the economy'.

Similar here, I'm in the process of paying down my mortgage a bit in advance of a refinance, so that's where my rebate is going.  So once again, how does this stimulate the economy ?

      IN THE MOVIE INDUSTRY....

Once you're labeled an EXTRA, it becomes very difficult to move up from there.

Giuliani: "I guess once you're called America's Mayor, you stay America's Mayor"... AND...

That means you'll never be President of the United States. RUDY FANS... I Told You So, and it appears McCain will benefit from Rudy dropping out. I doubt if McCain will adjust his issues to get Rudy's endorsement.

NOW... It's on to SUPER TUESDAY where in CA McCain's humanitarian immigration stance is favored among voters here. (From Polling Data)
