Ignoring his past remarks, Bozell says "if" Limbaugh said liberals "want to kill people," "[i]t would be the end of his career"

January 04, 2010 11:34 am ET — 21 Comments

In a December 31 Newsmax article, Media Research Center president Brent Bozell is quoted as saying that if Rush Limbaugh said liberals "want to kill people," then "[i]t would be the end of his career." But Limbaugh has made numerous remarks of the sort, including declaring that "It's the American Left that wants you to die" and that the Democratic Party is "obsessed with your death."

From a December 31 Newsmax.com article:

The Media Research Center had no problem finding outrageous quotes from the liberal media for its Best Notable Quotables of 2009 -- and the center's founder and president, Brent Bozell, discussed the "awards" in an exclusive Newsmax interview.

The "winners" of the 22nd Annual Awards for the Year's Worst Reporting, chosen by a panel of 48 judges, include Katie Couric of CBS and Evan Thomas of Newsweek.

[...]

MSNBC talk show host Ed Schultz wins the Damn Those Conservatives Award for these remarks on "The Ed Show" in September: "The Republicans lie! They want to see you dead. They'd rather make money off your dead corpse. They kind of like it when that woman has cancer and they don't have anything for her."

Bozell commented: "I love it how the left is always accusing the right -- the Rush Limbaughs, the Sean Hannitys, you, me -- of being the haters, of being the people who are negative, the people who participate in character assassination campaigns. There you have it -- Ed Schultz, Mister MSNBC, making the most hideous of character assassination attacks, saying we want to kill people, and literally saying it. We want to see them dead.

"Just think what would happen if Rush Limbaugh went on the air and said that about a liberal. It would be the end of his career."

But Limbaugh's many accusations that liberals want to kill people have not been "the end of his career"

Limbaugh: "It's the American left that wants you to die," Democratic Party is "obsessed with your death." During the September 30 broadcast of Premiere Radio Networks' The Rush Limbaugh Show, Limbaugh said the public option would "determine who among us lives and dies on the basis of who among us gets health care, gets treatment, based on whatever criteria they say is necessary." Responding to Rep. Alan Grayson's (D-FL) floor speech in which he said "Republicans want you to die quickly if you get sick," Limbaugh said, "The only plan that asks you to die and get out of the way is the Democrat plan." He continued: "It's the American left that wants you to die. They want you to die in the womb, and they want you to die when you're no longer productive towards the end of your life. It's the Democrat Party that's obsessed with your death. The Democrat Party that is obsessed not with life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness but the exact opposite. The party of abortion and euthanasia, slavery and not liberty, and everybody being created miserable and mediocre."

Limbaugh euthanasia fearmongering: "Cradle to grave care" now means government "decide[s] when to dig the grave." On his October 13 broadcast, Limbaugh said of "cradle to grave care": "The difference now is that [the government] also get to decide when to dig the grave ... with this health care plan."

Limbaugh on "death panel" falsehood: Obama wants to control "determinations of who lives and who dies." Discussing Sarah Palin's "death panel" falsehood on his August 13 radio show, Limbaugh said that when you "synthesize" what Obama wants to do about health care, Obama "wants the White House, he wants the executive branch to be making determinations of who lives and who dies, which will lead to the regulation of every lifestyle or life in this country."

Limbaugh claims that under Democratic health care reform, senior citizens would face "the guillotine." On his October 15 radio program, Limbaugh said of Democratic health care reform: "Senior citizens know full well what they would face -- the guillotine -- if this health care bill ever passes."

Limbaugh again invokes "death panels" in claiming that Democrats are "totally on board with the elderly passing away." During his December 8 radio broadcast, Limbaugh said: "If the final [health care bill] has $500 billion in Medicare cuts, then that alone is a death panel, and that will convince me that this administration, the Democrat Party, is totally on board with the elderly passing away because they represent a problem. They're informed, they're educated, they have a memory of a better time in this country." He continued: "If they follow through on this, then people's biggest suspicions will be confirmed. They're essentially saying that elderly people, we're just not going to treat you."

The only thing that will end Limbaugh's career is if he retires or passes away. He can say whatever he wants, and his drooling sycophants will believe it. That's why he gets paid so much for telling lies on the radio.

When I read the news about Rush on New Year's day I turned to my girlfriend and asked, "You wanna here something that will make you question if you're a good person?"

Indeed. This is a creep who once mocked Michael J. Fox for Parkinson's Disease and claimed -- with zero evidence -- that he was faking it. Hey Brent, what about that?

It had to be a liberal that caused Rush to have to go to the hospital. And if there really was "Death Panels", how likely is it Rush would have came out of the hospital.

Ah, Mr. Bozell. Another inept 'conservative' journalist who refuses to do research. Not surprising it has come back to bite you rather quickly on your ample posterior. Anyone with the tiniest shred of knowledge wouldn't need to do research, however. They would already be aware of Mr. Limbaugh's propensities to engage in fear mongering, death being an ultimate fear, in defense of his position. Mostly because he almost never has any facts on his side. I admire your chutzpah, Mr. Bozell, but your intellect leaves a great deal to be desired.

Yet another shining example of why no one should believe anything Brent Bozell says or writes.

And, we see how the "Death Panels" lie has hurt Scary Palin's career... NOT.

The audience to which Limbaugh and his fellow liars cater DOES NOT CARE about honesty, courtesy, or civility. They want their prejudices vindicated, and they will slavishly listen to any lying jackass who will tell them what they want to hear. Hence Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity... neither of whom could get a job making millions in a sane world.

I have to agree as I've spent a fair amount of time over the last ten years arguing on-line and many times in person with "conservatives"

They are impervious to facts and once confronted with facts that completely refute what they claim to stand for, it doesn't change a thing.

On the topic of the liberal media, they will dismiss anything out of hand from the "liberal media" but ask them their source of true information they refuse.

Want to blow a conservatives mind while talking taxes, inform them that Reagan raised taxes 7 times, doubled the social security withholding while taxing some SS benefits, raised taxes in a recession and nearly tripled the national debt.

And, oh yeah, Reagan had more people convicted for crimes than any administration in modern US History

That has been my experience, as well. Years ago, when I first started posting on these sites, I foolishly used my real name. When I questioned the wisdom of invading Iraq, I actually received threats of physical violence, and the ominous warning "I know where your kids go to school". Probably a bluff, but disturbing nonetheless.

It became obvious to me then that I wasn't dealing with rational people.

Standard conservative tactics, Conchobhar, first used on clients at reproductive clinics; write down their license tag number, use it to search their address, then send threats. And According to L. Brent Bozo, it's the liberals who are violent?...

To be more accurate, it should read as follows:

I noticed that in the "Push Back" link near the top of this page, Bozell's name is given as "L. Brent Bozell". Does the "L" stand for "liar"???

Bozell is one of the funniest political commentators out there, and he's not even trying.

And if you read through their alleged examples of "bad reporting," most aren't even reporting: They're self-avowed liberals stating an opinion on opinion shows. By that logic, Fox News ... oh, nevermind.

Plus on this Schultz quote, like many others, they don't give the context. Check out their page of quotes supposedly bashing poor Rush, for example.

Limbaugh is nothing short of amazing. That boil that kept him out of the draft grew to take over his entire body and turn it into one gigantic pustule, but he still lives on to rant another day.
