Sally Bedell Smith's book For Love of
Politics: Bill and Hillary Clinton: The White House Years has largely
escaped factual scrutiny, although Smith has appeared on several network and
cable news programs to publicize the book. Media Matters has identified several
errors and flaws in Smith's
book.

Dershowitz review of O'Reilly Kids book concluded "it should be placed ... with the joke books"

In his review of Bill O'Reilly's book, Kids Are Americans Too, which
O'Reilly co-wrote with Charles Flowers, Harvard Law professor Alan
Dershowitz wrote:
"This book is so riddled with errors, inconsistencies, bad advice and
hypocrisy that ...
it should be placed in the adults-only section of the bookstore. Or better yet,
with the joke books." Dershowitz also noted comments O'Reilly has
made on his nationally syndicated radio show that Media Matters for America has highlighted, including
O'Reilly's 2005 comments about calling on the FBI to arrest the
"clowns" at Air America Radio; his on-air description of his trip
to Sylvia's restaurant; and his comments about the media and Phil
Spector.

Ad placed on NRO for book on Bush "imperial presidency" falsely suggests it forecasts Hillary Clinton as "the most powerful president in American history"

A web advertisement placed on National Review Online for Charlie Savage's book,
Takeover: The Return of the Imperial
Presidency and the Subversion of American Democracy, asked: "Hillary
Clinton: the most powerful president in American history... Will this be the
surprise legacy of the Bush-Cheney years?" But Savage has not alleged -- either
in the book or during discussions of it -- that Clinton, if elected, would use presidential
powers expanded as a result of the precedents established under the Bush
administration or attempt to expand presidential power even
further.

WorldNetDaily's Farah: "Many of us who crossed the Clintons ... feared for our lives as a result"

In a column discussing
Kathleen Willey's new
book, Joseph Farah -- founder and editor of the right-wing news
website WorldNetDaily -- asserted: "Many of us who crossed the Clintons -- whether it was because of
what we wrote or whether it was because we didn't yield to unwanted sexual
attacks -- feared for
our lives as a result of winding up on their 'enemies list.' " He also claimed
that "there were real-world consequences to being on the Clintons' enemies list,"
such as "losing jobs," "threats and harassment," "invasion of privacy,"
"break-ins and dead pets and flat tires," and "audits from the Internal Revenue
Service."

Willey rehashes Vince Foster conspiracy theories, draws parallels to her husband's death, Hsu's attempted suicide

In her new book, Kathleen Willey rehashes conspiracy theories regarding Vince
Foster's 1993 suicide and suggests possible parallels between Foster's death and
the suicide of her husband, a
Clinton fundraiser, as well as the reported
suicide attempt of Norman Hsu. In
fact, numerous investigations have determined that Foster's death
was a suicide. Also, independent counsel Robert Ray found that Willey had given conflicting and false information related to her allegations against
President Bill Clinton.

The Hill uncritically reported Gerth's false claim that "there hasn't been one fact in" Her Way "that's been challenged"

The Hill uncritically reported
Jeff Gerth's claim that Sen. Hillary Clinton's "campaign has not disputed any
facts reported in the final version of his book," Her Way, adding: "There hasn't been one
fact in the book that's been challenged." However, Clinton's presidential
campaign has taken issue with the book's claim that, as far back as 1993, the Clintons "planned two terms in the
White House for Bill and, later, two for Hillary."

NBC still promoting Coulter's books, despite Fox & Friends' claim to the contrary

Contrary to the assertion by Fox &
Friends co-host Steve Doocy that NBC's Today "booked" Ann Coulter "to talk about
her book, and they didn't talk about her book," Today host Meredith Vieira noted in her
introduction of Coulter that she has a new book out, the book appeared on-screen
at the beginning and end of the interview, and Vieira did bring it up during the
interview. The Today appearance
marks at
least Coulter's 195th
appearance on an NBC-operated channel.

Van Natta falsehood exposed: Anonymous sources far outnumber named sources in Her Way

Her
Way co-author Don Van Natta Jr. claimed that, in writing the book,
he and Jeff Gerth "were able to interview 500 people, many of them on the
record -- most of them on the record." In fact, a Media Matters review counted 101 distinct named interviewees in the book's endnotes. Of the 873 citations to interviews, 309 were to interviews of named sources, while 564 were to interviews of anonymous sources.
