Beck Lashes Out At Bill Kristol And Breaks Down The Fight Against Evil

February 07, 2011 3:22 pm ET — 84 Comments

Glenn Beck lashed out at Fox News contributor Bill Kristol after Kristol criticized Beck's "hysteria" over Egypt. Beck went on to detail how "the forces of evil have linked arms."

Kristol Criticized Beck For "Rant[ing] About The Caliphate Taking Over The Middle East"

Kristol: Beck Is "Marginalizing Himself" Through His "Hysteria." Fox News contributor Bill Kristol wrote of Beck's reaction to the Egyptian protests:

Now, people are more than entitled to their own opinions of how best to accomplish that democratic end. And it's a sign of health that a political and intellectual movement does not respond to a complicated set of developments with one voice.

But hysteria is not a sign of health. When Glenn Beck rants about the caliphate taking over the Middle East from Morocco to the Philippines, and lists (invents?) the connections between caliphate-promoters and the American left, he brings to mind no one so much as Robert Welch and the John Birch Society. He's marginalizing himself, just as his predecessors did back in the early 1960s. [The Weekly Standard2/14/11]

Beck Lashes Out At Kristol

Beck: "I'm Going To Show You The Face Of Evil Today, And Let Bill Kristol's Words Fall Where They May." From Beck's radio show:

BECK: Apparently -- apparently Republicans are just trying to appropriate Ronald Reagan, who, we're not even really sure if he was a conservative anymore, apparently at this point.

Bill Kristol has said, me and anybody else that says, "You know, maybe we should hold off on the Muslim Brotherhood thing," is just a John Bircher. Really the Egyptian revolt is 1776, according to William Kristol.

I'm going to show you the face of evil today, and let Bill Kristol's words fall where they may. You decide: good versus evil. [Premiere Radio Networks, The Glenn Beck Program, 2/07/11]

Beck: "I'm Going To Have To Dumb It Down For Bill Kristol." From Beck's radio show:

BECK: Many have a hard time understanding where the political left in Europe and the United States have common ground with this theo-political Islamicist movement. Socialist ideology promotes the oppression - and I'm going to have to dumb it down for Bill Kristol, who is so stuck in 1983, you think -- no probably, '78.

GRAY: Yeah, probably before the Iranian revolution

BECK: Yeah. Hey Bill -- no, seriously, you've done a swell, swell job on keeping conservatives together and steering our country in the right direction -

GRAY: Hasn't he?

BECK: No, he has.

GRAY: No. Seriously.

BECK: No, seriously. All the right elite, you have done such a fabulous job.

GRAY: Tremendous job.

BECK: You know, I think all of the meat off of Barry Goldwater has been gone now since about the time that you showed up. And so, but you've done a great thing with his bones for a while, holding them up and going, hey we should be like Barry Goldwater. And you're like, that's just Barry Goldwater's bones. I don't even know if you even understand what conservatives are anymore, Billy. But I'll try to slow down for you. [Premiere Radio Networks, The Glenn Beck Program, 2/07/11]

Beck: "That's The Kind Of Thinking That Bill Kristol Has Been Engaged In That Got Us Into This Impossible Situation" In Egypt. Beck also said:

BECK: The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Now, if you would like to live in the world for conservatives created by Bill Kristol, you go ahead and do that. I'm not interested.

GRAY: Well Bill seems to draw a parallel here between what's going on in Egypt and what happened with the United States and the Constitution and Declaration of Independence.

BECK: Oh yeah. No, it's -

GRAY: That document, he says, let's not forget, proclaims that whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends - life, liberty and pursuit of happiness - it's the right of people to alter or to abolish it.

BECK: I'm sure Bill Kristol has written many, many, many, many, many papers saying that we should get out of bed and stop spending money in Egypt.

GRAY: Oh, the anti-Hosni Mubarak rhetoric -

BECK: Hosni Mubarak rhetoric from Bill Kristol has been -

GRAY: It's gotta be extensive, he's probably got a whole library filled -

BECK: - either, either that or that's the kind of thinking that Bill Kristol has been engaged in that got us into this impossible situation, because people like Bill Kristol, I don't think they actually stand for anything anymore. All they stand for is power, and they'll do anything to keep their little fiefdom together, and they'll do anything they have to to keep the Republican power entrenched. I'm sorry: the system doesn't work. And, Bill, honestly, I don't even know you, and I just disagree with you. I'm sure you're a delightful person, and I do thank you for the time that you have spent in Washington trying to keep conservative principles alive. But I think you've confused conservative principles now with conservative progressive principles. And really, times have changed, Bill. Times have changed.

It's time to see the world as it really is, and to see how these big government solutions, and getting into bed with dictators is really something the left does and not something that the right should do. [Premiere Radio Networks, The Glenn Beck Program, 2/07/11]

Beck Asks Kristol: "Have You Done A Minute of Research, Bill?" From Beck's radio show:

Tonight on television, I would invite you - we're going to show you the beginning of this group. We're gonna show you also the shadow parliament, the beginning of our research on this. And this shows, instead of people like William Kristol - and I apologize, you know, I just - I get really testy, and I shouldn't, and it's a flaw of mine. And I get really testy when I hear people who should get it come after me. It's like, really? Have you done a minute of research, Bill? Have you done it? 'Cause if you did, a minute of research - I can show you - I'll point you to all the credible - I'll point you to their own words.

You know, in fact, Bill, I'm sorry. Just watch the show. Just watch the show in the next week. We are going to show you not only the Muslim Brotherhood, and their connections to the left in Egypt, and how this socialist - can you play the socialist we have in - from England that is talking about, this is in 2008, where he was talking about how well-coordinated and trained they've been. We'll show you who's been training them.

We'll be showing - we'll show you what they want, and what they want is revolution. Some of them want a caliphate. That is not a crazy idea. The Ayatollah Khamenei talked about it just last week. It's not a crazy idea, it's not a conspiracy. And joining with the left? Well, here is an Egyptian socialist talking about revolution in Egypt. [Premiere Radio Networks, The Glenn Beck Program, 2/07/11]

Beck Lays Out The "Forces Of Evil"

Beck: "The Forces Of Evil Have Linked Arms." Beck claimed that he "can define evil for you":

Now we're willing to get into bed with the Muslim Brotherhood. Because well, we've got to - no you don't. Do we have no values? Yes we do. And if we don't discover them soon, we're in trouble. Because I can define evil for you. I can define it. I can show it to you. I can show it to you linking arm in arm, all the way across the water, all the way here. This isn't - this isn't conjecture. This is fact.

[...]

But I will tell you that the forces of evil have linked arms, because the enemy of my enemy is my friend. If you look at the entire world, China. Is China a force for good or for evil? I'm not talking about prosperity. I'm not talking about our money, I'm not talking about our products, I'm talking about a force of good or evil. A country that will drown its own people in their rice paddies. They will take the second child and kill them, shoot them, in the house. Is that a force for good or evil? Clearly, evil.

Russia, a force for good or evil? Clearly, evil. Ahmadinejad. Pakistan. Afghanistan. Iraq. North Korea. A force for good or evil? Saudi Arabia, Egypt. Then you get into the slippery ones. France. Is France a good or evil? Well I can't say that they're a force for good. For righteousness? France? Germany. For righteousness? England. The United States of America. [Premiere Radio Networks, The Glenn Beck Program, 2/07/11]

Beck: "I Truly Believe That We Are Fighting The Forces Of Evil On This Planet." From Beck's radio show:

I truly believe that we are fighting the forces of evil on this planet. And if anybody wants to make fun of that, that's fine. Anybody wants to dismiss that as crackpot, that's fine. I'm totally fine with that. There is evil. And you can either recognize it or not.

But the same kind of socialist ideas, the same kind of fascist ideas, were embraced in Germany and in Italy. And those two reached out to the Islamic extremists of their day as well. And the Islamic extremists joined the socialists. It is the same coalition. It is the same ideas, it is the same damn people. The same tree is bearing this evil fruit again, except this time, the west has been so incredibly ravaged and lulled into sleep that there's nobody even ringing the bell at this point. True enough, but then again, Beck wouldn't "fight" in regards to anything. He's willing to "fight" it out in his studio, from in the back of a microphone, but really to FIGHT! No way. not in Glenn Beck's lifetime. Sure, he'll call for other people to do the dirty work, but he'd not be willing to do it himself. Guarantee that.

I don't much care for Beck, however did you know Code Pink, I thought it was Mom's for Peace, has banner ads on the Brotherhood website? All the groups who worked with BM in the deadly blockade? We all know all the food and medicine needed is brought via ground transport. I hate to say it but I think Beck's point,if he even realizes it, a lot of us are backing the wrong horse. Can we be for a Democratic leadership that does not want to slaughter the Jewish people? Maybe I'm the last one but I am pro-Israel and pro-Palestine. We better be careful who we support. For the last 30yrs we have backed a pro-USA but anti Egyptian leader. Let's not support one who is anti-USA and starts the next war against Israel. There, hopefully, is some leader who will lead the Egyptian people to a free and open society without the slaughter of the Jewish people as his main platform. If Beck brings forth information that is TRUE , take the information and leave his opinion to lay on the ground to die or sprout. Information about a country we know little of, unlike Beck, don't fear info...just KNOW what is really happening.

Really? Have you looked at the Muslim Brotherhood website, or are you just regurgitating talking points? It took 1 minute to check out the info --I googled "Muslim brotherhood", looked at the english language site, and verified -- no codepink ads. The only thing close to an ad was for wikileaks. Instead of assuming everything you're told is true, try doing some research.

I do not know whether to just laugh hysterically at this comment from Beck? "I'm Going To Have To Dumb It Down For Bill Kristol." or just credit his comment to a totally conceited, egotistical goof who has no idea what he is talking about. Please, please, folks, do not believe that this guy speaks for Republicans. He is off on his own in his own little world raving away. A perfect illustration of a dry alcoholic in the throes of delusions of grandeur.

I could not stop giggling when I read this Beck comment: "I'm Going To Have To Dumb It Down For Bill Kristol." On the one hand, you have Beck with his paranoid, altered mind from years of booze. On the other hand, there is Bill Kristol with his insightful, coherent, brilliant mind and his successful life work. Guess who looks positively silly! It is NOT Kristol!

Exactly! American liberals love gay people and women's liberation while despising religious fundamentalism more than anything in the world... especially religious fundamentalism within government!!

It makes no sense on any level. What is Glenn's "logic" here??

Because Islamic societies also provide "collective" social services, the America left desires a coalition with Islamic fundamentalists so that social services can be provided across all of Europe when the Islamic caliphate invades?!?!

The American left will support Islamic religious fundamentalism as long as they are working towards sound health care and education policies as they invade and conquer the world?!?!

Please somebody help me make sense of Glenn's nonsense. How is it logical or strategic for the American left to cozy up with Islamic fundamentalists in any way, shape or form??

      A Couple things:
Is _____ a force for good or for evil?

When you start breaking groups of people down to this black and white level, you really are not helping the debate. The reason for this is that branding one position as "good" and one position as "evil" inherently makes one position correct and one incorrect. And who would want to listen to the position that is inherently incorrect?

If you start thinking about the MERITS of their position, then you can see the GOOD in their position (adopting the position that no one position is inherently all "good" or inherently all "evil"), then you can start to have a debate to incorporate all of their "good" ideas and your "good" ideas and you can then compromise on a set of principles that both sides agree is "good".

      "conservative progressive principles"

HUH?!?!?! There is such a position as Conservative Progressive?

It is about time that some of these reporters from Fox like Bill come out and tell the truth about the craziness of Beck. We all know that the majority of those on Fox are not actual reporters, they are like Beck, commentators and do no actual research. In fact he told the ladies of The View as much when he was on and got caught in a bold faced lie. But he must have forgotten that when he asks Bill if he does any research. I know he has high ratings for a cable show but really he is bringing down the entire network with his insanity. But I guess if you get rid of him, there is still Hannity, Malkin, Kelly, and the entire cast of that wacky morning show, Fox and Friends. I truly think that the only reason anyone would watch Beck is to fuel an anger they have inside AND they are just as insane as he is. Plus the man is dangerous, I believe someone is going to end up dead because of the things he says on his show. Too bad he won't be charged with any crime when it happens. Here is hoping the family of the victim sues him for every penny he has, and wins!

If there's one thing politicians are good at, it's saving their own necks. Eventually Becky will be abandoned by the Republican primary hopefuls on Fox News and Hucky, Sarah, et al will push each other out of the way to get off the sinking ship S.S. Glenn Beck. Then they'll claim they never listened to him, even though they sat in his studio for a couple years, not even grasping the hypocrisy of that statement.

A segment of the American conservative movement has always preferred to believe the worst about our country and our leaders. Glenn Beck appeals to that segment.

Ultimately, The Beck Syndrome [TBS], is a primal scream against what is perceived as powerful, secretive villains [the Birch Society calls them "Insiders"] who should be vanquished and rendered impotent but, instead, they are thought to influence and control everything that matters in our country.

The TBS is not dependent upon the accuracy of individual statements which comprise its conspiracy narrative -- which is why even when such statements are falsified it has no effect whatsoever upon the narrative...because TBS is a mentality that can never be overcome with words, facts, or logic.

I have spent over 40 years debating John Birch Society officials, JBS members and JBS supporters. They are incapable of acknowledging materially important errors in fact or logic--even when contradictory evidence originates from sources which, previously, the JBS has explicitly identified as knowledgeable, authoritative and reliable.

Nothing could be worse, from the JBS perspective, than for conditions to improve---if that improvement requires relinquishing some portion of JBS dogma.

The following report explains why J. Edgar Hoover and senior FBI officials within the Bureau's Domestic Intelligence Division concluded in FBI memos that the JBS was "extremist", "irrational", "irresponsible" --- and why the FBI considered groups like the JBS (and people like Glenn Beck) to be harmful to our national security.

Well, if it is so obvious, why don't you explain it to us gman. Tell us what exactly Beck's theory is of what is happening in Egypt, who all of these players are, and how they are all connected. It should be pretty simple after all of your intense research. Please tell me how Van Jones and Piven and Cloward and the Black Panters (?) are working with Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood and what that has to do with the rioting.

Heh. While I love the image of a wingnut doing "research," I don't think rereading THE TURNER DIARIES and ATLAS SHRUGGED counts. The really funny thing about Glenn Beck telling Bill Kristol to do a little research is that Beck is a college dropout and Kristol, for all his foppish stupidity, knows a buttload about the Middle East. You guys must have loved Wacky Wednesdays in elementary school, huh?

Oh, Beck isn't a college dropout in the literal sense. He took one religion class as a special non-traditional student at Yale. He gained admission with the help of Joe Lieberman, who used to be Beck's friend. He couldn't hack a full semester of one religion class. It's iffy whether he even graduated from high school. Originally, his biographies indicated that he was not a good student and liked to call himself a "self-educated" man. When his lack of high school diploma was questioned, his biographies started saying he graduated in "the 80s." Now, it gives a year.

Beck is simply a con-man and has admitted to being one.

Gman, again, Glenn Beck calls people like you who take what he says as gospel (truth) IDIOTS. There's lots and lots of information on the internet which is pure BS. An intelligent person learns to glean the BS from the truth. Apparently, since you believe that Beck tells you the truth, you haven't learned to glean the BS from the truth. So, that makes you a) an idiot (based on Beck's own assessment) and b) unintelligent.

              Get help. Beck's a self-admitted con-man and you're being conned.

As I said above, intelligent people know how to distinguish BS on the internet from fact. You apparently don't have that ability. You are, therefore, an idiot AND stupid.

Get help, gman. Your hero is a self-admitted con-man and you are being conned.

At the same time, though, he says he is an entertainer. "I'm a rodeo clown," he said in an interview, adding with a coy smile, "It takes great skill." [...]

But also note when Barbara Walters asks him about researching his subjects for his show, his answer, he isn't a reporter, he is a commentator, he does no research.

Given the Messianic Religious Right Choo-Choo that GB became the self-appointed Conductor of in 2010,it was inevitable that the Politcal Right would soon be un-hitching their cars from his un-hinged choo-choo, ASAP.

If one dared to venture into the turbulent waters of instability wherein Glenndalina's current state of mind was wrought-- waters wherein even angels fear to tread - one would find themselves in the fluid interpretations of Biblical Prophecy which grasps upon every current event in the Middle East (as well as the rest of the world) as concrete proof that the Apocalypse has begun.
If one has never been steeped in the waters of this particular type of fundamental Judaeo-Christian Prophecy, Preacher-Professor Glenn's "teachings" make little sense.
However, it all makes perfect sense to the Religious faction within the Conservative Right that Glenn is playing to now. Glenndalina is channeling every "prophecy expert" living and dead, from Cleon Skousen to the "Left Behind" author, Tim LaHaye to Mega-Evangelicals like John Hagee.

I dare say that it would not surprise me one bit to hear references to "The Whore of Babylon" "The Beast and "The False Prophet" join GB's increasing references to "The Anti-Christ". Inquiring minds want to know---
--Will Professor Glenn soon be showing us the math that proves how George Soros' name adds up to "666"??
