Covering Bush address, Larry King didn't challenge Giuliani claim that Iraq mission is "no different now" than in 2003

On a special edition of CNN's Larry King
Live specifically focused on reaction to President Bush's Iraq
address, Larry King failed to challenge Rudy Giuliani's assertion that "our goal
is in Iraq is no different now than it was at the very beginning. The goal of
the mission in Iraq is to
provide safety and security so we can have an ally in Iraq
against the Islamic terrorists. And that was the mission that most of the
Democrats agreed to in 2003." In fact, the Bush administration has frequently
changed its "goal of the mission in Iraq," which at various times it has articulated
as disarming Iraq of weapons
of mass destruction, building democracy, and providing stability and security in
the Middle East.

In Sicko "fact check," CNN's Gupta falsely claimed his source's "only affiliation is with Vanderbilt University"

After Sicko director Michael Moore said that CNN's Sicko fact-check
"healthcare expert" Paul Keckley is "a person from a think tank group who is a big
Republican contributor," CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta asserted that Keckley's
"only affiliation" is with Vanderbilt University. Gupta continued, "We checked
it, Michael. We checked his conflict of interest. We do ask those
questions." In fact, as a
caption accompanying
Gupta's original report stated, Keckley is
a "Deloitte Healthcare Expert."

Ignoring widespread agreement on core issues, media suggested wins by "conservative Democrats" will cause intraparty strife

Media figures have attributed Democratic gains in
the House and Senate in the midterm elections to the number of wins by
conservative or moderate Democratic challengers and have suggested that because
the party's victory in the House was purportedly "built on the back
of more centrist candidates," the incoming Democratic majority will be sharply
divided. However, a Media Matters for
America survey of the policy positions of 27 victorious House candidates
found that they all agree on a core set of issues, including raising the
minimum wage and protecting Social Security.

CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, and NBC touted USA Today/Gallup poll with Bush approval rating at 44 percent, ignored earlier Pew poll placing his approval at 37 percent

Many television news outlets touted a USA Today/Gallup poll putting President Bush's job approval rating at 44 percent as a success for Bush, asserting that his rating is "the highest it's been in a year." But four days earlier, the same news organizations ignored a Pew Research Center poll showing Bush's approval rating at 37 percent.

On CNN's Larry King Live, right-wing activist and author David Horowitz again defended right-wing pundit Ann Coulter's recent attacks against widows of victims from the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, declaring that "Ann has done us a service."

CNN's Larry King hosted "best political team on TV" -- but none of its members pointed out Bush's flip-flop on immigration

While discussing immigration on CNN's Larry King Live, a group of the cable channel's political reporters and contributors, which host Larry King called "the best political team on television," touted President Bush's support for the bipartisan Senate bill that would provide a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants and suggested falsely that his position on immigration has been consistent. In fact, before Bush came out in support of the Senate bill, he had praised a competing House bill and, according to the House bill's author, Rep. James Sensenbrenner, pushed for the inclusion of some of its most controversial provisions, including one making it a felony to be in the United States illegally and another making it a felony to provide assistance to illegal immigrants.

Conservatives quick to opine on Brokeback Mountain's "agenda," slow to actually see film

Several television and radio commentators have either hosted debates or openly questioned what they claim are the insidiously progressive goals of the award-winning film Brokeback Mountain, yet many of the same commentators openly admit they have not seen it.

Parshall suggested Matthew Shepard's lifestyle was responsible for his murder, called gay adoption "state-sanctioned child abuse"

During a discussion about the implications of "the buzz around" the film Brokeback Mountain on CNN's Larry King Live, radio host Janet Parshall referred to the adoption of children by same-sex couples as "state-sanctioned child abuse," and implied that the "lifestyle" of Matthew Shepard, a gay man, was partly to blame for his 1998 murder.
