In their reports on Sen. Mel Martinez's
decision to take over as chairman of the Republican National Committee, The New York Times' Adam Nagourney
and Fox News' Jim Angle made no reference to Martinez's admission that
his office authored a controversial memo in the Terri Schiavo case and also did
not mention the controversy surrounding Martinez's campaign tactics in
2004.

CNN's King reported that Martinez had been tapped as RNC chair, omitted Schiavo memo, pattern of blaming staff for missteps

In reporting that Sen. Mel Martinez had accepted an offer to become chairman of
the Republican National Committee, CNN's John King failed to mention Martinez's
admission in April 2005 that his office had authored a memo touting the Terri Schiavo case
as "a great political issue" for Republicans because "the
pro-life base will be excited" and it "is a tough issue for
Democrats." King also ignored the controversies surrounding Martinez's 2004
Senate campaign.

On Special Report, Barnes misstated Lieberman's views on Terri Schiavo case

On Fox News' Special Report, Fred Barnes misrepresented Sen. Joseph Lieberman's position on legislation that allowed the federal government to intervene in the Terri Schiavo case. Barnes claimed that Lieberman said only that "he would have allowed her to keep ... the feeding tube in." But on Meet the Press in 2005, Lieberman couched the issue in terms of what the law required, not what he would personally do if put in a situation similar to Schiavo's family: Congress' involvement in the case "was justified" because "as a matter of law, if you go -- particularly to the 14th Amendment, [a person] can't be denied due process, have your life or liberty taken without due process of law."
