Despite declaring "I'm not so concerned in what gifts wealthy people are giving each other," Hannity repeatedly discussed iPod gift
SUMMARY: Shortly after declaring, "I'm not so concerned in what gifts wealthy people are giving each other," Sean Hannity teased a segment of his show by saying, "You won't believe what Obama uploaded on the queen's iPod before he handed that over to her." Hannity also repeatedly discussed the iPod gift throughout the previous day's edition of his show.
On the April 2 edition of his Fox News show, Sean Hannity told Daniel Hannan, a British Conservative Party member of the European Parliament, "Perhaps there's too much fixation on gifts and what Michelle Obama is wearing and meeting the queen -- a little alien to me in as much as, you know, people are suffering. I'm not so concerned in what gifts wealthy people are giving each other, nor am I concerned what the first lady is wearing." But immediately after his interview with Hannan, Hannity teased a segment in which he criticized President Obama's gift of an iPod to Queen Elizabeth II, stating, "You won't believe what Obama uploaded on the queen's iPod before he handed that over to her. That coming up next." Moreover, during the April 1 edition of his show, Hannity also concerned himself with the gift, opening his show with a monologue titled "The Queen and the iPod," and repeatedly addressing the iPod gift throughout the show.
During the April 2 segment on the iPod, Hannity stated, "[S]ince I'm sure the queen can never catch your speeches on television or anywhere else, she's probably so grateful that you uploaded them on her iPod, now she can access you whenever her heart desires. How thoughtful." While discussing the iPod gift during the April 1 show, Hannity said that Obama's iPod gift "seems emblematic of this administration's inability to deal with the leaders of the rest of the world." On April 1, Hannity also asked, "Don't you think we've had one bad gift for a world leader too many? Didn't there come a point where they need to get their act together?"
Additionally, on April 2, Hannity repeatedly aired graphics referencing the iPod gift:

Further, Hannity aired the following graphic on April 1:

From the April 2 edition of Fox News' Hannity:
HANNITY: Well we certainly do share values, and Great Britain has always been our closest ally, and that the values in this world, especially in a world of terrorism, I think, are ideal. Perhaps there's too much fixation on gifts and what Michelle Obama is wearing and meeting the queen -- a little alien to me in as much as, you know, people are suffering. I'm not so concerned in what gifts wealthy people are giving each other, nor am I concerned what the first lady is wearing. Are we spending too much time and attention, and putting too much focus on that?"
HANNAN: Well except in so far as it was seen to be a snub when Obama was kind of slapping Brown around, and, you know, believe me, Brown is not popular in this country. We all know that he's a ninny but people kind of felt bad that he was being slapped around by Obama when we would rather that we slap him around.
[...]
HANNITY: Daniel, I'm hoping one day you -- I get to introduce you as Mr. Prime Minister. Thanks for being with us. Appreciate it.
HANNAN: Thanks, Sean.
HANNITY: And coming up, as Israel watches the Obama administration meet with Iran, it says it will deal with that threat on its own. Colonel Oliver North is here with analysis. Plus, you won't believe what president Obama uploaded on the queen's iPod before he handed that over to her. That coming up next.
[...]
HANNITY: Finally tonight, we told you yesterday about the video iPod that president Obama gave the queen of England. What we didn't tell you is what videos he uploaded on the device before giving it to her. Now, ABC News' Jake Tapper reports that our always humble president uploaded his own speeches onto the device before handing it over to the queen. But the real question is, did he include some of these epic moments for her royal highness' viewing pleasure?
[begin video clip]
OBAMA: You send a kid to the emergency room for a treatable illness like asthma, they end up taking up a hospital bed, it costs -- if they just gave -- you gave them treatment early, and they got some treatment, and a breathalyzer or an inhalator -- not a breathalyzer. I haven't had much sleep in the last 48 hours, so -- if they had an inhalator, inhaler -- I'm still stumbling over this word.
OBAMA: I bowled a 129. I -
LENO: No, that's very good. Yeah. That's very good, Mr. President.
OBAMA: it was like Special Olympics or something.
OBAMA: You start asking, well, what is it exactly that is such a problem that you're seeing? Where's all this waste in spending? Well, you know, you want to replace the federal fleet with hybrid cars. Well, why wouldn't we want to do that?
[end video clip]
HANNITY: All right, since I'm sure the queen can never catch your speeches on television or anywhere else, she's probably so grateful that you uploaded them on her iPod, now she can access you whenever her heart desires. How thoughtful. And that is the news tonight from Hannity's America.
From the April 1 edition of Fox News' Hannity:
HANNITY: All right, we know your hearts all stopped there for a moment during our little April Fools' Day joke. But the world is not coming to an end or maybe it is because the president's adventures in foreign policy, well, they continue today.
And that is our headline this Wednesday night, day number 72 of socialism spread around the world, "The Queen and the iPod." Now while it wasn't the most important detail from the day's events in London, the president's latest gift gaffe seems emblematic of this administration's inability to deal with the leaders of the rest of the world.
Now the Obamas, they had tea with Her Majesty today and presented her with an iPod, but here's the problem. She already had one. Now it might seem like a minor detail, you know, the kind that a 6-year-old would have known after two minutes on Google, but after the Obamas provoked outrage with their gift of DVDs to Prime Minister Gordon Brown earlier this year, well, you would think that they would be extra careful.
But the administration's tin ear after the last slight of our closest ally is just the latest episode in the administration's not understanding the mood of the globe as they continue to press for an unprecedented redistribution of wealth.
Now, I'm not saying that they necessarily have to listen to the left-wing anarchists rioting in the streets, but this president ran on a platform of engagement with Europe and rebuilding America's image abroad. Now we sure have come a long way from the Brandenburg Gate last summer.
[...]
HANNITY: Now just to stay on the lighter side for a second as we get into more serious issues, you would think that, you know, for example, Kathleen Sebelius, another tax cheat, that they would get their act together. You would think after the Gordon Brown DVD present that maybe they would have been a little bit more thoughtful as it relates to the iPod. I thought that was an April Fools' joke.
STEYN: Yeah, I think it's pretty pathetic. I mean, in fairness to the Obamas, this wasn't just the discount movie set from Wal-Mart like they did with Gordon Brown. They gave the Queen an engraved iPod. I think it might have been a better joke if they had given her an engraved teleprompter. That might have been an appropriate gift from President Obama.
But I think basically it doesn't matter to them that much. They don't think in those terms. And that's what's interesting. This guy who claimed to be a citizen of the world at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin actually pretty much takes the view that the world can go hang when it comes to it.
[...]
HANNITY: Rough day in London for the G-20. Also, what is wrong with in the last two days, before you even get started on this. You can't even nominate, Obama, somebody who's not a tax cheat, and you can't even think of a creative, thoughtful, appropriate gift for, you know, prominent world leaders.
MICHAEL RODRICK (actor): They're protesting over the iPod. I think that's --
HANNITY: Is that what they're protesting?
RODRICK: According to the news today, I think they're protesting over the iPod.
HANNITY: Apparently, he put Broadway hits. I would protest the thought of having --
RICH LOWRY (National Review editor): She should be grateful it's not just a Shuffle. I hope it was like a big iPod. It wasn't just one of those little Shuffles, was it?
RODRICK: If you're going to have a protest, you need to do it in South Korea. The G-20 should always be in South Korea. 'Cause the South Koreans suit up in that Teenaged Mutant Turtles and --
HANNITY: But Peter [Johnson Jr., Fox News legal analyst], you and I often disagree on some substantive issues here. I mean, don't you think we have had one tax cheat a little too many? Don't you think we've had one bad gift for a world leader too many? Didn't there come a point where they need to get their act together?

I'm more focused on Hannity's implication that Obama was on his way home from work one day, and suddenly thought "Oh crap! I need to pick up something for the queen".
After stopping by Best Buy, swiping his debit card for an IPOD, driving back and descending into the basement of the Whitehouse, with a liter bottle of diet Coke and a bag of Doritos by his side, uploaded various songs and vids of his own speeches from his Gateway.
Of course, thinking that's the picture Hannity et al want to paint is preposterous...
Great point!
Sheer Insannity's idea of an appropriate present is a gift certificate he received as an advertising trade-out that he can hand out to a fawning caller sucking up to him, making him look like such a big guy and generous person, and it didn't cost him one cent!
I would agree. I can see putting one speech on there, just as sample material, but unless there was a request for it or some reason to think that she would be especially interested in those speeches, that does come off as egotistical.
Like her Mum giving a picture of herself. Aren't there rules of Protocol where these things are discussed in advance? Is Hannity sure that this stuff wasn't cleared by the Queen Mum?

Plus a bunch of Broadway hit songs.
So, it makes sense to me. He gives her a video iPod. He downloads music and pictures of herself, and video of himself to give her a mixture of photos, music and video to choose from.
It's a gift from a US President to the Queen of England, so it has US songs, photos of the Queen in the US, and video of the US President who gave her the iPod.
I don't see any issue with this gift. Who cares what's on the iPod? Who cares that the president gave her an iPod?
Evidently conservatives have so little to offer and so little to talk about, they have to discuss the most trivial of things.
Cons, you're stupid. The lot of you.
I agree with you. It's a personal gift from one person to another, just because of who they are doesn't change that. it's nobody's business and criticizing it is just petty.
just remember this is what they do day after day. nit pick worthless stuff
if you're referring to Fox, it's one of the reasons I don't watch them.
Do you think that maybe SEANIE BOY is jelous that he didnt get a gift from the PRESIDENT?
And this coming from the same person who just yesterday, was offended that someone else called all smokers stupid? Nice job.
was there a point to this aside from just getting in the last word jab?
Just pointing out hypocracy, that's all.
well thats his opinion and he is entitled to it.
i personally, being a smoker myself, realize perfectly that it is stupid for me to be smoking.....i still do it anyway. despite seeing my grandfather waste away because of it, and my father starting to show early signs of gettin sick from his 20 year habit.
see
the mannity is upset because bush was hated by the queen and obama is loved by the queen.
Kukla has expressed more honesty than this Ollie every could
Ooh! A cultural reference for we old folks! Cool! :-)
The Mannity is a complete fool - he whines when he cannot get his guests to attack the President or the Administration. He is just one miserable human who does not have the intellect to discuss anything of substance. He does not understand what is going on so he has to talk about an iPod. What a louse.
I kind of wish this iPod stuff could be cited here in the context of what it truly is and truly means: it's just a fluffy inane distraction from the actual substance of the G20 Summit, and from the results of the closed door sessions of that Summit, which were described in the communique that the twenty delegations collectively issued following those meetings, which called for Regulatory reform of the financial services and banking industries, most notably in the U.S., and called for other things too...
Whew!
What extraordinary effort it is and was, to type out and comprehend the concept of the G20 Summit, and what it resulted in!
Whew!
No wonder people are going on and on and on ad infinitum, about the distractionary nonsense of iPods and touching the Queen etc.
Again, if these citations could spare and spend just the several words to idientify what all this iPod obssessiveness is actually distracting you from, that would be nice... it would be constructive and positive and forward-looking.
It's one thing to go for the "head fake", and another thing to keep going for it... but please, every once in a while, why not bother to note what it is your head is being faked away from?
Whew!
your preaching to the choir.
but unfortunatly you are hoping for something that as long as roger ailes, rupert murdoch and every reporter and commentator at Fixed Nosie is still working there, will never ever happen
HANNITY is not only a far RIGHT WING idiot, but he is jelous of OBAMA'S popularity.
That Hannity is allowed to sit in front of a TV camera is all that is needed to prove beyond doubt that FoxNoise is a waste of time!
Same can be said for basically... the entire team of bobbleheads over at the Noise machine!
Hey FoxNoise,
Do us all a favor and pull your lower lip over your collective heads.... and swallow!
CAPT , Right on, couldent have said that better myself.
Interesting observation
Hannity and the right-wing trogs are just upset because the Obamas are way more popular with the Queen (and England!) than Bush ever was...
Such petty crap...
are you surprised....don't forget who was one of his biggest radio advertisers.......Alan Stanford.
do you really think the mannity would speak out against them?
snoop, good point.
Snoop,
Where in the world have you been. I have been awaiting this little nugget of yours.
"In an effort to avoid long drawn out bantering with the few who will defend Megyn to the last breath I've started putting together a book of cued "defenses". Expect to see 1, 2, 4, 7 and 9 given most frequently. ;)"
Hey shoes, maybe republicans should invest in an image coordinator next election. In fact, I know they should because they value image so much. So in the interest of hoping the next election is actually competitive, I've found you the perfect candidate, and even arranged an image coordinator to boot! Enjoy the perfect republican candidate!
oh my one of the sheep has been let loose again.
Rush! get out here and get this one back in his pen
It's called "hypocrisy".
This is not ony stupid and trivial, it's tone-deaf.
Most Americans will see absolutely nothing wrong with giving her an iPod--even without the additional knowledge that she'd asked for one.
Suddenly Hannity is not just aright-wing ranter--he's a geezer.
The reaction of most folks under 30 would be "Well, but was it a Touch? Should have been a Touch." and be entertained with visions of the Queen tilting the thing around as she navigates the ski-slopes.
And there's Hannity, belt up to his chest, screaming at Obama to get off of his lawn...
He may not be so concerned with it. But he obviosly believes his audience is or he would not talk about it. I am not too concerned with whether or not certain things at my job gert done but my boss is so I do them.
Futhermore, whoever is in charge of getting State Gifts for the Obama Admonistrations needs to be reassigned and someone else take their place. It is just embarrassing.
as i understand it the queen asked for the ipod....now weather or not it is loaded with only obama speeches i highly doubt
Funny you don't mention the other gift. The signed copy of the Richard Rogers songbook. Clearly something the Queen appreciates and valued much higher than an iPod.
You should be embarrasses. To allow someone like Hannity to do your thinking for you.
well at least they didn't put rich lowerly fawning over sarah palin after the VP debate.
Sean Hannity: the quintessential petulant moron?
I report, you decide.
Some say Hannity is the. dumbest. guy. in. media. It has been reported that Hannity gave - as gifts - tickets to his freedom concerts. America wants to know: does giving away free tickets to a charity event a undermine benevolence, or is it merely the ignorant actions of an erstwhile carwash employee?
what choice is there? i mean come on its an obvious answer.
Hannity enjoys the dark, damp, and cold. We are in a recession, no doubt. Why not enjoy flowers? If the Queen Mother receives a gift, it is a gift. Mr. Hannity wants to cloud our world with a false doom-and-gloom scenario. Never mind a smile, who cares about optimism,(-ism), and what good there may be is pointless. Is it self-loathing? He is being controversial to gain attention. What would he given the Queen? Scare tactics?
Maybe Hannity wanted Obama to give her a copy of the photo of W. on the aircraft carrier with the "Mission Accomplished" banner behind him.
Is anyone else sick and tired of Sheer Insannity ranting about "tax cheats?" Apparently in his world-view its a major sin to cheat on your taxes, but if you cheat on your wife - Newt, Sen. McCain, "Dick" Morris, et. al. - that's cool. No reason to bring that up! Oh - and how many times has Ole BlunderRush been married? Guess he's never been accused of cheating - unless drug use and binge eating counts...
