On his Townhall.com blog, Kevin McCullough posted an entry about Sen. Barack Obama's statement on "bring[ing] about real change for all LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual] Americans" under the headline "Obama: Hey Homos, I'm Your Dude!"

Hotline's Todd oblivious to McCain's inconsistencies on gay and lesbian rights

Ignoring conflicting statements by John McCain on gay and lesbian
issues, The Hotline's Chuck
Todd asserted that on the issue of same-sex marriage, McCain is "being true to what he is and what he thought
conservatism was." Todd also likened McCain to Barry Goldwater,
suggesting they held similar views on gay rights; in fact, while McCain
supported an Arizona effort to ban legal recognition of gay and lesbian couples and supports the ban on gays and lesbians serving openly in the
military, Goldwater became a strong supporter of gay rights and opposed the ban
on gays in the military.

Time gave Dobson a platform to misrepresent -- again -- science on same-sex parenting

In a
Time magazine guest column, James Dobson baselessly
claimed that "the majority of more than 30 years of social-science
evidence indicates that children do best on every measure of well-being when
raised by their married mother and father." In fact, studies have consistently found that
children raised by gay or lesbian parents suffer no adverse effects in their
psychosocial development.

NY Times ignored McCain's inconsistency on Roe v. Wade, same-sex civil unions

A New York Times
article that noted Sen.
John McCain's recent statement that "he
thought Roe v. Wade ...
should be overturned" did not
mention that McCain
has voiced several inconsistent positions on Roe
v. Wade. The Times also wrote that McCain
"seemed to countenance
civil unions"; in fact, McCain
offered two apparently contradictory positions on civil unions.

Yoest made contradictory statements about public support for marriage bans -- both were wrong

On CNN, the Family Research Council's
Charmaine Yoest falsely claimed that "every single time" a marriage
initiative has appeared on the ballot, "it's passed with over 70 percent
of the popular vote." The statement is wrong for two reasons. First, a
same-sex marriage ban failed in Arizona
in the midterm elections. Second, all of those that did pass did not get 70-percent
support -- only two did. Yoest also falsely claimed that those that passed did
so "resoundingly."

NY Times' Healy falsely suggested that Sen. Clinton shifted position on gay marriage, then corrected himself; MSNBC followed suit

The New York Times' Patrick Healy
reported that Sen. Hillary Clinton had said she "would support a gay
marriage law in New York"
and suggested that she had changed her position from her previous opposition to
same-sex marriage -- an account that MSNBC's Chris Jansing echoed. Healy later amended his report to say that Clinton had said she "would not stand
against a gay marriage law" and appeared on MSNBC to "correct the record." But he failed to acknowledge that his own flawed original reporting may
have led to MSNBC's inaccurate report.

Cameron falsely suggested that polls show most Americans support amending U.S. Constitution to ban same-sex marriage

On Fox News' Special Report with Brit Hume, Carl Cameron falsely suggested that public opinion polls show that most Americans support amending the U.S. Constitution to ban same-sex marriage. While some recent polls indicate that a majority of Americans believe same-sex marriage should be illegal, most polls that directly addressed a federal constitutional amendment show that a plurality or even a majority of Americans oppose it.

In CNN guest column, Dobson mischaracterized same-sex marriage debate, suggesting public support for constitutional ban

In a commentary on CNN.com, Focus on the Family's James C. Dobson criticized senators who voted against a constitutional amendment that would have banned gay marriage for "turn[ing] their backs" on the "most basic social institution" and mischaracterized the debate to baselessly suggest that there is strong public support for the amendment. But while some recent polls indicate that most Americans believe same sex marriage should be illegal, that was not the issue before Congress.

Dobson compared Federal Marriage Amendment to civil rights bills and slave liberation

On the Focus on the Family radio show, FOF CEO James Dobson and president Jim Daly lambasted opponents of a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage, comparing the amendment to civil rights legislation and the abolitionists' campaign to end slavery, and predicting that if it failed, "civilization will go down."

Matthews let Lott absolve Frist of scheduling Senate's gay-marriage debate

Chris Matthews allowed Sen. Trent Lott to suggest that Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist did not make the decision to have the Senate consider the Marriage Protection Amendment during an election year, because Frist "[doesn't] control totally what the schedule might be." In fact, Frist publicly stated in mid-May that Senate debate on the proposed amendment would occur in early June, and then moved to have the Senate consider the motion on the first day it was in session in June. At the conclusion of the interview, Matthews told Lott, "I'm getting to like you too much."

Hume asserted that gay marriage amendment divides Democrats, failed to mention even deeper Republican split

Fox News host Brit Hume stated that "Democrats and those who support them" are divided over a proposed constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriages, but Hume overlooked the much deeper Republican split on the issue, as evidenced by a Senate vote related to the amendment. Hume introduced a report by Fox News correspondent Major Garrett by stating that a vote on the proposed amendment "is expected to break almost perfectly along party lines, the Republicans for it and Democrats against," but continued: "Nevertheless, the issue has divided some Democrats and those who support them."
