Limbaugh: Democrats will not say "We honor your service" to troops returning from Iraq

SUMMARY: Rush Limbaugh asserted that troops returning from Iraq "will not receive anything from the Democrat [sic] Party along the likes of 'Job well done. We're proud of you.' And this is highly distressing. Not only will Democrats not say, nor leftists, say to any returning troops from Iraq, 'Good job. Job well done. We honor your service.' No, they did just the opposite. They sought to secure defeat of the U.S. military in Iraq." In fact, many Senate Democrats recently honored the service of U.S. troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
On the July 2 edition of his nationally syndicated radio program, Rush Limbaugh asserted that troops returning from Iraq "will not receive anything from the Democrat [sic] Party along the likes of 'Job well done. We're proud of you.' And this is highly distressing. Not only will Democrats not say, nor leftists, say to any returning troops from Iraq, 'Good job. Job well done. We honor your service.' No, they did just the opposite. They sought to secure defeat of the U.S. military in Iraq."
In fact, many Senate Democrats recently honored the service of U.S. troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan in floor statements supporting the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2007, a bill to expand education benefits to veterans that was introduced by Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA), provisions of which were incorporated into the Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2008, which was passed by Congress and subsequently signed by President Bush:
- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (NV) stated: "Democrats are committed to honoring troops in deeds and not just words. This call should be a cause for all of us. Passing this new GI bill will send that message loud and clear."
- Sen. Barack Obama also stated: "We have asked so much of our brave young men and women. We have sent them on tour after tour of duty to Iraq and Afghanistan. They have risked their lives and left their families and served this country brilliantly. It is our moral duty as Americans to serve them as well as they have served us. This GI bill is an important way to do that."
- Sen. Hillary Clinton stated: "I rise to support strongly the GI bill that has been proposed in the Senate. I thank Senator Webb for his hard work on this bipartisan legislation, as well as Senator [Frank] Lautenberg [D-NJ] , Senator [John] Warner [R-VA], and Senator [Chuck] Hagel [R-NE] -- each one a veteran who understands, deeply and personally, the importance of honoring the service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform. ... It is time we started acting as Americans again. We are all in this together. Let's send this legislation to the President and let's serve the men and women who served us.
- Sen. Dianne Feinstein (CA) stated: "I am a strong supporter of our troops in the field. They have done a tremendous job under difficult circumstances."
- Sen. John Kerry (MA) stated: "All of us -- and I would underscore, all of us -- are incredibly grateful for the remarkable sacrifices our troops have made in Iraq. They have done whatever we have asked of them, and they have served brilliantly."
In addition, during a June 30 speech in Independence, Missouri, Obama said that "the sacrifice of our troops is always worthy of honor":
OBAMA: For those who fought under the flag of this nation -- for the young veterans like Vince, the young veterans I meet when I visit Walter Reed; for those like [Sen.] John McCain who have endured physical torment in service to our country -- no further proof of such sacrifice is necessary. Let me also add that no one should ever devalue that service, especially for the sake of a political campaign, and that goes for supporters of both sides. We must always express our profound gratitude for the service of our men and women in uniform. Period. Full stop. Indeed, one of the good things to emerge from the current conflict in Iraq has been the widespread recognition that whether you support this war or oppose it, the sacrifice of our troops is always worthy of honor.
In the speech, Obama also called the "fail[ure] to honor those veterans coming home from Vietnam, something that remains a national shame to this day."
Additionally, in a May 12 speech in Charleston, West Virginia, Obama said that our troops "deserve our admiration, respect and enduring gratitude" and stated: "It's time to honor the full measure of sacrifice of our troops, and to prepare for the cost of their care." From the speech:
OBAMA: One of the saddest episodes in our history was the degree to which returning vets from Vietnam were shunned, demonized, and neglected by some because they served in an unpopular war. Too many of those who opposed the war in Vietnam chose to blame not only the leaders who ordered the mission, but the young men who simply answered their country's call. Four decades later, the sting of that injustice is a wound that has never fully healed, and one that should never be repeated.
The young men and women who choose to serve and are defending the very rights and freedoms that allow Americans to speak out against government actions we oppose, they deserve our admiration. They deserve our respect. They deserve our enduring gratitude.
Now, at the same time, we must never forget that honoring this service and upholding these ideals requires more than saluting our veterans as they march by on Veterans Day or Memorial Day. It requires marching with them for the care and benefits they have earned. It requires standing shoulder-to-shoulder with our veterans and their families after the guns fall silent and the cameras are turned off. At a time when we're facing the largest homecoming since the Second World War, the true test of our patriotism is whether we will serve our returning heroes as well as they've served us.
[...]
OBAMA: There is so much more that we need to do in this country. It starts with being honest about the sacrifices that our brave men and women are making. For years, this administration has refused to count all of our casualties in uniform. In Iraq alone, tens of thousands of troops who were injured or fell ill have not been counted in our casualty numbers, going against the military's own tradition from past wars. It's time to stop hiding the full cost of this war. It is time to honor the full measure of sacrifice of our troops, and to prepare for the cost of their care.
Obama and Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) introduced the Dignity for Wounded Warriors Act of 2007, legislation "aimed at ensuring injured soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan receive the care they deserve," after The Washington Post exposed poor conditions for wounded service members at Walter Reed Army Hospital in 2007. Obama said of the measure: "Caring for our returning heroes is one of the things we can still get right about this war, and that's why the deterioration of the conditions at Walter Reed is both appalling and unacceptable," He continued: "The brave men and women wounded at war should receive the best we have to offer and the highest quality of care, and that's why this legislation would cut red tape, improve service, and require frequent inspections of all active duty military hospitals."
Limbaugh made his remarks after discussing his recently renewed contract with Premiere Radio Networks and Clear Channel, which will reportedly pay him about $38 million a year for the next eight years. Limbaugh has reportedly said he also received a "nine-figure signing bonus." Limbaugh said of the deal: "It's actually a cut, because I was projecting much more. And since I didn't get what I was projecting, I'm looking at this not as a raise, but as a cut, because I was expecting twice this. What I am going to call this is the Contract for America 2008. I know that the liberals and others will resent this -- the class-envy crowd -- but don't resent it; I earned it." Limbaugh also said: "I wanted to tell you what this means to me. ... [I]n terms of my mind and my heart, you know, we all, in this audience, you and I, we cherish this country. We cherish the freedoms that we have in this country, and especially, you know, when we stop to think about it on the Fourth of July, Independence Week, and so forth. It takes on an even more important relevance."
From the July 2 edition of Premiere Radio Networks' The Rush Limbaugh Show:
LIMBAUGH: Ladies and gentlemen, I am -- I want to speak to you from my heart, as well as my mind. I do this most of the time anyway. I'm terribly conflicted here. I'm getting advice from both staff and many of you in the emails who acknowledge what was headlined on the Drudge Report today, and I -- these things are always tough to, I mean, to talk about. I mean, I can tell you that I have extended my partnership with Clear Channel through the year 2016. I am not going anywhere. I am going to be here with you.
I think it is -- I'm just -- I'm ecstatic that this has happened, and I'm happy that I can be able to tell you about it during the Fourth of July week, because -- and I've said this on many occasions, none of this would have been possible without you, and I can't thank you enough. There aren't -- it's a debt that I can never repay you. Just like we can never repay the debt that we owe the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces.
And I am in -- constantly in awe of the bond, the loyalty, the length of time people have been listening to this program -- 20 years coming up on August the 1st. So, yes, ladies and gentlemen, I have extended through 2016. And yes, for the most part what you've read is true, but I want to say a couple things.
It's actually a cut, because I was projecting much more. And since I didn't get what I was projecting, I'm looking at this not as a raise, but as a cut, because I was expecting twice this. What I am going to call this is the Contract for America 2008. I know that the liberals and others will resent this -- the class-envy crowd -- but don't resent it; I earned it.
[...]
LIMBAUGH: I want to take one more stab here at something I was talking about just before the previous hour concluded, and that is the news that popped up everywhere today on the Drudge Report -- and my syndication partners at Clear Channel put out their own press release announcing that I have extended my partnership arrangement with them for eight years through 2016. That's why I am your host for life. I've always said, I am not going anywhere 'til everywhere -- everybody, every American agrees with me -- a daunting challenge. I have not shrunk from it nor shall I.
But I wanted to tell you what this means to me, because the -- in terms of my mind and my heart, you know, we all, in this audience, you and I, we cherish this country. We cherish the freedoms that we have in this country, and especially, you know, when we stop to think about it on the Fourth of July, Independence Week, and so forth. It takes on an even more important relevance.
For example, I have a story in the stack of stuff today, the last batch of troops sent over to Iraq for the surge will be soon coming home. They will not receive anything from the Democrat Party along the likes of "Job well done. We're proud of you." And this is highly distressing. Not only will Democrats not say, nor leftists, say to any returning troops from Iraq, "Good job. Job well done. We honor your service." No, they did just the opposite. They sought to secure defeat of the U.S. military in Iraq. They sought to discredit the surge before it had even begun. They called the architect of the surge, General Petraeus, essentially a liar before he had even opened his mouth to give them in Congress a report.
We face really challenging times. The left wing in this country is on a tear to restrict as much freedom and as much movement as they can. I -- two days in a row, I've had stories in the stacks of stuff here celebrating -- drive-by media stories -- celebrating the end of the SUV. And this is because people can't afford the gas price anymore. They -- SUVs use a lot of gasoline, so people -- a) -- aren't buying new ones, and they're trying to sell the ones that they have. And there are people happy about this.

Not only will Democrats not say, nor leftists, say to any returning troops from Iraq, "Good job. Job well done. We honor your service." No, they did just the opposite.
Wait, is this a report of events that happened, or a prediction? Reality or fantasy? Do time and space mean anything in the universe of Excrement in Broadcasting, or have a combination of narcotics and brainwashing made the concepts irrelevant ?
This is one of the more amazing aspects of Rush's show, and one I find pretty entertaining when I catch bits of it.
The guy starts his segment with a paraphrase of something a librul said, or a wild baseless prediction, or just some alternate reality he's fabricated in his own head, and before you know it, he's discussing this figment as if it's something real.
I know, it's strawman 101, but he takes it to another level, where he gets progressively more angry and hysterical at his creation. Even better, the dittoheads call in and start discussing the mythical enemy with the Oxymoron, and they seem to be hallucinating right along with him.
The final paragraph in the item, re" SUVs is pretty funny too. This is the end of the part I heard yesterday, and what followed was Fatboy trying to tie in the "celebrating" (reporting) of slowing SUV sales with the left trying to restrict freedoms and dictate what Americans should drive.
Which is absolute BS, as the poor sales are due to nothing except Rush's beloved free market, and people finally being affected by gas prices to the point that they're realizing they don't need a 4 wheel drive heavy duty military vehicle to drive down the freeway to their middle-management job.
So, Rush, nobody is celebrating in the sense that you're implying- taking joy in the fact that manufacturers are suffering- at most, they're celebrating that of some of our fellow Americans are growing up a little bit and taking some responsibility.
Now, "celebrating" is a word I would use to describe Rush's promotion of the increasing sales of SUVs over the past few years. Encouraging his zombies to buy the biggest vehicle they could, imagining he was rubbing those enviro-wackos noses in it, Rush was constantly cheering on the failure to address gas mileage and alternative fuel, along with advising his idiots to use as much toilet paper as the could, and turn on every light in their homes. That was hilarious.
Will the dittoheads ever catch on to the scam this guy is pulling on them?
um..........no, they won't, ever.
"Will the dittoheads ever catch on to the scam this guy is pulling on them?"
as evidence of the truth of my statement: he just received a huge contract extension. if his employer thought his audience would ever finally figure it out, they wouldn't have.
why, you ask? because they're stupid.
Hey Col., do you know what God's punishment for liars is?
They believe their lies.
"This is one of the more amazing aspects of Rush's show, and one I find pretty entertaining when I catch bits of it. "
I don't listen to his show as much as you do (actually I never do), so I'm guessing that Rush meant as troops are "returning". Possibly while walking through the airport? I saw nothing in his statement that referred to troops already back and at home. However, ALL the mmfa references did refer to troops who have already returned, not troops who were "returning". Let's ask the professional: wzwriter, does "returning" mean the same thing as "returned"?
So we're supposed to take anything you say seriously when your entire post is based upon total ignorance of the subject and a "guess" at what you thought Limbaugh meant?
Stop posting until you have even an inkling of a suspicion as to where a clue may be located.
Because any insight you bring to MMfA is as scarce as Sadaam's WMD's.
"Stop posting until you have even an inkling of a suspicion as to where a clue may be located."
Ok...FACT: limbaugh says; "will not receive anything from the Democrat Party along the likes of 'Job well done. We're proud of you.' And this is highly distressing. Not only will Democrats not say, nor leftists, say to any returning troops from Iraq, 'Good job. Job well done. We honor your service.' No, they did just the opposite. They sought to secure defeat of the U.S. military in Iraq."
FACT: mmfa says; "In fact, many Senate Democrats recently honored the service of U.S. troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan in floor statements"
So, mmfa's evidence that limbaugh is lying is incorrect. When mmfa brings some factual evidence that counters limbaugh's statement then an article like this would make sense. As it is, mmfa is only showing they can use unrelated evidence to attempt to refute a talking head they don't like.
Mmfa is providing a strawman arguement for the straw eaters to enjoy. This makes every article they write questionable. Once a liar, always a liar. No wonder all the conservative talk show hosts think this site is a wacko site. Because all their evidence is made up. And, no wonder all the liberals sites love this place, because they love living the lie. You can't even denegrate someone as easy to denegrate as limbaugh without lying.
Independence day is a great day to conclude that a hate site is nothing but just that...a hate site. They build their clientelle with those who love to hate. Good luck to ya'll, hope you love continueing to hate. Mary...keep considering your love of babies dying every time you talk to God.
So what is the big difference between honoring soldiers on their way home and honoring them after they arrive home? Without demonstrating a relevant difference there, I think your speculative argument is even more pointless. I think the main point would simply be that the soldiers were honored or they weren't - who cares where it happened.
It was pretty interesting to see how you can take a purely speculative premise to a speculative conclusion and then use that as a basis to nullify everything MMFA writes and how they are liars. You are a real piece of work.
"So what is the big difference between honoring soldiers on their way home and honoring them after they arrive home?"
To you, apparently none. To the actual soldiers returninghome it can mean a LOT. What mmfa is doing is disingenuous and missinformation. If not an outright lie.
Thank you for that amazing evidence. Your assertion was simply amazing. I don't know how you are able to manufacture such devastating arguments. Bravo!
; )
Hahahahahahaha!
They build their clientelle with those who love to hate.
Case study in projection.
Your argument carries no weight whatsoever. Rush Limbaugh was not talking about a moment in time. He was saying that Democrats have done some things that don't support the troops in his view and have not done other things that do show support of the troops. Of course he was lying all around, but he was not restricting his comments to one point in time, to just the point in time when soldiers are in airports coming home from Iraq!
You'd better hope the people who pay you to post here are off this weekend while you're freelancing. If they get wind of these posts, you may be out of a job.
For example, I have a story in the stack of stuff today, the last batch of troops sent over to Iraq for the surge will be soon coming home. Let's not be too hard on him though, Chris. I'm sure if the VC had made it as far as Pittsburgh, Rush "Jeff Christie" Limbaugh and a few of his "boys" would have saved the seedier section of the city he used to haunt.
I wonder what Jeff/Rush was paying for a "surge" in those days.
Is the ballroom dancing bit true?
I guess it's as true as anything the fat man says. It's a "fun fact' and why should we have to prove our "fun facts" when the prancing boil boy gets away with saying whatever he wants?
And you'll have to be more specific. Did you want the price for the reacher or the reachee?
And Democrats will not say this either.
Limbaugh: VoteVets lied to soldier in ad, "strapp[ed] those lies to his belt," then sent him out "to walk into as many people" as he can

I thought it was because Saddam was bad? Or maybe it really was for oil?
Yeah, it really was for oil...
For oil? Nah...can't be. That would mean Bush and Cheney are evil, lying, cynics, perfectly willing to see thousands of Americans killed and lives ruined for bogus reasons. I'm sure they must have had a good reason...like WMD ready to be kill us or something, mushroom clouds and all that.
Why doesn't Rush ask a returning soldier if good wishes are going to bring his legs back?
Good question, Irony. Did you ever have that boss at a crappy job who was good at handing out the "attaboys", printing up certificates of recognition, even thank you cards? I know I had a couple when I was younger, and they were always the toughest to get anything real out of, like decent pay or improved working conditions.
It's all happy-talk and feel-good, emotional cotton candy that the GOP runs on. Not so good with the tangible.
I'll bet anyone who wants to disagree 20 bucks that Jim Webb will tell his son he did a good job.
On a side note, did anyone get a kick out of this like I did?
"I've always said, I am not going anywhere 'til everywhere -- everybody, every American agrees with me -- a daunting challenge."
YOU VEEL FALL IN LINE! YOU VEEL NOT MOVE! DO ASH I SHAY!
Heil Limbaugh!
"I've always said, I am not going anywhere 'til everywhere -- everybody, every American agrees with me -- a daunting challenge."
So, in other words, Rush Limbaugh is going to drop dead one day sitting in front of his golden EIB microphone...probably from an Oxycontin overdose.
"I've always said, I am not going anywhere 'til everywhere -- everybody, every American agrees with me -- a daunting challenge."
So, in other words, Rush Limbaugh is going to drop dead one day sitting in front of his golden EIB microphone...probably from an Oxycontin overdose.
oh, also "The left wing in this country is on a tear to restrict as much freedom and as much movement as they can."
So what now? Hasn't it been the argument on here to the tune of "why do liberals run away from the liberal label? They should embrace it."
This is why. When you have people reaching however many millions of listeners and saying stuff like this, it tends to paint liberals as wholly bad in the eyes of those people. I, personally, try to seek open and honest discussion with people, but once the dittoheads hear the word "liberal" the debate shuts down. It's happened more times than I can count.
Also, does Limbaugh know Bizarro superman? What about bizarro Jerry? In Limbaugh's world, Bush is good, cats are dogs, and Rush is skinny. I mean really, can someone not knock him upside the head and say "do you hear yourself?"
There's just so many little nuggets of madness in this one little bit that I couldn't resist.
Ooops. Darn keyboard.
I get a few like that, The seattle PI as indicated by an MMfa study and my experience is not a part of the Noise Machine.
OT, Its split over having to admit that our torture isn't home grown ie something we were unable to do without outside, and communist help.
Which would be worse, admiting we needed help, or admiting we didn't need help properly torturing people?
Given the recent writeups on the medicinal benifits of magic mushrooms, I'd like to see Rush try some. Under strictly controlled conditions of course. That might involve tying a few posters down. Watching and possibly helping him freak out is not something you'd want to tempt some folks with.
Recently, Rush Limbaugh said he wouldn't quit working till everyone in America agrees with him. To that I say, I hate to break it to you, Rush, but like it or not that many lobotomies necessitates universal healthcare.

[The Democratic Party, speaking to U.S. Troops not only returning from IRAQ, but also to those still in that place...]
"Welcome Home to those of you returning Home: and for those of you still in IRAQ, we're working hard to get you back Home, safe and alive, to be Welcomed Home also!"
"It was an extraordinary mission you were tasked with: and to say you performed it extraordinarily well, is too few words to describe our Gratitude and Appreciation adequately: you were tasked with toppling the IRAQ regime, and you did so, with head-spinning swiftness and with an awesome force: you were then required to hunt down capture and/or kill whatever legacy remained to that regime, and you did that brilliantly, completely, included capturing saddam: you were then tasked with providing as much domestic stability to a now destabilized IRAQ as you could, in addition to serving completely IRAQ's national security objectives against any foreign nation that would take advantage of that instability: you continued that task through the long and difficult process of bringing about national elections in IRAQ, and seating a National Assembly, and drafting and ratifying a national constitution: and beyond all that still, you have continued to provide as much domestic stability as you can to IRAQ, and as much national security to them, as they have required of you."
"You the members of the U.S. Armed Forces, have performed your mission in IRAQ with Brilliance and with Courage and with Valor and with Magnificence: and you have done this all with great Sacrifice, having lost 4,200 Lives on the field, and having Sacrificed many Limbs, and much Peace of Mind and Joy of Heart, I am sure..."
"Good job. Job well done. We're proud of you. We Honor your Service: and there are no real words that can express, how much we Honor your Sacrifice... let these words here, be our attempt to do just that."
"Welcome Home to the Sons and Daughters and Brothers and Sisters of the American People: and for those of them still in IRAQ, we are working to bring you Home, safe and alive, as soon as possible."
"OK, you all who've come Home, you go now and you embrace your family and friends and loved ones and the American People: you go now and do that, because you deserve it... but at some time in the near future, I want to get together with you, and ask you a few questions... not now, but later, after your many reunions and congratulations... but when you have the time, I'll want your opinion: How do you feel about having had George W. Bush and Dick Cheney and donald rumsfeld at the top of your chain of Command? How do you think they used the U.S. Armed Forces in IRAQ? Were you pleased that they sent you to IRAQ for the reasons they did? Or are you at all skeptical of those reasons, and at all suspicious of their motives and objectives for invading and occupying IRAQ?"
"Your opinions in this regard are very valuable to us, and we to get them, when you find the time: and we will ask the same of your Brothers and Sisters when we return and Welcome them Home, and after their Homecoming and many reunions and congratulations also."
"Go now, and enjoy your Homecoming: You Deserve it... we've already said too much, but said it not well enough I fear."
(You forgot to thank them in advance for the excellent job they'll be doing when they head back to IRAQ as a US-financed security team for Texaco, BP, and Conoco-Phillips)
Due to the extraordinary unusual and unique circumstances here, which are unlike any circumstances in our Foreign Relations with any other nation in the world... those circumastances being our Military occupation of IRAQ (we have had no relation like that to any nation in recent times: and never in the Middle East I believe), and the circumstance of our drawing that Military occupation down, and doing so in a manner that saves as many lives as possible, and ensures the stability of IRAQ's newly democratic Shia majority government as much as possible... due to these extraordinary and unique circumstances, any and all contracts that U.S. oil compainies would enter into with IRAQ, should come under the Advise and Consent Jurisdiction of our U.S. Congress (the Senate I guess), just like any Treaty with any nation, or any provision thereof does.
This should be required, at least until the Military occupation is considered ended: which would be (I hope) at a time when the democratic Shia majority IRAQI governmet is sovereign and self-standing.
And the reason for all of this is as you refer to: because of the extraordinary anger and hatred and violence and anti-U.S. passions that could be inflamed among the IRAQI people, were they to think that U.S. oil companies had negotiated bribed forced and through under-handed means and oil profit connections, made contracts so advantagious to those U.S. oil companies, that the IRAQI people might think that their oil and the profits from its sale, was being stolen from them, and that they might resort in numbers, to attacking oil refineries and cheering on such attacks... to the great loss of life and property, and to the undoing of the stability of IRAQ that so many U.S. Troops have Sacrificed their lives to achieve.
In addition to provoking attacks on American soil also (as is often the method in such cases).
Just like a provision of a Treaty, such private oil contracts with IRAQ should come under Congressional Jurisdiction, for the extraordinary circumstances that presently exist, and for the extraordinary consequences that could result.
And the same is true of BP and Royal-Dutch Shell and whatever other foreign oil compainies would seek to contract with IRAQ presently for oil.
Why would their contracts come under our Congress's Jurisdiction too?
Because we occupy IRAQ, not them: it's our blood and treasure and Sacrifice invested in IRAQ's democratic majority Shia government, not theirs.
"And of course let's not forget America's greatest hero ever John Kerry who won more medals than Audie Murphy [lol, lol, lol]"
You wouldn't be disparaging the service of a soldier, would you? Because that would be wrong, but...but....IOKIYAR.
I'm willing to bet that there are more Chickenhawk Republicans who've questioned the patriotism of American veterans than there are Democrats who would say such things about returning Iraq/Afghanistan War vets.
If you believe that there is any large group who would not congratulate the vets of any of our wars, you are delusional.
Continuing the war is supporting an administration, not willing to admit their errors and asking more of our military and their families than we should.
This administration and those in the media who've been their biggest cheerleaders have a history of supporting wars while avoiding their own service. It's easy to support wars from the comfort of the White House and the news rooms in New York, when others are risking their lives.
"there are democrats who have accused the military of being cold blooded killers, John Murtha for one who has never even apologized for his disgusting comments."--fishergirlusmc
Murtha made these comments: "It's much worse than reported in Time magazine. There was no fire fight. There was no IED that killed these innocent people. Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood. And that's what the report is going to tell. Now, you can imagine the impact this is going to have on those troops for the rest of their lives and for the United States in our war and our effort in trying to win the hearts and minds."
There is nothing to indicate Murtha said anything that was not correct. By nearly all accounts, these Iraqi families including many small children, old men and women were shot "execution style" and were not the victims of an IED as the Marines had originally fabricated. The military has botched much of the investigation and the trials so far. I wish I could be as confident as you that these soldiers did not kill in cold blood due to the enormous pressure of combat. A detailed look at the openly available evidence does not support your condemnation of Murtha.
"How about Dickie Durbin and his accusations about our military."--fishergirlusmc
Durbin said: "When you read some of the graphic descriptions of what has occurred here — I almost hesitate to put them in the record, and yet they have to be added to this debate. Let me read to you what one FBI agent saw. And I quote from his report: On a couple of occasions, I entered interview rooms to find a detainee chained hand and foot in a fetal position to the floor, with no chair, food or water. Most times they urinated or defecated on themselves, and had been left there for 18–24 hours or more. On one occasion, the air conditioning had been turned down so far and the temperature was so cold in the room, that the barefooted detainee was shaking with cold....On another occasion, the [air conditioner] had been turned off, making the temperature in the unventilated room well over 100 degrees. The detainee was almost unconscious on the floor, with a pile of hair next to him. He had apparently been literally pulling his hair out throughout the night. On another occasion, not only was the temperature unbearably hot, but extremely loud rap music was being played in the room, and had been since the day before, with the detainee chained hand and foot in the fetal position on the tile floor. If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime — Pol Pot or others — that had no concern for human beings. Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners."
As you can see, Durbin's own remarks weren't at all disgusting. The rightwing successfully turned the argument ad hominem - towards Durbin instead of ever addressing the really disgusting and damning stuff (against the administration's policies allowing the use of abuse and torture) that was in the FBI agent's report.
"Also that other murderer Ted Kennedy a fine one to talk. What about Harry Reid calling us losers?"--fishergirlusmc
Harry Reid actually said: "As long as we follow the President's path in Iraq, the war is lost. But there is still a chance to change course and we must change course. No one wants us to succeed in the Middle East more than I do. But there must be a change of course. Our brave men and women overseas have passed every test with flying colors. They have earned our pride and our praise. More important, they deserve a strategy worthy of their sacrifice."
As you can see. Reid never once called the military "losers" as you state. He was critical of the current Administration's policy along with about 70% of the public at the time.
Reid did accurately call President Bush a "loser" at one time. Maybe you are confusing the separate comments.
"Nancy Pelosi claiming it is Iran who has quelled the violence in Iraq and brouht stability?"--fishergirlusmc
Here is what Pelosi actually said: "...And some of the success of the surge is at the goodwill of the Iranians. They decided in Basra when the fighting would end. They negotiated that cessation of hostilities -- the Iranians."
Pelosi's remarks are also entirely backed up by major news organization reports at the time:
"[I]t was Iran that helped broker an end to the clashes, enhancing its image and illustrating its influence over Iraq's political players." Washington Post
"During the latest hostilities, members of the Dawa Party and Badr Organization traveled to Iran, where an agreement to end the fighting was reportedly brokered by a senior official of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps and signed by Sadr." originally printed in the Chicago Tribune
"Iranians help reach Iraq cease-fire," reported that "Iranian officials helped broker a cease-fire agreement Sunday between Iraq's government and radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, according to Iraqi lawmakers." USA Today
"And of course let's not forget America's greatest hero ever John Kerry who won more medals than Audie Murphy [lol,lol,lol]"--fishergirlusmc
Now who is disparaging another soldier's service? I guess you believe the Swift-boaters who weren't even on Kerry's boat and gave entirely different stories at the time. I guess you can believe whatever makes you happy.
"Let's be HONEST here, alot of people hate those of us who serve and protect this country from all segments of society."
No. I think you listen to too much right-wing radio as evidenced by your previous statements. Most Americans on the left and the right appreciate what you and other soldiers do...the commitment, the sacrifices. Just ask yourself if you believe what you do because someone told you it was true or because of your own experience. I'd bet if you actually asked liberals what they think, you would probably be surprised. Of course, that never happens. The right has too much invested in this lie to let go based on what they see with their own eyes.
"If anyone would like to honor our soldiers please go to treats for the troops and send them a nice care package. They will appreciate it tremendously. Have a great 4th and thank-God you were born in a free country where you can say and beleve anything you want."
I thank God every day that people like Savage and Limbaugh are not in charge - labeling us "insane" and likely sending the rest of us to Gitmo or worse. Happy 4th!
I seem to recall democrat pols suggesting that the surge{our troops}wasn't responsible for improvement in Iraq, no, it was the Sunnis suddenly deciding to resist AlQeada, and Democrats like Durbin, Murtha, and Kerry who were denouncing our troops about conduct that turned out to be fictitious. Democrats like Harry Reid{"the war is lost"}, Hillary {"suspend disbelief"} Clinton, the "General Betrayus" ad, the newspaper stories that refused to recognize the progress in Iraq while emphasising the negatives{often untrue}.All the while saying they supported the troops, but not their mission.Pure unadulterated crap, and it is recognised and understood by the troops as the crap it is,don't take my word for it, just ask them. Let us not forget those code pink "ladies",the San Francisco city council's treatment of the Marine Recruitment office, the Rutgers students behavior at a football game, and so on ,and so on ,ad nauseum.Yeah, the democrat party has been real stand up for the troops.
"Yeah, the democrat party has been real stand up for the troops."
Jim Webb's amendment would be a good example of how the deeds of the Democratic party are what counts.
And who had to be dragged along kicking and screaming? Bush. And McBush.
"thereby providing an incentive to stay in rather than get out."
Right, that 16% loss of our military, right?
Of course, the 16% jump in recruitment would cancel that out, but who wants to let pesky facts get in the way of a good talking point?
So do you know how the bill will affect retention rates?
The American Conservative does
It hurts when the argument you're trying to make isn't even backed up by major thinkers of your own side, huh?
Must I point out the obvious fact
You wouldn't recognize an obvious fact if it were alocomotive screaming down a track toward you with the words "obvious fact" painted on it in large capital letters.
"Yeah, the democrat party has been real stand up for the troops."
That's right. We want them to come home so they won't get KILLED. That's the best support we can give them.
"...the San Francisco city council's treatment of the Marine Recruitment office" - ECMaurader
You might want to check your facts about your quote above. As a resident of the great city of San Francisco, I don't recall our Board of Supervisors (not a city council) doing any such thing. You're thinking of Berkeley. Nice try, though. You'll do your best to perpetuate any lie you can.
And by the way, what was the point of your worthless post?
If you don't like being taken to task for your errors, do some research before spouting off right-wing talking points.
MM and you dolts don't even understand Rush's main dig. Yes he mentioned that the Dem's wont say "We honor your service." That is obviously NOT true, the Dem will say anything and lie all the time.
What is true is the portion of his monologue that was directly before that sentence..."Good job. Job well done." The Dems have been telling everybody that the surge isn't working, that Iraq is lost and that Iraq can't be won. Hard to tell the troops that they did a good job, when going to the press saying that the surge (i.e. the troops) isn't working!
Good job MM...Job well done...way to dodge the jab by posting quote after quote, but take the uppercut right in the chops.
Actually, it's you that needs the remedial course in understanding meaning. It's obvious to everyone with basic cognitive skills what your pill-poppin', child-rapin' hero-hypocrite is saying.
It's smear. It's lies. And it's disgusting that you're so adverse to the truth that you would perpetuate such lies.
Or "Heckuva Job"?
But seriously, how many more service men and women are you willing to sacrifice for oil?
Oh, I'm telling. You said the baddest of bad words.
Isn't "oil" a dirty word to you Dems?
Even if your premise is correct, which it is definately NOT, but even if it was, protecting and obtaining a commodity that allows us the way of life which we are accustomed to is not the worst thing we could be fighting for. We fought in Kosovo and Bosnia to stop a oooo...what for it...a civil war (I mean a REAL civil war) and to overthrow an evil dictator named the Butcher of the Balkans (sort of similar to the Butcher of Baghdad, huh?)...and the U.S. spent tax payer money for that war, US soldier lost their lives in that war. What did the U.S. gain in that war? What did we get in return? We certainly didn't get oil. What is so wrong about protecting our interests throughout the world?
I honestly can't imagine why you think this war was fought for oil. If I were a Dem, I would stick to the "Bush Lied, People Died" diatribe, because if you really think oil was the reason for the war, you people have no one to blame but yourselves. If you would have only let us drill in ANWR or off the coast of Florida, we wouldn't have had to fight for foreign oil.
Excuse me, but you need to get a few facts straight. It was Jeb Bush who has fought so hard for the republicans to keep us from drilling off the coast of Florida. I'm quite aware that blaming liberals for all of your woes is 2nd nature, but your fantasy induced life is more the result of republican greed than it is of liberal concern for the environment. And let's just note that Kosovo was really about putting an end to Genocide while Iraq is definitely about oil. You might want to put the video on slow so you can follow it...
I honestly can't imagine why you think this war was fought for oil.
Despite the fact that your post contains nothing even remotely honest, the name given to the war when it was first launched was Operation Iraqi Liberation. It was renamed Operation Iraqi Freedom when they realized that even the most die-hard knee-jerk GOP war profiteer apologists couldn't justify that one.
Nothing more needs to be said.
"Even if your premise is correct, which it is definately NOT, but even if it was, protecting and obtaining a commodity that allows us the way of life which we are accustomed to is not the worst thing we could be fighting for. What did we get in return?"--Shaka
This may sound kind of wierd to you guys, but we got a lot of respect around the world for doing the right thing - without expecting something in return. I know conservatives have some difficulty with that concept.
"We certainly didn't get oil. What is so wrong about protecting our interests throughout the world?"--Shaka
Nothing wrong with that at all. Of course, the administration should be honest about it, if it is the case. I hope that is not too much to ask for.
The job that our soldiers are doing is wonderful. We have a terrific military and dedicated service personnel who make me proud.
They can't make the surge work. A successful surge required Iraq to do several things, and they haven't done them.
Black and white thinking like you demonstrate is your fatal flaw here. For some reason you can't understand that our soldiers doing a good job and Iraq being a good idea and winnable are two distinctly different things.
The secret of Rush's success is that he has a perfect understanding of his audience. And uses that insight to his great benefit.
In the words of Eric Hoffer : An empty head is not really empty; it is stuffed with rubbish.
And some minds are like concrete - all mixed up and permanently set.
Sounds like the definition of a conservative to me!
"What are those accomplishments again?"
So, you just made Rush's prediction come to fruition...and only ONE DAY after he said it...NICE!
Well Done.
No, I'm just curious if any of you surge fans can list what the surge has accomplished, and how you balance those accomplishments against the loss of human life and damage to your country's economy and reputation. So far, you've listed exactly zero accomplishments, which makes the price paid for them seem extravagant. I value our soldiers more than that, and far more than the reputation of limpaugh. Or bush.
"I know that this will fall on deaf hears around here but the point Limbaugh was making is that the democrats will never acknowledge that the surge worked."
I'm independent, and I'm not acknowledging that the surge worked. Because it didn't. Let me give you some perspective:
Deadliest month in Afghanistan since 2002.
31 American deaths in June alone in IRaq. Over 400 Iraqis killed.
Here's another little tidbit. Most of the people we're fighting JUST WANT US TO LEAVE. AQI comprises of less than 5% of violence.
I know that this will fall on deaf hears around here but the point Limbaugh was making is that the democrats will never acknowledge that the surge worked. - Lnews
Really? I know some of the "success" comes from ethnic cleansing and now the walls;
http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSL2522357120070425
And since the surge has been such a "success", the troops will now have to head over to Afghanistan cause, ummm, there's a bit of a problem there I understand.
http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/WO0807/S00084.htm
March 29, 2007: (The Politico) Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) acknowledged that the surge of U.S. troops in Iraq is “working” after returning from a brief trip to Iraq last week, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Oops! There goes that talking point...
May 18, 2008: According to the AP, Nancy Pelosi "welcomed Iraq’s progress in passing a budget as well as oil legislation, and a bill paving the way for the provincial elections in the fall that are expected to more equitably redistribute power among local officials." She gave the surge credit for making it possible.
Man, there goes that talking point - again!
Challenge for you:
When Bush outlined the surge in his speech, he stated several political goals for the Iraqis and a few here for the American government.
Here is his speech:
http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/01/10/bush.transcript/index.html
Here are a few of his goals:
1) "To establish its authority, the Iraqi government plans to take responsibility for security in all of Iraq's provinces by November."
Did that happen?
2)"To give every Iraqi citizen a stake in the country's economy, Iraq will pass legislation to share oil revenues among all Iraqis."
Did that happen?
3)"To show that it is committed to delivering a better life, the Iraqi government will spend $10 billion of its own money on reconstruction and infrastructure projects that will create new jobs. "
Did that happen?
4) "To empower local leaders, Iraqis plan to hold provincial elections later this year. And to allow more Iraqis to re-enter their nation's political life, the government will reform de-Baathification laws and establish a fair process for considering amendments to Iraq's constitution."
Did that happen?
5) "We will help the Iraqis build a larger and better-equipped army, and we will accelerate the training of Iraqi forces, which remains the essential U.S. security mission in Iraq. We will give our commanders and civilians greater flexibility to spend funds for economic assistance. We will double the number of Provincial Reconstruction Teams. These teams bring together military and civilian experts to help local Iraqi communities pursue reconciliation, strengthen the moderates and speed the transition to Iraqi self-reliance. And Secretary Rice will soon appoint a reconstruction coordinator in Baghdad to ensure better results for economic assistance being spent in Iraq."
Did those happen?
6) "We will use America's full diplomatic resources to rally support for Iraq from nations throughout the Middle East. Countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and the Gulf states need to understand that an American defeat in Iraq would create a new sanctuary for extremists - and a strategic threat to their survival."
Have we succeeded diplomatically?
7) "Acting on the good advice of Senator Joe Lieberman and other key members of Congress, we will form a new, bipartisan working group that will help us come together across party lines to win the war on terror."
Did that happen?
Personally, I think the Dems have thanked the vets for trying to extend time between deployments, expand the care they receive when they return, and provide a stronger GI Bill. I know I bought body armor for them and I will continuously vote in those, on either side of the aisle who vote to increase benefits for those brave enough to serve. I hope my taxes are raised so that I, and not future generations, can pay for the protection, facilities and equipment they deserve.
Thank you to vets everywhere, but let's not create more vets, bring them home. You all did a great job when you won the war in 2002-03, you don't need to be targets of unrest.
"Thank you to vets everywhere, but let's not create more vets, bring them home."
Are you saying we should eliminate the military? Vets are created by serving, not by participating in a war. Who will defend the country when liberals like you eliminate the military and prevent private gun ownership? Thank you supreme court for allowing that one!
"You all did a great job when you won the war in 2002-03, you don't need to be targets of unrest."
Right, now they can live peacefully at that beautiful structure in NY city. You know, the towers that look like they are twins. Certainly, at a structure like that there will be no worry of being "targets of unrest" since there is no military connection. And, besides, there are no perveyers of that unrest anywhere in the world. Well, that's according to the liberals you seem to agree with. So, why have a military when the "targets of unrest" are civilians?
Phil, you seem confused to me. Saddam Hussein's Iraq had nothing to do with the attack on the WTC. There were no WMD in Iraq, there was no reason for the US to invade except that Bush wanted to. We are obligated to stay, however, under the capitalist doctrine: We broke it, we bought it.
In the meantime, you seem to be willing to go to war with the entire rest-of-the-world, for the sake of alleviating "unrest" everywhere that makes you personally uncomfortable. You have really become drunk on the Conservative Cool-Aid, flavor: paranoid. The rest of us realize we can't continue breaking other nations (killing and maiming all those foreigners, and making them otherwise unsafe) until you feel safe. Keep your many guns handy, Phil, and if you still don't feel safe maybe you should seek help.
Also, it was Bush1 (a republican, yes?) who initiated the downsizing of the American military to cash in on the "peace dividend"? Well, we won't have to worry about peace for a while, will we?
Evidently Limbaugh doesn't realize that supporting the troops also means not sending them into battle unnecessarily...
ECM,
See my post above and please show me which of Bush's goals were accomplished. Also, if the post ever comes up again, could you define what a judicial activist is (in your mind) since you either passed or didn't see my question on another thread. Thanks.
Do you actually believe what you just wrote?
Pretty please, provide us with evidence that we are one millimeter towards accomplishing ANY of those 6 items you claim we have accomplished or almost accomplished. It is beyond a stretch to claim that we are anywhere close to accomplishing any of these, but which one could you possibly believe have already been accomplished?
As for #7, the war on terror (whatever that is) was NEVER pursued in any way by Bush or the republicans in Congress. Still aren't. Why don't you tell us how well they have done with the 9/11 commission recommendations, such as port security, chemical plant security, etc.
It is so sad that you obviously have no idea what a disaster Iraq still is, with no hope of ever getting even a little bit better. You are shirking your duties as an American citizen by blindly following these traitors and criminals.
ECM,
Please provide your evidence citing that numbers 1-6 have happened.
Provide evidence???????????????????? Seriously, are you incapable of staying abreast of the news out of Iraq? Granted, the acknowledgement of the positive results in Iraq is largely ignored by the MM, but it is increasingly becoming obvious, to the consternation of the left, which is why Iraq is receding to the background as an election issue.THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE. Of course ,you can refuse to acknowledge it, but doesn't that eventually lead to mental illness? Denial of reality is not a good thing.
Yeah, like we thought. You made a claim that you couldn't back up and now that your lie has been exposed, all of a sudden the burden's on us to prove that you were right? What drug you smokin'?
A successful surge would have been one where the Iraqi govt got up and running well. That hasn't happened. It'll be great if it does.
Our soldiers have always been good, except for a few bad eggs you'll find in any organization. They've always been capable, and liberals have always been proud of the job they've done.
Soldiers doing a good job doesn't mean the surge was successful.
"Provide evidence????????????????????" (ECMarauder)
Whoever made that list of right wing debating tactics, you may want to add this one. It's the trusty "How dare you hold my argument to your Earth standards!"
Can't really blame them, though. Years of listening to the conservative media has erased the old standards of logic from their minds. If Rush can do 4 hours a day without providing any facts, and make 30 something million a year, why should they have to raise the bar?
I mean, raise the bar ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
ECM,
You said we could hopefully discuss things calmly and rationally. I provided links for my information and you said that 1-6 are accomplished are pretty much accomplished.
If #1 is accomplished or well on its way to being accomplished, why do we still have so many troops there. I do know that we are letting the Iraqis take over security in Anbar. There are still 8 provinces that the Iraqis are not taking the lead in. They have control of security of just over 50% of the provinces, but the Iraqi government rejected a proposed Iraqi-U.S. security agreement:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/06/12/proposed-us-iraq-security_n_106850.html
On #2-it looks like 5 major Western oil companies are getting oil deals which would probably not give oil revenues to all Iraqis
http://www.globalpolicy.org/security/oil/2008/0630advisors.htm
#3-That didn't happen. Iraq spent a little over half of the $10 billion allocated in 2007
#4-"To empower local leaders, Iraqis plan to hold provincial elections later this year." That didn't happen. Provincial elections are scheduled for October 2008, but could be delayed due to disputes over election law.
5-7 I think go without saying. I will graciously say that #5 is improving, but our diplomatic efforts (#6) have not been all that successful and #7, well not even close.
The underlined things in my post are from this link and are linked articles.
http://www.metafilter.com/72774/Waiting-for-the-New-Way-Forward
If we are going to discuss this, please show me the news out there that you are referring to. I am not in denail, but merely asking you where you get your information. I don't think I am asking too much.
I know you're not holding your breath, expecting him to answer!
What a brazen imbecile though, to say that we have accomplished those things, and when challenged to provide evidence of his statements, the fool demands that we provide the evidence!
The GAO doesn't think so:
http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d08231t.pdf
Here is what Petreaus said about the political progress:
"Iraqi leaders have failed to take advantage of a reduction in violence to make adequate progress toward resolving their political differences, Gen. David H. Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, said Thursday."
http://digg.com/politics/Petraeus_Admits_The_Surge_Has_Failed
Are you claiming that the Iraqis have taken over security in every province? Bush said they should have that done by November of last year.
ECM, I've got to say that it's very reassuring, after reading your posts, that you consider this world an "alternate reality'.
What I don't see anybody mentioning (unless I missed it) to you, Shaka,Newsome and the others who are questioning the patriotism of those who aren't gushing about the (ahem) success of the surge, is this;
First of all, you're playing along with one of the most fundamentals of propaganda, equating "the troops" (the men and women doing the fighting),or "America", with "the military".
Glamorizing war,and deflecting any criticism by accusing the criticizers of attacking the troops is one of the simplest ways for an authoritarian military regime to get a foothold. It's a short jump from there to framing any criticism of the government in general as an attack on the troops. Add in some religion, and you've got a good mix for keeping citizens quiet about speaking out about just about anything those in power might be doing.
I know people from across the political spectrum, and I don't really hear any of them saying disrespectful things about the troops. Even if there were more verifiable successes in our current military actions, you might not hear as much praise as you want to, but I wouldn't blame Dems or "the left" or "liberals" for that. I'd look more to your own people on the right, who have taken politicizing war to ridiculous new levels, trying to justify anything they do by focusing on the minor positive effects of an overall disaster, and trying to silence objective analysis by screaming "America-hater".
I have friends and family in different branches, and I'm proud and awed by the sacrifices they're making and have made in the past, but I'm also aware of the dangers of putting any group above scrutiny or honest evaluation. The minute you create that group, the noble entity that can't be questioned, the dirtiest element of humans will try to align themselves with, or hide behind, that very group.
That's when they know they can get away with murder.
I have heard people condemn specific members of the fighting forces who were found to have done horrible things, but that isn't, contrary to what you might be hearing, a smear of the troops.
I think medicine and teaching can be honorable professions, just as serving in the military can be, but there are teachers who have sex with underage students and doctors who have been convicted of murder. Their professions are made up of humans, just like carpenters, soldiers and bankers.
Be very careful about turning anybody into a saint. It usually doesn't work out very well.
Sorry to ramble. I appreciate every honorable person serving in our forces, and admire their individual successes regardless of how much I disagree with the mission they've been given. I want nothing more than the safe return of every one of them as soon as reasonably possible, so that they can enjoy all of the freedoms that the rest of us Americans easily take for granted.
And everybody have a safe and sane Independence Day. Maybe a little insane, but moderation is the key.
I guess with the big contract he can afford more lackeys.
Careful, Worrierking, you may be in for a little tongue-lashing from Capt. WITH for violating the rules.
I was scolded for my transgression yesterday , so let me get you up to speed; When posters show up here repeating the insulting lame-brained talking points that they just heard on El Rushbo's show, no matter how many times those points have been demolished, no matter how ridiculous they are, you shouldn't make fun of them.
They are to be treated as if they're rational people with original, fresh new thoughts, and they deserve your time in a civil discussion. I know, it seems as if we're being held to much higher standards than they are, but I think that might just be our bias showing.
Let me guess, another republican ploy (although he calls himself a serious conservative). The Republicans have been treating our war vets like garbage for years. Our War vets have always been a goal to meet an end. No matter how unrealistic that end is. Our vets have been treated as unimportant pawns to be used and killed just like a chess game. The fact that they were Americans did not matter. It is always about the republicans great plan (well let me be honest, Bush is the only president that really gave no meaning to our troops more than any other president).
I really find it disgusting that people have no real concern for the welfare for other people and only have eyes for their ideals of fighting a losing cause. Rush is no different. He is so busy selling his hate agenda (mostly against Obama but Rush has no respect for McCain either) that all he can see is that some one is trying to restrict his rights from being a big fat pill popping hateful, racist, spewing divisive words right winger. God forbid he join the human race and become a person, I'm sure Hitler has a seat in hell reserved for him when his time come. Then he will be in perfect company.
Rusty, leader of the cut and run brigade talking about honoring military service? Is there a punch line coming?
I can think no better way to honor those that served than to cheer-lead from the sidelines while sitting on an ugly (and evidently debilitating) cyst that kept Rush Limbaugh from serving when he had the chance to show us the courage of his convictions (I use the term courage loosely here).
Rush Limbaugh - Radio talk to host extraordinaire - who did not serve in Vietnam when he had the chance. You go girl!!
Who decided that deceased military will be brought home as quietly as possible, no photos allowed? Shurb somebody I think. It gets weird when loud voices get the authority to declare what is patriotic and what isn't.
Limbaugh is in part what's wrong with America. He incites distrust and hatred. He spreads rumors, lies and propaganda worthy of Joseph Geobbels himself, but I cannot blame him alone. If his "dittoheads" weren't, he'd be neutralized. I can only speak about the ones I know, but they certainly fit what one would expect about such people. They repeat what Limbaugh says as gospel. It's useless to dispute anything he says; even when facts are presented that nullify limbaugh's ad hominem or strawman attacks, they still are not satisfied. A classic come back is, "those are your facts". I'm sorry, but I was under the impression that the truth was everyone's truth. It's sad and scary but true that facts don't hold much water in Bush's Amerika.
A large portion of soldiers returning from Iraq ARE Democrats. Many who returned in flag covered boxes WERE Democrats.
When opponents slam Democrats, they are slamming our troops.
