Who Didn't Beck Blame For Egypt's Unrest?

February 05, 2011 1:00 am ET — 68 Comments

As protesters took to the streets of Egypt this week, Glenn Beck took to his multiple broadcast platforms to weave an elaborate theory about the forces behind the uprising. During this span, Beck connected the protests and violence in Egypt to, among other things, Islamic socialists, Marxist communists, food prices, Bill Ayers, Code Pink, ACORN co-founder Wade Rathke, the Tides Foundation's Drummond Pike, the Muslim Brotherhood, and the AFL-CIO.

Monday: "The Coming Insurrection: Egypt": Beck Sees Unrest As A Coordinated Plot By The "Socialist Communists" And The Muslim Brotherhood

Beck Graphic Labels Egyptian Protests "The Coming Insurrection: Egypt." From Monday's show:

[Fox News, Glenn Beck, 1/31/11]

Beck: What's Happening In Egypt Isn't About "Politics," But "World Domination." From the show:

BECK: In a few hours, millions are expected to be on the street of Egypt and food shortages are spreading rapidly throughout the region. The army, the tanks are roving through the cities, and no one is quite sure whose side to be on.

This isn't about politics. This is about world domination. The world is about to be dominated by maybe a couple of handfuls.

I believe, that I can make a case in the end that there are three powers you will see emerge.

One: a Muslim caliphate that controls the Mideast and parts of Europe.

Two: China, that will control Asia, the southern half of Africa, part of the Middle East, Australia, maybe New Zealand, and God only knows what else.

And, Russia, which will control all of the old former Soviet Union bloc, plus maybe the Netherlands. Not really sure. But their strong arm is coming. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 1/31/11, via Nexis]

Beck: Protests Aren't "About Egypt," They Are The "Story Of Everyone Who Has Ever Plotted Or Wanted to Fundamentally Change Or Destroy The Western Way Of Life." From the show:

BECK: America, what you're really seeing is actually a repudiation of everything we think we know. This is -- this is Woodrow Wilson, repudiated. This is Saul Alinsky. This is STORM from Van Jones. This is "The Coming Insurrection." That's what really we should be paying attention to.

It's the U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon who said over the weekend at Davos that capitalism is environmental suicide. And there needs to be, quote, "a revolution." Oh! Well, that's helpful while the streets are on fire.

The former Soviet Union, everybody, radical Islam, every -- this is the story of everyone who has ever plotted to or wanted to fundamentally change or destroy the Western way of life. This isn't about Egypt. Everything is up on the table. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 1/31/11, via Nexis]

Beck: Why Are "Socialist And Marxist And Communist Groups ... Supporting The Egyptian Riots?" From the show:

BECK: If it's really about democracy and freedom, why international answer and several other socialist and Marxist and communist groups, why are they supporting the Egyptian riots? When I show you the map, you'll understand in a minute.

People screaming for peace and non-violence, they are supporting. What?

The current premier of Turkey has said, quote, "Democracy is like a streetcar. When you get to your stop, you get off." Hmm.

So, we're riding until we arrive at the destination. It would be nice to know what the destination is. Man, that would be a good question for somebody to ask. Wouldn't it? What is the final destination here? [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 1/31/11, via Nexis]

Beck: "This Pro-Democracy Talk" About Egypt "Is The Result Of A Progressive Movement." From the show:

BECK: The truth has no agenda, but the media does.

The truth has no agenda, but I think ElBaradei does.

The truth has no agenda, but I think the Obama administration does.

The truth has no agenda but you don't know the truth.

The truth is: this prodemocracy talk is the result of a progressive movement.

Let me ask you this: why are people saying this like the fall of the Berlin Wall? [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 1/31/11, via Nexis]

Beck: "This Is Not Just Poor People Mad At Rich People. This Is Coordinated." From the show:

BECK: This is not just happenstance. This is not just poor people mad at rich people. This is coordinated. Tunisia was the beginning.

I think there is a chance that Tunisia is our Archduke Ferdinand moment that I've been telling you about, warning that it would start in some place that wouldn't look like anything, and most of us wouldn't understand it.

He was the guy assassinated in Sarajevo, June 1914. A month later, Austria and Hungary declared war against Serbia and the rest is called World War I. I believe a snowball is being formed, and it is starting to roll. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 1/31/11, via Nexis]

Beck: "Egyptian Revolt" Is "Not Pro-Democracy. ... Maybe It Is For Some. ... This Isn't About Freedom Or Democracy For The Power Players." From the show:

BECK: Now, I don't know if you've notice the cries of the media, saying that this Egyptian revolt is pro-democracy. But I can't think of anything that is more laughable. It is not pro-democracy.

Now, maybe it - maybe it is for some. I mean, the people have been abused by a brutal dictator. That is true, and I stand with people of Egypt that they're being played. Some said that this is like the Berlin Wall, but it's not.

This isn't about freedom or democracy for the power players. We've seen all of this before, and the useful idiots that the students played in 1979 - in 1979, under the iron fist of the U.S.-supported shah of Iran. Just like here. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 1/31/11, via Nexis]

Beck: Egyptian "Riot" Involves "Real People," But Is "Being Controlled By The Socialist Communists And The Muslim Brotherhood." From the show:

BECK: I've told you before that this riot is involving real people, but it's also being controlled by the socialist communists and by the Muslim brotherhood. So you don't want it to go there, right, Glenn? [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 1/31/11, via Nexis]

Beck: Protests Are "Not About Freedom," Are "Being Orchestrated By The Marxist Communists And Primarily Also The Muslim Brotherhood." From Beck's appearance on The O'Reilly Factor:

O'REILLY: You've proving my point, OK? We tried to stay out of World War II. All right? The majority of Americans didn't want to get involved with Hitler. All right? And it was a disaster.

BECK: I understand that, but what you're not taking into account is that that is what the average person thinks, just like the average person on the street of -- of Cairo thinks they're swept up in some freedom movement. It is not about freedom. It is being orchestrated by the Marxist communists and primarily also the Muslim Brotherhood. [Fox News, The O'Reilly Factor, 1/31/11, via Nexis]

Tuesday: Beck Sees Code Pink, Ayers Joining The Muslim Brotherhood In A "Well-Orchestrated Campaign"

Beck: "The Uber-Left, The Anarchists And The Communists And The Socialists, The Radicals" Are "Sowing The Seeds And Helping Those In Egypt." From Beck's radio show:

BECK: You see the evidence of it. We have evidence of the uber-left, the anarchists and the communists and the socialists, the radicals, sowing the seeds and helping those in Egypt. They -- all they want is more pressure on the United States. This isn't about the people there; this is about changing the globe, and I really believe that they think they will win in the end. Well, will you now? Dangerous game you're playing with billions of lives. It is a very dangerous game, and you need to know the connections. And this isn't about Barack Obama. This is so far beyond Congress and the next election. This is about our survival. The storm that I've talked about for many years is here. The Coming Insurrection is here. [Premiere Radio Networks, The Glenn Beck Program, 2/1/11]

Beck: "The Reason Why They're Having The Riots On The Streets Is Because Of Food -- Food Prices And Inflation." From Beck's radio show:

BECK: We are headed to a place with $140 barrel of oil. That's what made us collapse at a time when our economy supposedly was good. What does $140 a barrel do to us now? The reason why they're having the riots on the streets is because of food -- food prices and inflation. Well, what's the best way to keep us from being enslaved? Please store food. Be prepared. Know what your values and principles are. [Premiere Radio Networks, The Glenn Beck Program, 2/1/11]

Beck: "You're Watching A Well-Orchestrated Campaign, But It All Really Started For The Average Person With Food." From Beck's Fox News show:

BECK: But, first, I want to know what is driving people, because it's not -- a caliphate is driving some. But this whole crowd -- this isn't driven by the caliphate. What's driving the average Egyptian, what has changed? They've had Mubarak for 30 years. Why all of a sudden? What's happened?

Well, there are a couple of things. And you'll understand it -- by today and tomorrow, you will understand there are strings being pulled. You're watching a well-orchestrated campaign, but it all really started for the average person with food.

Now, I know I have been made of relentlessly for being talking about being prepared. I know, I have some nerve telling people, live like your grandparents, you know, get prepared. Maybe do some canning like grandma used to, or have some food down in the basement, because food prices are going to rise. Yes.

I also said be prepared spiritually. I've -- look, that's what this is all about -- enlightenment, education, empowerment and entrepreneurship.

Now, what does empowerment mean? What does that mean? Empowerment means don't be a slave to someone else. What is the easiest way to have you enslaved? Food -- if you don't have food. People can play you.

Please, if you take anything away from this show, please be prepared. Look at Egypt right now. These were people that were not prepared. Nobody warned them. People are now waiting in long lines in order to get a loaf of bread. Grocery stores have boarded up their windows and their doors, they can't get food.

So, now, you have angry people and we throw in a little hunger into the mix -- that's a deadly combination. Prepare. Otherwise, you're setting yourself up to being played. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 2/1/11, via Nexis]

Beck: "Here Is Egypt, The Muslim Brotherhood Want This. They Want A Power-Grab From Mubarak." From the show:

BECK: You have Somalia and Iran already in green. Now, let's add Tunisia. Former Tunisian government was considered one of the most secular and corrupt governments in the Arab world. The poor and the angry demanded changes. Most dangerous scenario is that radical Muslims seize power and put Sharia law into place.

Same thing now with Egypt. Here is Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood want this. They want a power-grab from Mubarak.

He's going to resign in September he said, just a few minutes ago. People are upset Mubarak doesn't take a hard line against Israel. Maintain the peace treaty with them. The Muslim Brotherhood, as you'll see in a minute, take a hard line against Israel.

This could very easily be 1979 Iran. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 2/1/11, via Nexis]

Beck Claims The "Fall Of Egypt" Is "Not About Freedom. It Is Not About Democracy. It Is About An Islamic State." From the show:

BECK: Now, this is not the average person in Egypt. These are the people that are trying to grab power. And it can happen because you're not being told the full truth and you're not being told the full truth by the same people who didn't tell you the full truth before 9/11. They were nonchalant about the threat before 9/11 and they're doing it now.

The same people are telling you now that the Muslim brotherhood and the fall of Egypt is all about freedom. It is not. It is not about freedom. It is not about democracy. It is about an Islamic state. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 2/1/11]

Beck Links Egypt's "Day Of Rage" To Frances Fox Piven And Bill Ayers. From the show:

BECK: There's one other slogan that has jumped out at me as well. They were promoting the January 25th, the Friday protest and they came up with a title in advance for them. Did you happen to catch what it was called?

Friday, this, was called the "day of rage." Because I have read all about the Marxist and the revolutionaries in America, I recognize the "day of rage." Where have I heard that before?

Oh, yes, that's right. We heard it before in the 1960s with Bill Ayers and the Weather Underground. That's when they had the violent student riots in the 1960s. That was the day of rage.

Weather Underground talks about it in the Weather Underground's works. Huh, coincidence?

By the way, day of rage -- wasn't Frances Fox Piven recently just saying, where is the rage? Where is the outrage? Where is the anger? You've got get on the street and have riots and embrace your anger.

Why would anyone -- can you imagine if the Tea Parties called for a day of rage, what would be said? Something is wrong. Why in the world would Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn even care about Egypt at all? Oh, they do, they care deeply -- another connection. Next. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 2/1/11, via Nexis]

Beck: Code Pink "Seems Pretty Darn Cozy With The Muslim Brotherhood." From the show:

BECK: There's a question I'm guessing no one will ever ask. Why were Bernadine Dohrn and Bill Ayers terrorists in the Weather Underground? And Code Pink founder Jodie Evans involved with the Muslim Brotherhood during in the Gaza flotilla.

Ayers and Dohrn organized an effort to bring political pressure to bear on the Mubarak regime and Israel to allow for the aid from Hamas, which is the Muslim Brotherhood, to be delivered through Egyptian checkpoints.

Remember Ayers and Dohrn participated in the Weather Underground, 1969 days of rage in Chicago. Last Friday's rioting in Egypt was dubbed by the Muslim Brotherhood "days of rage." What a coincidence.

Remember when we talked about that flotilla how tense the world was? Evans and Code Pink lobbied Mubarak's wife for assistance as well as U.S. embassy in Cairo. Guess who else was strong supporter of the flotilla?

The Muslim Brotherhood. Code Pink seems pretty darn cozy with the Muslim Brotherhood. Can you imagine a terrorist organization - can you imagine if any of us were cozy with Hamas?

Taking out a banner - they've gone so far to take out banner ads on the Muslim Brotherhood's official English language Web site. Now, I want you to see this because I don't even know what to think. I've never heard this kind of language before.

This is disturbing. "War arrests. Arrest the war criminals. Join us in cleansing our country." Cleansing our country? What does that even mean? I mean, cleanse the bathtub? Cleanse the kitchen floor, maybe? Cleanse my clothes? But cleanse my country?

Am I the only one that makes you think of ethnic cleansing? I've never heard anybody - cleanse the country? What does that even mean? That's disturbing. But remember, this is coming from a group who is friends with former Weather Underground members. And on tomorrow's program, we will show you how they meant cleansing back in the 1960s, because they did.

They talked about killing 25 million Americans who just wouldn't get it. I don't know if Code Pink is thinking that. But Code Pink is not shy about its support for Hamas. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 2/1/11, via Nexis]

Beck Connects ACORN Co-Founder Wade Rathke And Tides Foundation's Drummond Pike To Egypt. From Beck's show:

BECK: It's interesting to note a few other leftists who seem somewhat involved in what is happening in Egypt. Believe it or not, Wade Rathke - Wade Rathke, the ACORN guy, and Drummond Pike of the Tides Foundation are both on the board of the organizers forum.

This is a forum that was planned to host their fall 2011 international dialogue in Egypt, where they will meet with labor and community organizers and other activists in Cairo.

I'm sure that they're just there for social justice. That's it. What a coincidence. Wade Rathke even put on his Web site - or this is actually not Wade's Web site. This is the coalition's - the forum's Web site.

It says, "Exciting changes and developments are currently taking place in Egypt with elections coming soon to determine leadership transitions in what has been an autocratic regime now challenged by the Muslim Brotherhood and succession and democracy issues."

Coincidence just doesn't seem to stop. Why would Rathke and Pike plan a big get together in Egypt? Maybe the flights to Cairo are cheaper than the flights to Vegas. I don't know.

Maybe they've always wanted to see pyramids. Or maybe they're sowing the seeds of unrest, because global revolution is what they're looking for.

Wade Rathke, on his blog - he wrote this about Egypt, "But in the meantime, keep your running shoes handy and in good repair. The streets are on fire. We need to keep our feet in shape so the dogs can keep barking." [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 2/1/11]

Thursday: Beck Says Those Who Want A "Caliphate" Or "Communism Or A New World Order" Are Using Piven's Playbook To Cause "Global Chaos"

Beck: "What Role Are Marxists Playing" In Egypt Protests? From Beck's Fox News show:

BECK: We're still really tonight working on Egypt and this one -- who's organizing these riots? And what role are Marxists playing? What are the causes?

We've already talked about food storage, poverty and oppression. Those are all real. But, tonight, we're going to focus here, because nobody else will. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 2/3/11, via Nexis]

Responding To Criticism Of His Previous Theories About Egypt, Beck Reformulates A Theory That Does Not Mention Egypt. From the show:

BECK: I was driving in this morning and I'm listening to "FOX & FRIENDS," and I hear -- I hear a woman get on and she starts saying that, well, Glenn Beck is crazy -- these crazy theories.

I want you to hear it. Actually, she didn't say it like that. So, play it. This is from "The Daily Beast" contributor.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I find it astonishing so many Republicans, on the one hand, crowed about democracy spreading throughout the Middle East when they were preparing to go to war for Iraq -- to go to war with Iraq. And now that we actually see an uprising of the Egyptian people demanding the right to self-determination, there's not just skepticism by outright hostility, right? Your own network has been running absolutely, you know, lunatic theories about this being some kind of conspiracy between Van Jones, Code Pink, Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: What?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BECK: Yes. You're going to feel bad for her at the bottom of the hour. You are because it's so -- I mean, it's really like a fourth grade argument.

They were reacting with surprise afterwards, you know, like what? I've never heard that. Because she's 100 percent wrong.

First of all, that's not the network's theory. That's not FOX's theory. That's my theory. My theory. And it's not Van Jones or anything else.

Let me ask you this, let's start here. Since when is having a theory when you're trying to figure out what's going on a bad thing in America? And it's really less theory than it is facts in their own words.

But, just in case, let me show you what my theory is. And I stand by it. Everybody on the left, this is my theory and I stand by every word of it.

Groups from the hardcore socialists and communist left and extreme Islam will work together because of the common enemy of Israel and the Jews. Do I have to remind you what happens to Jews under communism, or how friendly they've been to Israel? Do I?

How about the -- how about extreme Islam? Oh, no, it's going to be good.

Groups from the hardcore socialist left and extreme Islam and communism will work together because of the common enemy of capitalism and the Western way of life. It's not just capitalism, it's not the United States, it's your way of life in the West. And I stand by that.

Groups from the hardcore socialist left and communism and extreme Islam will work together to overturn relatively -- relative stability because in the status quo, they are both ostracized from power and the mainstream in most parts of the world.

That's here. I'll put this up for you. Glenn's theory. Here it is. Got it?

That's it and I stand by it. Is it so farfetched, really? [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 2/3/11, via Nexis]

The Muslim Brotherhood And Islamic Socialists In Egypt Are "Using Chaos As An Opportunity." From the show:

BECK: I want you to look up somebody else. Tariq Ramadan. Tariq Ramadan, he looks like a nice guy, isn't he? He is a professor of Islamic studies at the University of Oxford.

It's great. Quite a lineage. His grandfather, oh, founded the Muslim Brotherhood. So, you remember, Muslim Brotherhood gave birth to Hamas. The Muslim Brotherhood's goal is destroy and kill Israel and Jews. And Hamas, well, they want to destroy Israel and kill the Jews.

But his grandfather founded the Muslim Brotherhood, and he was banned from the U.S. He was about to become a tenured professor at the University of Notre Dame, but he was banned from entering the U.S. in 2004 because, well, there were accusations that he was supporting the militant Palestinian group, Hamas, which is the offspring of the Muslim Brotherhood that his grandfather started. So -- all right.

So, why is he a danger? Well, because he was accused of supporting Hamas, we don't want him around, and I believe he was more dangerous because of his beliefs on something called Islamic socialism. It's a crazy idea. And it is an idea that -- are you ready -- "to be a sworn enemy of capitalism does not mean you're a communist, a fascist, a religious fundamentalist, or indeed an anti-Semite. But it is something these otherwise disparate groups frequently have in common. Advocating a revolt against Western materialism on the basis of superior spiritual values is an old project."

Yes. Yes. Probably back to what, Crusades?

I wouldn't need to come back to him and I probably wouldn't bring him up if he was still banned from entering the United States, but, no, he's not. Last January, President Obama and Hillary Clinton restored his visa. So, he's free to come and go, isn't that great?

Just remember: Islamic socialism. This is why you see the left coming to the aid of the Islamic fascists because they're cool with socialism. OK, sure, but they're not actually going to behead us. We're their friends.

No. No, you're not.

It goes back to the theory that has caused all of the problems for the United States. It's what got us into this mess now here in America with Egypt. We shouldn't have supporting Hosni Mubarak ever. He's a brutal, awful dictator that did horrible things with our money.

Why do you think they hate us? Of course, they hate us. What do we stand for?

It comes from the theory "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" and that is a lie. But that's what the left is using. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

They're all using chaos as an opportunity. They don't agree on the end goal, a caliphate or communism or globalization. They don't. But they'll cross that bridge when they get there. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 2/3/11, via Nexis]

Beck: Egypt Is Part Of A Plot By Those Who Want A "Caliphate" Or "Communism Or A New World Order" And Are Using The Playbook Of Frances Fox Piven To Cause "Global Chaos." From the show:

BECK: Let me go to the playbook written by Frances Fox Piven -- you know, grandma as I call her -- she's knitting and she's also writing recently for The Nation. Quote, "The out-of-work have to stop blaming themselves for the hard times and turn their anger on their bosses, the bureaucrats and the politicians who are in fact responsible."

Now, they want you to believe that after people in Europe -- or in Egypt have been living around miserable dictator who's raped and murdered their family members for 30 years, out of the clear blue skies, Egyptian suddenly woke up and say, you know what, things are especially crappy today here, honey. I think I'm going to go out and riot. And I'm thinking about socialism and social justice as well.

Really? Those who want caliphate and those who want communism or a new world order, they all need the same thing first. Unrest and chaos -- this is unmistakably planned.

If you want to cause global chaos, what is the first place you set it? I mean, do you start in San Francisco? No. You start in the Middle East. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 2/3/11, via Nexis]

Beck: "This Is Not A Revolution In Egypt. This Is An Islamist Socialist Revolution. It Has Nothing To Do With Democracy." From the show:

BECK: I don't know about you, because you have a life. I don't. I've read the Soviet communist constitution. It guaranteed right to work, rest, leisure, health protection, care on old age, sickness, housing, education, cultural benefit -- hmm, almost like a pursuit of happiness in a really twisted, distorted sort of way.

Do you see what they've done? They are taking the horrific ideas of communism -- a system that has produced nothing but misery, poverty and slaughter of tens of millions of people, hundreds of millions globally and packaged it around democracy, the republic, Thomas Jefferson.

They think you're a moron. This is not a revolution in Egypt. This is an Islamist socialist revolution in Egypt. It has nothing to do with democracy.

I mean, they must think we're really dumb. I mean, the ad that Code Pink is running on the Muslim Brotherhood's Web site says, "Join us in cleansing our country."

Well, can I ask you something? In this day and age of rhetoric, when you are working with a group -- two groups that want to destroy and kill Jews, this one and this one, do you really think it's a good idea to use the word "cleanse"? "Help us cleanse our country"? Does anybody think it's a bad P.R. faux pas that they are using, "cleanse our country"? Help us?

Remember, this same group that led the freedom flotilla with Weather Underground founders. Who? Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn. Yes.

But don't mind -- no, they don't pay -- oh, you're going back to the '60s? No. Recently. Bernardine Dohrn, Bill Ayers, Code Pink -- they get together and do freedom flotilla. We pointed this out. We went over it.

Let me just remind you that Bill Ayers has never ever, nor has Bernadine Dohrn, ever said, you know what? I regret what we said and what we did in the '60s. In fact, they say, we should have done more. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 2/3/11]

Beck Suggests Code Pink Is Working With The Muslim Brotherhood In Egypt. From the show:

BECK: Let's just -- let's just take it from here. Now let's look at Code Pink. Here are the goals -- remember, the Muslim Brotherhood goal is to destroy Israel and kill all the Jews. Hamas' goal is to destroy Israel and kill all the Jews. I'm sensing a pattern here.

But, now, Code Pink -- Code Pink, women for peace, you know, their goal is democracy and peace. If I were on "Sesame Street," I'd say to you, "Kids, one of these things just doesn't belong."

So, they are for democracy and peace, so they just must be cuddly. Here they are protesting last weekend in Palm Springs, California.

[begin video clip]

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: What do you mean by revolution?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Revolution -- you know what I mean by revolution. It's happening now in Egypt. The same thing needs to happen here.

[end video clip]

BECK: OK. This is the beginning of it. Oh, wait until you hear about the violent rhetoric, wait until you hear what they want to do with me and everybody here at Fox News. Oh, yes.

Violent rhetoric -- let's just take a look at quick history of Code Pink. They were instrumental in organizing the freedom flotilla that provoked a deadly confrontation with Israeli commandos. Remember that one? Oh, that was Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas in that one.

They turned up on the Muslim Brotherhood's Web site. Here's their Web site. Do you their -- do you have the ad? Yes.

Here it is. And here's Code Pink. Here they are in Egypt. They're all worried about violence, you know, when they organize the flotilla. Quote, "Hamas has pledged to ensure our safety." That's Code Pink. Hamas pledged to ensure -- oh, that's great.

So, they are working with the Muslim Brotherhood. They are in Egypt now. And they dig in Hamas. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 2/3/11, via Nexis]

Friday: Beck Concludes Egypt Unrest Will "Eventually" Lead To "War" Between Leftists, Muslim Brotherhood

Beck: "Their Revolutionary Goals May Be Different, But I Think They're Willing To Overlook That For Now." From Beck's Friday show:

BECK: What's happening in Egypt isn't happy-go-lucky freedom lovers suddenly rising up. Oh, I'm sure there are some people like that in the mix.

But let's look at the latest poll numbers on the average Egyptian. Eighty-two percent believe adulterers should be stoned to death. Do you believe that? Seventy-seven percent believe thieves should be flogged or have their hands cut off.

This is a revolution, and it is playing with nitroglycerin and they're hoping that it will ignite the entire Middle East. Their revolutionary goals may be different, but I think they're willing to overlook that for now. But mark my words: these guys [points to leftist groups on blackboard] will go to war with these guys [points to Muslim Brotherhood on blackboard] eventually. They will. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 2/4/11, via Nexis]

Know what I love about republicans? They always remind me of that phrase, "A stopped Clock is right twice a day." It seems to be their entire strategy really. Beck shouts "marxist! Communist!" at everything that should anything ever show any hint of any of those ideologies, or the fake versions of it that are more common on the right, he'll eventually be able to say he was right. Even though he wasnt.

Same thing with elections. There were just as many silly republicans screaming that Obama'd never win the election. And those same people are the ones who are screaming that we'll lose in 2012. If they scream every year they're bound to get one right every now and then, but they're usually just hilariously wrong.

Or maybe Fox and the tea party are like the taco bell of political movements. Beck takes right wing persecution complex, adds Obama, something that goes on somewhere totally unrelated to obama, democrats, a confused view of socialism, jews, non-white people, and LGBT groups, And just sticks that same template onto anything that happens anywhere.

It doesnt matter if it makes sense. They churn out about 1000 go nowhere stories for every 1 story they make. Its basically a process of churning self contained, senseless vitriolic attacks against anyone the right doesnt like, through huge wordclouds and demographic profiling to find out which got the most broad acceptance among the rightwing gibberlings, and then push that as if it were an actual story.

You can see them do it, randomly tossing out these tiny lil non sequitur, insane attacks and later expanding them into the some horrific mess they do every time one sticks.

"They churn out about 1000 go nowhere stories for every 1 story they make"

That's why they should never get credit or attention even when they're right or uncover genuine wrongdoing. It just validates the method. It's literally impossible for a conservative to have a good idea or a valid point, since the odds of it being a lucky hit from a random word generator are overwhelming.

Actually it is very sad. Beck is acting like a long line of dry alcoholics that I have seen in my work at a detox unit years ago. Delusional, could actually pass a lie detector test about what he says. Probably just because he is sooooooooooo delusional. And obviously, the poor thing just cannot get a grip and he may be so far gone, he is believing his delusions and does not even understand that they make no sense. What a sad little person he truly is. Sort of text book illustration of the perils of drinking.

What part of conspiracy theory don't these dolts get? The larger the conspiracy, the harder it is to keep secret. Don't you think that by now with all the wire tapping, and video taping going on someone somewhere would have found out about it besides Glenn Beck? His smear of Professor Ramadan is classic Beck connecting dots all over the place to create his crazy fantasy with no relation to reality. In a few short illogical jumps he manages to connect Hamas all the way to Obama

Tariq Ramadan is apparently a threat because his grandfather founded the Muslim Brotherhood. Tariq Ramadan also gave $940 to a few charity organizations accused by the Bush administration of having connections to Hamas. (Well if you're an aid organization helping people in Gaza you have to deal with Hamas in one way or another. )

And Obama is a danger because he let this "dangerous" man into the United States.

Last night, I was home, dog-tired, and had a couple of drinks in me, so I decided to go to stoopidTown, and watched a rerun of some of this beck lunacy. I found that I needed more drinks.

My favorite connection may be the Code Pink/ Hamas laugher. Saying that somebody has guaranteed the safety of Code Pink ( From Hamas?) is casually paraphrased to "Code Pink working with Hamas".

Another great segment was beck coloring in all of the middle East nations with different colored chalk, basically dividing them into "Lost" or "gone", and "not lost", based on arbitrary factors he and his guest mumbled ( Riots in the streets? Gone! Unrest? Lost!).

The highlight of this, and excuse me, I was disoriented at this point, and I'm not sure which region they were talking about, and beck seemed stumped. He couldn't seem to put one of the states into a column quickly. He looked to his guest, who helped him out. " As an Evangelical, they have the God of the Bible on their side, so they're OK".

Beck nodded thoughtfully, and pulled out the appropriate color chalk. Fan-Tastic!

But only Beck can see what's REALLY happening. It's a secret plot between the Beatles and Islam......

Conservative talk radio and Fox News host Glenn Beck called for an invasion of the United Kingdom on Friday to head off what he called an attempt by the British to re-establish America as a colony, as well as the rest of the British Empire.

Beck said he recently saw a documentary on “the British invasion” of rock bands during the 1960s and realized it was the cause of recent unrest in Egypt and the Islamic world overall, given that Britain once had colonies in the Middle East.

“Make no mistake this is all part of a trend,” Beck said as he put album covers from The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and The Dave Clark Five on his chalkboard. He also put up pictures of Saddam Hussein, Adolph Hitler and, for some unclear reason, Lenny Kosnowksi from the 1970s-era sitcom Laverne & Shirley. He then drew circles, lines and smiley faces to link these disparate elements together, along with the date “1776” and “War of 1812.”

      (continued….)

I just want to point out here (since the comments are closed for that particular clip this is in reference to), that in the February 1 edition of Fox News' Glenn Beck he shows a brochure/leaflet that instructs, among other things, in defensive measures against Egypt's riot police (mmtv/201102010044). He implies that the originators or audience of this brochure/leaflet are somehow islamist. Of course, there is no evidence for this whatsoever. There is no reference to Islam or Islamism in that brochure/leaflet at all. Whoever wants to look that up can google "Egyptian Activists' Action Plan: Translated" (article on The Atlantic) and "Egypt protest leaflets distributed in Cairo give blueprint for mass action" (article on The Guardian).

Google "Egypt's VP uses state TV to blame unrest on 'foreign agendas'" (article on The Christian Science Monitor) and "Egyptian woman: Mossad used me to topple Mubarak regime" (article on ynet.com) to see examples of the crazy conspiracy theories the Egyptian government is pushing to rile up the rabble against the protestors and journalists.

Reading this tells us a lot about what's unspoken about Beck's worldview.

He cannot accept that all of these seemingly disparate and unconnected groups are actually oppressed and are legitimately expressing their displeasure at the same time. To him they must be bound together by a shadowy conspiracy organized by enemies from without and traitors from within.

Another conclusion that must be drawn from what he has said here is his absolute faith that the nation state must have a single cultural and political philosophy and any deviation from this represents a threat to it's very existence and must be purged.

I thought these very same ideas had been vanquished in the second world war, looks like they're back.
