SUMMARY: The New York Times' Adam Nagourney wrote that Michael Steele "apologized to Rush Limbaugh on Monday after describing him ... as an 'entertainer' who made incendiary and sometimes ugly remarks, party officials said." But while Nagourney also noted that "Democrats -- including Rahm Emanuel, the White House chief of staff -- sought to portray Mr. Limbaugh as the new face of the Republican Party," he did not mention that Steele is not the only Republican to recently backpedal after criticizing Limbaugh even though Emanuel referenced another example just two days earlier.

In a March 2 New York Times article, reporter Adam Nagourney wrote that Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele "apologized to Rush Limbaugh on Monday after describing him in a television interview over the weekend as an 'entertainer' who made incendiary and sometimes ugly remarks, party officials said." But while Nagourney also noted that "Democrats -- including Rahm Emanuel, the White House chief of staff -- sought to portray Mr. Limbaugh as the new face of the Republican Party," he did not mention that Steele is not the only Republican to recently backpedal after criticizing Limbaugh, even though Emanuel referenced another example just two days earlier.

During the March 1 edition of CBS' Face the Nation, Emanuel stated of Limbaugh, "[W]henever a Republican criticizes him, they have to run back and apologize to him and say they were misunderstood." Emanuel also said of Limbaugh, "When a Republican did attack him, he was -- clearly had to turn around and come back and basically said that he's apologizing and was wrong."

Indeed, as blogger Greg Sargent noted, after Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-GA) stated that "it's easy if you're Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh or even sometimes Newt Gingrich to stand back and throw bricks," Gingrey issued a statement in which he sought to "clarify" his comments. Gingrey also asserted in the statement that "on so many of these things, I see eye-to-eye with Rush Limbaugh. Regardless of what yesterday's headline may have read, I never told Rush to back off." From Gingrey's statement:

As long as I am in the Congress, I will continue to fight for and defend our sacred values. I have actively opposed every bailout, every rebate check, every so called "stimulus." And on so many of these things, I see eye-to-eye with Rush Limbaugh. Regardless of what yesterday's headline may have read, I never told Rush to back off. I regret and apologize for the fact that my comments have offended and upset my fellow conservatives -- that was not my intent. I am also sorry to see that my comments in defense of our Republican Leadership read much harsher than they actually were intended, but I recognize it is my responsibility to clarify my own comments.

Now more than ever, we need to articulate a clear conservative message that distinguishes our values and our approach from those of liberal Democrats who are seeking to move our nation in the wrong direction. Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Newt Gingrich, and other conservative giants are the voices of the conservative movement's conscience. Everyday, millions and millions of Americans -- myself included -- turn on their radios and televisions to listen to what they have to say, and we are inspired by their words and by their determination. At the end of the day, every member of the conservative movement, from our political commentators and thinkers to our elected officials, share an important and common purpose in advancing the cause of liberty, reigning in a bloated federal government, and defending our traditional family values.

From the March 1 edition of CBS' Face the Nation:

EMANUEL: Going forward, the president has been very clear. He called on the national service bill that Senator [Edward] Kennedy [D-MA] and Senator [Orrin] Hatch, Republican for Utah, had proposed. He has been clear about wanting a stem-cell legislation that a number -- like Senator [Arlen] Specter, Republican from Pennsylvania, as well as Senator [Tom] Harkin, a Democrat from Iowa. So we will continue to reach out, as we did in the fiscal summit this -- earlier this week, as we will in the health care summit on Thursday.

SCHIEFFER: Let me ask you this question --

EMANUEL: But our goal, our goal, Bob, is to continue to reach out. And it's our desire that the Republicans would work with us and try to be constructive, rather than adopt the philosophy of somebody like Rush Limbaugh, who's praying for failure.

SCHIEFFER: Rush Limbaugh. We've talked about Newt Gingrich a lot this morning, and now you bring up Rush Limbaugh. Who do you think now speaks for the Republican Party?

EMANUEL: You just named him. It was Rush Limbaugh. I mean, he has laid out his vision, in my view, and he said it clearly, and I compliment him for that. He's been very upfront and I compliment him for that, because he's not hiding.

He's asked for President Obama and called for President Obama to fail. That's his view. And that's what he's enunciated. And whenever a Republican criticizes him, they have to run back and apologize to him, and say they were misunderstood.

He is the voice and the intellectual force and energy behind the Republican Party. And he has been upfront about what he views, and hasn't stepped back from that, which is he hopes for failure. He said it. And I compliment him for his honesty, but that's their philosophy that is enunciated by Rush Limbaugh. And I think that's the wrong philosophy for America, because what Americans want us to do and what President Obama has been very clear about is work together, setting our goals. We may take different roads to get to that goal, but be clear on what we have to do to build this country, by investing in our people, make -- changing the health care system, having an energy independence policy that clearly weans America off its dependence on foreign oil --

SCHIEFFER: Do you really think he's that important, that other Republicans are paying that much attention to him?

EMANUEL: Well, he was given the keynote, basically, at the Conservative Caucus to speak. When a Republican did attack him, he was -- clearly had to turn around and come back and basically said that he's apologizing and was wrong. And I do think he's an intellectual force, which is why the Republicans pay such attention to him.

Right on the money, Rahm. A day later, Michael Steele apologizes. It's really pretty funny the way Repblicans are kissing the Limbaugh ring to suck up to the lunatic right wing fringe. What's next...Sarah Palin apologizing to Rush for having impure thoughts about him? The Republican Party is a train wreck and they keep rolling on the same track...praying that the economy doesn't recover. In that regard, let me add that Republicans obviously were not listening to Obama when he said that, according to his economic advisers, the economy would actually get worse before it started getting better...thus the need for immediate action.

I think it would be funny if liberals started e-mailing Rush, en masse, their apologies for every ill word spoken and every bad thought entertained about him...followed by the declaration that he is a great leader.

I'm also considering having bumper stickers printed up saying...

        I'M SORRY, RUSH!

I would like to take this opportunity to point out that this pattern of Rush-bashing followed by apologies is unacceptable and must stop immediately.

I think a round of pre-emptive apologies to Rush from the entire GOP is called for here, and the true de-facto leader of the RNC would be wise to start the ball rolling ASAP.

          How's this?

          Dear Mr. Limbaugh Sir,

I wish to profusely apologize for telling the following joke at a party recently: "What is the difference between Rush Limbaugh and the the Hindenberg? One is a fat, old, nazi bag of hot gas, and the other was a dirigible."

My words were poorly chosen, and were not intended to offend. But if you took offense, I am sorry for that. By the way, its too bad we cannot have a sense of humor about these things.

The Republitoads are quite pathetic these days.  Can you imagine what Blimpaugh would say if Howard Dean apologized for criticizing Michael Moore?

This is good news for the Democrats, but it's potentially bad news for the country.  If the economy continues to tank, the Republicans could easily be back in charge by 2013.  If that happens, the Republican party that emerges will be Rush Limbaugh's party.

I shudder to think of it.

On a positive note...Rush Limbaugh is usually wrong about everything. It will take some time before we see how much the economy turns around and therefore 2012 could get a little hairy. But I think Limbaugh and the hot air he's pumping into a moribund conservative movement will implode before too long. Limbaugh will offend many people in the process of firing up his base.

But...I'd like to apologize to Rush for my remarks just in case. Rush is a great leader...  ;>)

I understand that Rush and Ann Coulter and some of the other entertainers at CPAC do have some influence over the far-right fringe of the GOP, but it is amazing that they're considered serious thinkers by many mainstream Republicans.

I saw several segments of the CPAC on the teevee, and it really came off as similar to a Star Trek convention, or a meeting of video gamers or hardcore Renaissance Faire enthusiasts -- every bit I saw seemed to be taking place in a completely different reality than what normal people are living in.

wow. and here i didn't think that all of the fixed news talking points couldn't be lumped in together.

here is a counter argument so class is in session and be prepared to be schooled.

        1. Holder's nomination wasnt rushed. the republican party tried to fight it as long as they could.

        2. while not being an agency guy, leon panetta was chief of staff to bill clinton. and being chief of staff was involved on a daily basis with the presidential daily intelligence briefing, having sat in on each of them. here is a quote for you:

"David Ignatius, a reporter, said that Panetta did have tangential exposure to intelligence operations as Director of the OMB and as Chief of Staff for President Clinton, where he "sat in on the daily intelligence briefings as chief of staff, and he reviewed the nation's most secret intelligence-collection and covert-action programs in his previous post as director of the Office of Management and Budget"

thats from wikipedia. oh and by the way he doesn't have a daughter, he has three sons. the woman your talking about isnt even closely related, here is a little tidbit for ya

        http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/is_leon_panettas_daughter_a_radical_anti-american.html

3 as for most corrupt secretary of state? well i would simply referr you to Dick Kempthorne, that would be the former Secretary of Interior who used taxpayer money to remodel his bathroom with a near full kitchen.

aside from that hillary worked a deal with regard to bill's charty organizations and that all donors would be listed with ranges of donations.

        4. for your assertation about Secretary Solis, well, your just plain wrong. she did not withdraw her nomination but was one of the last to be confirmed. which occured just last week. so again your lying. and your wrong.

"On February 24, 2009, Solis was confirmed by the Senate by a vote of 80–17"-wikipedia

and finally your last lesson for today. what we have is a plan to get out iraq, stabilize afghanistan and get out of there. no secret prisons where anyone, including you and me, could be taken to and tortured and not have any rights whatsoever. no more torturing prisoners, obeying of the LAW. and no President trying to hide the fact that we are fighting two military conflicts from his budgets. so that is what we have liebuster.

go back to your neo con friends and tell them you tried and failed to spread your misinformation and lies. go back to blogging on townhall.com, thepowerline, and conservapedia. and back to reading the washington times and wall street journal. and watch fox noise for your news. and leave this site to those of us who have serious points to make.

        hope you enjoyed being SCHOOLED.

LIMBAUGH: “So I am an entertainer and I have 20 million listeners because of my great song and dance routine,” Limbaugh said. “Michael Steele, you are head of the Republican National Committee. You are not head of the Republican party. Tens of millions of conservatives and Republicans have nothing to do with the Republican National Committee…and when you call them asking for money, they hang up on you.

STEELE: “My intent was not to go after Rush – I have enormous respect for Rush Limbaugh,” Steele said in a telephone interview. “I was maybe a little bit inarticulate. … There was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership.” […]

“I went back at that tape and I realized words that I said weren’t what I was thinking,” Steele said. “It was one of those things where I thinking I was saying one thing, and it came out differently. What I was trying to say was a lot of people … want to make Rush the scapegoat, the bogeyman, and he’s not.”

There ya have it, Rush, in his own words, is a leader, not an entertainer. And Steele was just another republican uncle tom.

Man what a website, that shiznit belongs in cartoons. These are people who rant a rave about people driving up to soup lines in $60,000 mercedes, how people will become lazy by receiving Gobermint checks, and how minorities have tooo many babies and how ev-very-body cept them is getting somethin' for nothin', especially them "coloreds" with their affirmative action, yet their ready to elect a high school graduate as President?!?!?Maybe a con here can tell us what life or educational experiences Rush Limpo has had that makes him a darn authority on everything in the world? They cherish and celebrate ignorance it seems.  Col. said they just decided to stop thinking, I agree, and thats why their funny but dangerous.  Hoping Obama to fail as if the world would be the same except we'd have a different party in charge.  No, NO...Can you imagine how much pressure would be placed on fragile governments around the world, and how a right wing controlled US government would play nationally and internationally.  If you read the stories coming out about the John Yo and his justification for suspending the 1st and 4th admendments??  I read one analyst that siad those memo's meant that from late 01 to Jan. 19,09 we were basically under a dictatorship.  I read this at "thinkProgress.com.":

2001 Bush legal memo allowed ‘First Amendment speech and press rights’ to be ’subordinated.’

Yesterday, Attorney General Eric Holder released several Bush administration Office of Legal Counsel memos, which show the astonishing extent to which the administration expanded its wartime powers. An October 2001 memo from John Yoo, for example, states that the “Fourth Amendment would not apply” for domestic military operations. The memo also restricted basic First Amendment rights:

yoo.jpgIn perhaps the most surprising assertion, the Oct. 23, 2001, memo suggested the president could even suspend press freedoms if he concluded it was necessary to wage the war on terror. “First Amendment speech and press rights may also be subordinated to the overriding need to wage war successfully,” Yoo wrote in the memo entitled “Authority for Use of Military Force to Combat Terrorist Activity Within the United States.”

Freedom of speech is integral to a free society,” President Bush said in May 2008. After reading the memos, Harpers’ Scott Horton wrote, “We may not have realized it at the time, but in the period from late 2001-January 19, 2009, this country was a dictatorship.”

Boy, he didn't just bend over, he was taken again and again by the entire republican party!

The war of words between Michael Steele and Rush Limbaugh took a turn for the worse even if Steele begged for forgiveness as GOP insiders are telling Steele to STFU or he'll be fired.

Hahahahahahhaaaaa! Limbaughs' monkeys, attack! Put that uppity uncle tom down!

It's sad, but not unexpected, that conservatives would want this Hitler wanna be as their spokesman. The parallels between Adolf and Rush are creepy.

The funny thing is that Troglodytes like Lying Buster up there had been comparing Obama to Hitler because of his public speaking ability.  Then their God Blimpaugh gets on stage in all black and makes a propaganda speech, gesticulating frantically and whipping his drooling sycophants into a mindless frenzy.

        Now, which is more Hitleresque?

It was only a matter of time before Steele kissed the ring of Limbaugh.  No republican can get away with criticizing their leader.

Here are the words from the man RUSH LIMBAUGH on socialism..

      READ AND HEED

here are some variations on the definition of socialism.

"Any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods." Meaning the government in charge of all food, the government in charge of banks, the government in charge of energy -- and you need to ask yourself: Given who government is today (it's majority Democrat) you have to look and say, "Well, when they've run things, have they succeeded? Is there any evidence to suggest that they know what they're doing?" No. In fact, they gave us the subprime crisis. They have given us a permanent underclass of people in poverty in this country. The Democrat Party has done this.

Another definition: "A system of society or group living in which there's no private property. A system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state." Number three: "A stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done." So you think that if Obama and his boys get total control that they're going to be fair, everybody is going to be the same, and outcomes will be equal. Wrong. Their buddies are going to do fine. Their buddies won't even have to pay taxes, like they don't have to now. But you're not going to do so well. So those are the basic tenets of socialism. We throw it around, but I don't think a lot of people take it more than government in charge of everything. It's far worse than that. I mean, government being in charge of things is bad.

RUSTZA, Here's a definition for you, SOCIALISM: A system whereby the means of production are controlled by the workers.(instead  of the greedy CEO'S.) Dosent sound too bad to me.

In a way, this is not surprising.  Blimpo is a valuable commodity for the GOP.  He is a defacto 15 hour per week infomercial for their wacko agenda.  He is not subject to campaign regulations, so they are free to pay him as much as they wish to do carry their water.

They have created a monster that now has power over them, and he's not afraid to use it for his own aggrandizement.

Since Rush is the only part of the Republican machine that still works, they have to bend over backwards and kiss his a$$.  Otherwise, he might punish them by telling his drooling minions to stay home next election day.
