SUMMARY: On Imus in the Morning, while discussing the April 16 Democratic debate, Don Imus said, "I thought Senator [Barack] Obama was on the defensive most of the night. But they're both sissy boys or sissy girls, or whatever. Because they talk big when they're out on the campaign trail, wolfing on each other." Charles McCord interjected, "But then," and Imus continued: "And then when they show up at the debate, they fold up like a couple of cheap lawn chairs. I mean, I don't understand that. And he's almost a bigger pussy than she is."
During the April 17 edition of Imus in the Morning, host Don Imus asserted that Sen. Barack Obama is "almost a bigger pussy than" Sen. Hillary Clinton. While discussing the April 16 Democratic debate, Imus said he thought that co-moderator George Stephanopoulos was "great" and that the debate was "fine," adding: "I thought Senator Obama was on the defensive most of the night. But they're both sissy boys or sissy girls, or whatever. Because they talk big when they're out on the campaign trail, wolfing on each other." News anchor Charles McCord interjected, "But then," and Imus continued: "And then when they show up at the debate, they fold up like a couple of cheap lawn chairs. I mean, I don't understand that. And he's almost a bigger pussy than she is."
As Media Matters for America noted, on the March 7 edition of Imus in the Morning, Imus asserted that Clinton won her campaign for a U.S. Senate seat due to "a sympathy vote," adding, "She came here, everybody felt sorry for her 'cause her fat ..." At that point, guest and Fox News host Alan Colmes interjected, asking, "[W]hy did she get re-elected?" Imus continued: " 'Cause her fat, stupid husband was getting BJs from the poor little intern there in the Oval Office."
Despite his being fired by MSNBC and CBS in April 2007 -- his show is now syndicated by ABC Radio Networks and simulcast on RFD-TV -- Imus continues to attract prominent guests. From April 1 to April 17, Imus hosted Sen. John McCain, NBC Washington bureau chief Tim Russert, CBS anchor Bob Schieffer, Washington Post media critic and host of CNN's Reliable Sources Howard Kurtz, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, and Congressional Quarterly columnist Craig Crawford.
From the April 17 edition of ABC Radio Networks' Imus in the Morning:
IMUS: Five minutes after the hour here at the Imus in the Morning program, on the radio all over the country and on RFD-TV, RFD-HD, and prime time. Craig Crawford, from out where the buses don't run, will be on here in a little bit. George Stephanopoulos, who co-anchored the debate last night. And what I saw of it, I got home a little late, but -- of course, I mean, it's obvious I like him or he wouldn't be on the program all the time --
McCORD: True.
IMUS: -- but I thought he was great.
McCORD: He was.
IMUS: You know, I keep thinking, I mean, he's been doing this for 10 years. You know, This Week with David, not with David Brinkley, but George Stephanopoulos.
McCORD: Right.
IMUS: But he's gotten really good.
McCORD: Yup.
IMUS: Charlie Gibson, however. What is the deal with the glasses down on the end of his nose?
McCORD: I don't --
IMUS: What is this thing? I don't know. I don't have my regular glasses [unintelligible], so I have to wear my dark glasses because I don't -- I left the other ones somewhere. But I mean, he's tedious. Anyway.
McCORD: It's his attempt to look very professorial.
IMUS: Stephanopoulos I thought was great, and the debate was fine. I thought Senator Obama was on the defensive most of the night. But they're both sissy boys or sissy girls, or whatever. Because they talk big when they're out on the campaign trail, wolfing on each other.
McCORD: But then --
IMUS: And then when they show up at the debate, they fold up like a couple of cheap lawn chairs. I mean, I don't understand that. And he's almost a bigger pussy than she is.
BERNARD McGUIRK (executive producer): Whoa.
McCORD: Wait a minute. Wait a minute.
IMUS: And then another -- and then I was on the treadmill yes-- this is kind of funny. I thought it was funny. I was on the treadmill, but I was watching Fox News. And -- but I didn't have the sound on because the sound makes me nervous.

Yeah, real toast his ratings in New York are up 20%. Senators like Dodd and Kerry still appear as do many media elites like Russert , Stephanopolis, Scheefer, Brian Williams, Maureen Dowd, Tom Friedman.
Yeah, real toast his ratings in New York are up 20%.
That's only because WABC's signal is far stronger that WFAN's. It's no indicator of the quality of the program - afterall, this is the same station that broadcasts Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Mark "Dog Poop For Brains" Levin.
I did a Google search to find out what I could about Imus's rations. What I found were many articles from 2005 and 2006 saying that his ratings were in the basement and severa writers wondered how he was staying on the air.
So it looks like the only way for his rating to go was up....
Yeah, but somedy this will be the top rated show.

I betcha Mr. Obama could beat the formaldehyde outta this walking corpse imus...
I betcha that if the circumstances were right, and the two of them were beyond the reach (and protection) of the Law, I betcha this cadaver imus wouldn't call Mr. Obama that name to his face...
And if he did, I betcha that skeleton imus would spend the balance of the night spitting out what's left of the few rotten teeth in his head.
help.
Can't find it.
Didnt stop Obama from appearing on Imus show in 2006 to pawn his book.
You use the word "pawn." I do not think it means what you think it means.
Why don't you put this into context. Last Year when MMFA discovered Imus saying the NHH statement about Rutgers the entire Country was outraged and he was subsequently fired from Mess-NBC and WFAN radio. But after 8 months he was back with a better radiio Station and a rather new but well watched RFD-TV.
Barack Obama was on his program. But when this happened he was the first to say he should be fired and would never go on his show again. Here is a man (Obama) who justifies all the good work his Reverend Jeremiah Wright said by using facts of his whole body of work, though Reverend Wright said "GD America" while preaching.. While throwing out Imus for 3 stupid words that cost him his job and not putting into context his full body of humantarian work.
Finally, Imus has praised Obama and said many a time that he thought he wouldn't care if Obama became President. Anything is better than Hillary Clinton. He found Obama refreshing and new. So here we go again regarding Imus saying a standard word on any station you watch. But because he was talking about an African/American Presidential candidate our friends here at MMFA think it is important to point this out.
If you don't like what he does then don't watch or listen. Simple remedy. But he is listened to by more people now and revered by more People now since returning to WABC 770AM then when he was on WFAN. WFAN by the way has lost 15 Million dollars in revenue since his release. Final ratings are not out till a month from now for the first quarter. But all indications are he draws more listeners then Curtis and Kuby ever did. And his sponsors have returned.
If you have a problem with that. Sorry you lose.
No we don't, we get occasional bits of breathlessness like yours.
And we get a place to say someone stinks like a condemed limburger.
Win, win as far as I can see.
This is what the "liberal" New York Times has on their front page today.
That Obama is weak.
Obama is "on the defensive". No mention of the outrageous conduct of Gibson and Stephanoplolous.
Wow what a target , so what MMFA is saying is because he was fired the first time he can never work again. So I guess when Joe Torre was fired by the Mets in 1981 he should have never worked again.

"Joe Torre did not use a racial slur against innocent young African American women.
So when are they going to fire/retire Al Sharrpton for doing worse in the same vein?
Al Sharpton does have one

Bob, you really like Imus don't you? I guess since Finarfin is our resident Savage apologist, you can be our resident Imus apologist.
And on what he actually said, he should have never said the P word. That's just not right.
To each his own. I find him similar to Sominex
Do conservatives have the comedy gene? Based on your post, I think not!
I disagree with Imus. His characterization is his own, but the debate last night and the inordinate amount of time dredging up these irrelevant "scandals" where Obama is concerned should make ABC News anything but proud.
And now we hear that Stephanopolous may have taken his cues from recommendations from Sean Hannity, that is frightening, and not only lazy, but scurrilous and uncalled for.
I guess Obama found out what he will face in the fall should he become the nominee, distracting crap like this to avoid substance and issues discussion.
Obama has an uphill climb if he hopes to elevate anything beyond Rovian style politics, and the Washington insiders who just can't stop chomping at this political divide and pouring salt on the uberpartisan wounds that I believe, he would like to heal and move beyond.
And Clinton eats it up like a favorite meal she has enjoyed since at least 1992 nationally......it's what they live for.
Good luck Barack Obama........and the rest of us.
Tommy, I feel like holing up in a bunker somewhere and living off of potted meat till Nov. 5 (or whenever the election is actually over.) If you're down, bring two cases of whiskey and some zombie repellent, I'll provide the potted meat. ;)
But yeah, you're right, last night was atrocious. I mean, at least 50 minutes without a single substantive question, are you kidding me?
Is potted meat like Spam? Because I don't care who calls me an elitist, I can't eat that stuff. Can we sub beef jerky instead?
And gin, please?
Ooh, I just smell Gin and it makes me sick to my stomach...I have to make gin and tonics with a clothespin on my nose. (let's just say I had one too many bad journeys into the bottom of a Tanqueray bottle)
Ever had vienna sausages? That's potted meat, just not in wiener form. But I'm down with beef jerkey too, just no slim jims, it has to be the real beef jerkey.
I hate Gin. It smells like a Christmas Tree. I like the smell of Christmas Trees, but I wouldn't want to drink one ;-)
I wouldn't have phrased it that way at all, (and I don't listen to Imus.) But I brought up that exact point a day or two ago.
I couldn't believe it when I heard Hillary say, "Yes. Yes. Yes" to whether Obama could beat McCain. I bet her handlers had a coronary.
Imus's crude commentary aside, what he said was basically that Obama & Clinton tear into each other on the campaign trail, then play relatively nice when sharing the stage. To him that makes them both wimpy cowards. Clinton, in his opinion, the worst of the two.
But of course Imus would rather see a mudslinging fight at these debates, so that's his reasoning.
But that does not mean Imus is a raging right winger.
I agree, he's not a rightwinger, raging or otherwise. Nor a leftwinger, raging or otherwise. And he's been a longtime favorite of as many Democrats as he has Republicans, Liberal & Conservatives. Other media figures from both the left & right have been guests.
Imus is what he is. Crude. Some find him entertaining.
Exactly Jeter.
Internet media outlets for conservative misinformation — news or commentary that is not accurate, reliable, or credible and that forwards the conservative agenda — every day, in real time.
A lot of the stuff mentioned on MM is fluff, like this one. Then people scream 'let's discusses the issuses'
Ya really think Obama sounded defensive? Wonder why, jerk-off? Nothing but rightwing smears, sleights and misrepresentations were the topics. At least Hillary didn't have to bring up the whole 'bitter' bs. Those media pukes did her and McCain's bidding for them. And suppose Obama comes out slugging, what's the narrative you would have us belie then, little Donny? "That Barrack is too angry, he was like a gang banger in a drive by." Go piss up a rope, Imus.
Instead of talking about putting rust belt folks to work in a green economy or how to bring political progress to Iraq so our soldiers can come back home, we get lapel pins and Rev. Wright. This bs doesn't bring us closer to sensible healtcare solutions, it doesn't tell us how we can help working people stay in their homes or the best way to fix the broken VA.
When are they gonna let these candidates go into a big time tv spotlight and talk about the things that matter to me?
Obama needs to face some pressure before given the chance to lead the greatest country on earth. If he can't handle questions from a talking head in a suit, how the hell is he going to handle Iran, North Korea, Russia and Venezuela? Poor wittle baby can't take the heat? You'd figure after the lashing he probably gets from his bitter, angry wife that he'd be tough enough to take some hard questions from a cracker azz cracker.
Those gotcha questions last night tell us nothing about how either candidate would handle talking to world leaders.
How do you debate someone who makes a stupid comment for which there is no debate of which you can get into with him? Just a reminder. We love outside opinions we liberals. Guess what? We don't have to agree with them. Guess what else? When someone says something stupid, regardless of who said it, we tend to call them out for it. Imus using the "P" word was just dumb, and it sounds dumb, that's the point of it.
And anyway, do we have to go through again of WHY this isn't a 1st amendment issue before you bring it up?
I dont understand the criticism here. I was just being funny like Imus. In EXACTLY the same way. He thought it was funny when Obama was called a pussy so why isnt it funny when I call him names. You of course are being ludicrous saying I am griping about insults. I never do that. I just return serve. I do plenty of insulting.
It is a shame MMFA doesn't recognize a joke and spends all this time and space to report on a comment by Imus which we all know was meant to be funny. Tomorrow he will be ripping on Hillary or McCain. It is a joke, folks.
And speaking of "comedians", where is the detailed outline of what Bill Maher said about the Pope? Now THAT was totally uncalled for and repulsive.
Maybe we can start calling him:
Imus McDouchestein.
how'd that idiot get back on the air?
nice hat. no, on you it looks good. really.
what a dicktard.
Well, that certainly was edifying.
I would be willing to bet that that is the first time since her mother made her go out and stand up to the kid who was hitting her that anyone has ever called HRC that particular epithet.
Between Hillary and Imus? In any kind of a battle my money would be on HRC.
LOL
that!" Here goes. Almost everyone can agree that Imus is merely a clown and a most rude one at that, but nobody can say he is a "journalist" or a "pundit". He is a comic. He has a following (a large one, or ABC would not pay him big bucks) made up of people who find him entertaining, as witnessed by several posters. With this in mind, let us examine the far too many other entertainers in our media. Bill O'Reilly jumps to mind immediately. What about Savage? However any intelligent consumer of the MSM considers them there is a HUGE portion of the the stupid (oops, mentally challenged) population who believe they are listening to the NEWS or a serious examination of the daily happenings. Imus, Billy O., and M. Savage are COMEDIANS who ply their shtick on the air and tube. Jon Stewart NEVER fails to remind his fans that he is a comedian. Bill Mahr is a bit more problematical. He would LIKE to be considered a "journalist", but he won't be. The great Don Rickles' whole persona is to insult everyone within sight. He is nothing like that privately. I would hope that Imus and Bill, et al, are good men in private. We'll never know.
Your entire argument falls flat, because even though you think all of those guys are comics, they don't think that they are. They don't promote their programs as funny, or parodies, like Stewart with the Daily Show, or The Colbert Report. They tout their shows as hard hitting journalism and analysis. Same as Imus.
That's the problem. They're not comedians, but they sure do sound like comedians.
a nasty, dirty talking guy who demeans people at the drop of the hat and he should not be allowed on the airways owned by the people of the United States. - mari2j
Are you proposing government-controlled talk radio? The FCC has enough power as it is.
Are you suggesting that government - via its tentacle called the FCC - should be in the business of portioning out political/social commentary?
