Fox News wonders: "Obama a Rock Star Over There: Red Flag for All Americans Here?"
While assessing Sen. Barack Obama's July 24 speech in Berlin, Fox News asked, "Obama a Rock Star Over There: Red Flag for All Americans Here?"
The words appeared in on-screen text as David Asman, guest-hosting Your World with Neil Cavuto, introduced Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) to discuss Obama's performance that day in Germany and American voters' reaction to it.

Kicking off the discussion, Asman repeated the question, asking, "Barack Obama, looking like a rock star in Germany today, but is the fact they love him there a red flag for Americans here?"
From the July 24 edition of Fox News' Your World with Neil Cavuto:
ASMAN: Well, Barack Obama, looking like a rock star in Germany today, but is the fact they love him there a red flag for Americans here? Republican Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona joins us now. He is a McCain supporter. Now, we invited the Obama campaign to join the segment as well, and they declined. So, Senator, big success in Berlin. Does it have any translating power over here?

Gov,
It is a red flag in front of liberals eyes. You can tell by all the snorting going on around here.
It is a red flag to conservatives, because the anti-war German left is far to the left of the American left. Obama epitomizes their views. No doubt about it, Obama eich bin rock star.
BTW, I applaud BHO on his request for NATO help in Afghanistan.
"You can tell by all the snorting going on around here."
I think that's just uncontrollable laughter at your suggestion that a "red flag" isn't a bad thing.
Bureaucrats. As if the media would point out Valerie Plame in the crowd!
Sometimes you just gotta shake your head.
That's just a ridiculous suggestion. People who are undercover go out in public every day. That's how they maintain their covert status, is by pretending to be regular people.
It's crazy how your mind works. The reason that the US Embassies told State Dept workers that they couldn't go to any Obama speeches is because the media might 'out' a covert spy either on purpose or accidentally? Like I told another rightie, go get a trade-in on your 'thinker', because it's doing a crappy job!
The demand by the embassies had nothing to do with covert spies not knowing, on their own, how to protect their identities. It had to do with their belief that it was a campaign event and somehow simply attending that event was too partisan of an activity. It was blatant bias by the Bush administration, but it had nothing to do with protecting sensitive US State Dept employees!
BBlonde,
In your reflexive response you missed the sarcasm of my post. Maybe I should have put a :-) ?
However I do admire your outrage. (insert colon, dash right-paren)
"Obama eich bin rock star."
Your Deutsch certainly could use some improvement.
Well, you've probably heard the joke, "What do you call someone who speaks three or more languages? (multilingual); what do you call someone who speaks two languages? (bilingual); what do you call someone who speaks only one language? (an American)."
You are not only AnotherAmerican, but in some ways you're a typical American. But thanks for the chuckle, anyway. I wonder how many here have even heard of Hogan's Heroes?
I picked up most of mine from President Kennedy and Hogan's Heroes.
Then it's not surprising that you know nothing.
"When Obama delivers a powerful speech about global cooperation on everything from counter-terrorism to climate change, and does so in front of 200,000 enthusiastic Germans, many of whom were waving American flags, it tells voters in the U.S. quite a bit. Specifically, that our allies are ready for the United States to lead again, and they’re captivated and inspired by one of the candidates seeking the job of leader of the free world."
Found that somewhere. Random Internet Wisdom. Source unknown, emphasis mine.
Gov,
It is a red flag in front of liberals eyes. You can tell by all the snorting going on around here.
Liberals are uneasy w/ Obama's appeal in Germany? Man, you've really lowered the discussion here. I'm mean, really, none of your posts make any sense.
Gov.
I don't want to accuse you of being bullheaded but you misinterpreted my meaning. }:-)
The right cannot provide a coherent reason as to why the admiration of Obama by our allies is a bad thing.
Pete,
Nice reframing. Who said it was 'bad' thing?
All right! A red flag! Yay!
You're really falling apart lately , AA.
Yes it is. :-)
Okay, so he's trying to say that because he put a little smiley face at the end of it, he gets a pass.
AA puts the little smiley at the end of almost every one of his posts. It allows much more backpedaling.
I just find it entertaining that he thinks anybody but he needs to be told his posts are jokes.
fried,
Do you always expect answers to rhetorical questions?
AA,
If I had asked a rhetorical question, I wouldn't expect you to answer it. You said his popularity over there was a red flag. I asked why you thought that.
I like your new rhetorical tactic, AA. Maybe FNC will follow suit and start putting emoticons in their on-screen graphics:
"Obama: Socialist, Secret-Muslim, Anti-American? :-)"
Hahaha.. Thanks! It began with the surge ya know...
Don't worry about it any more:
Due to national security concerns, and by direction of the Department of Homeland Security, the phrase The Surge® is now protected as a registered trademark. Under US copyright law, unless you have proper permission and licensing from the Bush administration, you are no longer authorized to use the phrase The Surge® in certain situations.
Similar to that famous professional football championship game, you will still be able to refer to The Surge®, however you will not be able to use the phrase in the course of any discussion which addresses military tactics unless and until compensation is offered and express authorization is granted by the Bush administration.
Because the Bush administration does not want to inhibit political and/or defense discussion in any way, here are some suggested alternatives:
The Thrust
The Spurt
The Unrelenting Flood
The Big Grunt
The Bush administration thanks you for you cooperation in the effort to secure life and liberty in this great country, and regrets any inconvenience caused by this protection of its original phrase The Surge®.
Then try to answer Ariana Huffington question, and please: try to do it intelligently: Why is it a bad thing for our allies to like us?
How do we benefit if Europe scorns us? Will they be more likely to help us with couter terroris intel if they think our leader is an arrogant prick? Will they send troops to the battlefield if they hate us? (Didn't you learn ANYTHING from Iraq?) Wouldn't a popular president give us MORE Pull in the UN, and NATO, and in the world in general?
You wing-nuts will find the 'bad' in anything... Even when it makes you look like fools. We can only benefit from good relations with all countries. Only neo-con kool-aid drinkers could possibly believe otherwise.
It is irrelevant. They loved John Kerry as much as they love Obama. Kerry's poll numbers in 2004:
"Kerry was strongly preferred among all of America’s traditional allies. These included Norway (74% for Kerry to 7% for Bush), Germany (74% to 10%), France (64% to 5%), the Netherlands (63% to 6%), Italy (58% to 14%), and Spain (45% to 7%). Even in the UK, Kerry was preferred by more than 30 percentage points (47% to 16%)".
They are socialist nations and generally anti-war. If the union wants them to show up at a rally, they show up.
France and Germany both ousted leaders that were anti-u.s. and elected pro u.s. leaders.
It is irrelevant to voters in the U.S. who our allies like as president. It is neither good nor bad. They like Obama, yet Germans are against sending more troops to Afghanistan. So obviously, on one of our most key issues, winning the war against terrorism by destroying the taliban, Germans are still against it.
So, then why is Obama's popularity in Germany a red flag? You conveniently avoided that question...
I assume by red flag they mean that Germans are in general socialists, anti-war at all costs (see sending more troops to Afghanistan) and they love David Hasselhof. If that isn't a red flag I don't know what is.
Nice response - and not even close.
You should really look at the entire picture instead of believing what the right-wing media tells you: Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany, is a conservative...
So your contention that Germans are socialists is wrong.
"France and Germany both ousted leaders that were anti-u.s. and elected pro u.s. leaders."
Can you directly attribute their ousting to foreign policy toward the U.S.?
Two other European leadership changes that are noteworthy:
Spain elected an anti-US-Iraq-policy leader after the term of the pro-US-Iraq-policy leader from an opposing party had ended.
Tony Blair's resignation.
So obviously, on one of our most key issues, winning the war against terrorism by destroying the taliban, Germans are still against it.
It's nice to see that you think that destroying the Taliban is a key issue. Wish you could get the current administration to see it that way, rather than divert so much of our money, weaponry, and soldiers into the Iraq quagmire, instead. The Germans may be against it, but fundamentally, so is Bush, or it would have happened by now.
And that, of course, doesn't address your error in presuming that if the Taliban is destroyed, then the war against terrorism is won.
So much for "obviously."
but is the fact they love him there a red flag for Americans here?
Obama begins his speech: I come to Berlin as so many of my countrymen have come before. Tonight, I speak to you not as a candidate for President, but as a citizen – a proud citizen of the United States, and a fellow citizen of the world....People of the world – look at Berlin, where a wall came down, a continent came together, and history proved that there is no challenge too great for a world that stands as one.
The walls between old allies on either side of the Atlantic cannot stand. The walls between the countries with the most and those with the least cannot stand. The walls between races and tribes; natives and immigrants; Christian and Muslim and Jew cannot stand. These now are the walls we must tear down.
People of Berlin – and people of the world – the scale of our challenge is great. The road ahead will be long. But I come before you to say that we are heirs to a struggle for freedom. We are a people of improbable hope. With an eye toward the future, with resolve in our hearts, let us remember this history, and answer our destiny, and remake the world once again.
where is the red flag???
where is the red flag???
Tonight, I speak to you not as a candidate for President, but as a citizen – a proud citizen of the United States, - He begins with a bold-faced lie - because we all know if he were not a candidate for president he wouldn't be there in the first place.
People of the world – look at Berlin, where a wall came down, a continent came together, and history proved that there is no challenge too great for a world that stands as one. The walls between old allies on either side of the Atlantic cannot stand. The walls between the countries with the most and those with the least cannot stand. The walls between races and tribes; natives and immigrants; Christian and Muslim and Jew cannot stand. These now are the walls we must tear down.
His ego has gotten too big for this country - he is taking it world-wide, and is sounding more like the fictional Nicolae Carpathia every day. Do you know of any other unseated head of state of a foreign nation campaigning for office in the United States? Be careful Mr. Obama - the New England Patriots thought they had it all wrapped up until the Giants showed up for the game.
http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2008/07/20/the_audacity_of_ego/
The red flag is that as Obama tours the country, visits with the military, and reaches out to the world - the realities of the situations he faces begin to educate him. His constantly shifting positions away from his leftist handlers has him sounding more and more like the current president each day.
We've already beat down that Rush Limbaugh talking point.
No one comes for the opening acts. No one left from the crowd after the two bands played, so there's zero evidence that they came for the bands and conclusive evidence that they came to hear Barack Obama.
But they did show up for McCains speech for the free Kraft© Singles®. Both of them.
Vegas was built on people who over-estimated their analytical skills based on a single victory over 50/50 odds.
Do you get all your talking points from "Left Behind"
If you leftists would only get your heads out of the "Talking point" mode you may actually learn to think for yourselves.
You're so cute.
Everybody! Come look at the desperate wingnut!
See how he squirms and lashes out blindly?
It wasn't a claim. It was a question, just like Fox News.
Do you always confuse questions with claims?
Deez,
Whew buddy! Here's some flowers. Get out of bed and take a whiff.
While you are at it, take a look around at the lashing out by those seeing red. In case you are color blind, that's what most of the liberals here do, day in and day out.
Sometimes I think this website should be renamed, MMFAI. (MM for adolescent Insults.)
If you leftists would only get your heads out of the "Talking point" mode you may actually learn to think for yourselves.
- DEMS_SOL / Friday July 25, 2008 3:58:19 PM EDT
If you righties would only stop using talking points, we'd stop saying that you use talking points!
Think for ourselves? That's what liberals are famous for. The side of the aisle that votes en masse and supports their party almost in unison would be your side.
Dems_
Perhaps our friend here who are so critical of red flags can explain what the heck Obama meant by "bringing walls down"??? He's about 19 years late isn't he?
AA,
You're setting yourself for ridicule with that question. I am sure you are aware the walls BO referenced are figurative. What gets me is that he is insinuating that his pending presidency will be so magnificent that no divide is insurmountable. Even Arabs and Jews, who have been at war for centuries, will succumb to Obasims. His arrogance is blinding!
Facetious, no. Stupid yes.
That goes for you too.
Really? It's interesting that MORONS like you can turn a successful speech by Obama into some sort of evil "red flag". You cannot handle the idea that modern conservatism is dead, so you lash out.
I'm still waiting on your answer as to what the righties mean by "red flag" here. Are you going to be honest with your answer, or are you going to continue to kow-tow to the conservative misinformation channel? Talk about not thinking for yourself...sheesh...
And, as many others have pointed out, your post is a piece of sh!t propaganda. Your candidate cannot even come close to being as impressive as Obama, so you guys on the right have to do anything, anything at all, to put others down so you feel better. The fact of the matter is, McCain is history. We all know that. Your party is dissolving - and we are witness to it. I'm so excited I cannot contain myself.
Now, please, turn on your brain, get rid of the talking points (because that's all you're doing, spouting talking points from Rush, et al.) and use your brain. Otherwise, you're just an insult to G-d.
"Even Arabs and Jews, who have been at war for centuries, will succumb to Obasims. His arrogance is blinding!"
Dem_Sol
"Opening the program was a mocking piece highlighting the RNC's new "Audacity Watch," which details instances when the Obama campaign sounds like they're getting too big for their britches. "What they're trying to point out is that he is an arrogant guy, with a big ego," said Steve Doocy."
You know, it really wasn't that hard.
Isn't that enough?
How about Darth Barak? :-)
Are you sure you don't mean Darth Brak?
ALL Americans?
Hey Fox... speak for yourself and your dimwitted followers only. Thanks.
"What's Fox News' issue with Germany?"
The same issue they've got with anything and anyone that's not American, with the exception of sweatshop labor, of course.
"What's Fox News' issue with Germany?"
A bit of jealousy & inferiority complex. Germany did Fox news better and 70 years earlier.
Since when did the Cons and Fox care about what any foreigner had to say or think. All they do is look around inside their little box and tell one another how great they are. Who needs French Fries? Do the idiots on the right still by that nonsense? Waiting for the messiah crap to really start. Send Sen. McCain overseas...the press will outnumber the crowd.
P.S. To the Cons, your hero, Ronnie Reagan was also a "citizen of the world" and he actually told the UN that Americans are also citizens of the world. Everybody except Savage.
Red flag...like what you wave in front of a bull to distract him while you place the sword just so..
Do I need a symbolism upgrade?
Is this all they have left? It reminds me of the Ali Foreman bout in Zaire in 1974. Foreman, weary from punching into the rope-a-dope trap set that Ali had set, got into a clinch. Foreman recalls that Ali then said into his ear "Is that all you got George?" Roger Ailes has nothing left in the tank. Fox News (an oxymoron if there ever was one) is flat footed, weary, and flaccid. As they fade into irrelevance, the bile they spew gets more and more ridiculous.
This is FOX's version of push polling. They do this all the time. Fair and balanced...
Fox News: We Distort, Our viewers Deride.
This is amusing, the rightys sudden hatred of popularity. Groupthink and popularity was what they put on a pedestal whenever public opinion was going their way.
The posters here I used to call the Ratings Queens, the ones who would counter a documented example of Bill O'Reilly's incompetence or dishonesty by linking to the TV ratings.Popularity aced quality every time.
Now, as large numbers of the Americans who were previously hoodwinked by the GOP are waking up, a decent candidate is gaining enormous popularity, and suddenly, popularity is a red flag. There's still not much substance being discussed by the right, but they've made a seamless 180, convincing their gullible audience that what was once the most foolproof indicator of goodness, is now the most positive sign of evil.
Suckers.
Exactly.
"Bill O'Reilly may be a conservative douchenozzle to you, but his ratings are blah blah blah..."
And
"Michael Savage has bazillions of listeners every day, you libs are just blah blah blah..."
And
"if Fox is so biased, how come they have the highest rated blah blah blah?"
Up until the moment Obama became popular, popularity was the be-all-end-all of the wingnuts' justification for everything.
Now suddenly, and not surprisingly, it's a bad thing.
Why is everyone talking about how Obama drew in 200,000 people when it was actually the 2 free concerts that drew in the people. Once again the media is leading you libs around like sheep.
Troll-
If you had read the comments to this read, you'd realize that some other dittohead already threw out Rush Limbaugh's talking point, about 40 posts back.
Your consolation prize is nothing, and don't come back, or I will declare a Surge on you!
Kyle,
Maybe I missed it? It looks to me like some of you have altered the meaning of the word "troll". The new definition seems to be someone who hasn't drunk the left wing kool-aid but might be a bit snarky.
If that is not the case then it is hypocrisy on your part as I never see you refer to anyone on the left for posting much worse.
ps. I hope my post doesn't have you seeing red. :-) TGIF!
SILENCE, TROLL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
;0)
ps. I hope my post doesn't have you seeing red
Colors are unnecessary. Your post is sufficiently moronic in monochrome.
Why is everyone talking about how Obama drew in 200,000 people when it was actually the 2 free concerts that drew in the people. ROBBAUER
-----------------------------------------------------------
You're an idiot. If you saw any of the coverage of Obama's speech, you saw many, many American flags in the crowd. If they were going to a concert - to see two bands perform, why would they bring American flags? They're GERMANS, you twit. They were there to see Obama and listen to what he had to say. Obama was successful - and he has been successful in his trip abroad. Obama looks and acts presidential. And you righties just can't stand it, can you?
At least Obama didn't try to give Chancellor Merkel a shoulder rub, just like Bush did. Do you remember seeing her recoil in terror when Bush did that to her?
By the way, it's you who's been duped by the media. Quit listening to Rush and Fox News and you might begin to think for yourself. What you posted above was nothing more than a quote from Rush Limbaugh. Well, it would be a quote, if you would have given it the attribution it deserves. Otherwise, you're just a plagiarist.
CSL, now you've done it. Robby, wasn't that a robots name, is going tell everyone that you called a name. I am sure that he will call his local ConRadio station and yap about how you called him some type of atheist.
CSL, please limit your rebuttals to words no longer than four letters. This is what FOX NEWS does. Uses all four-fives letter words then throws out a nine letter word and the Foxites bow down and marvel at the intelligence of E.D. Hill....is she finally gone?
Don,
I do believe it's due back from Europe and the Iraq this Saturday. :-)
What are you, the navigator or the bombadere?
2009 the U.S.
2012 the World
Obama RULES
To me, McCain's cozying up to the Bush family is the red flag, not Obama's popularity abroad. One would think that Americans with at least a modicum of common sense would see that.
More of the same of what we've had the past eight years? Red flag, indeed.
Fox desperately tries to spin gold into straw. What a bunch of losers.
First of all Asman shold be hosting some stupid game show instead of any type of Faux News program.
Second, the fact that Europeans love Obama is a bad thing? How? I think it's better than them despising our current resident and us as well.
