Media Matters Goes Light Bulb Shopping

January 23, 2012 1:45 pm ET by Jill Fitzsimmons, Jocelyn Fong, & Jon Salvia

For over a year, conservative media outlets have told consumers that in January 2012, they would no longer be able to purchase incandescent light bulbs due to federal efficiency standards. A trip to CVS shows that in fact, incandescent light bulbs are available, only now they're more efficient.

Those lightbulbs are in the aisle next to the bullets and guns that you can no longer buy thanks to Obama. (/snark)

That's all part of his cunning plan. He wants you to see that guns, bullets, and light bulbs are still for sale while at the same time taking them away from you.

Anything the President does, they claim that he really wants the opposite affect so its really a mass conspiracy that only they can see and protect us from.

While upgrading the lighting in my kitchen, I found some LED lights that last a long time in some of the can lights that we put into the ceiling--and also added a dimmer switch. They were all one unit and less about the same or less than regular cans and lights. They last a lot longer and are cheaper to operate.

I have seen the enemy and he is fox.

we installed LED lights in the old incandescent sockets, and while the initial cost was higher, our lighting bills are WAY less. the LED can change color to suit your mood, and the will dim. and way less heat that also cuts down on A/C bills which we use all year here in so.cal... this year we will install solar panels, that should allow us to be mostly off the grid, and that will pay for itself in 2 years..... tax credits too, thank you.
leave it to the GOP/baggers, to think using a 120 year old filament type lightbulb, that wastes over 60% of its energy, is ok.

I started installing the new LED lights in my apartment a few years ago. I have yet to have to change one. My electric bills in the seasons I don't have to run air conditioning have gone down as KW/hr rates have gone up.

This is more madness and fake outrage. This is the equivalent of telling people that indoor plumbing will ruin their lives despite all the health, convenience and public sanitation issues it will resolve.

Can you believe we have an actual, admitted, anti-environmental movement now? What's next? The anti-puppy and birthday cake association?

Again, madness by madmen perpetrated on our public airwaves.
