SUMMARY: Appearing on the syndicated radio show of Alex Jones -- who claims to be "considered by many to be the grandfather of what has come to be known as the 9/11 Truth Movement" -- Jerome Corsi baselessly claimed that as a child, "Obama got Islamic instruction, and it wasn't mainstream Islamic instruction." Jones asserted that "we should not have anybody as president who -- both their parents aren't Americans," saying "this allows infiltration," later saying of Obama: "He is a ringer, folks. He's meant to take a dive for John McCain. So this is nonpartisan. The facts are in. He will be destroyed in this election."

On August 4, author Jerome Corsi, appeared on the syndicated radio program The Alex Jones Show -- the host of which is described on his website as "considered by many to be the grandfather of what has come to be known as the 9/11 Truth Movement" -- to promote his book The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality (Threshold Editions, August 2008). During the interview, Corsi baselessly claimed that as a child, "Obama got Islamic instruction, and it wasn't mainstream Islamic instruction," after which host Alex Jones asserted that "we should not have anybody as president who -- both their parents aren't Americans," saying "this allows infiltration." After further discussing family members of Obama's who are Muslim, Jones asserted of Obama: "He is a ringer, folks. He's meant to take a dive for John McCain. So this is nonpartisan. The facts are in. He will be destroyed in this election."

An August 14 posting on the New York Times' political blog The Caucus reported on a January 29 appearance on the show by Corsi, in which he "discuss[ed] the findings of Steven Jones, physicist and hero of the '9/11 Truth' movement who claims to have evidence that the World Trade Center towers collapsed due to explosives inside the building, not just the planes hitting them, during the attacks." The Caucus described "Alex Jones's radio show" as "a forum for those who take a deeply skeptical view of government claims about the attacks," and wrote that Corsi's "book about Senator Barack Obama appears to have distracted him from another project he was planning in January: exposing what he calls the government's inadequate explanations about the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center." From The Caucus:

A YouTube video making the rounds, especially among Obama supporters, mocks Mr. Corsi for a Jan. 29 interview on Alex Jones's radio show, a forum for those who take a deeply skeptical view of government claims about the attacks. (Mr. Corsi also frequently talks about the "North American Union" and other threats from globalization during his appearances).

The clip has Mr. Corsi discussing the findings of Steven Jones, physicist and hero of the "9/11 Truth" movement who claims to have evidence that the World Trade Center towers collapsed due to explosives inside the building, not just the planes hitting them, during the attacks.

"The fire, from jet fuel, does not burn hot enough to produce the physical evidence that he's produced," Mr. Corsi said. "So when you've got science that the hypothesis doesn't explain-evidence-then the hypothesis doesn't stand anymore. It doesn't mean there's a new hypothesis you've validated. It just means the government's explanation of the jet fuel fire is not a sufficient explanation to explain the evidence of these spheres-these microscopic spheres-that Steven Jones has proved existed within the W.T.C. dust."

From the August 4 Alex Jones Show audio clip, posted on YouTube.com on August 5:

CORSI: Well, once they understand that, blacks may understand that this Obama is not the guy they thought he was. I also have traced Obama's connections into Africa very thoroughly --

JONES: Yeah, let's stop there. That's what I wanna cover for the rest of the show, because you've broken a lot of the stuff that's already been documented in the mainstream news, from new connections that weren't, Dr. Corsi. Let's get into Barack Hussein Obama. Is he really a Muslim? Was his dad --

CORSI: Yes.

JONES: -- really a Muslim? OK, go ahead and tell us.

CORSI: Well, first of all, Obama says he never got Islamic instruction. It's not true. In Indonesia, and he was there from 6 to 9, his Islamic stepfather registered Obama -- even in the Catholic school, he registered him as a Muslim, and then in the public school, at least one year, maybe two, Obama got Islamic instruction, and this wasn't mainstream Islamic instruction, and --

JONES: Wait, wait, wait -- that is bombshell, Dr. Corsi.

CORSI: Yes.

JONES: That is bombshell because -- not that he's really a Muslim, that he's lied about it --

CORSI: He's lying. Exactly.

JONES: -- and we should not have anybody as president who -- both their parents aren't Americans. Bottom line, that's always been the way it is. They even passed laws in Europe against people from outside becoming president or chancellor, it -- because this allows infiltration. You're telling me -- tell us the proof in your book that Barack Obama did attend Muslim school.

CORSI: Well, the first proof is that I found a line in Obama's own autobiography where he admitted it.

JONES: Unbelievable.

CORSI: He says in one passing line, in about a page -- in the middle of the book, Obama says his mother was angry at him because he made faces in Quran studies, and you know, that one sentence validated it. Then the Indonesian newspapers, which I translated, and the Indonesian television went back and interviewed schoolmates of Obama. They said he attended Islamic instruction in the public school. They also said that all four years that Obama was there, he went to mosque with his father [sic], Lolo Soetoro.

JONES: So, it's not a rumor -- yeah, it's not a rumor. His stepfather was a Muslim. He has --

CORSI: Yes.

JONES: -- family, brothers and people that are Muslims. And so, bottom line, he has been lying the entire time. And that's why they put him up there. He is a ringer, folks. He's meant to take a dive for John McCain. So this is nonpartisan. The facts are in. He will be destroyed in this election.

Do you suppose what Alex Jones is saying is that it is OK to be from England, Ireland, or Canada but not from Kenya?

Not that I would EVER defend Jones's or Corsi's idiocies, but the Constitution specifically states that the natural-born citizenship requirement did not apply  to those alive during its signing.  Of course, Jones is applying an even stricter standard than the Constitution does, but I just thought that we should note that.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a tinfoil hat which needs wearing.

My wife works in a bookstore. I went in yesterday to meet her for lunch. While I waited for her to finish ringing up a customer and go clock out, I picked up Corsi's book.

I decided to conduct a thoroughly unscientific experiment.

I told myself I could flip to any random page, start reading at any random point on that page, and within three sentences I would find a distortion, falsehood, or reference to a grossly partisan source entirely lacking in credibility.

So I did. Three times. And three times, my theory was supported.

It really shouldn't be that easy. That's Jonah Goldberg territory right there. And you know when you're approaching Goldberg on the academic honesty scale, you're in trouble.

Oh, to have been present for this

I think this speaks for itself:

Albuquerque, N.M. — Today, the Democratic Party of New Mexico were joined by Patsy Trujillo, the Deputy Secretary of Aging and Long Term Care as well as Victor Raigoza, State Senate District 10 Candidate to attempt to sing Happy 73rd Birthday to Social Security outside the McCain headquarters office, only to have the birthday cake thrown in the trash by the campaign.

While McCain supporters screamed, "Obama sleeps with a Teddy Bear and a night light," staffers approached the Democratic group, yelling, took the 20 inch sheet cake that said "Happy Birthday Social Security" and threw it away.

"The McCain campaign is so out of touch instead of taking the cake to a homeless shelter or giving it volunteers, they just threw it in the garbage," said Conchita Cruz, Press Secretary for the Democratic Party of New Mexico. "What a perfect metaphor for why we can't trust John McCain with our Social Security, the campaign was literally throwing money in the trash."

                    Rabbit,

                    Here's a napkin.  :-)

Whacko's threatening to kill others is not "my side".  So why would I defend them? I don't. However since, unlike you,  I don't proclaim to know more about these unnamed people than is reported. It would be great if you could provide the source proving your contention they are right wingers. For all I know they could be you playing dirty tricks.

Nugent's rant was part of his act. If anyone takes that seriously, the joke is on them. I don't condone it and I don't buy his records... oops... cds.  As an aside, I do believe there are rappers who have recorded similar lyrics regarding killing Bush. Funny I don't believe I ever have seen you say they are all left-wingers and have you castigate them?

Your generalization that is one particular side is way out there.  Time to dial down your hate-o-meter. After all, its weekend! Have a good one.

                              2) Corsi lied about Obama not addressing his father's alcoholism, and flaws in general inferring that Obama was ok with his flaws.  Corsi attacked the marriage of Obama's parents as being illegal.  Corsi claimed that Obama did not dedicate his book to his parents, another lie.  Corsi says that Obama declared his religion to be Islam (smearing the religion by implication), Corsi lied about Obama's drug use, he claimed that Obama was inspired by black rage, he claimed that Obama called his grandparents racists, claimed that the Somali garb Obama wore proved a connection between Obama and Islam when the clothing had no religious significance, he claimed that Obama supported Communists in Kenya, that Obama inserted himself in Kenyan politics, claimed his father was a communist based on his academic work, that Obama contributed $$ to Odinga in Kenya, that Ayers made hostile comments based on 9/11, that Obama avoided questions about Rezko when confronted by newspaper writers (and tons of other lies about Rezko such as Obama represented him as an attorney), he lied about Obama's community organizing experience, said that Obama was behind Farakhan, claimed plagiarism, attacked Michelle Obama's patriotism, claimed that Stokely Carmichael was an inspriation for Michelle's Princeton thesis, claimed a Hamas endorsement of Obama.

Should we even go into the emails circulating about Obama?  Should we go into the smears telling how Obama is anti-American?  Show me the same tactics about McCain.

I think that in a debate Corsi could defend his allegations pretty well. And with Olbermann, he calls Bill O'Reilly "Billo-the clown", mocks him every single day, and called him "a sad, sorry excuse for a human being." That's as hateful and as personal as you can possibly get. The guy is a complete jerk.

Hate speech is prevalent on the right. Just look at the hateful, language of violent imagery MMFA has documented today alone.

Touting Corsi book, Limbaugh falsely claimed that Obama voted to "allow doctors and patients to murder babies"

Jonah Goldberg: "Obama won't be able to take a shower without fear of" one of the Clintons "prepar[ing] to plunge the knife into his back"

That is the one thing for which I have difficulty forgiving either Bush 41 or Bush 43: rather than build on the Reagan legacy, they squandered it

                      Mags,

We can disagree, and we do but it has a basis in reality. I realize about half the voters right now will vote for Obama and about half will vote for McCain. I don't think of most of them as kool-aid drinkers.  That is reserved for special people who believe the "other side" is the repository of evil villains.

Besides, mindless ranting, outrage, and name-calling just because someone disagrees with you is so passe.

It's been fun. I'm off to a campout with my kids. Have a great weekend everyone.

Well, Ron Paul got the 4th most delegates of all the Republican candidates, so I think there's still room for dissenting views within the party. But the one thing that binds us all is the belief in lower taxes and smaller government, which is why we all strongly oppose OBama.

As for Coulter, I don't know where you got the word "routinely" from. You came up with one incident in which she was joking. I think it was wrong of her to say that, but you don't honestly think she was being serious do you?

No, it's NOT a left wing movement. It's a whacko anti government movement. From their mission statement:

TO EXPOSE the official lies and cover-up surrounding the events of September 11th, 2001 in a way that inspires the people to overcome denial and understand the truth; namely, that elements within the US government and covert policy apparatus must have orchestrated or participated in the execution of the attacks for these to have happened in the way that they did.

TO PROMOTE, and in part to provide, the best in investigative reporting, scholarly research and public education regarding the suppressed realities of September 11th, its aftermath and exploitation for political ends, the toxic air cover-up, and the anthrax attacks; mindful always of standards of fact and logic, the limits of what we know in the absence of official investigative powers, and the dangers of rumor and unconfirmed or false claims.

TO ORGANIZE and network grassroots communities promoting truth and reform; and to support their development with materials, coaching, conference calls, working retreats, and other tools to enhance the people's democratic powers; and to promote global grassroots cooperation to halt corporatist crimes, abuse and dominion worldwide.

TO SEEK justice and redress for those wronged on September 11th, or as a result of the events, beginning with complete disclosure of all records and evidence; reversal of all domestic and foreign policies following from the false premises of the official story; and full accountability for any and all individuals inside and outside the US government involved in the attacks who engaged in crimes of commission, facilitation, complicity, gross negligence, cover-up or obstruction of justice after the fact.

TO ADVANCE the insight that ending a world in which 9/11-type and other "synthetic" events dictate the agenda requires the fall of the present US and global system of warfare and fraud, of secret government and hidden economics, of power concentrated in the hands of the vanishingly few; the rebirth of constitutional, open and accountable republican institutions with absolute protection for the natural rights and liberties of human beings; the rise of popular sovereignty over polity and economy; and commitment to the purposes of truth and justice, freedom and equality, peace and solidarity among human beings of all lands, and security and a sustainable living for all; cognizant that the tensions inherent among these purposes are to be addressed and resolved only in an open and peaceful fashion by a sovereign, educated and fully informed people who always hold truth first.

TO END, by way of integrity and god-given creativity, the regime and illicit power structures responsible for 9/11 and to replace the system that made 9/11 necessary. We solicit collaboration with others who are committed to achieving these goals by way of peaceful transformation.

He hasn't published one. But what media outlets has he been on besides Fox and CNN? It seems to me like most media outlets are smearing him without even having read or reviewed the book.

                Rino,

His book is full of easily disputable lies.  They have read enough of the book to see that.  The National Review thinks his book is full of it.  Thank you for admitting he is a righty who, to this point, has only smeared the left.  Please, if he does start a media tour slamming the right, let me know.

He has been all over the Denver radio stations.

There should be a Constitutional amendment that requires at least one of your parents to be an American citizen for you to be considered one, no matter where you are born. Border babies should not be allowed.

Just because someone was able to cross the border in time to have a baby should not entitle that baby to be a citizen and then anchor there parent here by extension.

I do not have any use for Alex Jones.  But Corsi is correct.  And again MMFA messes up big time.

Foreign born parents disqualifies you from running for president?... hmmm. Scratch Willard Romney. The Old Man George Romney was born in Chihuhua Mexico. It is claimed by Mormons and Republicans that George was born a US citizen... but Willard's great grandfather Miles Park Romney fled the US due to criminal prosecution with his multiple wives. Grandfather Gaskell also fled to Mexico clearly showing an allegiance to a foreign sovereign which nullifies any Romney descendants claim to US citizenship. George Romney was born in Mexico with two generations of family members owning Mexican property, involved in Mexican commerce and showing full allegiance to Mexican government and sovereignty nullifying any claim to US citizenship. Therefore, Gaskell and George's crossing the US boarder from Mexico in 1910, Gaskell in the classic desert crossing far from US customs authority, was clearly an illegal immigration. The Romney family are illegal immigrants. The 14th amendment holds no anchor baby, birthright citizenship to the children of parents who demonstrate allegiance again, to a foreign sovereign, and therefore not only is George Romney an illegal immigrant but the citizenship of Willard Romney should be revoked and Willard should be deported to Mexico. Willard Romney a classic country club privileged elite was a classic chicken hawk draft dodger during the Vietnam era. None of his privileged 5 sons, all 20 somethings will have anything to do with the US military yet all support other Americans dying there. Time to deport the hypocrisy of the entire Romney-Mexican clan. Well Willard, live by hypocrisy and reaction... then a taste of your own fear and hate mongering is well deserved. Did anyone see the Willard biography movie in the early 70s with Ernest Borgnine? You know the rat movie?
