Quick Fact: Limbaugh claimed "no backlash against Muslims," but hate crimes against them reportedly "soared" after 9-11
Referring to remarks by Gen. George Casey regarding potential backlash against Muslims in the military in the wake of the Fort Hood shootings, Rush Limbaugh claimed: "There is no backlash against Muslims in America. Zip, zero, nada." Limbaugh's claim that "there is no backlash against Muslims in America" is undermined by a 2002 FBI hate crimes analysis that found that "[a]nti-Islamic religion incidents" in 2001 increased "by more than 1,600 percent over the 2000 volume," and a San Francisco Chronicle article reported that "[h]ate crimes against Muslims soared after Sept. 11."
Limbaugh: "There is no backlash against Muslims in America. Zip, zero, nada."
From the November 11 edition of Premiere Radio Networks' The Rush Limbaugh Show:
LIMBAUGH: And General Casey is now the Chief of Staff of the Army and he talked about the diversity in the Army, and oh, how this incident is so -- he said something to the effect that it'd be so bad, it'd be even worse if this incident caused us to lose our diversity in the military. And he went out there and said we're going to do everything we can to make sure there's not a backlash against the Muslim soldiers in our military. Janet Napolitano of the United Arab Emirates says we're gonna do everything we can to make sure there's not a backlash against Muslim-Americans in the United States, and there are statistics and numbers out there. Hate crimes against Muslims are at an all-time low; since 2001, they have plummeted. There aren't any hate crimes. There is no backlash against Muslims in America. Zip, zero, nada.
FACT: FBI's 2002 analysis reportedly showed that "Hate crimes against Muslims soared after Sept. 11"
A 2002 FBI hate crimes analysis reported that the distribution of hate crimes based on national origin changed in 2001, "presumably as a result of the heinous incidents that occurred on September 11." The FBI further noted, "Anti-Islamic religion incidents were previously the second least reported, but in 2001, they became the second highest reported among religious-bias incidents (anti-Jewish religion incidents were the highest), growing by more than 1,600 percent over the 2000 volume. In 2001, reported data showed there were 481 incidents made up of 546 offenses having 554 victims of crimes motivated by bias toward the Islamic religion." A November 26, 2002, San Francisco Chronicle article reported, "Hate crimes against Muslims soared after Sept. 11, according to an FBI report released Monday that also shows that most hate offenses in 2001 were committed against African Americans."

Limbaugh couldn't find the truth if it was sitting on top a bottle of Oxycontin.
Try this, Rush...

You do realize, do you not, exactly how much you and Hitler have in common? It sounds like you have a kinder, gentler version in mind, but it's still a Final Solution in my opinion.
Just based on facts, and not irrational and bigoted fear, you would have a hard time proving you have any more to fear from the average muslim than you do from the average Christian. As an outcast (liberal Christian), I feel that says a lot more about the forces that have hijacked the religion I profess than it does about the followers of Allah.
You bigoted piece of trash! Painting all Muslims with the same brush is like painting all whites or Europeans with the same brush! It's the equivalent of calling all whites Nazis/Stalinists/Fascists and blaming all whites for WWI and WWII. You're part of the problem, not part of the solution, and I feel sorry for your children.
I happen to be a Muslim. A white, American, previously Catholic, single-when-I-embraced-Islam, Muslim. I was born in Philadelphia, so I'm not sure where I'd move to, to be honest.
Maybe we should have targeted blonde haired, green (or was it blue?) eyed ex-military men after the Oklahoma City bombing (Timothy McVeigh, murderer). Perhaps we should have scrutinized all Christians or anti-abortionists after Eric Rudolph (murderer), Rev. Paul Hill (murderer), John Salvi (murderer), James Kopp (suspected murderer of Dr. Bernard Slepian), Scott Roeder (murderer). I in no way condone abortion, but I think these individuals committed acts that are heinous and dispicable. And if you agree with what they have done, then you should in NO WAY try and write someone off who agrees with Maj. Hasan.
To myself and MOST all Muslims, Hasan is a dispicable human being and had no right to do what he did. In no way can I justify his actions...they were wrong.
So for you to distrust each and every Muslim is a shame. If you consider yourself a Christian, do you really think Jesus would be such a skeptic and hardnose? Did he not teach, "Love thy enemy"?
I think many Muslims these days follow the teachings of Jesus more than some so-called Christians. Especially the evangelicals.
In lieu of the fact that America is made of people from all walks of life, be they Muslim, Protestant, Shinto, Buddist, or even athiest, from Morocco or Berlin, from london to Tokyo, we have room for everybody.
However, in an effort to further seperate myself from lunatics like yourself, i will begin befirending MORE Muslims. kindly take your bigoted hatred elsewhere, us REAL AMERICANS, who remember that this nation's Statue of Liberty has an inscription on it that reads "Give us your tired, your poor, your wretched, huddled masses, yearning to be free" would love to see YOU leave.
Didn't your parents ever tell you, "better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt"?
I can honestly say that at no time did he smile or tell me he was kidding. He most certainly meant it.
I tried talking sense with him. I had a better chance of getting a brick wall to listen.
I certainly understood his anger, but I was shocked at his reaction. Two weeks later, right before I was let go because of the new restrictions (I was the low man on the totem pole, oh well) placed on all contractors, I spoke with that co-worker again and he was still the same in his stance.
I asked him about the Oklahoma City bombing and how he felt about Tim McVeigh and his dirty deed. I wish I could say I was making this up but he said he actually understood why McVeigh did what he did even though it was wrong. His anger was barely even there.
I was actually glad to have lost my job a few days later, as I could not stand to be near that jerk after he said that. I might have quit anyways.
I won't speculate on his upbringing as tempting as that my be... but for Limbaugh to even consider this line of propaganda is rather sickening.
So was Hasan justified in your mind? If so, then I guess you are the same as your former co-worker here.
OTOH, I've often seen that technique used to smear someone with a baseless suggestion. But you wouldn't stoop so low as to use that method, would you?
At least try to have a shred of honesty on this one.
Jezuz pete...of course they did...in 2001.
An 8 year old study by mmfa is a weak, weak analogy.
Muslims had just murdered 3000 Americans...what do you expect the results to be...picnics and fried chicken for muslims.
uhm, no. 19 Saudis killed 3000 Americans. while they happened to be Muslim it in no way reflects the values of most Muslims. unless of course your such a bigot that you can't figure that part out
The point that mm (for very little) conveniently overlooks is the the actual numbers that account for a 1600% increase. The numbers went from around 37 to 200 during 2002 of 'hate crimes' against muslims. 1600% seems like a whole lot more than 163 more reported incident throughout the whole nation. The numbers continue around 170 or so for the years since, why that's an 18% drop from previous years numbers for 'anti-love' crimes. In fact not one muslim has be murdered for their religious beliefs since 9-11, most of their complaints were for 'intimidation'. Even considering the language of a 'hate crime' and really, is there any other kind of crime(?), the reports of crimes against Jews is generally about 1000 more than that of the muslims, why that's 600%. And remember, these are the reports not the convictions of crimes attributed to 'un-love'.
Remember those goofy imams getting on a plane in Minneapolis a few years back, refusing to sit in assigned seats, demanding the opportunity to bow toward mecca before takeoff, wanting seat belt extensions for obese passengers when they weren't but showing how they could be used to block movement in the aisle. Well those religion of peacers were justifiably thrown off of the plane and ended up, get this, claiming that the passengers who saw this crap, were intimidating them and attempted to charge some with a....'hate crime'. @:<
Remember no murders and 'reports' of intimidation in the FBI stats since 9-11. This guy identifies his enemy as the American military, complains that the war is an attack on his religion, has demonstrated his allegiance to alli-baba over his duty to country, commits an act of terror against fellow soldiers and we are supposed to as Senator Clinton said to General (betrayus) Petraeus (remember that load from bowelmovement.org), that his request for the surge required a willing suspension of disbelief, that this wasn't about his moronic religious beliefs?
Nothing happened to the religion of peacers after 9-11 and nothing will happen again because of the nature of freedom loving people to show respect, even to murderous muslim cowards like this jerk.
Yeah I ranted, but please refute.........
As MM notes the FBI reports states:
"Anti-Islamic religion incidents were previously the second least reported, but in 2001, they became the second highest reported among religious-bias incidents (anti-Jewish religion incidents were the highest), growing by more than 1,600 percent over the 2000 volume"
That's 'incidents' not all of these are 'crimes'
That is a complete fantasy. The imams prayed together before they boarded the plane. A passenger passed a note asserting suspicious behavior that has never been backed up with evidence.
refusing to sit in assigned seats - Nonsense. One of the imams, who was blind and wanted assistance, arranged to swap seats with another passenger so that he could sit beside one of his companions.
demanding the opportunity to bow toward mecca before takeoff - fantasy. It didn't happen.
wanting seat belt extensions for obese passengers when they weren't but showing how they could be used to block movement in the aisle. - contested and denied. I've never seen support for the last part of your claim. There are claims that they got the extensions and put them on the floor at their feet, but that's the extent of it, and even that is contested.
There is no support for your crap about the imams trying to charge passengers with a hate crime.
They prayed before the flight, before boarding the plane. A passenger got nervous and wrote a note overstating their actions. That passenger's claims weren't supported by other passengers or airport cameras. That is the meat of the case.
A judge in the case stated:
That says it pretty well. No reasonable person.
Yep. Just like after the election of President Obama there was no physical aggression towards African-americans because the loons thought the country was going to be overruned by minorities in high political office huh Rushie?
