NY Times falsely reported McCain "began tapping into" Bush donor base on February 12

The New York Times' Elisabeth Bumiller claimed that "Senator John McCain began tapping into President Bush's prized political donor base on Tuesday." In fact, four of the five "major McCain fundraisers" Bumiller mentioned in her article were either Bush Rangers or Pioneers -- people who raised $100,000 and $200,000, respectively -- during the 2004 election and signed up to raise money for McCain in 2007 or 2006.

Despite reversal, NY Times claimed McCain's advocacy for border security first is not a "change[]" in "his basic position"

A New York Times article about Sen. John McCain's speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference asserted that on the issue of immigration, McCain "has not changed his basic position." Similarly, National Public Radio's Mara Liasson stated, "McCain hasn't changed his position on providing illegal aliens with a pathway to citizenship, but he now has a new approach: secure the border first." In fact, McCain's current support for securing the border first represents a reversal of his prior position.

Two weeks after gushing over
John McCain's likely presidential bid, the host and panelists on The Chris
Matthews Show concluded that some
of Hillary Rodham Clinton's greatest
perceived strengths as a presidential candidate
were really weaknesses.

Fox News personalities serve up a host of CIA leak falsehoods, taking cue from misleading Wash. Post editorial

Fox News anchors and commentators seized upon a Washington Post editorial falsely asserting that the revelation that former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage was the original source for syndicated columnist Robert D. Novak's column exposing CIA operative Valerie Plame's identity disproved the notion of a coordinated effort within the White House to discredit former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV, using the occasion to repeat a host of false claims about the CIA leak case.

On the August 27 Chris Matthews Show, panelists Elisabeth Bumiller, Howard Fineman, and Michael Duffy failed to note Sen. John McCain's history of conflicting statements on President Bush's Iraq policy and on Donald Rumsfeld's performance as secretary of defense.

Bumiller stated she's "totally in favor of" Libby's NIE leak, which included false info

On the Chris Matthews Show, Elisabeth Bumiller noted that President Bush had ordered Vice President Dick Cheney to authorize I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby to leak portions of the National Intelligence Estimate on prewar intelligence. Bumiller then stated: "I'm totally in favor of leaking of any kind." But Bumiller neglected to mention that Libby testified that he had been authorized to leak false information to then-New York Times reporter Judith Miller to defend the administration's use of prewar intelligence.

Bumiller echoed White House denials that Bush is criticizing media over Iraq coverage

During a roundtable discussion on NBC's Meet the Press, New York Times reporter Elisabeth Bumiller uncritically repeated Bush administration assertions that the administration was not attempting to blame the media for negative public opinion about the Iraq war. In fact, administration officials have repeatedly suggested that the media have painted a distorted and disproportionately negative picture of Iraq.

NY Times' Sanger, Bumiller smeared Clinton over Pakistan trip

New York Times staff writers David Sanger and Elisabeth Bumiller used the opportunity presented by President Bush's March 3 visit to Pakistan to contrast Bush's "more public landing" on Air Force One with Clinton's 2000 visit, in which, Bumiller wrote, he "slipped into Islamabad for six hours on an unmarked military jet." However, both Sanger and Bumiller ignored the historical and political context of Clinton's trip to Pakistan and the security measures taken by Bush that undermine any notion that he "arrived with a roar on Air Force One."
