Citing Drudge headline, MSNBC's Brewer suggested Latinos would react negatively to Clinton campaign change
SUMMARY: While discussing the news that Sen. Hillary Clinton had replaced her campaign manager, MSNBC's Contessa Brewer asked Kathleen Kennedy Townsend: "[T]he Drudge Report has a headline that reads, quote, 'Adiós: Clinton's Top Latina Sidelined.' Are you concerned at all about the way Hispanic voters might interpret this shakeup heading into Texas?" Neither the Drudge Report nor MSNBC offered any reason why Solis Doyle's replacement as campaign manager might have anything to do with her being Latina or any reason why Latino voters might react in any way to the staff change.
During the February 11 edition of MSNBC Live, while discussing Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's (D-NY) recent decision to replace Patti Solis Doyle as campaign manager with longtime Clinton aide Maggie Williams, anchor Contessa Brewer asked Clinton supporter and former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend: "Today, the Drudge Report has a headline that reads, quote, 'Adiós: Clinton's Top Latina Sidelined.' Are you concerned at all about the way Hispanic voters might interpret this shakeup heading into Texas?" Neither the Drudge Report nor MSNBC offered any reason why Solis Doyle's replacement as campaign manager might have anything to do with her being Latina or any reason why Latino voters might react in any way to the staff change.
On February 10 and 11, the Drudge Report prominently featured the following:
As blogger Greg Sargent noted in a February 11 post at The Horse's Mouth, a February 11 New York Times article on Solis Doyle's replacement also cited the Drudge headline. From the Times article:
Some Clinton advisers rued the timing, noting that Matt Drudge referred to the switch on his Web site as the departure of the campaign's "top Latina" -- an emphasis on Ms. Doyle's ethnicity that Mrs. Clinton does not need as she heads toward a Texas primary on March 4 and tries to court the state's large Hispanic vote.
From the 1 p.m. ET hour of the February 11 edition of MSNBC Live:
BREWER: Hillary Clinton is campaigning in Virginia this afternoon. She's trying to round up support ahead of tomorrow's primary there. How will her strategy be different with a new campaign manager? Joining us now -- Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, daughter of the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy and a former Maryland lieutenant governor. She is a supporter of Hillary Clinton. It's nice to see you today, Kathleen.
TOWNSEND: Hey, it's great to be with you.
BREWER: OK, so, this weekend, the Clinton campaign announced manager Patti Solis Doyle would step aside and Maggie Williams would now take the helm of the campaign. Is there any concern about the timing?
TOWNSEND: You know, Maggie and Patti have been good friends for a long time. Patti's going to go and stay with Senator Clinton. It's good to have a pal when you're campaigning so hard across the country, and Patti's been that wonderful friend for many, many years. And Maggie will take over the hands of the campaign. I think she'll do a very good job. We've got a really good team in place. And we've got important primaries coming up in the next few weeks.
BREWER: But Kathleen, no concern about the timing of the change?
TOWNSEND: I think it's, you know, there's never a good time for any of those kinds of changes. But the fact is, this is really more about helping Patti spend a little bit more time with her family and also spending more time with Senator Clinton, who really wants her at her side.
BREWER: Today, the Drudge Report has a headline that reads, quote, "Adiós: Clinton's top Latina sidelined." Are you concerned at all about the way Hispanic voters might interpret this shakeup heading into Texas?
TOWNSEND: As I said, she -- Patti's going to be traveling with Senator Clinton. She'll be with her as she goes from state to state. I think it's -- I think it's much ado about nothing.

Her 'top Latina'?
WTF???
Was this a rank that Doyle held in Hillary's campaign?
Oh, and thanks again to the "liberal media" for propagating this ***t.
citing the drudge report...
because only liberals want to put labels on minorities. 1st this, 1st that, top this, top that...
sounds a lot better than saying she got dumped for doing a crappy job I guess?
Her firing had nothing to do with her ethnicity or HRC's relationship to the Latino community.
This is race baiting at its worst.
It's too bad Brewer let this sleazy piece of right wing propaganda to seep into her interview.

It's too bad Brewer let this sleazy piece of right wing propaganda to seep into her interview.
Right-wing propaganda? Oh please. Got proof Brewer is a right-winger? Isn't this more likely just more of the typical MSNBC bias against Hillary Clinton. A more reasonable explanation is that Brewer, like most of her fellow MSNBC colleagues is saying whatever they can to put a bad light on Hillary & her campaign.
Don't forget they swoon, fawn & gush over Obama, so why not stop jumping to conclusions about some vast right-wing conspiracy. Blaming everything on the right-wing is just paranoia.
"Right-wing propaganda? Oh please. Got proof Brewer is a right-winger?"
"Blaming everything on the right-wing is just paranoia."
'OH PLEASE' YOURSELF.
Got proof that Johnny said that Brewer is a right-winger?
Johnny clearly meant that since it is from Drudge, it's sleazy right-wing propaganda, and that Brewer is simply giving him credibility by passing it along.
He did not even come close to implying that it morphed from news to sleazy right-wing propaganda the moment it got into Brewer's hands.
Apparently not so much to some.
Johnny clearly meant that since it is from Drudge, it's sleazy right-wing propaganda, and that Brewer is simply giving him credibility by passing it along.
Your first mistake is assuming if it's from Drudge it's right-wing propaganda. Drudge highlights headlines/stories from various sources.
Secondly, if she was passing along this clearly ANTI-Hillary B.S. it's because MSNBC's agenda of pushing Obama & slamming Hillary is no secret.
Also it's not the right-wing dividing the Dem/Libs over race or gender...it's happening from within.
Brewer is just doing what many on MSNBC have been guilty of doing....Hillary bashing. Her source is irrelevant.
"Your first mistake is assuming if it's from Drudge it's right-wing propaganda."
It was Johnny's assumption. I was clarifying it for you because you distorted it. As far as my assessment, Drudge is using his website to propagate a race-baiting smear of a left-winger. In my opinion, that makes Drudge's headline right-wing propaganda on its own merits.
"Drudge highlights headlines/stories from various sources."
He did not highlight a headline, he made up his own headline to link to a story.
"Her source is irrelevant."
The credibility of your source has a direct bearing on your own credibility. Brewer sourced Drudge's race-bait headline, not the story he linked to. She sourced his headline to raise the question of whether or not Doyle's replacement will have repercussions for Hillary with Latino voters.
Why the **** would anyone source Drudge for this??? He obviously can't stand Hillary. He is obviously not a latino voter. He simply has a popular website, but popularity does not mean credibility.
Kos dumped this same load of BS on his DailyKos web site. He makes a big deal about her being a Latina, and he falsely claims that Solis-Doyle was ousted, "The knives inside the Clinton campaign were out for Patty Solis Doyle, and her enemies finally succeeded", when in fact Solis-Doyle herself said she stepped aside for personal reasons.
"I liked Patty. It's rare to have high ranking Latinos anywhere in politics, and rarer still to see Latinas in positions of real power and influence."

Hardly the same load of bs as Drudge.
As far as "The knives inside the Clinton campaign were out for Patty Solis Doyle" goes I doubt you'll ever find a statement like that in any official statement from any campaign.
I can imagine, though, as Kos states, once things didn't go as easily for the HRC campaign as was predicted the infighting and finger pointing began and Solis Doyle, because of her position, was the focal point.
Here's what Kos says about that, "discontent over her leadership has leaked into news reports ever since Clinton's Iowa defeat"
As Kos also states the handwriting seemed to be on the wall once Maggie Williams joined the campaign.
Kos is a very vocal Hillary-basher, as are most of the people who participate on his message boards.
He wrote just what I stated. Your post doesn't refute mine.
Btw, the Kos headline is "Clinton campaign manager quits", but she hasn't "quit". She's staying on as an adviser.
Here's her bio on Wiki, not sure if it's totally factual:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patti_Solis_Doyle
She is the youngest child of six siblings. Her parents, Santiago and Alejandrina Solis, are illegal immigrants from Monterrey, Mexico, and she grew up in the Chicago area where she attended Northwestern University. Her oldest brother, Daniel Solis, is Chicago alderman for the 25th ward.[1]
Doyle entered politics working on Richard M. Daley's campaign for Mayor of Chicago. Later she went with David Wilhelm (Bill Clinton's campaign manager) from Chicago to Little Rock, where she became Hillary Rodham Clinton's assistant. She is credited with coining the term "Hillaryland", the close circle of Clinton advisers, dating back to 1992.[2]
She is executive director of HillPac and ran Clinton's campaign for the United States Senate in 2000 and her 2006 re-election campaign. She had a central role in laying the groundwork for Senator Clinton's presidential run,[2] and served as campaign manager from the inception of the campaign[3] until she stepped down on February 10, 2008, remaining a senior adviser to Clinton.[4]
Doyle was the first Hispanic woman to manage a presidential campaign.[5]
She is married to Jim Doyle, a Harvard Law School graduate.
