Quick fact: Hume says if Obama had included tax cuts in stimulus, GOP would have supported it -- but he did and they didn't

Brit Hume claimed that if President Obama included tax cuts with the stimulus bill's "spending extravaganza," it "would have attracted Republican votes."

From the November 9 broadcast of Fox News' Special Report with Bret Baier:

HUME: [O]n the main issues of this year -- the economic stimulus package and the Obama health care plan -- Republicans have stood in near unanimous opposition while Democrats have struggled to round up votes despite their large majorities in both houses.

The person most responsible for this is no Republican leader, but President Obama himself. His policies have made it easy for Republicans of all stripes to oppose him. Just think how different it would have been if the President had insisted on mixing in some tax rate cuts with that spending extravaganza in that stimulus bill. That would have attracted Republican votes, allowed the President to claim a bipartisan victory, and provided the Democrats some political cover, not to mention some potential economic benefits.

Fact: The $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act included $288 billion in tax relief

As Media Matters for America has noted, the recovery act contained $288 billion in tax relief, including the Making Work Pay tax credit, an annual credit of $400 per individual or $800 for families. In addition, the recovery act included a temporary increase in the earned income tax credit, a temporary increase in the refundable portion of the child tax credit, an increase in the first-time homebuyer tax credit, and tax incentives for businesses.

By any indice you'd care to evaluate this with, this isn't performing in any way shape or form to the advantage of any part of the American population. Those to the left of Attila the Hun anyway.

Hume, Fox News, so called Conservatives, Republicans have decided to block anything and everything coming from Obama, current House/Senate.
There are no two ways to look at it. Unfortunately, that takes away real disagreement with some of the laws being enacted.
If there were to be a law passed tomorrow that says the sun always rises in the east, it would be DOA.

      Another damned tax cuts!

I wonder how many of the poor/middle class/lower class right-wing trolls will come in here and defend another round of tax cuts which will only effect the rat bastards who approve of our jobs being sent over seas??

      What bull$()+, Hume.

Obama brought the stimulus to Congress before he was even inaugurated with almost half tax cuts, despite the fact that tax cuts aren't very stimulative to the economy, not near as good as much of the rest of the bill's outlays. They started out compromising with your side, but your side, Hume (he of "fair and balanced FoxNews), wasn't willing to cooperate.

So, Obama "insisted" on the tax cuts. Close to 50% of the spending was tax cuts, Brit.

How is it that you didn't know this, Brit? Really, I want to know - how can you possibly have never known this FACT?

Just like Republicans supported Clinton when he balanced the budget and took the biggest chunk out of the deficit of any president.

Just stop the lies all you ignorant righties, Obama could do everything you ask of him and you would still oppose him out of reflex due to the D after his name.

I Agree. The CHILDISH repukes could care less about any bill that a democrat puts forward because they will always vote against it since all the repukes care about is making sure Obama doesn't get any "wins" since what is #1 to all repukes is POWER & MONEY! They could care less about America and it's citizens that aren't rich! It blows my mind how childish these repukes are! The Democrats NEVER acted this way when Bush was the "President"! WE actually care about America & it's citizens and they did what we were elected to do: VOTE ON & PASS BILLS THAT WILL HELP AMERICA'S CITIZENS EVEN IF THE BILL IS A REPUKE BILL!
Also I am so sick of these repukes acting like tax cuts for the wealthy will save us & actually make millions of jobs, I mean come on have these IDIOTS forgotten about the past 8 HORRID YEARS that they were in power and gave the WEALTHY MILLIONS OR BILLIONS in tax cuts & ALL THAT THAT INEPT, IGNORANT BIBLE THUMPING HICK ACCOMPLISHED WAS MANAGING TO WIDDEL AWAY A HUGE BUDGET SURPLUS THAT CLINTON LEFT HIM, GAVE US A HUGE DEFICIT & EVEN MANAGED TO NOT JUST SCREW AMERICA OVER, HE SCREWED THE WHOLE WORLD OVER INTO A RECESSION! The repukes tax cut ideas DO NOT WORK! They are such a BAD IDEA that they manage to do the complete opposite of what the repukes swear that they will do! The ONLY jobs that those tax cuts for the rich managed to create were for the UNEMPLOYMENT OFFICES & REPO MEN! THAT'S IT! THE REPUKES KNEW ALL ALONG WHAT WOULD HAPPEN BUT THEY COULD CARE LESS SINCE ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS HELPING THEIR RICH & CORPORATE DONORS & THEMSELVES PAY LESS TAXES & MAKING SURE THAT ALL THEIR RICH & CORPORATE DONORS & SUPPORTERS WILL BACK THEM AGAIN & AGAIN BECAUSE THE ONLY OTHER THING THEY CARE ABOUT MORE THEN MONEY IS POWER & NOT LOSING THAT POWER EVER! All of you know that I speak the truth since all you have to do to prove what I say is to see how all the repukes act when they lose power, they act like a child who just had it's security blanket stolen/lost! I myself am sick & tired of how the Democrats keep trying to get the repukes to work with them when they(Democrats) already know that they will NEVER work with them as long as they are out of power. What the Democrats need to do is to call them out publicly about how CHILDISH & IMMATURE they are acting & how they could care less whether a bill introduced by Democrats gives all Americans FREE HEALTH CARE, CUTS TAXES FOR EVERYONE OR EVEN ELIMINATES TAXES, the repukes DO NOT CARE, THEY DON'T EVEN READ THE BILL THEY JUST VOTE AGAINST IT OR TRY AN STALL IT SO OBAMA & THE DEMOCRATS DON'T GET A "WIN" & END UP LOOKING BAD! YOU CHILDISH REPUKES!!!

Hume's comment is almost as ignorant as working for Fox News.
