Fox News' Wilson, CBS affiliate misrepresented Couric's claims about Fallujah, Anbar

An article posted on wcbstv.com (the online website of New York CBS affiliate
WCBS-TV) claimed that, during an interview with WCBS, Katie Couric "sa[id] she
has already seen dramatic improvements in the country" and that "incidents [of
violence] in Iraq have gone down dramatically."
Similarly, Fox News' Brian Wilson reported that Couric "says she has seen major
improvements during her visit to Iraq." But Couric was talking about
the city of Fallujah and Anbar province when she
referred to progress, not Iraq as a whole.

UPDATED: Fox News' African-American elected official mix-up not its first

On The Live Desk,
Fox News showed footage of Rep.
John Conyers while Brian Wilson reported on the expected indictment of Rep. William Jefferson. This is not the first time Fox News has shown footage of one African-American elected official while discussing another -- in the previous case, airing footage of Harold Ford Jr. while talking about Sen. Barack Obama.

Fox's Wilson falsely suggested NBC alone in characterizing Iraq situation as "civil war"

In his report on whether it is "accurate to
call what is happening [in Iraq] a civil war," as NBC News recently
decided to do, Fox
News' Brian Wilson featured several people who say that Iraq is not experiencing a civil war, while noting only the announcement by NBC News explaining of its decision.
Wilson did not mention
any of the numerous scholars, journalists, and retired military officers who
have described Iraq as being in the midst of a civil war.

Fox News rallies behind Wallace, attacks Clinton

Fox News dedicated its coverage of an interview of President Clinton by Chris Wallace to portraying Wallace as the victim, while depicting Clinton as having a "complete meltdown," an "angry explosion," a "volcanic reaction," and as going on a "tirade" during the interview.

Media uncritically reported, overstated missile defense system's ability to defend against actual attack

Recent reports on the reported activation of the U.S. ground-based missile defense system have overstated its ability to defend against an actual attack and uncritically reported administration claims about its effectiveness. Government Accountability Office reports indicate that the system has no proven ability to shoot down a hostile missile.

Fox's Wilson cropped Bush's apparent confirmation of NSA call-tracking reports

Fox News' Brian Wilson cropped a quote from President Bush at a press conference, omitting a statement in which Bush appeared to confirm a USA Today report that the National Security Agency is collecting records of "tens of millions" of Americans' telephone calls. Without any further explanation, Wilson then reported that "a few minutes later," White House press secretary Tony Snow "insisted the president was not confirming details of the original USA Today report."

Fox pundits: Dems' culture of corruption campaign defunct with DeLay departure

On Fox News, numerous media figures asserted that Rep. Tom DeLay's (R-TX) decision to resign from Congress will hurt Democrats' ability to campaign against congressional Republicans' record of corruption -- and DeLay's part in it -- during the November 2006 midterm elections. But such predictions overlook the widening ethics scandals involving DeLay and the Republican Party.

Fox's Wilson falsely reported that budget cuts passed House "along party lines"

Fox News' Brian Wilson falsely reported that legislation enacting nearly $40 billion in budget cuts, from programs including federal student loans and Medicaid, "passed along party lines." In fact, 13 Republicans joined all 200 Democrats and one independent in voting against the measure.
