Corsi's claim that Obama posted "false, fake birth certificate" flatly rejected by Hawaii Health Department
SUMMARY: On Fox News, Obama Nation author Jerome Corsi claimed that the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama "has a false, fake birth certificate posted on their website." In fact, the Hawaii Department of Health has confirmed that the birth certificate posted online by the Obama campaign is "a valid Hawaii state birth certificate" and has called speculation about Obama's citizenship "pretty ridiculous."
On the August 15 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends, Jerome Corsi, author of The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality, claimed that the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama "has a false, fake birth certificate posted on their website." In fact, the Hawaii Department of Health has confirmed that the birth certificate posted online by the Obama campaign is "a valid Hawaii state birth certificate" and has called the speculation about Obama's citizenship "pretty ridiculous."
Referring to Obama's birth certificate, which was posted on the Obama campaign's Fight the Smears website in response to unfounded claims that Obama is not a natural-born citizen, Corsi said: "The campaign has a false, fake birth certificate posted on their website ... The original birth certificate of Obama has never been released, and the campaign refuses to release it." Co-host Steve Doocy asked, "Well, couldn't it just be a State of Hawaii-produced duplicate?" Corsi replied: "No, it's a -- there's been good analysis of it on the Internet, and it's been shown to have watermarks from Photoshop. It's a fake document that's on the website right now."
In an August 13 article, The Honolulu Advertiser reported that Hawaii Department of Health spokeswoman Janice Okubo said that her office contacted the Obama campaign to find a solution to the repeated requests for Obama's birth certificate. She reportedly said that the Obama campaign "responded and apparently it isn't good enough that he posted his birth certificate." She reportedly added: "They say they want it because they claim he is not a citizen of the United States. It's pretty ridiculous." From the Advertiser article:
The Obama campaign said it has posted a copy of his birth certificate at www.fightthesmears.com in response to Internet chatter that the Illinois senator is not a natural-born citizen. But the posting has done little to curb the nearly weekly requests to the Health Department for copies of the original, Okubo said.
Some skeptics point to the lack of an official state seal on the birth certificate posted on the Obama campaign Web site.
But seals often are placed on the back of the birth certificate, Okubo said, "and whether it shows through depends on how much force was put into it."
Others wonder why a large black rectangle appears next to the words, "CERTIFICATE NO."
"The thing that's redacted is just our file number," she said. "Potentially, if you have that number, you could break into the system."
Health officials contacted the Obama campaign a few months ago in response to the persistent inquiries "to see if they could try and resolve the issue with the people who were asking questions," she said.
"They responded and apparently it isn't good enough that he posted his birth certificate," Okubo said. "They say they want it because they claim he is not a citizen of the United States. It's pretty ridiculous."
Additionally, Politifact.com, in a June 27 article, quoted Okubo stating of Obama's posted birth certificate: "It's a valid Hawaii state birth certificate." Noting the unfounded "internet" rumor that Obama's birth certificate is "Photoshopped and a wholesale fraud," PolitiFact concluded: "There is not one shred of evidence to disprove PolitiFact's conclusion that the candidate's name is Barack Hussein Obama, or to support allegations that the birth certificate he released isn't authentic. And that's true no matter how many people cling to some hint of doubt and use the Internet to fuel their innate sense of distrust."
As Media Matters for America has noted, Corsi has pushed numerous falsehoods in media appearances promoting his falsehood-laden book.

CORSI: Absolutely. Right.

So let me get this straight, Corsi thinks Obama is illegally running for President of the United States with a fake birth certificate. Corsi really thinks someone would do this and get away with it. Has there ever been a better argument for equal opportunity and affirmative action in college admissions than Jerome Corsi? According to Wiki, he obtained a PhD from Harvard University in 1972, when Harvard, like many universities and colleges at that time, practiced blatant and subtle discrimination against women and minorities, keeping space open for immoral and incompetent people like Corsi.
And perhaps Harvard, as well as Corsi's undergraduate institution, should take another look at whether academic misconduct, such as plagiarism or other dishonesty, was involved in his obtaining any of his degrees. Anyone who would stoop to the kind of lies and unethical behavior shown in Corsi's recent books certainly didn't just start stooping yesterday.
I'm not so sure the Swift-boating playbook will be successful this cycle. Voters for the most part are becoming more educated. Intelligent independents may see these smears as an act of desperation. They might very well turn off more voters to McCain than they do turn off voters about Obama.
You can only bring out the same group of liars making the same or similar smears for so long before people with a functioning brain realize it.

Throwing Corsi a "Do you feel like you yourself are being Swift Boated?" might be the most telling question ever on Fox. I literally laughed out loud when I read that. Why do they even get to use the phrase Swift Boat? It should be the N-word for conservatives, IMO.
Excellent catch, Water... Doocy uses the word "Swift Boated" to imply an unfair and untruthful attack...and, more amazingly, Corsi agrees that "in a way" he is being "Swift Boated"! Amazing...! They are too dumb to even be consistent.
To add to that, Watershed. Corsi has said repeatedly that he stands by "Unfit for Command." If he still does, he believes that "swift-boating" can only be a positive term relating to a reasoned, researched analysis leading to a logical conclusion. If he agrees that he is being "swift-boated," in his eyes, he is being knocked down in a rational, thoughtful way, right?
His response to Doocy's question was very telling. If he believes being "swift-boated" is a negative term, he is calling himself a liar, after all, he is the original "swift boater." If he believes that he wrote the truth about Kerry and he is being "swift-boated" he is being shown to be a liar in a logical manner. Point is, he loses his own argument either way.

Here's the thing though guys: I've been watching all this "fake" birth certificate stuff very closely for a while now and I have to admit they bring up some valid points that the Obama campaign could easily rectify.
For example, why the hell is the birth certificate that's posted on the fightsmears site so damn small and low resolution? It's barely legible.
Is it based on the one posted at Daily Kos, and if so, who provided it to Kos?
If the Obama campaign would just post a high-quality scan, say in TIFF format for the wackos to see, they'd lose almost all of their credibility. As it stands with the crap scan that's out there, they can continue to pick it apart with impunity. The latest thing they're pursuing is by bringing in some supposed "fraud expert" who has made some rather convincing arguments that it's actually Obama's sister's certificate and there are traces of her name still on the "photoshopped" document. This sh*t scares me to death. If any of it turns out to be true, and the repugs get ahold of it and do an October Surprise on Obama... well I don't know what I'll do.
Many of the people buying Liar Corsi's book of lies are just as big or BIGGER liars than he is, and/or they are educated fools who knowingly latch on to things they KNOW to be lies because of their racial and/or generational hatred of Obama.
Keep in mind that "Jackass, The Movie" was #1 at the box office, too. That represented a NEGATIVE, as does the negative based "success" of Liar Corsi's book of lies.
Quite frankly, Obama supporters should be encouraged by this TV exchange by Corsi - it shows the right is beyond grasping for straws at this point in trying to dig up dirt on Obama (e.g. the birth certificate). The problem there (for them), however, is that they've dug so deep they're halfway to China now, and show no sign of ever surfacing.
But if anything really disturbs me about Corsi's defense of his text is that he's actually justifying his poor research, and proporting it to be more accurate than the source material he claims to be debunking.

By the bye, over on WorldNutDaily, Corsi's boss and champion Joey Farah (another wingnut with delusions of journalistic grandeur) is trumpeting "Obama Nation" as "a thoroughly well-documented piece of first-rate journalism," and damning the Obama camp's 40-page, blow-by-blow refutation of the book as unreliable.
However, what Farah utterly fails to do is provide any examples of why "Unfit For Publication" is wrong, and Corsi's research is correct. He also spends most of the article depicting Corsi as a victim of the "attack media," claiming it has "viciously maligned" him.

The basic problem liberals have, and have had for many years, is that liberals have limits on what they will do, limits imposed on them by their ideology. The conservative ideology imposes no limits whatever on the behavior of its ideologues, and so there is nothing at which they will stop to achieve their ends. When two teams play a game by different rulebooks, it's inevitable that the team with the least restrictive rules will have an advantage. If your rulebook says you can poke me in the eye with a stick, and my rulebook says I can't do the same, I won't have any eyes left two minutes into the game, and the natural advantage of eyesight goes to you.
And the reason it's a problem is that there's nothing liberals can do about it. The only way liberals can fight conservatives on the conservative level is by compromising their ideology, and that's one of the very things the liberal ideology says they can't do, while the conservative ideology can be compromised at will since it's nothing more than a set of definitions that change every time a circumstance changes. You can't compromise an ideology that's based on fluid definitions, but no principles. As long as liberals have to fight conservatives by fair and honest rules, while conservatives feel free to poke eyes, and stomp toes, and kick testicles because their ideology imposes nothing on them, it's going to be like a game where I roll a pair of dice once, and then you roll as many pairs as you want as many times as you want. In a game of honor, the advantage always goes to the cheater.

I like how the existence of a possibility, no matter how unfounded the charge, is enough to make conclusive declarations about character. Is it possible that McCain had his marriage certificate forged because he really got married to Cindy while still married to his first wife? Is it possible that he was never really a prisoner of war, that he spent that time torturing American soldiers on behalf of his captors? Is it possible that he pulled strings with the Russians to get them to invade Georgia just to make Obama's vacation seem ill-timed?

Formatted as a white paper, similar to WIKI, with what people find to back up the claim either way, with the actual source.
A simply page space dedicated for posting on the site here of each point stated from what is printed in the book, true or false and the actual facts followed with a link. No dead ends.
If the posted point is a falsehood, then post the actual fact corrected and why.
If the posted point is true, explain why is it?
I'll check my local bookstore to see if the "BOOK" is in stock, and would like to investigate one rumor stated but never backed up as to why. it's stated that it's being sold by the pallet load off the dock before the shrink rap is removed from the semi trailer and counted as a sold lot. This bugs me when there is no trail of fact.

I just happened to catch part of Cspan this morning surfing the channels, and from Paul Waldman's interview. His statements claiming falsehoods didn't convince me with no corrections being made. I was waiting, hoping he was going to point out the difference.

Here is what Media Matters fails to mention thus it is a lie by omission. The rumor that Obama’s published birth certificate is a fake was first proposed by loyal Hillary Clinton supporters who visit the Daily Kos website. On June 12th the website published the alleged image of Barack Obama’s birth certificate. Unfortunately a forum member going by the name of opendna published a nearly blank Hawaiian birth certificate and demonstrated how easy it is to forge one. Well at least an image of one.
