SUMMARY: Radio host Bill Cunningham stated: "I think there will be 100 cities burning if Barack loses. Yeah, that's what the black intelligentsia says." Cunningham also asserted that "Flavor Flav, 50 Cent, and Diddy" are "really in charge of the [Obama] Inaugural [Ball]."

During the "Stooge of the Week" segment of the October 10 broadcast of The Big Show with Bill Cunningham, Cunningham hosted a frequent guest, who was identified as Miss C and as a supporter of Sen. Barack Obama, to discuss the role of race in the presidential election. During the conversation, Cunningham asked her, "If he [Obama] loses, are you gonna burn down this town?" Cunningham later said, "I think there will be 100 cities burning if Barack loses. Yeah, that's what the black intelligentsia says."

In addition, after repeatedly airing a clip throughout the broadcast from Flavor Flav's show, The Flavor of Love, that lays out the criteria for joining "The Pimp Legion of Doom" as driving a Cadillac and having a perm, Cunningham stated that "Flavor Flav, 50 Cent, and Diddy" are "really in charge of the [Obama] Inaugural [Ball]." Cunningham added: "It's going to be the best Inaugural. Normally you wear - you wear, you know, black tails, white -- this is going to be a rap concert. I mean, it's going to be the best ever."

From the October 10 broadcast of Clear Channel's The Big Show with Bill Cunningham:

CUNNINGHAM: What are you going to do if he loses, Miss C?

MISS C: He won't lose.

CUNNINGHAM: If he loses, are you gonna burn down this town?

MISS C: There's too many good white people tired of white men.

CUNNINGHAM: White people are tired of white men?

MISS C: Yes. Yes. We've had 43 white men presidents, and we're in the lowest point of history. Our stock markets, our money, home foreclosures -- white people cannot lead -- white men. Now it's time for them to get out the way.

[...]

CUNNINGHAM: Will this town burn down if he loses?

CO-HOST: I don't know. What do you think?

CUNNINGHAM: Yeah. I think there will be 100 cities burning if Barack loses. Yeah, that's what the black intelligentsia says.

[...]

ERIC DETERS (700 WLW radio host): Is it true, Willie, that you've been playing this Flavor Flav. Is he really in charge of the Inaugural?

CUNNINGHAM: Yeah. Flavor Flav, 50 Cent, and Diddy.

DETERS: Oh my God.

CUNNINGHAM: It's going to be the best Inaugural. Normally you wear - you wear, you know, black tails, white -- this is going to be a rap concert. I mean, it's going to be the best ever.

Why not just get campaign workers to pretend to be protesters and beat on the walls of the polling places to stop the vote count? That method seems pretty effective.

So Obama is going to deliver his inaugural speech wearing a Phat Pharm shirt and Sean John pants, both that are 3 sizes too big? And is Obama going to deliver that speech in ebonics? Will it contain language inappropriate for Don Imus?

Cunningham's entire understanding of the matter appears to be that Obama is the biggety-blackest blackety-black to ever black his way out of blacktown.

        What a tool.

I don't know about "100 cities burning", but if Obama carries his current numbers into November and loses, there would have to be some major fraud going on.  People should take to the streets and protest it, because if that's what our Democracy is, we're no better than some two-bit banana republic.

Tom Hartmann gave an interesting explanation of that on his radio show yesterday.  I forget the details, but he said that the whole "Republic" vs. "Democracy" debate is based in politics, going all the way back to the Federalist Papers.  According to him, our recent conventional wisdom about it has been pushed by the Republican Talkers, since "Republic" sounds like "Republican".

Is it true?  Sounds logical, but I haven't researched it myself.

I don't know how far back it goes, but the argument is so ludicrous that it can't be made for any genuine reason.  It seems obvious from the people who have pushed it on these boards that it's all about downplaying the "democracy" connection with "Democrat" and touting the "republic" aspect of "Republican".

Indeed, it is an entirely rhetorical argument meant to imply that Republicans are the only "true Americans" and Democrats have it all wrong.

Depending who you ask, the United States can be referred to as a Constitutional Federal Republic, a Democratic Republic, a Representative Democracy, or a Capitalist Republic.

Actually, I've read papers arguing all 4 at once.

Worrierking, obviously a republic is better than a democracy. A democracy is good enough for Iraq, and worth having Americans die for, but to bring a republic to iraq would be an assault on the traditional republic as we know it. The Republic has always been defined as between Americans, and if we start re-defining it to include "others", the next thing you know a man and a goat will be establishing a republic.

I hope that clears things up a little.

-- democracy to Iraq -- king

It appears that Iraq has covered all their bases. From the Iraq constitution:

-- The Republic of Iraq is a single, independent federal state with full sovereignty...

We the people of Iraq...are looking with confidence to the future through a republican, federal, democratic, pluralistic system... --

75% won't cut it. No matter what, they will claim it was either illegal aliens voting, election fraud because of ACORN, some lawsuit or a combination of them. It will never occur to them that McCain will lose because the republicans caved in to the bankrupt right wing who in turn showed the country what they really are and no one liked it.

Aside from having to re-read coninuing misunderstandings, how about what a good dictionary defines as...

Democracy: "A system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives."

Republic: "A state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch."

"State" was somewhat confusing until Webster's 1913 had this:

"In some ancient states called republics..."

So can one now deduce the difference between the two?
