SUMMARY: Lou Dobbs claimed that "President Obama's honeymoon with Americans on the economy appears to be at an end," asserting that the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll showed that "only 54 percent of Americans say the president has the right goals and policies for this country." However, the survey results for the same question from the previous two months' polls are nearly identical.

On the March 4 edition of CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight, host Lou Dobbs claimed that "President Obama's honeymoon with Americans on the economy appears to be at an end; the president failing to win broad support for his economic policies, despite his personal popularity." Dobbs continued: "The latest Wall Street Journal/NBC poll showing only 54 percent of Americans say the president has the right goals and policies for this country." However, contrary to Dobbs' assertion that the February WSJ/NBC News poll shows that Obama's "honeymoon with Americans on the economy appears to be at an end," the survey results for the same question from the January and December polls are nearly identical.

The WSJ/NBC poll, conducted February 26-March 1, asks respondents: "And how confident are you that Barack Obama has the right set of goals and policies to be president of the United States?" The respondents who answered "extremely confident" and "quite confident" totaled 54 percent, the figure Dobbs cited. But the same percentage of respondents answered "extremely confident" or "quite confident" when the poll was conducted in January and December. Indeed, the results for those responses have not changed significantly over the past three polls.

From the February 26-March 1, 2009, WSJ/NBC poll:

From the January 9-12, 2009, WSJ/NBC poll:

Contrary to Dobbs' claim that the poll showed that Obama's "honeymoon with Americans on the economy appears to be at an end," the March 4 Wall Street Journal article accompanying the poll asserted that "President Barack Obama enjoys widespread backing from a frightened American public for his ambitious, front-loaded agenda, a new poll indicates":

He is more popular than ever, Americans are hopeful about his leadership, and opposition Republicans are getting drubbed in public opinion, the new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll suggests.

From the March 4 edition of CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight:

DOBBS: Good evening, everybody. President Obama's honeymoon with Americans on the economy appears to be at an end; the president failing to win broad support for his economic policies, despite his personal popularity. The latest Wall Street Journal/NBC poll showing only 54 percent of Americans say the president has the right goals and policies for this country.

Speaking for myself, there has been no honeymoon.

It's been one long, post-inaugural ball hangover.

Yep, for 8 years the press told us that Bush inherited a recession but Obama's honeymoon is over in a month. Could you guys at least be subtle about being bought off?

I don't think it's that they're bought off.  They're simply overpaid.  Put millionaires in the position of reporting and analyzing the news, and this is what you get.

          And that said pete592...

Would it not be a nice change of pace to have a media similiar to what it was before Ronnie Raygun came in and demolished the concept of a free media when he allowed multi-nationals to start buying said media!

As much as I like Olbermann and Maddow... the only two decent faces on TV 'news' ... their power is limited by what they can say in not upsetting the bosses ... lets face it... that is not a free media... that is a bought and paid for media that does what multi-nationals want.

Its not about the truth as it is about profit. Any one that defends that is not a believer in America.

Did you watch the Daily Show, yesterday? John Stewart showed all these clips from CNBC featuring their bad advance and their idiotic prognostication of AIG, Bear Sterns stocks:

I hope no one will take any of these "expert's" advice on anything.

Oh, they are definitely lazy and greedy but it's worse than that. The same press that couldn't seem to find the Downing Street memo or evidence of torture is suddenly obsessed with investigating the president.

Amazing. Obama crushed mccain in a landslide, and these clowns claim he eked out a bare victory. Bush lost the popular vote, it's a mandate. Liberal press, huh?

I liked all the calls of "he's a fascist loser" and "he needs to be removed from office immediately". Yeah, that's really upholding the constitution...

This is my favorite:"How far will the country have to fall before they remove this guy from office? The best get on the ball before he establishes his civilian army"

Total lunacy.  As if anyone can turn an economy around in a few weeks.  And I wouldn't be surprised if that person reacted to people who criticized Bush's lies for war, warrantless wiretapping and torture policy with "Bush Derangement Syndrome".

There was a time not long ago that I said that people like Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, and all of FoxNoise were the continuous gifts that keep on giving...

And then I followed the link to Freepers that the good Col. offered...

And now I realize that there really are some of our fellow citizens that can't survive without the help of the rightwing blowhards holding the hook in their collective noses...

              Scary indeed!

Let's face it: the fascists have a virtual stranglehold on the media. What's left of the free press are remmants. Even as radio and tv commentators howl about the "liberal media," the print media is in the process of collapse despite efforts over the last decade to emulate right wing propaganda machine. Perhaps FOX set the pace, but CNN is right upt there with them and even the it seems that ABC, CBS and NBC are following suit. The only source of critical thinking and questioning comes from comedians! We're in a pattern frighteningly similar to Germany of the 1930's. With the election of Obama, we may forstalled the march to dictatorship in which we were headed. But that doesn't mean that we've muted the voices who want to lead us down that path.

My honeymoon with Lou Dobbs ended long ago. I'd check my watch if he gave me the time.
