Wash. Post's Broder joins Cohen in ignoring numerous falsehoods, asserts McCain "is not assumed to be willing to sacrifice personal credibility to prevail"

The Washington Post's David Broder wrote that Sen. John McCain "is the rare exception who is not assumed to be willing to sacrifice personal credibility to prevail in any contest," while Sen. Hillary Clinton "ha[s] added to her reputation for opportunism" with "[t]he negative attacks she has launched against [Sen. Barack] Obama." It was the second time this week that a Post columnist has explicitly contrasted McCain's and Clinton's credibility and perceived integrity, suggesting that the former is motivated by principle, and the latter, by a desire to win, ignoring McCain's numerous falsehoods committed during his presidential campaign.

Brooks, Broder praised McCain's rebuke of Bush-style unilateralism, but didn't mention McCain's past comments attacking allies who opposed Iraq war

The New York Times' David Brooks asserted that Sen. John McCain's March 26 foreign policy speech "was so important because he broke with Bush on several ways" and described one of those ways as, "Should the U.S. go it alone on certain issues? He said no, we are -- we need a strong America, but in the community of nations. And he detailed that." Similarly, The Washington Post's David Broder wrote that McCain "outlin[ed] a vastly different approach from President Bush's" in the speech, in part by offering a "repudiation of unilateralism." Yet neither Brooks nor Broder accounted for any of the statements McCain made during the run-up to the Iraq war about France, Germany, and Belgium, which revealed a very different attitude to U.S. allies.

Broder's "difficult question" that "lingers ... unasked" about purported "dual presidency" was asked -- by his own paper

In his Washington Post column,
discussing "the prospect of a dual presidency" -- if former President Clinton
and Sen. Hillary Clinton return to the White House -- David Broder wrote that
"the country must decide whether it is comfortable with such a sharing of the
power and authority of the highest office in the land," adding that this is a
"difficult question" that "lingers, even if unasked." But neither Clinton has said that a
new Clinton White House would operate as "a dual presidency." Moreover, a recent
Washington Post/ABC News poll
found that 60 percent of respondents said they "personally feel comfortable ...
with the idea of Bill Clinton back in the White House, this time as first
husband," in contrast with the 30 percent who said they feel "uncomfortable."

Broder asserts Rove drank from Atwater's "magic potion," but doesn't provide its ingredients

Washington
Post columnist David Broder
asserted that "[Karl] Rove had drunk deeply of the magic potion dispensed by Lee
Atwater, the South
Carolina whiz who had absorbed the anger and frustration
of the white Southern blue-collar families with whom he was raised." But Broder
did not mention Atwater's repeated attempts to play on white
voters' sentiments about race.

Ignoring reader question about networks, Broder asserted media have been "aggressive and extensive" in covering Gonzales

In an online chat, David Broder responded to a question asking why "two out of three major networks have decided not to cover" James Comey's testimony about Alberto Gonzales attempting to pressure then-Attorney General John Ashcroft to reauthorize the administration's wiretapping program by claiming that "the coverage of the firing of the US attorneys has been aggressive and extensive, as it should be."
