SUMMARY: On Hannity & Colmes, Dick Morris said of Gov. Sarah Palin: "[T]here's a fight going on between her sister and her husband and the husband tasered the kid." But the issues raised by this "fight" are not merely issues of family discord; Palin has been accused of misusing her office in allegedly pressuring the Alaska public safety commissioner to fire Palin's sister's former husband, a state trooper, which the commissioner, who was subsequently fired, refused to do.

On the September 2 edition of Fox News' Hannity & Colmes, Fox News contributor Dick Morris said of the media attention surrounding Alaska governor and Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin: "A man would never have had to go through this. ... [T]hat her husband with DWI 20 years ago, that her daughter is having a kid, that there's a fight going on between her sister and her husband and the husband tasered the kid. ... It would never be asked about a man. It's the deep sexism that runs through our society." But contrary to Morris' characterization, issues raised by the "fight going on between her sister and her husband" are not merely issues of family discord; Palin has been accused of misusing her office in allegedly pressuring Alaska public safety commissioner Walter Monegan to fire Palin's sister's former husband, a state trooper, which Monegan, who was subsequently fired, refused to do.

As Media Matters for America has noted, The New York Times reported on August 29 that Palin recently became the subject of an ethics investigation, authorized by a bipartisan panel of state legislators, "into whether Ms. Palin had fired a top law enforcement official [Monegan] in her administration because he had failed to dismiss a state trooper who was involved in a divorce with Ms. Palin's sister." According to the Times, "The inquiry by the Legislature centers on what Mr. Monegan later described as pressure from members of Ms. Palin's administration and her husband, Todd, to fire Mr. [Mike] Wooten [Palin's former brother-in-law]. The governor herself also raised the subject of Mr. Wooten with him, Mr. Monegan has said." The Times reported that Palin "initially denied there had ever been pressure applied to Mr. Monegan," but later "disclosed [that] there had been more than two dozen inquiries from members of her staff to the public safety department about" Wooten. Palin said that she fired Monegan because, according to the Times, "she had wanted to take the department in a different direction."

From the September 2 edition of Fox News' Hannity & Colmes:

HANNITY: Well, I got to tell you, one of the things that has emerged in this campaign, in my view, is -- Sarah Palin has been now in the public spotlight for five days. There have been tougher and harder questions that have been asked relentlessly by a biased news media about her daughter than about Barack Obama, who's been running for 19 months.

MORRIS: A man would never have had to go through this. That his husband -- that her husband with DWI 20 years ago, that her daughter is having a kid, that there's a fight going on between her sister and her husband and the husband tasered the kid.

HANNITY: Right.

MORRIS: It would never be asked about a man. It's the deep sexism that runs through our society.

HANNITY: What is going to be the net result of that?

MORRIS: Well, right now, the whole election hangs in the balance. If McCain has to get rid of Palin, get rid of McCain. He's dead.

Dick "The Toe-Sucking Prostitute" Morris knows as much about ethics as Sarah Palin knows about it!

This is a classic case of one liar calling another liar, a person of great conviction (there's a word Sarah might want to learn) and ethical standing.

The rightwing has out done itself yet agin......

I've seen a few videos of her on stage in front of her congregation urging her fellow congegation members to pray for this and that. She is exactly what I'm talking about when I call right wingers two faced phoneys. She will lie to achieve her goals and then has the nerve to stand up in church and profess her christianity as her driving force? I'd sure like someone to show me where in the bible it says it's ok to lie, cheat and steal to achieve Gods' will. I'd also like someone to point out how much of the republican platform actually is based on Gods' will.

I wonder if Republicans will forgive her?  My guess is... yes.

Now, if she had been a Democrat, she would have been impeached as Governor for lying.  Lying is very, very bad.  Especially when you do it to protect your family.

Sarah Palin is an outstanding VP choice...

I am concerned about the husband tasering another family member.  That's pretty bizarre.  We're starting to get into Springer Country here.  What if he loses it and goes on a taser rampage in the White House?

Maybe the whole family could appear on Doctor Phil?

The other problem is that Palin could possibly be prosecuted for the illegal firing of a safety official under Alaska law.

How do we know the brother in law used a tazer on a kid?  Because Sarah Palin or her sister alleged it?  Since we all know that one or both parties in a contentious divorce frequently exaggerate or lie about each other, I'd suggest not taking that story at face value.  In addition, some pundits are suggesting that Palin attempting to have her brother in law fired as a state trooper was OK, because he was a bad guy. My question is -- would a governor who's willing to abuse the powers of her office in an attempt to get her brother in law fired have any problem lying about him?  I think the answer is obvious.

I thought that Palin's husband had tasered someone's kid?  Still, I would like to know how many tasers are in the Palin's family, because this is concerning to the American people?  Tasering children I thought was a felony, if not attempted murder?

Okay, here's what I heard. The tasering incident was one of those situations where the kid wanted to see what it felt like and show how tough he was, so his dad foolishly obliged, with the taser dialed down to its lowest setting. Supposedly the kid said "do it again" when it was over. I just heard this from a caller on talk radio, so it may be total bullsh*t.... even though it sounds like behavior you might expect from a family of rednecks. "Hey, y'all, watch this!"

Well Nerz, it's part of the reich wing double standard. You see, for years the reich wing has been buying up control of cable and news, and through that ownership created a media outlet that has spewed their hate and venom against all things democratic for years now. Now some of those organizations have broken from their reich wing masters, and chose to be unbiased. That was unacceptable for the reich wing who demand all be black and white. If there were a third choice, independants might become well enough informed that they may choose their sides on their own. That scares the right wing, so they pushed hard. Some say too hard, because those same groups decided to go more left. Now some reich wing candidates are getting a fraction of the anger the left has suffered for years, and what does the reich wing do?

"It's sooo unfair to treat someone this way, and we can't for the life of us understand why you lefties don't support us in condemning this kind of mud slinging! Don't you believe in freedom of the press?"

          And the worm turns again...

      Whoa! Anybody hear about this???

Noonan, Murphy trash Palin on hot mic: 'It's over'

A segment with NBC's Chuck Todd ended today, Republican consultant Mike Murphy and Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan were caught on a live mike ridiculing the choice of Sarah Palin.

"It's over," said Noonan, and then responded to a question of whether Palin is the most qualified Republican woman McCain could have chosen.

"The most qualified? No. I think they went for this — excuse me — political bullsh** about narratives," she said. "Every time Republicans do that ... because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at and they blow it."

      Murphy chimed in:

"The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical."

I have a feeling this is what most Republicans really think.

As I wrote on another thread, if the GOP was smart they'd use McCain's choice of Palin for VP as proof that the guy should be committed to a mental institution. Then they could nominate another Presidential candidate.

            Jeter,

I agree with you, how can anybody not honestly believe this was a cynical pick.  Apparently she wasn't fully vetted, which is what the media is doing and they should since McCain didn't.  She is unqualified and inexperienced to be president, who can really argue that with a straight face.  I think McCain caved into the pressure from his evangelical base with this pick.  He figured she would so energize them they would flood to the polls, and she will be insulated from any firestorm as much as possible.  The dust settles and it's back to McCain vs Obama, with the extreme rightwing of the party waiting to pull the lever for a heroine of theirs.

What is appalling is that this "Christianists" are such one issue voters, as long as she is pro-life they are on board with her, forget the fact that she is uniquely unqualified.  It's so hypocritical and pathetic, they deserve to be beaten badly this fall.  McCain is just as pathetic, in my opinion.

I am sure she will rock the convention house tonight and her and her supporters will play the victim all fall, gee, can't wait.

I've heard that too, but what is the point?  If McCain wanted like Liebermann or another pro-choicer, his critics for that choice will be just as vocal down the road, unless doing it only for convention coverage, and a trial balloon.  Now that would be really be cynical, and a little ridiculous.  I can't see the upside, if anyone else can, I would be interested.

It's really not a negative that she's not experienced in national politics, and she does have some 'executive' experience, although no enough.

The reason she was picked was not because they wanted to make the far right happy. That's the reason they didn't pick Liebermann or Romney or some other moderate Republican.

She was picked because they felt the only way they could win was on the 'we are the candidates that will bring change to the White House'.

That's why McCain won the primary. Remember, he was way down, and then he convinced people with tomfoolery and distortions that he was a maverick and would be a great agent of change.

His strength got him nominated. But the distortions that got him nominated are turning out to be pretty thin right now after closer examination. The only way to strengthen that 'we are change' message was to bring a real outsider into the pairing.

It's her outsider status, it's her different tack that McCain chose. Alaska residents are different, and more independent, and less likely to fit in with the regular crowd, and it's that difference that McCain will push for the next two months.

Inspired pick in my view (unfortunately).  Want to see more of her though especially her acceptance speech tonight.

                  She has “it”.

She is physically attractive but not so that it’s distracting.  She was prim and proper in dress and demeanor with an earthy American heartland voice to match.  Self possessed and comfortable in her own skin, she gave her acceptance speech in a natural  relaxed manner, smiling easily.  She seemed to know her place was secondary, yet her body language was independent and reserved when interacting directly with Sen. McCain, showing respect for herself as well.  She was at home on the stage. We instinctively want to see our best rise to the top.  You want to like this person.  This all adds up to charisma potentially --- political gold.

Even her husband, likewise attractive with an easy smile and leading-man stature, seemed to be calmly taking it all in with the stride of a hail-fellow-well-met.  And the rest of her family was attractive to boot.  They will not be a drag, but an asset.  Appearances are so important.

On the bright side though in this case from my partisan Democratic viewpoint, women don’t age as well as men.  If I was thinking all of the above about a man, I’d be speculating very positively here on long term Presidential prospects.  Her real shot to climb the big rock candy mountain though is to win the Vice Presidency this time out, given her lack of experience.  If her ticket loses, by the time she would have the resume and the opening, it would likely be too late for her.

Personally, I found her speech snarky and annoying. Maybe it was something about that ear-piercing midwestern twang in her voice..... or just the condescending attitude... or the prancing Troglodytes in the audience.....not sure.

Careful, Jeter2, or you'll soon have Another American jumping all over you in defense of his beloved Sarah.

Either the guy is in love with her or he's being paid to sing her praises to the heights of heaven.

I think most of the reasonable cons here have expressed the same sentiments about Palin. (except for ANutterAmerican, of course, who has faithfully done his masters' bidding).

So, in the future, anytime I call any of you lovable wingnuts a complete Kool Aid drinker, you can remind me that you didn't fall for the Caribou Barbie scam.

All of you except AA. He'll probably explain that audio as misinterpreted or something.

Back to Dickie Boy's comment..... isn't that sort of like saying that Clinton was impeached for getting a BJ?

HANNITY: "Well, I got to tell you, one of the things that has emerged in this campaign, in my view, is -- Sarah Palin has been now in the public spotlight for five days. There have been tougher and harder questions that have been asked relentlessly by a biased news media about her daughter than about Barack Obama, who's been running for 19 months. "

      Are you F'ing kidding me?!?!?!?!??

I'm sorry i'm sure someone here can name the cable network which ran the false Madrassa story? Or the square headed twit of Irish extraction who said that he went to a radical black church and played the same 30 second clip every show for two weeks, what was his name again?

In his view?!?!?!?!? WTF is in his view, Monument valley? Herds of Bison sweeping majestically acroos the plains? Starbucks? Hannity has to be the most dishonest commentator on US television, and l include Andy Dick on that list.

Its a fierce competition to become the most dishonest comentator in our media. Specialy since they banned the use of Preperation H in the swimsuit event.

Dick, you've done it again. You wasted some of your precious breaths but said nothing.

Can we please have a poll to see who actually listens to this freak?

I think he'll score well with the TrailerTrash Reepublican crowd.
