"Busted?" Fox News still running with Obama G8 photo story day after Van Susteren debunked it

July 10, 2009 11:19 am ET

SUMMARY: A day after Fox News host Greta Van Susteren debunked the "lying picture that's going around the Web" of President Obama purportedly "checking out" a young woman at a G8 photo shoot, Fox News continued to promote the insinuation that Obama had done so.

On the July 9 edition of Fox News' On the Record, host Greta Van Susteren aired video of President Obama at a photo shoot featuring G8 leaders and junior G8 delegates which she said debunked the "lying picture that's going around the Web" of Obama purportedly "checking out" a young woman at that event. Nonetheless, on July 10, Fox News continued to promote the insinuation that Obama had done so. For instance, Fox & Friends aired a caption stating as fact that Obama took a "sneak peek" at a "beauty's backside," while Fox Nation repeatedly highlighted the "lying picture" using headlines such as "Busted?" and "Girl Obama Was Checking Out is 17?"

From the July 10 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends:

Golly, this is just as big a story as the iPod the United States gave the Queen of England!

Sheer "Hot Air" inSannity, The Little Guy, and the others decried all the publicity about Michael Jackson. Why didn't the MSM spend time on important issues like firefighters and the US Military?

And then Faux Noise and The Sludge Retort goes and wastes time with this sort of crap?

"Wow!," as Sen. Franken would say...

Fox News and Fox Nation cretins have spent the last few hours staring at the backside of a 17-year-old and they're accusing President Obama of somehow getting "busted"? Their tank is empty. Have they nothing of merit to focus on?!

I'm embarrassed that Fox has again sunk beneath bottomfeeders.

I know President Obama would never demean a young woman, as he wouldn't want his wife or his own young daughters to be gawked at by a smirking older man . .

Shame on Fox, but is anyone surprised?

Gods... it's obvious that Obama is simply looking downwards to ensure that the girl next to him steps down without obstruction. Anyone who reads anything sexual in that moment is the one with the problem.

Obama must be doing pretty well in his job is this is the best scandal they can come up with: they are grasping at straws.

This is where my outrage comes from. This young woman walks a few feet past a world figure, steps up on to a step, and turns to take a photo that she would undeniably cherish for a lifetime, and for what is captured in the briefest fraction of a second she becomes political cannon fodder for this dispicable "news" organization.

This is the evil of it. Their version of "fair and balanced" reporting is perched atop an increasing mountain of bodies belonging to the innocent.

If ever there was a non-story created directly from the minds of sexually repressed right-wing corporate sycophants and spewed out as news that proves once and for all that Fox-Noise is not, has never been, nor ever could be considered anything but a sleazy tabloid cable station as immature and childish as TMZ... then this one ices it!

I knew when I saw this yesterday that he wasn't looking at the girl. For one, it's obvious that he is looking DOWN, not to the side, and two, this picture is similar to the close cropped pictures and videos of the fall of the Saddam statue. Wide shots of both showed that there were just a handful of Iraqis in attendance and that it was a staged "celebration."

      Such a load of nonsense.

        Exactly.

If a comparable picture of Palin allegedly "checking out" some guy's butt was mis-reported in the same way that this has been by Fox "News," they would be apoplectic regarding how low-class whomever reported it was.

Although the video proves that the snapshot is not an accurate portrayal of what happened, the picture in and of itself still is pretty funny. What's simply and utterly dishonest is the fact that Fox totally ignores the video . . .

Moreover, there's hot women in just about every picture from this G8 conference. The prez is lucky to have the opportunity to do some window shopping.

what I find unfortunate about Ms Van Susteren's reporting on this matter is that if you go to her blog, all you will see is the picture under the heading "the lying picture" (or something similiar). while she maybe "debunking" the photo, she is still showing it. also, the nature of many of the comments posted by the folks on the blog would seem to indicate that her efforts to clear the matter up are in vain...

Compare the video with the picture. Granted the camera may be at a slightly different angle than the still-photo camera, but you can tell the 'incident' was re-enacted! For one, the photo was taken on the 9th, the video didn't surface until later. Convenient. Two, the woman's position relative to Pres. Obama's is slightly different. You may notice other discrepancies, the media is just trying to take the attention off the photo by right off the bat saying it's ridiculous, so that we would have that mindset and not think otherwise while viewing the video. Such con artists, the media. I know, I know, a little insignifant but what if the photo was taken of Bush or Reagan? They would be canned by the media in a milli-second!

The theory here is that the picture was taken on the 9th, and when Obama found out about it, he had the entire scene re-enacted. The picture first showed up on Drudge after 3 p.m. That would be after 9 p.m. in Italy. So either he had lighting experts create the illusion of daylight while he arranged everyone in the vicinity to be there for the fraudulent video, or he waited until the 10th, at which point he got everyone to show up in the same clothes. And all this without anyone leaking this bizarre process to the press. Supposedly Obama felt this was something so serious that a cover-up had to be done, at the risk of the cover-up efforts being revealed to the world.

It seems to me like Occam's Razor would apply here. The simplest explanation is most likely true. The angle was different and the video wasn't released until someone had the idea that anyone in the world actually gave a damn about this supposed gawking incident. It doesn't really matter as far as you're concerned though, since the EPA has agents outside your door right now, ready to take you to a processing plant where you will be turned into environment-friendly fuel.

        Made you look.

First of all. It took forever to get here! But now that I'm here, well, you're in for a treat. hahahaha

As for the video, I hadn't watched it, figuring it would be in poor taste. But then I realized I was denying myself access to a unique experience. How could I possibly comment on it, without seeing it first?

      So this what I think.

This video deserves an award. Maybe the Academy will introduce a category, especially for it.

I who come up with great titles, which are seldom read by others besides my facebook crew, which mostly ignores me. Then again, I have to say my best friends on facebook are between the ages of 3 and 30, the average being 15 yrs old.

I have found in my experience that those whom I trust most fall within this age range. They are the brightest of all, and can easily detect things like bad vibes and instinctively react to them. I trust their responses.

      Sorry for the digression...

Anyway, I came up with a great title for this brief masterpiece of illusion... but I don't know if anybody is listening, so you'll have tell me if you are.

      I call this video...

      Michelle's Magic Disappearing Act

By the deft hand of a video editor (who knows? it could have been a video vixen...)this person sliced Michelle from the picture before our very eyes!

      Now that deserves an award!

And besides, it is hilarious to watch!

As if this story can't get anymore pathetic, I'm amazed that no one has picked up on the "news" channel using the wrong word to describe this. Check out "Yes Nice Can", and below, it refers to the Presidents "wondering" eyes. Ahhmm, eyes don't "wonder", they "wander". Bad enough that common folk mix these up, but journalists are supposed to know grammar. Oh, wait, these are "common" folk, and not journalists. Strike my remarks!
