Echoing smear emails, Halperin falsely suggested video shows Obama during "pledge of allegiance"
In an October 14 entry on his Time.com website, The Page, Time magazine's editor-at-large Mark Halperin falsely suggested that a photograph of Sen. Barack Obama in an anti-Obama television ad shows Obama without his hand over his heart during the Pledge of Allegiance. Halperin wrote that the ad, by the Our Country Deserves Better PAC, "hammers the Democratic presidential nominee with the kitchen sink and more: pledge of allegiance picture, Cuban flags, Palestinians, Hamas, and -- of course -- Reverend [Jeremiah] Wright." In fact, the ad -- which itself makes misleading claims -- does not show Obama during the "pledge of allegiance." A photo from the event, footage of which was included in the ad, appeared in Time with a caption indicating it was taken during the national anthem, not the Pledge of Allegiance.
In a November 2, 2007, item about a chain email referencing the Time photo, Washington Post "Fact Checker" Michael Dobbs noted: "Contrary to the e-mails attacking Obama for disrespecting the flag, the candidates were not reciting the pledge of allegiance. They were standing for the national anthem." Dobbs also wrote: "Asked whether Obama normally puts his hand over his heart while listening to the national anthem, Obama spokesman Bill Burton replied by e-mail: 'Sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't. In no way was he making any sort of statement, and any suggestion to the contrary is ridiculous.' " Indeed, other photos show Obama with his hand over his heart during the national anthem.
From Halperin's post on The Page, accessed on October 14 at 5:30 p.m. ET:

You all might need some of this during tonight's debate:
Have one for each piece of misinformation coming out of each candidate tonight.
http://www.drudgereport.com/flashotp.htm
At least this email from the Obama campaign informs how the msm, particulary the hacks at msnbc, will be covering the debate. Sounds exactly like Countdown.
Has McCain put out his ad saying he won tonight's debate yet?
Isn't inshannity going around telling evetybody mickey c. won? I know o'really will say mickey.c. won after the debate.
I actually just heard this weekend that the pledge of allegance is nothing more than a marketing ploy dreamed up by some company to sell more flags. What a scam.
It's rather humorous to see and hear all these conservatives getting all bent out of shape over a Pledge that was written by an avowed socialist........
Maybe the pledge was 'ghost-written' by Bill Ayers?
yes i think there is video of mr ayers and obama reciting it in arabic whlist blowing up abortion surviving babies and sodomising kittens
But it was still "good enough for the founding fathers."
:-D
She'll fight to keep "under god" in the Pledge but ignores the other lines, like "indivisible".
If she really believed in the whole thing, she would not have promoted the Alaska Independence Party's convention.
"indivisible"
Nice one, King. And completely ignored by the librul media.
WAY OFF TOPIC BUT VERY INTERESTING...News Flash Pittsburgh Pa...
Today at 2:05pm, management at KDKA Radio 1020AM, with the blessing of CBS the Parent Company, informed the host, Kevin Miller, that due to the tremendous amount of complaints concerning his childlike and totally biased antics on his show (not his opinions), that KDKA has offered Sen. Obama the three(3) hour show whenever he desires. The host will not be permitted to comment or even talk during the show.
Rigth away, the loyalists called in to his defense stating that this is the beginning of taking away Talk Radio. BUT, management did not censure Miller concerning his opinions, but mainly playing the Jeffersons theme song and other childlike voice overs. I have news for the loyalists, Sen. Obama will disapprove of this so-called Silencing and not even consider taking the microphone...too much class and too high of a road has been travelled. Mr. Miller has many contacts with Fox and CNN so look for him to be in-demand on the Hannity show etc....Mr. Miller has just been given a GOLDEN Parachute because he will be in demand.
Personally, I disagree with managements' decision because it only pours fuel on the fire...P.S. KDKA is very conservative..Can Rove be this smart? It will make National News..
I don't care if it is off-topic. I live and work in the 'Burgh, and I didn't know anything about that. I admit that I don't tune in much to KDKA radio much, or at all. I generally find any local radio DJs' attempts at humor to be lacking, except for the occasional bit from the DVE morning show.
Alas, even if Obama were to accept the invitation, I still probably wouldn't bother to tune in. And people like Miller do not deserve to be treated as martyrs.
I do not live anywhere near Pittsburgh, but I have listened to KDKA in the past, and I stopped after John McIntyre (hope I spelled his name right) was let go. In my opinion, he was a true progressive and a class act. Funny that the big talk-radio stations cannot fathom any progressive talkers
They are going to attempt to throw the kitchen sink at Obama the next 3 weeks, the Republicans wheels have come off they are desperate.
I'm not sure how many votes Obama could ever have hoped to get from the kind of individual who gets riled up over flag etiquette. Any 'undecideds' out there who want to weigh in with their outrage, or lack of it, over Obama standing with his hands folded at his waist during the national anthem?
(Sometimes my wife has to club me on the shoulder to remind me to even stand up. I guess I have qualms about adopting prescribed postures while reciting oaths, except when I am praying to God. When I get the feeling that I am surrounded by 40,000 baseball fans praying to the flag, that definitely turns me off. Am I the only one who finds all this flag worshipping pagan?)
I'm not a Christian, but I had the same thought back when they were getting all frothed up about flag burning. Doesn't the Bible forbid such idolatry?
Of course, many Conservatives only know about the parts of the Bible that support their own prejudices.
Nerzog,
"Praying to the flag" is ajzito's term, and it's ridiculous. Nobody prays to the flag, what people are doing is showing respect, for all the reasons one does so to our flag.
That being said, this is a non-issue where Obama is concerned, again. I have no doubt he respects the flag and what it stands for as much as anybody. More rightwing distractions.
I wish those on the right would get as weepy and defensive about the Constitution as they do about symbols like the flag and jingoistic anthems and pledges.
Trotting out stuff that didn't work in the past. I think we are at a stage where the american electorate is well informed these pundits exercise their right to express opinions above their job to report news ( the contemporary news ). We still have only one president, the war in Iraq, the war in Afghanistan, John McLoosecannon and his barbie doll, Cheney probably making deals with foreign gobvernments that are not in the national interest.
This came off of the GOP sacramento website:
Nice to see right wing christianity at it's finest...
I'm not sure I understand "BS" being the difference between the two. Is it saying that they're exactly the same? Is one of them a BSer?
Of course, John McCain says the remarks of Rep. Lewis mentioning Wallace are the worst thing he's ever seen in American politics, so I guess this stuff is just "humor".
OT, but what happened to the real solon? Whoever is using his name is no way the real solon.
science101 has also disappeared
Wolf, I think Science, as impervious as he seemed to be to reality , finally realized he jumped the shark when he proposed that aborted babies should be re-animated to sentence the parents who killed them to prison. If you missed the Zombie-feus justice squad post, you missed a humdinger.
This came off of the GOP sacramento website:
From what I've seen, it would be nearly impossible to find a similar graphic attacking McCain in the same way on any of the Democratic web sites out there. I've been to quite a few, and have never seen anything like that on ANY web site affiliated with any part of the Democratic Party.
As a Sacramentan, I am saddened, but not surprised, to see that our local morons have infiltrated the Sacramento GOP.
Let's hope the Maverick probes the issues that matter tonight. Heretofore Obama's has completely been given a pass by the msm regarding his unsavory associates. The only respected journalist to examine the issue, in depth, has been Sean Hannity.
It's now 3 weeks before the election and Obama still hasn't revealed himself. The question that must be answered tonight is, who is the real Barack Obama? Thus far Maverick's campaign has been playing it down the middle, but hopefully tonight Maverick will return to his Straight-Talk ways which we all know and love, and address head-on Obama's past. Let's cross our fingers . . .
Steve, Obama has answered the same questions hundreds of times..LOOK, if you don't believe him or trust him, that is fine..DO NOT VOTE FOR HIM.
As for your post, you must get a kick out of writing your opinions or attempts to draw someone into a conversation...You lost me at "respected journalist"...Seannie the Sissy. And Maverick, now that is funny.
Prince, you've gotta cut Hannity some slack, considerinf the difficult job he does. Can you imagine being the conductor of the Stop Radical Obama Express for several hours a day, and then having to completely wipe your mind clean of that, in just a few hours, to give Fair & Baanced analysis on Fox? That's a lot for one man to tackle.
I heard him doing some post-debate analysis after the last one, and Sean said to his co-loaf, as he prepared to comment, "I'm going to take off my partisan hat now..."
And I thought to myself, for most men, that would leave some hat hair. Not a trace with Hannity.
Once again Colonel, I apologize for saying something that may be considered unkind about Seanni the Sis...I won't say it. Now that I recall, he was also the Engineer for the Stop the Hilary Express. I think his hair stays in place because he wears his Engineer hat over his ears. Maybe he pulls his stop-chain a little too often which wears him out. By the way, his 7 year old daughter supports McCain and he never told her to say that. She sounded cute and will probably be the only kid in her class to have a total knowledge of the Weather Underground without prompting from her parents. Wonder what the little darling will be like when she gets older?
Wonder what the little darling will be like when she gets older?
If you missed the post-debate analysis on Fox, it was hilarious. Hannity and Mitt trying to convince each other that Grampy isn't insane.
OBAMA HASN"T REVEALED HIMSELF!!! Give me a break. He's done over 20 primary debates. He's written two books. He's been a State and Federal Senator. He's done dozens of interviews on TV, for newspapers, and on line. His background has been poured over witha a fine tooth comb, and the best they can come up with is a tenous connection to Ayers. He's had a website up for the TWO YEARS he's been running. Hasn't revealed himself. Give me a break. The only reason ANYONE has to say that is WILLFUL ignorance.
First uncross your frontal lobes. Does wonders for the ol blood supply.
I hope you get your wish and he's plenty fiesty, striking down strawmen, 1,2,3, ignoring questions, and just totally dissing his opponent. Its worked so well to this point innit?
Maybe you'll wake up tomorrow and realize that Pigboy LImbaugh is playing you for a sucker.
Let's cross our fingers...
I think the Maverick has seen better days. Even a visit to Earl Schibe's won't make his campaign more atractive to the voters.
Let him go out to pasture. It's time.

I guess you find it amusing to spout a bunch of right-wing talking points and then disappear.
The neocon cartel shows signs of imploding. If so to, continue the metifour, which would they end up as, a red drawf, nuetron star, or blackhole?
Well, they're already A-Holes....
