SUMMARY: Keith Olbermann awarded the runner-up and "bronze" honors in his nightly "Worst Person in the World" segment to Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck, respectively -- to O'Reilly, for asserting that the question of whether global warming is natural or man-made is "all guesswork," and to Beck, for asking, "Odds that [Sen.] Barack Obama is the Antichrist?"

On the March 5 edition of MSNBC's Countdown, host Keith Olbermann named Fox News' Bill O'Reilly the runner-up in his nightly "Worst Person in the World" segment for asserting, as Media Matters for America noted, that the question of whether global warming is natural or man-made is "all guesswork." On the February 27 edition of his Fox News television show, O'Reilly read an email from a viewer asking, "Bill, you stated in the dinosaur piece that global warming is cyclical. Does that mean the current scare is natural, not man-made?" As Olbermann noted, O'Reilly responded: "Who knows, Scott? It's all guesswork." O'Reilly added: "I'll leave the definitive word to the deity."

Olbermann also gave CNN Headline News' Glenn Beck the "Worst Person" "bronze" for saying on the March 4 edition of his program, as both Think Progress and Media Matters documented: "There are people -- and they said this about Bill Clinton -- that actually believe [Sen. Barack Obama] might be the Antichrist." He then asked evangelist John Hagee, founder and pastor of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, who recently endorsed Sen. John McCain for president: "Odds that Barack Obama is the Antichrist?" Hagee responded: "No chance."

From the March 5 edition of MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann:

OLBERMANN: The bronze to Glenn Beck asking his guest, John McCain's pro-apocalypse televangelist John Hagee, quote, "They say 'Glenn, you in the media, you've got to wake up. Barack Obama's making people faint and cry and everything else. And he's drawing people in.' There are people -- and they said this about Bill Clinton -- that actually believe he might be the Antichrist. Odds that Barack Obama is the Antichrist?"

Why do you ask, Glenn? Worried about somebody giving you competition?

Our runner-up: Bill-O, answering letters from the only people dumber than he is -- his viewers. This one from Scott, asking if global warming is natural, not man-made: "Who knows, Scott? It's all guesswork." Yes, sir, Bill. For you it is all guesswork.

When Beck said "there are people"  he meant himself.......

On his radio show in Tampa he was always talking about an anti-christ and/or his religion.

(probably why he got invited to a meeting with Bush...who of course God actually talks to)

However, it is true that many christians are waiting with bated breath for the AC to come into power, lol, bring peace and then do a little crap fest on the world whilst they look down from raptured heaven smirking with an "I told you so" look on their faces.

Since this thread is gonna fill up with the why is this here and jeebus, not again stuff I think this is a good place to insert a completely off topic note about the GOP ripping off the GOP. Guess this guy ran out of other people to steal from!

        Snoop, for your information:

On 2/29, MMFA did an article on O'Reilly comparing Huffington to the Nazis. There were 46 comments.

Then on 3/4, MMFA did an article on the Olbermann echo, his awarding BOR a WPITW award.  25 total comments, but there were only 16 different people commenting.

My opinion:  This post will not likely "fill up" with people asking "why is this here?"  Just as Tammy Faye put on too much make-up until she died (when nobody was paying attention), MMFA will be doing rehash posts on KO criticizing BO even when few pay attention.

Oh, don't worry.  It's the slow time of year.  People will be back in droves when the election REALLY starts to heat up.

Ken should draw the line at O'Reilly and not direct his scorn at O'Reilly's viewers.  This is the second time I remember him doing it.  If he really wants to compete and win over more viewing public, he should start by not alienating any of them.

Maybe you're right, but my complaint is that Keith shouldn't simply state the obvious. That's too easy...  ;>)

You may be right, but I doubt Olbermann is going after old conservatives for his viewing audience. We know that is what O'Reilly has a majority of. Also, does anyone find it interesting that for such an independent thinker O'Reilly always names someone a "pinhead" on his show who is "liberal". How come Rush or Coultier or Cunningham is never a pinhead? What a tool he is.

I can barely tell the difference anymore between O'Reilly & Olbermann.

Keith is quickly becoming what he once despised....

And before anyone asks. Listen to him bash Hillary every night.

        Jeter

Olbermann has never been my favorite but his unwarranted attacks on Senator Clinton have been unacceptable. No "progressive" would say she is engaging in dirty politics.  Olbermann is scum in my books and MSNBC is as bad as FOX.

I don't understand what posters' opinions on Olbermann have to do with MMFA's topic here.

MMFA covers media sources which echo things that MMFA has already said. MMFA told us about O'Reilly's offenses, and now they're telling us that another mainstream media source is also documenting that same offensive behavior.

What difference does it make what we might think of Olbermann himself? The topic is that O'Reilly and Beck were offensive.

Keith knocks it out of the park again, he once again proves he's about the only one on t.v. that sticks to the facts.

Thank you, Mr. Olbermann.  You are indeed a breath of fresh air, a messenger of truth, and hope for those of us who don't trust the media.  My question would be:  why does the media allow the likes of O'Reilly, Beck, etc.?  Is this a sign of our culture 'going down'?

      Again...thank you!

Beck should have asked John Hagee if the Anti-Christ would suscribe to Mormonism.

Just heard on the radio within the past week that a group of climatolgists(i ythink it was climatolgists but my memories foggy) stated that if sun spot actiivity doesn't increase the earth will begin a cooling period within the next few years. Gore o any of these people don't know with any certainty what;s causing global warming, what;s causing it, how long it will last if it lasts and how bad it wil be, if it's bad al all.

Yeah. Sounds like a well deserved worst person award, from the least respected, least watched, and least credible news outlet on TV.

You're posting as proof a study in which you don't even know who did it, what they said, and what their conclusions are, yet you have the nads to bash actual scientific, peer-reviewed studies that have very clear premises and conclusions?

No wonder you call yourself a variant of LOL. Your laughter must ring through the halls of the asylum at night.

I'm a newcomer here to Media Matters, and I'm wondering if this is an endorsement or criticism of Olbermann? I know I sound incredibly naive.
