SUMMARY: Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy gratuitously used Obama's middle name and echoed a false suggestion by Sen. John McCain that Obama supports raising taxes for middle-income Americans by claiming, "Under a Barack Hussein Obama administration, you will wind up with higher taxes." In fact, Obama has pledged to establish a tax credit for families.

On June 9, Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy told viewers, "Under a Barack Hussein Obama administration, you will wind up with higher taxes," gratuitously injecting Obama's middle name and echoing the false suggestion by Sen. John McCain that Obama supports raising taxes for middle-income Americans. Obama has, in fact, pledged to establish a tax credit of up to $1,000 for families, offsetting payroll taxes, and to roll back the Bush administration's tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.

Doocy's reference to Obama's middle name recalls its frequent invocation by conservative commentators, falsely suggesting that Obama is Muslim. Indeed, Doocy's co-host Gretchen Carlson previously has said that the name "is [repeated] because the connotation is that Barack Obama is a Muslim potentially." Carlson, Doocy and co-host Brian Kilmeade were among the hosts publicly criticized by Fox News' vice president for news, John Moody, for repeating the false claim that Obama was raised a Muslim and attended a madrassa. Moody said in a January 29, 2007, New York Times article, "The hosts violated one of our general rules, which is know what you are talking about. ... They reported information from a publication whose accuracy we didn't know." Doocy later clarified that Obama did not attend a madrassa, but notably did not apologize for repeating the false claim.

From the June 9 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends:

DOOCY: Meanwhile, today -- this morning -- remember the old slogan, "It's the economy, stupid"? Well, today, Barack Obama is going to kick off his economy tour. He's going to be talking about what he would do if he were president of the United States to turn the economy around.

Meanwhile, the John McCain campaign has already said, look, Barack Obama is a guy who throughout history has raised taxes. Under a Barack Hussein Obama administration, you will wind up with higher taxes.

I wouldn't be surprise if Steve Douche will steal Ann Coulter's favorite "B. Hussein Obama" quip to scare voters and spread divisiveness.

I wouldn't be surprised if he did.  Now that we're heading into the general election these fools and Faux in general will say anything they can think of to try and bring Obama down.

This Doocy analysis is nearly word for word a question I just answered about an hour ago....... pathetic!

You know, I personally dislike both McCain & Obama's tax proposals.  They keep talking about the wealthy, and tax credits for families, and seniors, etc.  But what are they going to do for single, middle class people - or do they all the sudden not count and fall into every loophole.  What about those recent college grads making 50k/yr, who are single, and non-homeowners yet.  They get screwed in each and every way - minimal tax write offs, and no family to claim for a deductable.  Yet, a higher federal tax rate.

Thanks Mr. President, whoever you will be...thanks for NOTHING.  God, I hope my little sister has common sense to stash that rebate check and not listen to either of this political idiots.

Barack Obama will reduce government spending by ending this silly war.  That way, your children (or your little sister's children) won't inherit a $10 trillion national debt, like they would with McCain in charge.

        That's $10,000,000,000,000.00

Doesnt matter the size of the debt.  The bottom line is that if the funds dont go to one thing, they'll go to another.  They will never just decrease your taxes because they dont need the money for certain things anymore.  Pork barrel projects and a proposal for woodstock museum are perfect examples of that.

"Doesnt matter the size of the debt."--Columbus

They've robbed us without a gun.  Savings (unless well invested against the falling dollar) over the the last seven years, are worth a lot less in actual value (not number of dollars) than they were seven years ago.

Also the interest paid every year on the national debt goes up with it.

            Columbus,

That seems like a ridiculous notion. I fear you are minimizing how much money we have, are, and will spend in that damn desert over there. Right now we are talking around 740,000,000 per day. Now, you think about that amount along with how the President has asked for 87 to 100 billion several times over the past 5 years. Tell me how in the world one can whine about programs like welfare costing too much after digesting the cost of this war? The bottom line is that pork spending (as bad as it may be) is not bankrupting this nation....but the Iraq war is. Our disasterous policy in the Middle East has this nation tits up and taking on water. First, budget deficits and trade deficits are primary causes of the devaluaiton of the dollar. We can certainly link budget deficits to the insane policies of the past 7 years. Under the Bush administration the budget deficit is half a trilliion and the trade deficit is a half a trillion. That's ONE TRILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT. The Iraq war has obliterated our budget. We can't spend over 700 million dollars a day in the damn desert while cutting taxes here at home. So, we know that the Iraq war has caused a considerable budget deficit which has devalued the dollar. Now let's add the reality that our war in Iraq has essentially de-stabilized the middle east causing the oil market to turn bullish. Futures traders have taken in to account the piss poor value of the dollar along with the instability in the middle east and as a result you pay $4.00 for a gallon of gas among the other harsh economic realities that trickle down economics cooupled with a war have given us. Sad but true.

I am certainly open to being swayed on this issue. In fact, I would welcome an alternative POV as to how the Iraq war and our current Middle East policy has helped this nation. Tell me how this war has done anything positive for your wallet. I know it's done wonders for the wallets of the CEO's of big oil and defense contractors, but, how has it helped you?

Thanks for the Economics lesson Chris. I doubt that most voters understand how all of these things are linked and are the results of our policy of war and more war in the Middle East.

A few months ago, during a presidential press conference, a reporter asked GW what can be done to prevent the price of a gallon of gas from reaching $4.00 a gallon. Bush laughed and made comments suggesting that the reporter was Bushing him (pulling facts out of his ass).

At the time anyone who buys gas knew that $4.00 a gallon by summer was inevitable. But GW, like his father before him, was so out of touch with Americans, that he laughed off the thought of a future that wasn't rose colored.

Today we're looking at $5.00 a gallon within the month. There are reports of it hitting $6.00 a gallon before Labor Day.

I was listening to a reporter covering a story about the effects of higher gas prices on California drivers yesterday. While he was talking to the drivers lined up at the pumps about how they feel about paying $4.40 for a gallon of gas. Before he was done interviewing the drivers, the station had increased the price to $4.50 a gallon.

Some economists are insinuating that we may be headed back to the days when air travel was for the wealthy. Predictions are that no one will be able to afford the fare to fly home for the holidays or for Disney Vacations.

Hopefully, it won't come to that, but unless America wakes up it might be even worse.

I bet you could build a few thousand Woostock museums with one day's funding of the war.  And the total war funding could have bought health care for everyone as well as free education for all.  Wouldn't that be better than 4,000 body bags and thousands more injured for life?

But no, by being so filled with fear and hate, you supported this war at the outset.  I didn't.  Therein lies the difference.

This is ridiculous, that Democrats have to perennially labor under this charge/suspicion... it's not like trying to manage a military occupation of a Middle Eastern country, or like meeting any of the U.S.'s National Security concerns, or even of trying to "de-politicize" a corrupted U.S. Intelligence community... it's Accounting!

Reducing the Federal Budget is not life and death, or invasion and occupation, or even the lies that spies tell (or if they told the truth, then the lies Bush and Cheny told, in the name of spies)... it's Accounting!

You'd think that Democrats so fond of thinking themsleves intelligent, would realize this truth, and take it upon their mathematically advantaged brains to meet this challenge, and reduce the Federal Budget, and relieve themselves of this tired and boring old charge/suspicion they labor eternally under.

Does anybody know who Rep. Jeff Flake of Arizona is? This man is awesome: every single spending Measure that comes before the House, I swear Rep. Flake finds at least three great ways to reduce spending in the Measure, without defeating it's work or purpose... and he then introduces his Amendments, and stands up in the House, and explains them and fights for them... the man is awesome!

The Democrats need to draft Rep. Flake into their Party: or else they need to start seeding and training their own generation of Rep. Flakes, if for no other reason than to relieve themselves of this tired and boring charge/suspicion, of being frivilous and wasteful of the American taxpayers money.

Here is the reality DEM. Over 700 MILLION DOLLARS PER DAY is being spent on our war in Iraq. We have cut taxes while drastically increasing spending. that has devalued the dollar. Our policy in the middle east has de-stablilized the region and that coupled with the de-valued dollar has caused speculators to bid up the price of oil. In the end, everything is turning to sh!t because fo this war. I hope you are happy.

Under REAGAN and under GW BUSH, the SIZE of government increased dramatically. SPENDING increased dramatically. DEBT increased astronomically.

It is a MYTH, a LIE, an UNTRUTH that "Republicans are for smaller government and fiscal responsibility". They SAY it, and the sycophantic MEDIA perpetuates this absurd claim, but it is demonstrably UNTRUE in historical FACT.

Republicans are TERRIBLE for the economy. Their record is clear, they just choose to ignore the record and opt for yet another BIG LIE. And the Media is compliant in promoting the LIE.

There are a couple of narratives that the GOP will pound us with over the next few months. If you want a preview go to Frontpage Magazine where calling Obama a "marxist" is already in full swing.

Granted they can't make up their minds whether Obama is a sleeper terrorist or a sleeper communist agent, but they are building a foundation to start pushing their poison up through the MSM.

All you need is some kook to write a book detailing Obama's connection to the communist party or something (it doesn't matter how far flung or ridiculous). Then FPM and other surrogates right articles about the book. Then drudge links to the article...in fact there will be enough articles to assure that any google search is dominated by right-wing blogs. Then they are ready for Fox News. Break the news that "people are talking" on a Friday and you got weekend of on screen text "Obama a Marxist?"

An Obama administration will mean higher personal income taxes for the majority of americans, higher corporate taxes which will be passed on to all americans in higher prices and make it more difficult for our corp. to compete globally, resulting in a higher trade defecit and potentially forcing more companies to outsource overseas or just relocate . Raising the cap gains tax will be disastrous for the stock market, negatively impacting pension funds for millions of working class americans. You can spin, argue, and deny it, but that will happen with a democrat admin. and democrat congress. There won't be a common sense approach to our energy needs.Dems will not permit developement of our oil, enable new refinery construction, encourage nuclear energy developement. Nope, instead they will enact disastrous cap and trade regs resulting in a tax on consumers in higher prices for goods and services, including higher heating  and electric bills. That is just some of  "the Change" that Obama is promising. Sounds to me like another CARTER term.Remember Carter's disastrous foreign policy record? Elect Obama and it'll be a lot worse.
