MSNBC spliced Gore speech to remove context for "dogs and cats" comment, Morning Joe hosts then mocked
SUMMARY: MSNBC's Morning Joe aired an excerpt from Al Gore's endorsement speech of Sen. Barack Obama, in which Gore said, "After the last eight years, even our dogs and cats have learned that elections matter." Joe Scarborough then stated: "[H]e lost me with the dogs and cat thing." But MSNBC edited out the part of Gore's comments that provided the context for his "dogs and cats" remark.
On the June 17 edition of MSNBC's Morning Joe, MSNBC aired excerpts from former Vice President Al Gore's June 16 endorsement speech of Sen. Barack Obama, but removed the context for Gore's comment, "After the last eight years, even our dogs and cats have learned that elections matter." Following the clip of Gore's "dogs and cats" statement, host Joe Scarborough stated, "[H]e lost me with the dogs and cat thing," later adding, "I think that was a shark-jump too far." But MSNBC edited out the part of Gore's comments that provided the context for his "dogs and cats" remark. Specifically, Gore said: "If you bought poisoned, lead-filled toys from China or adulterated medicine made in China, if you bought tainted pet food made in China, you know that elections matter," before adding, "After the last eight years, even our dogs and cats have learned that elections matter."
From Gore's June 16 endorsement of Obama as aired live on that day's edition of CNN's Larry King Live:
GORE: In looking back over the last eight years, I can tell you that we have already learned one important fact since the year 2000. Take it from me -- elections matter. If you think the next appointments to our Supreme Court are important, you know that elections matter. If you live in the city of New Orleans, you know that elections matter.
If you, or a member of your family, are serving in the active military, the National Guard or Reserves, you know that elections matter. If you're a wounded veteran, you know that elections matter. If you've lost your job, if you're struggling with your mortgage, you know that elections matter. If you care about a clean environment, if you want a government that protects you instead of special interests, you know that elections matter.
If you care about food safety, if you like a T on your BLT, you know that elections matter. If you bought poisoned, lead-filled toys from China or adulterated medicine made in China, if you bought tainted pet food made in China, you know that elections matter. After the last eight years, even our dogs and cats have learned that elections matter.
From the June 17 edition of MSNBC's Morning Joe:
SCARBOROUGH: But you know, last hour, Mika [Brzezinski, co-host] asked me how the world would have been different if Al Gore had been elected president. Al Gore talked about that last night in his endorsement of Barack Obama. Let's listen.
GORE [video clip]: In looking back over the last eight years, I can tell you that we have already learned one important fact since the year 2000. Take it from me -- elections matter. If you think the next appointments to our Supreme Court are important, you know that elections matter. If you live in the city of New Orleans, you know that elections matter.

WILLIE GEIST (co-host): Hmm. Yeah.
BRZEZINSKI: Wow.
SCARBOROUGH: Yeah, he lost me with the dogs and cat thing. I think that was --
BRZEZINSKI: But it was good.
SCARBOROUGH: -- a shark-jump too far.

Maybe Republicans have the same problem with us as we do with them (understanding the "humor"). I, like most Democrats - and the audience, thought it was hilarious!
I've always loved Al's dry sense of humor. I mean, unlike "Bomb, bomb, bomb - bomb, bomb Iran" you have to actually first listen to some intelligent content to "get" Gore's jokes - and he can deliver a line as good as most any straightman in the business.
Sense of humor? Humor is to Gore as eloquence is to GWB. ;-)
And if Media truly Matters, why isn't MMFA reporting the insipid comment by Tennessee Democratic Party Executive Committee member Fred Hobbs saying about Obama “I’m not sure we know enough about him. He’s got some bad connections, and he may be terrorist connected for all I can tell. It sounds kind of like he may be.”
If a Republican said this there would probably be a lawsuit filed. However, Democrats can say things like this and the go ignored by the press. I searched for "Hobbs" here and got zero matches.
I guess Media only Matters for LIberal American? What a crock. At lieast MMFA has the cojones to let opposing viewpoints speak their mind here, unlike that hypocritical dork Kos.
Fred Hobb's stupid remarks certainly were reported on Fox and other media. Hobbs has subsequently wrote that "My statements to various Nashville media were wrong and offensive." Hobbs said he was brainwashed by Fox but the tinyness of his brain is prpobably a better explanation.
The mission of Media Matters is to point out and correct "conservative misinformative" in the media. You don't get to change what Media Matters does.
"And if Media truly Matters, why isn't MMFA reporting the insipid comment by Tennessee Democratic Party Executive Committee member Fred Hobbs saying about Obama 'I’m not sure we know enough about him. Except lots of Republicans have been spewing this garbage and none of them have been sued.
Um, cannon,
I hate to be the one that needs to remind you of this, but this site MMFA is dedicated to exposing conservative and right-wing misinformation!
If a democrat or liberal says something wrong or is misinformed it won't be exposed here....... why, you ask?
As I said..... this site is dedicated to conservative right-wing misinformation.
If you want to expose democrats and liberals, go start your own website exposing it.... I'm sure you'll have dozen of daily readers in about six years.
Funny that I never saw your moniker until today and it so similar to mine while your inane thoughts are vastly different. How much time did it take to dig up a local small-time Dem Party quote that you could use to paint the entire Demacrtic Party? Do you think there might be a difference between this guy and a party candidate for the office of the president?
Are you a stooge mimicking liberal commentors using their sign on names to confuse readers? Get a life, you moron.
Oh,, this is a comment for the other cannonba11. You know, the fake one.
Wow... didn't even notice your moniker. But like a good lib you've resorted to name calling. How nice. I've been a member here for about 2 years, I'm certainly not a hack or troll trying to make others sound silly. They do that just fine on their own.
And there IS a nice site that addresses lots of liberal insanity. Hot Air . com.Perhaps you could visit the site and read some of the articles. A mature adult takes the time to understand both sides of the issues and has a mind that is open to debate. If you dismiss opposing content you are only doing yourself a disservice.
What bugs me about the site is that the hypocracy is mid-numbing. Liberals and Democrats ore granted so many passes for what they say and do, but when Conservaitves and Republicans do something that the left considers wrong they jump all over it. There have been numerous examples of how MMFA has jumped on topics that were just silly and perce?ed as whiny. Perhas the organization should change its name to Media Matters for Liberal America?
Yet, I remain a member because as Sun Tsu said "Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer." It's important for me to understand how liberals thinks and act so that I can prepare myself and my family to survive in the politically insane world we live in. TO suppress debate (like Al Gore re: warming) is to admit defeat. You should WELCOME the chance to defend your positions, not stifle those who disagree.
You're a hypocrite. You say that people should look at both sides of the issue and keep an open mind, open to debate the issue at hand...
But in the next breath, you quote Sun Tzu and imply that liberals are the enemy.
Typical conservative "logic". Nice.
I think you're very incorrect about when liberals and democrats do something wrong, that liberals and democrats don't jump all over it. I've seen it happen. Example, what's that guy's name from LA? Jefferson the representative? The one where they found a bunch of bribe money in his freezer. He is a democrat, and I heard my democratic friends talk about sending him off to jail for the crimes that he has probably committed. I also heard the actual democratic leadership in Congress strip him of his committee appointments, and also ask him to resign (they can't force him to resign until he has been convicted of something).
Turn this around for Foley. The republicans defended him until the very end, when they couldn't defend him any further.
I think you're mixing up your parties here my friend. The republicans love to give passes to everyone. Democrats tend to chastise their own if and when they think that they've done wrong.
"At lieast MMFA has the cojones to let opposing viewpoints speak their mind here, unlike that hypocritical dork Kos."
Actually Daily Kos has lots of space for debate and there are often long threads of people with opposing viewpoints conversing with each other. But it seems that like most of those in a rush to condemn the "ultra-liberal, America hating, leftist, socialist, Marxist, fascist" Kos, you didn't have the time to actually check out the site before making things up about it.
Or you went there and through out some factually challenged, insulting flame bait and found yourself trollrated into oblivion by the consensus of the users there. That's market forces, bub.
Just because your definition of "humor" is "Blue Collar Guy" (hardly "blue-collar" unless that word is now a synonym for "redneck")- and your version of "sports" is NASCAR - and your version of "family entertainment" is "WWF" - Don't assume you are the connoisseur of humor.
My point was that an Al Gore joke is usually on the more intellectual level - you know, ones you actually have to THINK about to even get? - vs. the Hee-Haw jokefest type humor that is passed around conservative circles.
I'd say that a 90% effective way of identifying a conservative in a group conversation is to bring up a South Park or Family Guy character. The ones who have no idea are usually the ones with an "R" after their names.:)
So now Fox quotes a Dem (who later retracted his remarks) as saying "he may be terrorist connected for all I can tell. It sounds kind of like he may be.”
I'm shocked (NOT) that the "for all I can tell" and "kind of like" in these comments aren't put under a microscope like Hillary Clinton's - "as far as I know"?
On your final comment... You're not supposed to like MMFA. The truth hurts, so it's good to know you're hurting. But why do people like you keep coming on here crying about the one-sidedness of MMFA??? It's not as if they are trying to mask it - such as is done at Fox News. Their mission statement explicitly reads that they are dedicated to disseminating "conservative misinformation" - so don't be so shocked when this is mostly what you find here!
You know
the only spot worth watching on Morning Joe is "news you can't use."
It was better when Joe was in Florida.
when i heard the cats and dogs remark, i nearly fell off the sofa with hysterical laughter. i had to hold my ribs. Boy, Al Gore is another Henny Youngman.
I guess you didn't read the article. But then I don't think you ever do.
That being said, however, Al Gore has a finely honed sense of humor. While not Henny Yougman, he is often not only inspirational and profound, he is funny. The press tried to paint him in a certain way and some people (who are so inclined anyway) just beleived it.
And he is not wooden, but thoughtful. Another canard from the media. My husband is the same way. He actually listens to you, considers what you say and then responds. It takes some time, but I appreciate his devotion to actually listening in the first place before he shoots off his mouth, unlike these shrill talkers such as Joe Scarborough.
That is about as fine a short caricature of Al Gore as I have ever read, Julie - and coming from a woman's perspective, for me, adds to its sincerity. If every fool that I've ever heard bash Al Gore could be forced to read this post, I bet it could even make a few converts - the few that might actually be open minded enough to realize that their perceptions have been about as off for Al Gore as they were for GW Bush!
ZOING!
Did you hear that?
That was the sound of the point going right past sandss981580.
Go play somewhere else kiddo. The adults are talkin' here.
Please, educate us.
What did he lie about specifically?
For starters, the ice shelves are actually growing again, not shrinking. Earth has escaped from several ice ages long before humans were here. Mars and Jupiter are getting hotter yet there are no coal plants on them (as far as we know). He has distored numbers (ncluding incorrectly intepreting the effect of carbon into the atmoshphere). The scientific data presented in his powerpoint-turned-Oscar have been repeatedly proven inaccurate. His hypocracy is stunning given that he will make profits from his carbon credit business that will make the oil company 5-9% margins look like peanuts.
I don't know how the man can sleep at night. But then again, with the entertainment world kissing his green arse so much...
"make profits from his carbon credit business"
Al Gore's business doesn't sell carbon credits. Why do rightwingers have such trouble with facts?
And the "ice shelves" aren't growing. We are on pace to be near or even break the record low in Arctic sea ice set last year.
For starters, the ice shelves are actually growing again, not shrinking.
Right off the bat, you're wrong. As evidence, I present an article from the Christian Science Monitor, a publication that is no way considered part of the so-called "liberal drive-by media". Boldface emphasis is mine:

Antarctica's Wilkins Ice Shelf eroding at an unforeseen pace
Scientists say the breakup is a harbinger of what's to come if the region continues warming.
By Peter N. Spotts | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor
posted March 28, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. EDT
A crumbling ice shelf along the West Antarctic Peninsula has become the latest polar poster child for global warming.
This week, researchers in the United States, Britain, and Taiwan released images of long stretches of ice shearing away from the shelf. What started with the loss of a relatively thin, 26-mile-long iceberg at the end of February cascaded into the loss of 160 square miles of ice by the end of last week.
Its erosion won't affect sea levels. Like an ice cube in a filled cup, it's already in the water. And the handful of glaciers that feed into the shelf, called the Wilkins Ice Shelf, are small. Still, researchers say, the event represents a marker. The region has seen unprecedented rates of warming during the past 50 years. Two of the 10 shelves along the peninsula have vanished within the past 30 years. Another five have lost between 60 percent and 92 percent of their original extent. Of the 10, Wilkins is the southernmost shelf in the area to start buckling under global warming's effects.
"Wilkins is a stepping stone in a larger process," says Ted Scambos, a glaciologist at the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colo., who discovered the breakup in satellite images. "It's really a story of what's yet to come if the mainland of Antarctica begins to warm."
So far, the shelf has lost about 3 percent of its total extent, which covers an area more than twice the size of Rhode Island and is up to 820 feet thick. But all that sits between the shelf's new seaward edge and a vast expanse of much weaker shelf ice is what researchers dub a "thread" of strong ice. And Wilkins's erosion is happening faster than researchers projected.
"In 1993, we predicted that this was going to be a vulnerable ice shelf," says David Vaughan of the British Antarctic Survey. "But we got the time scales completely wrong. We were saying 30 years at that time, and now it's happened within 15."

cann0nba11:
For starters, the ice shelves are actually shrinking, not growing. You're wrong. Mars and Jupiter are absolutely irrelevant. The scientific data Gore uses has repeatedly been shown to be CORRECT. Do you even understand what "peer-reviewed" means? Look at the data. Look at the science. As you apparently do not understand the science yourself, look at the papers published and REVIEWED BY SCIENTISTS QUALIFIED TO UNDERSTAND THE DATA. Papers that are NOT peer-reviewed do not present facts, their conclusions are dictated by those who paid for the studies. Gore doesn't sell carbon credits. Where do you get your talking points?

Take Hagee any day? Feel free to give him your $$. He's laughing all the way to the bank.

Hahahahahahahahahaha... Wait... Hahahahahahahahahaha...
Better take Hagee soon because anyday he might get RAPTURIZED!
Better take Hagee soon because anyday he might get RAPTURIZED!
Nah - Hagee will wind up sharing a room in hell with Jerry Falwell and D. James Kennedy.
And John Hagee makes millions of dollars using Jeeeezus and pusing for the rapture (wherein the whole world perishes, just for the whims of a few money- and power- hungry "christian" folk.
I'm sure your G-d is oh so pleased.
>when i heard the cats and dogs remark, i nearly fell off the sofa with >hysterical laughter. i had to hold my ribs.
I guess my reaction wasn't the same as yours. I watched my favorite cat convulse and go into a coma from eating one of the tainted pouches of cat food from China that our Bush-appointed guardians let slip through in the interest of expedience and a fast buck.
I had to rush her to an emergency room and unfortunately, due to internal bleeding that wouldn't stop (that's how rat poison works when it's ingested) I had to make the decision to put her to sleep.
Instead of rolling over with laughter, I was moved that someone considered their plight and mine.
May your convulsions always be from laughter.

he lies about global warming, inventng the internet, being the subject of a love story, etc. you can find more here. http://www.gargaro.com/algore.html
not just lies, but stupidity.
He flunked out of Vanderbilt Divinity School.
If I thought you cared about the truth, I would educate you. But even if I told you what the truth is behind you're lies, you would just come up with new lies and keep on hating, so I'm not gonna bother.
But suffice it to say, Al Gore never said he invented the Internet, but he was certainly one of the ones responsible for its funding in the beginning.
And so on. But you really don't care.
Wow, that's quite a source to back up your accusations.
Your foolishness is beyond belief:
Even your source says Gore's claim was that he created the internet, not invented it. While it's certainly true that the claim of creating the internet is a stretch by Gore, to take it as him meaning he invented it is just plain stupid. Gore sponsored and co-sponsored the legislation that made the internet we all use today possible. That's historical fact. (RE: High Performance Computing and Communication Act of 1991)
What else does your source tell us?
No, Al didn't claim that he and Tipper were the inspiration for "Love Story"
What does your source NOT tell us?
Anything about Al Gore's claims regarding climate change.
You are a stupid dishonest liar. But keep posting. Let people see what kind of retarded morons, like you, voted for GW Bush.
Me1st., Now that you mention it, I believe that Sen. McCain feels the same way about our President...Saw one of McCains' TV ads about be an idiot/fool or something like that if you romantisize war. Didn't our beloved President just say something like that?
And for you sandsoftime, could you find that info for me? You seem to know where to get the good stuff.
Wow...
What a thrill! Did you have your long raincoat on? I hope you mopped up afterwards!
Congrats to you Sandman. Glad you are an art enthusiast. It is a fine "elitist" hobby. Where can I get one of those? At least she did run away screaming and how cute was she?
Now you are romanticizing about Bush. The Cons are just a loving bunch. In past posts, I was unfairly harsh on the opposite side(and informed of such) but now, after hearing the new "Love Story", I am going to "weather" my bias, get on the "internets" and send money to the George Bush Defense Fund.
*od Damn DDDemocrat Party, *od Damn all Liberal Thinking and *od Damn all Thinking. Just got my new portrait of KKKarl Rove.
...and then sheepishly said, well i guess i have the wrong house. she was right about that.
Yup. She was looking for a house where intelligent people live....
Well, I'm hoping Al Gore is just a one-day endorsement, and that he quickly returns to his electricity bulging amped-up Tennessee mansion, and off the national stage....
Tommy -
I guess you were too busy posting "Why-Is-This-Here?" messages here at MMFA to see the reports that Al Gore has made his home a model of energy efficiency:
Gore makes Nashville home more 'green'
NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- Al Gore, who was criticized for high electric bills at his Tennessee mansion, has completed a host of improvements to make the home more energy efficient, and a building-industry group has praised the house as one of the nation's most environmentally friendly.
The former vice president has installed solar panels, a rainwater-collection system and geothermal heating. He also replaced all incandescent lights with compact fluorescent or light-emitting diode bulbs -- even on his Christmas tree.
"Short of tearing it down and staring anew, I don't know how it could have been rated any higher," said Kim Shinn of the U.S. Green Building Council, which gave the house its second-highest rating for sustainable design.
Gore's improvements cut the home's summer electrical consumption by 11 percent compared with a year ago, according to utility records reviewed by The Associated Press. Most Nashville homes used 20 percent to 30 percent more electricity during the same period because of a record heat wave.
Shinn said Gore's renovations are impressive because his home, which is more than 80 years old, had to meet the same rigorous standards as new construction. How to turn your home green »
"One of the things that is tremendously powerful about what the Gores have done is demonstrate that you can take a home that was a dog, an absolute energy pig, and do things to correct that," Shinn said.
<more>
http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/12/13/gore.home.ap/index.html
Wz, Your article is from last October, below is more current information;
"Despite adding solar panels, installing a geothermal system, replacing existing light bulbs with more efficient models, and overhauling the home’s windows and ductwork, Gore now consumes more electricity than before the “green” overhaul.
Since taking steps to make his home more environmentally-friendly last June, Gore devours an average of 17,768 kWh per month –1,638 kWh more energy per month than before the renovations – at a cost of $16,533. By comparison, the average American household consumes 11,040 kWh in an entire year, according to the Energy Information Administration"
Not only is it lame, it's not true. And again Tommy didn't provide a source for his plagiarized material. If he had, all the readers could have discovered for themselves that there was not a report by some independent agency that he had used more electricity since the changes.
http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080618/NEWS0201/806180403/1009/news01
Gore spokeswoman Kalee Kreider scoffs at the claim. The Gores' utility bills have gone down 40 percent since the green retrofit, she said, thanks largely to their new geothermal heating and cooling system, which cut their natural gas bills by 90 percent.
Geothermal systems rely on the stable temperatures of the earth or groundwater beneath a home to power its heating and cooling systems. The Gores' system heats and cools the home and its hot water heater, Kreider said.As for the increase in the electric bill, Kreider said that the three-year renovation on the home wasn't complete until November, so it's a bit early to attempt a before-and-after comparison.
SCARBOROUGH: -- a shark-jump too far.
That pretty much sums up Joe Scarborough's career.
Perhaps we're underestimating ole Joe. Could it be that his use of the shark-jumping idiom (a really untelligible image if you don't know its history) is a subtle slap at the silliness of the whole segment? Could it be that Scarborough's fair?
BTW, across the Pond an idiom for common knowledge (used quite often by politicians in argument) is, "even the dogs in the street know." Perhaps, when they find out about that, MORNING JOE will attack Gore as elitist, for knowing things that "regular Americans" shouldn't.
You simply cannot underestimate the ability of some "news people" like Scarborough to thoroughly misunderstand reality.
Were they actually seeing the clip of Gore cold or had they planned their stupid remarks in some sort of put down humor? The latter I think.
You know it's coming. Anyone who thinks Hillary would have been a stronger candidate than Obama only needs to watch the visceral reaction to Al Gore among the Knuckledraggers. They have no trouble dredging up old lies to dump on him... just imagine the reservoir of bullsh*t they had waiting for Hillary.
Without a good morning with Joe
There would be more real news and we'd know
that Al Gore is a hero
Lies about him a zero
Republicans like a low blow.
Oh Al - why have thee abandoned us?? Your intellectual wit just flies over the heads of the conservative media, but we know how funny you really are. I revel in what could have been with these intellectual jabs flying out at Presidental addressed, news conferences, and State of the Union speeches, laughing as the cons totally missed your clever humor. Think of the world leaders clamouring at your feet trying to discern if you were trying to save the world, or just being funny? Ha, ha, ha.
Instead we are left to choose between a republican who doesn't remember on which side of an issue he stands from day to day, and a democrat who can't remember how many states are in the union and sees dead people at his campaign rallies. You were so close once before Al, please reconsider. Come join the race - it's not too late. After all - if you could convince the world to grant you a peace prize based on junk science and fear mongering, think of how your charm and intellect could sway world leaders to lay down arms and join together in one-world socialism.
There is still time Al, your country needs you NOW.
"and a democrat who can't remember how many states are in the union"
If you're going to spout ridiculousness, at least admit that he was joking about a long primary campaign season, or do you really believe he doesn't know how many states there are? That is beyond insanity to believe any such thing.
Remember D, conservatives have a disdain for intelligent, educated people (most of whom happen to be democrats/liberals/progressives). It's important for conservatives to tear down those they just cannot intellectually comprehend.
Al Gore has been a patriot for this country, and a servant to the world. The cons don't have anything on him, save for a handful of gaffes. Since they don't have anything juicy to slam him on, they strike at his intelligence. It's a typical con tactic.
or do you really believe he doesn't know how many states there are
No - nor do I believe he actually saw dead people at his Memorial day rally - even though he said he did.
"On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes -- and I see many of them in the audience here today -- our sense of patriotism is particularly strong."
So are you saying that the injured are not "fallen heroes"? They are also casualties of war my friend. You know what he's saying here, it's only your desire to be deliberately obtuse that keeps you repeating these falsehoods.
You obviously do not respect America enough to understand the purpose of it's national holidays.
Memorial Day is a United States Federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who perished while in military service to their country. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War, it was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of any war or military action.
Nice touch DS. Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase daming with faint praise.
Your impacted mindset on globalwarming will eventually find you on the far fringe of public opinion. Enjoy the view.
"There is no significant man-made global warming," John Coleman, a trained meterologist and founder of the Weather Channel, told the conference. "There has not been any in the past, there is none now and there is no reason to fear any in the future. The climate of Earth is changing. It has always changed. But mankind's activities have not overwhelmed or significantly modified the natural forces."
That's what bugs Al Gore and his fellow travelers most – having to accept the proposition that man proposes, and nature – and nature's God – disposes. We're just not as important as some of us think we are, and that smarts
The view Looks pretty good from up here!
Dems,
Maybe if Mr. Coleman provided some scientific research, or referenced some study or provided some data to back up his claims, he might be credible. Since he didn't, who cares what he said.
As Funnymanpants has asked many, many times.
Provide some peer reviewed research that disputes the claims that man has accelerated the warming trend and then you have an argument.
You can't because none exists, therefore your foolish claims are simply made up and stupid!
ask your cat or dog if they are concerned about the source of their food. i'd like to know what they say.
it reminds me of a photo of a cow that had fallen into some muck and was being rescued. the caption said the other cows milling around were looking on with concern. i'm certain. gore is just a fool.
Sands wrote:

Most of us know that cats and dogs don't talk. But when they get sick from bad food, we kind of assume that they don't like it. So who again is the fool.

Sadly, Sands' lack of sympathetic and empathetic capabilities explains why he rolls over in laughter at the loss of dogs and cats near and dear to us. Maybe his parents never let him have a pet. Maybe all he knows about the world is what he sees on Morning Joe, and most of his context has been deleted.
Marty
we live in a bubble. it's called an atmosphere and without it we're in trouble. we can't live anywhere else, this is it.
nature has, over many many years, balanced itself, heating, cooling... it's worked.
about a hundred or so years ago came the industrial revolution. the amount of stuff we're putting into this atmosphere has nowhere to go, nowhere at all. and we're not only pumping this into the air but we're ruining the balance (deforestation, etc.).
so what i'm hearing you people say is that nature will somehow say "HEY! there's humans here and they're messing up my system! I better rebalance myself right now!". is that right? millions of years of balance in this bubble and suddenly nature will right itself because we're pumping immense amounts of crap into the air?
or are you saying that it has no impact? this bubble we're filling with pollutants will just keep on going as usual? is that what you believe?
i'm just curious how you address this, how do you, besides straight out denial, not see this as an issue? or is it because you simply hate al gore?
throughout our history science has always been right. it makes some wrong turns but it's always right in the end. no religion, no agenda, no propaganda, no amount of wishing can stop it. i'd listen to it if i were you.
cats kill songbirds
why, yes they do. but most migratory population issues are habitat loss and degradation related. what is your point?
and about that bubble... your take?
my point is there are too many people. if you're worried about the birdies so much get rid of the people, they're doing far more damange (to the birds and other living things) than cats.
and that bubble we call home?
From Sands:
>just consider, for every cat that dies how many songbirds live. cats kill 60 million songbirds every year, and no one cares, least of all cat owners.
And then:
>my point is there are too many cats. actually, it's the feral cats that kill the most songbirds. i guess they don't eat too much chinese cat food.
Hey Sands, if you want to fall back on increasingly stupid and lame defenses for the first atrocious thing you said, go right ahead; it just reveals the unsympathetic, intellectually dishonest, and casually sadistic personality that characterizes most of the trolls that inhabit this place,--waiting for something mean and stupid to say--just for the thrill of irritating those that see things differently. I’ve been wasting my time reacting to your garbage, and I’m done with you; you are hopeless.
