Who misrepresented Obama's tax plan? Anyone? Anyone? Ben Stein

On Fox & Friends, Ben Stein misrepresented Sen. Barack Obama's tax plan to raise the capital gains tax rate on the wealthiest earners, stating: "[P]eople that have incomes in the five digits ... that's crazy to increase their capital gains tax." In fact, Obama has said he would not raise the capital gains tax on individuals with income of less than $250,000.

On Fox, Napolitano claimed McCain "for his whole career, has tried to stay above this kind of a fray"

Discussing an attack ad on Sen. Barack Obama that Sen. John McCain has denounced, Fox & Friends co-host Andrew Napolitano asserted: "John McCain, for his whole career, has tried to stay above this kind of a fray. Why should he change now?" Napolitano did not point out that this is the latest example of a pattern in which McCain denounces smears against his opponents, while also benefiting from them. Moreover, in asserting that McCain has "tried to stay above this kind of a fray," Napolitano seemingly ignored several instances in which McCain has misrepresented the statements or positions of his opponents.

Doocy again falsely suggested Dean called McCain "blatantly opportunistic" for citing his war record

Echoing his false claim the previous day that DNC chairman Howard Dean accused Sen. John McCain of "blatant opportunism" for referencing his military service as part of his presidential campaign, co-host Steve Doocy asserted on Fox & Friends that "Howard Dean looked at the biography tour and called John McCain blatantly opportunistic, which is extraordinary about a guy who spent five years in the Hanoi Hilton." In fact, Dean did not say that McCain's reference to his military record was "blatantly opportunistic."

Fox News' Doocy distorted Dean's comments about McCain

Fox News' Steve Doocy asserted that Sen. John McCain "has not really talked much about his time in the Hanoi Hilton for five years, and what happened to him, and they are including some of that archival stuff in a [campaign] video. And now, Howard Dean says that that is 'blatant opportunism.' " In fact, Dean said: "John McCain can try to reintroduce himself to the country, but he can't change the fact that he cast aside his principles to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with President Bush for the last seven years. While we honor McCain's military service, the fact is Americans want a real leader who offers real solutions, not a blatant opportunist who doesn't understand the economy and is promising to keep our troops in Iraq for 100 years."

Fox News Sunday's Chris Wallace criticized the hosts of Fox & Friends for engaging in "two hours of Obama bashing" and for "distorting" comments Sen.
Fox's Gretchen Carlson said "connotation" of Obama's middle name is that he is a "Muslim potentially" -- but he's not

While discussing conservative radio host Bill Cunningham's repeated reference to Sen. Barack Obama's middle name -- Hussein -- Fox & Friends co-host Gretchen Carlson asserted: "[T]he silent thing that nobody is really talking about here is the reason that he was saying the middle name so many times ... is because the connotation is that Barack Obama is a Muslim potentially. His father was a Muslim." Carlson then referred to claims that Obama is a Muslim as "rumors," but neither she nor co-hosts Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade pointed out that those rumors are false, and that Obama is a Christian.

Fox's Carlson did not challenge Huckabee's apparent inconsistencies on "free speech"

On Fox & Friends, Mike
Huckabee criticized senators for denouncing Rush Limbaugh regarding his recent
"phony soldiers" comments, saying that "it is not the business of government to
infringe upon the free speech of anybody, including a talk show host." But host
Gretchen Carlson did not point out that Huckabee supported -- and attacked Sen.
Hillary Clinton for opposing -- a Senate amendment that condemned the "General
Betray Us" MoveOn.org ad.

Fox whitewashed Lott's 2002 resignation: "He ran into a little bit of difficulty"

Several discussions on Fox News
about Sen. Trent Lott's candidacy for Senate minority whip have glossed
over or omitted any explanation of exactly why Lott stepped down from his Senate leadership post in 2002 --
specifically, that Lott was forced to resign after praising Sen. Strom Thurmond's 1948
pro-segregationist presidential campaign.
